Was super excited to check this place out since I had been craving ramen for a while. I got the golden bowl, it had a very tasty broth and would definitely get it again but feel like it was lacking toppings. As a ramen spot I was hoping for something more. The kiwi kumo mocktail was very good and refreshing. The ragin cajun roll was super fresh with lots of different flavors! I really enjoyed the spicy tuna hand roll. We also got the spicy pork fries, they were okay but wouldn't get them again. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and clean. The service however is a little slow. Food was very good, full of flavor and the texture of the noodles in my ramen bowl was spot on. Our server was absolutely amazing, answering all questions asked, listening to what we wanted, making recommendations that we were very happy with. I wish I could remember their name. Just breathtakingly beautiful interior. It reminds me of the Portland airport with the wood features on the ceiling. Very aesthetically pleasing. Very friendly and efficient service. We went in at lunchtime and we're really pleased to have our order on the table within less than 10 minutes. We both had Ramen with some variations, I had the marinated tofu and my companion had chicken. We both loved ours very much. We got an order of sesame balls (red bean paste) to go but couldn't wait and ended up eating them in the car. They were so good and especially tasty when they were freshly toasted and warm. My daughters and I dined at Kenji's for lunch. The food was delicious! My youngest daughter ordered the tempura appetizer, garlic fried rice with pork belly, and Bento A. My eldest daughter and I split the gyoza appetizer, caterpillar sushi (unagi, avocado, savory sauce, and more), a tuna roll (sushi), and "make-your-own" ramen. We chose the standard noodles, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, and chicken broth, bok choy, and pork belly. I must say... the tuna (ahi) roll was impressive! A lot of tuna for its size. Most places have a lot of rice and just a little tuna. We had plenty of leftovers. The service was excellent. Over the course of the last year or so, Kenji's has gone through a lot of changes - management, menu, and now, interior. But they are 100% back to their original recipe and form! Friends and I came in at 8PM Saturday night. Their remodeled location has gone upmarket, but the food and service is everything we've come to know and love, with the additions of sushi, a full bar, and SPACE. Literally, the restaurant has more than twice as much space as it did previously, with a completely separate bar area for the 21-and-overs. It's not just the space that's been increased, the overall aesthetic of the interior has gone upscale. Gone is the mural of Tokyo and the view into the kitchen. The main seating area has a tree in the middle of it, taking great advantage of the soaring ceiling. The bar area has a floating, shaped wood plank ceiling that's just gorgeous. The kitchen is now hidden behind a window near the bar. There's also now a larger dedicated entry space, separated by a wall into the restaurant. While I do miss the mural, I do not miss how noisy the space used to be. The larger space, with the various walls separating it, and the kitchen tucked away in the back of the house, makes your dining experience much more relaxed without noises of dishes clattering from the kitchen, or the echoey scream of a child from the other side of the building. The food is exactly as it's always been (sans the menu change at the beginning of 2025). Everything is just as delicious as it always has been. I ordered the Original and added extra pork belly to it, along with a korokke pancake and karaage chicken for the table. The ramen was perfectly done, and the broth had extraordinary depth of flavor - typical for Kenji's, but it's been months since I've been able to have a bowl.My friend loved the sushi roll that she ordered, and commented how beautiful the radish was and it wasn't a strong taste either. We also ordered some of their cocktails - the Old Fashioned, as our server Joey warned us, was sweeter than a typical old fashioned, and served with garnish of orange and black sesame. I loved mine, but my friend was kind of 50/50 on his. After discussion with Joey, we agreed that next time he may need to order it without the black sesame garnish. read more

