Chef was super cool as well, we talked cooking and he brought me some samples to try when he heard we liked kimchi cucumber and I shared my pork belly recipe. I could not believe the disrespect and hostility i was treated with at this place. I went to watch the basketball game. I sat at a table and ordered a beer. (On a Wednesday afternoon, there were about 6 people in a place that holds 60.) I finished my beer and paid for it. I chatted with some people at the bar, one of whom was the owner Dave, he was super nice. Also some regulars, and the bartender Keala. I went outside to help my wife carry bags from the farmers market to the car, and went back to my table. The bartender came over and asked if i want another beer, i said no. Then she said, i have to order another beer or leave. And she starts insulting me, saying this isnt college, i have to "move on out". So i left. This is the only time I have ever been insulted in a bar. I have friends in the service industry, i know they sometimes have to deal with rowdy drunks, so i chat and smile and leave a nice tip. To be treated this way, in a nearly empty bar when i wasnt taking anyone's chair, the bartender had to leave the bar and cross the entire place just to insult me. I go to bars to have a drink and a nice time and relax, not to get harassed and insulted by the bartender. I will never go back to this place, sorry Dave. read more

Great place, highly recommend. Wonderful non touristy place to have a beer, cocktail and a fantastic lunch. The food was amazing. I had the Poke Rice Bowl and it was the best I've ever tasted. Ahi tuna bites over rice and salad greens, easily enough for two. My wife had the salmon and it was equally as delicious as my Poke Bowl. Great congenial service, drinks are creative I had the coconut lemon drop, tasty. My wife had a very tasty bottle of Big Wave Beer. While on Kauai visiting and looking around the town decided to have a drink. Big Wave Dave's is roomy and is more like a dive bar, but we don't go there at night when they have live music and a good size dance floor. The Mai Tai's were ok, but had better. We were looking for a place to watch an NCAA football game and Big Wave Dave's was the closest. The bar was pretty busy, but the bartender gladly stopped what she was doing to tune one of the TVs to the game we wanted to watch - above and beyond what I would have expected. Anyway, we sat down ordered some beers and enjoyed the local people watching games as well. We then decided to order some food and the food was REALLY GOOD! We had the steak and shrimp & chicken Teri bowl. Both were delicious. I'd recommend this place for a local, non-touristy feel and will visit here again next time we visit. This is a cool little place. Serves food Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The food was great and plenty of options to choose from. We had the mushroom bombers (must try), the shaggy roll (got to meet shaggy!) And the fish and chips (wahoo fish, Ono). Everything was delicious! Definitely a place to try and we will be making this a regular stop in Kapa'a! The service was great, very friendly and enjoyable experience. We had Bloody Mary's and they were also great . First time we went was for happy hour. We chose to sit at the bar at the last two seats available at the end. We had to shout out our orders. The Mai Tai was just OK. They have a nice selection of local beers. We had the Edamame and the Tempura Mushroom Bombers. Both were pretty good. They told us about Sunday Brunch and football season in Hawaii means games start at 8:00 am so we gave them another try. OMG! The brunch menu is very good. We shared the french toast and the omelette. Both were incredible. We sat at a table and the service was excellent. The two Bloody Mary's were delish. And every TV screen had a different game on. Dive bar in the sleepy town of Kapaa. The only place to get a drink after 9 when they roll up the streets. Nice family running the place, an old guy owner, his wife and their son. After a long day swimming at Kauapea Beach aka 'Secret Beach'... My boyfriend and I had built up an appetite for a good hearty meal. We came across Big Wave Dave's by all the small shops and decided to give it a shot. The menu is simple: burgers, sandwiches and salads. We went ahead and ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger and House Club. The food came out quickly, approx 15 minutes! No time to talk at this point. After taking the first bite of the BBQ Bacon Burger... I wanted another bite before I handed it back to my boyfriend. Then I got started with the House Club, which had the perfect amount of mayo, turkey, lettuce and tomatoes. The taste took me back to when I was a kid--I always ordered a club sandwich and nothing else! I was happy that the bread was perfectly toasted and not soggy. As you'll find noted all over, Kauai is not an island of nightlife. We were joking throughout our vacation, "Uh-oh, it's almost 8 o'clock! What are we gonna do now?" Big Wave Dave's provided a very nice if low-key Wednesday night for us, as well as the strongest and cheapest mai tais of the trip. We almost fell out of our booths when our bartender said $10 for the both of you. I'm still feeling a bit bad as I tipped a dollar for each drink, and when I handed over the exact change for our bills, I felt like I got a little side-eye ("Like really, I made you these bomb ass drinks and charged you nothing and this is what you tip?") I thought it was warranted, and I hope I can make up for it next time. They had a DJ in the front but not much of a crowd beyond the few booths, though I really liked the scene, feels like a place you could hang and get to know people. Kauai needs a hip dance place like this sooo badly! Thursday nights are electronica and it went off pretty hard for a local club. Dub step house reggae D&B etc. $5 cover was worth it. $5 drinks; so that's a cheap night out. Plus the women on Kauai are the most beautiful on earth! Make sure to treat our Kauai women with respect guys... Just like the hip place I went in San Francisco but half the price for drinks, 1/5 the cover charge, and 1/10th the attitude.