I ordered the Old Fashion with the black sesame and personally wasn't a fan. The staff were all very kind and attentive and got replaced my drink with one I enjoyed. Thank you again! Kenji's is looking nice with their new renovations!! We were so happy that they opened. They also revamped their menu by adding in a sushi bar. The staff is always so welcoming and amazing! But lots more ground to cover, so we noticed we waited a bit after we sat down to get greeted and order. It wasnt too busy when we came either. Kaizen bowl- flavor is still amazing as ever. My only issue is the pork belly. It was SO thin. I didnt remember it being a thin cut pork belly. Almost like a thick cut bacon. And it wasnt as charred as it was before. Im happy it only comes with green onions now but that means you pay $1 for the corn and bean sprouts. Spice wise- it was pretty subtle for being their spiciest broth. I used to have my nose running after i finished the bowl. Crispy kickers- this hit the spot. It was soo good as an appetizer. Definitely getting it again. Chirashi set- this was a little sad. The tuna, definitely frozen but was hard. I know sushi out here the fish is frozen. But this one, it was a sad tuna. The salmon was nice and soft and buttery. The other fishes- meh. It was decent. Came in recently and the space looks way better than before. We havent came back in a while since we been exploring other places. The new renovation definitely feels more elevated, and honestly Vancouver needs more spots like this where you can enjoy a nicer atmosphere without having to drive into Portland. Service was great, staff was professional, attentive, and overall gave off a good vibe. It actually felt like they enjoy working there, which makes a difference. I did read on their webpage that they aim to bring authentic Japanese and Korean food. Personally, wouldn't consider it fully authentic, especially if you've traveled to Japan or the mainland, you'll notice the difference. The food leans more toward American style Japanese/Korean cuisine. That being said, the food was still good and satisfying. Not authentic, but enjoyable. I first visited Kenji's in 2019 and had an amazing experience then, and in the years since. It's been really fascinating to watch the restaurant transform over the years, adding new dishes, renovating the space, and becoming wildly popular. Kenji's is one of those rare success stories where you can find a packed house and wait-list on a Tuesday evening. I love it! I've failed to review my previous visits, much to my dismay, so when I was invited to dine at Kenji's this evening I jumped at the chance so I could write that long overdue review. I'm sad to say, however, tonight's experience was a bit of a mixed bag. Our appetizer was fantastic with great presentation and delicious flavor. The Agedashi Tofu is a must-try dish! My husband ordered the Golden Bowl (Tonkotsu pork broth with Japanese brown curry. Served with chicken katsu, chopped garlic, butter & green onion) and he absolutely loved it. The chicken katsu was perfectly prepared; crunchy on the outside, and tender inside with delicious flavor. The broth wasn't overly salty, and the curry married perfectly with the tonkatsu broth. The dish was expertly presented. My Naruto Bowl (Tonkotsu pork broth served with 2 slices of pork belly, 1/2 marinated egg, double narutomaki, nori & green onion) was a hot mess. My initial reaction when receiving the bowl was that I'd received the wrong dish. It appeared to be a bowl of broth with 7 or 8 slices of narutomaki floating on top. I poked around in the bowl and eventually discovered the overcooked pork belly (it was crunchy and hard) green onion and noodles. The nori had fallen and soaked into the broth, so there was nothing visually appealing about the dish. I poked around in the bowl and couldn't find the marinated egg, so I double-checked with the server to see if the dish was supposed to include it. They told me it didn't, so I ordered one on the side. (I later double-checked the menu and it was indeed supposed to include one) The broth was overly salty and I was left wishing I'd ordered something else. As I mentioned, I've visited this restaurant in years past and had positive experiences. I'm hoping things haven't gone downhill, and that I can still recommend Kenji's to folks looking for delicious ramen in Vancouver. I'll give it another shot next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I've been here several times before the remodel and just went today after the remodel, the restaurant is gorgeous, and the food is of course absolutely delicious. I had the Golden Bowl and brought home the curry katsu fries for my daughter. Both dishes were absolutely amazing, our server Eric? was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in frequently to make sure we didn't run out of our drinks. I can not say enough about how much we love coming here, not just for the food, but the service as well. So excited to try out Kenji since their return. Came with my kids tonight. I had a reservation which got lost somehow probably my fault. We got seated 35 minutes after we checked in. We went to the bar to have a drink and after 35 minutes, went to check on our table. They said they didn't know where we were? We were at the bar. So after that, we were seated at a table in the bar. The bartender was taking care of the tables in the bar as per usual, but he was so busy. We were waiting forever for everything. The cocktails were so good. We ordered it off the special drink menu and they were We ordered a California roll and some spicy cucumbers. They were both really good. Great ingredients fresh and tasty. Took forever to come to the table, though we all ordered a form of Ramen. My son ordered the golden bowl which was delicious. The karage chicken in there and the curry flavor hit the spot He loved it. My daughter ordered the original and she enjoyed it as well. She ordered medium spicy and it was hot! She liked it a lot. I ordered the Couve bowl and added eggs, corn and pork belly. I honestly would've liked some jalapeños, but things add up. All the Ramen bowls were super flavorful, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. We also tried a small portion of the garlic fried rice. My son said it was the best. The food is really good here. Went to Kenji's on a Friday at 12 noon, New Year weekend, no line, no crowds. It was a pleasant visit to the newly remodeled restaurant. Ordered some nigiri to start, hamachi and ahi. Nice and fresh, good rice, nice presentation. The ramen we ordered - the Original and Golden Bowl. Both had a lovely broth. I could stop slurping it, do good for the gloomy weather in Washington. The original has a kick to it with the Kim Chee and chili pepper oil in it. I had the Golden Bowl, there's some Japanese curry and butter in it. Want to preface that my family and I used to come to Kenji before the renovation. I had given good reviews. We were waiting with anticipation on the reopening. Place looks fantastic after remodeling and the menu selections have increased to have a lot more sushi options. They have really upgraded the vibe of the place. Arrived at 9pm and there was a bunch of people waiting to get seated even though there were empty clean tables. Was told it would be a 45 minute wait for 2 people. We opted to get take out since the hostess said we'd get our food faster. The takeout bag for our meal is nice and we hurriedly rushed home to enjoy our meal. We opened up the contents and was sorely disappointed with the portions. As another reviewer pointed out, half the noodle portion compared to before renovation. So appears doesn't matter if you are eating in or take out. My curry bowl portion was disappointing as well. Flavors were fine. I ended up having to cook some instant ramen to add to the broth and make frozen dumplings so we wouldn't be hungry. Kind of defeats the purpose of going out to eat to have to cook. Not sure if we will be back. There are other ramen places in Vancouver now to visit. read more

Kenji's, my old friend, how you have been elevated. Kenjis has been remodeled, and so has their menu. Come here and get the ramen. It doesn't matter what flavor, just get any and they're all delicious. Got the Naruto bowl this time with the highest spice level. Very tolerable and the flavor profile is distinct. You can taste all the different ingredients. Everything stands out while blending in like a smooth summer dip in the ocean. The drinks are elevated as well. The Jeju Island is smooth and tropical with a tangy hint while the Seoul Sunset is fruity in all the right places. The service from our waiter is prompt and hasty. Everyone here has a smile and seems to enjoy their passion for Kenjis. The new Sakura style decorations tree front and center gives Japanese vibes while flooding memories of Janken. We stopped and had lunch, I had the Katsu Curry Fries, it was a huge serving of fries, covered in curry that had large chunks of potatoes and carrots in it. Then there were chopped pork katsu, and large dollops of raw minced garlic, I still feel and taste it lol. The whole thing was yummy, though so wet that we couldn't really take home the left overs to reheat, it would have just been mush. But otherwise, yummy, and it just made me want to try the pork katsu on its own because it was also really good. If you love garlic this is definitely the place for you. My cousin is attending a conference in Vancouver, so I made the two hour drive south to see her. In looking for a restaurant that would fit her vegetarian lifestyle, yet be suitable for an omnivore like I am, we agreed that the description of Kenji's sounded perfect. This place was even better than perfect! Great atmosphere, very classy interior, with muted acoustics which made conversation easy. Evocative of Japan, with a huge, beautiful Sakura sculpture in the middle. But looks aren't everything. Fortunately, Kenji's backs up the ambiance with amazing food and service. The menu features a well-curated selection of Japanese/Korean dishes, ranging from a creative assortment of sushi (including a delicious vegetarian roll which my cousin devoured happily), ramen (my choice was the Golden Bowl, a tasty blend of chicken katsu and Japanese curry infused broth), and other traditional options. Our server, Erick, was knowledgeable, friendly, and highly competent, which really helped us navigate the menu. The vegetarian gyoza is offered in both steamed and deep fried versions; the steamed prep was superb. Nice selection of Japanese brands of beer, including non-alcoholic Asahi, one of my favorites! Prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality of ingredients. Matched anything I experienced in Tokyo! And while it's not Asian, their Crème Brûlée cheesecake was the perfect exclamation point to a great dinner! One quirky aspect to this establishment; the entrance is so understated, in between a video game store and a FedEx outlet, that we drove past it several times, thinking that Kenji's was no more. Ironically, on the street side of the restaurant there's a big bright illuminated sign. So don't be deterred by the restaurant's camouflaged entrance, because it's definitely worth tracking down! read more

Please please please bring back the original DIY ramen bowls. Such an iconic staple for the area and really built the fan base here. The portions have gone down in size (as well as the prices) but I always appreciated having enough for leftovers which is no longer the case. Service is beyond excellent here, our main server as well as the other ones are so friendly and so efficient. We came at around 1 and it was still super busy so we had to wait about 15 min for a table but it was a steady crowd the whole we were there. Food was delicious! My son had the make your own bowl (he is the main ramen lover in the family), husband had the original, and i had gyoza, soft boiled eggs, and the spicy cucumber salad. Yes, i am the weirdo that gets everything but ramen at a ramen place. But let me tell you for those who are in the same boat as me, these other things were so good too!!! We also shared the bulgogi fries with kimchi (SO good and HUGE portion!!!). Have been coming to Kenjis for years, and had my first visit after the remodel they did. The menu is fresh and updated, and the food was as always delicious. Over priced for what you get, but yummy. The service was slow, though it was moderately busy. The amount of staff I saw was insane for how slow the food came out. 4-6 servers for the whole place. My biggest gripe is the vibe. This place used to feel homey and humble, and now it just feels pretentious. The remodel is objectively pretty, but it loses so much of its original charm in it. It felt like a very fake and sterile experience. The cherry on top of that was the wallpaper in the women's bathroom clearly being AI. I'm hoping as it settles into its remodel, the atmosphere will loosen up a little. It's nothing to keep me from coming back, I'm just disappointed. read more

We called to ask for wait times and it was 15-20 min. Then we got there we put our names down with 25 minute wait. There were 3 parties ahead so we decided to wait it- ended up being 45 minute wait. Then we got sat down, the hostess just dropped the menus and no words spoken. After 10 minutes finally the waiter came by and dropped our waters, no welcome, and said "need to go to the kitchen". We left because we were so hungry and most tables didn't even have food. Was excited to try after this reopening! Finally tried Kenji's after seeing they remodeled and was really impressed. They were surprisingly busy early on a Sunday evening, we didn't have a reservation and we had to wait for the table. Hostess quoted us 30min but our text said a table was ready in only 15min so that was nice but there was a line filling the lobby waiting after us so obviously the TikTok marketing is working! The food was really great I'm happy to have a good Japanese restaurant in Vancouver and not have to drive all the way to Portland for good food when I'm craving it especially sushi! The prices were fair in my opinion. The size of the rolls and appetizers were very shareable and after a full day of shopping we were starving so we were happy. I was excited about the cocktail menu as well, Tokyo highball is my favorite, (yuzu my beloved) so you know I had to get it, my friend also loved the Seoul sunset. They had a pretty good bar in the back, so there's more than just Sapporo and sake if that's not your jam! Next time I'll try the ramen, because it looked delicious too. Loved the indoor tree and lanterns it made the ambiance very inviting and warm, a fun atmosphere, the wavy wood ceiling was very beautiful from where I was sitting too, I could see into the bartending area. One thing I would like to mention, it was very busy, and it was hard to get the attention of the servers, and there were multiple servers handling our table, so if you asked one server for something, another would bring it out to you, or the server would forget you would have to ask another one for it again. I know it happens, but it was the one thing that was sort of annoying about the night. Our main server who took our order was super nice and friendly but she was super busy with other tables (all the servers were) so I think that's why everyone was just everywhere. Another point of note was that the wooden chairs stick to the floor REALLY bad if you don't get a booth. Even the couple next to us were like wow these chairs are like stuck to the floor, so once you sit down if you need to readjust your position you have to get up and move the chair and then sit down again you can't just scoot. Not a deal breaker just a weird little thing I wanted to mention, kind of funny! Overall it was a nice experience and I want to go back to try more food and bring more of my friends out!
