This was my second visit to this spot. Both times had the same thing, the hot stone bibimbap. This day I went solo for lunch. King Kong Korean does it right. Sizzling bowl of heaven. The Banchan sides are perfect. Especially the radish and fish cake. I was served by Jonathan. A very polite and courteous young man. He made sure my drinks were topped off and also took the time to engage me in conversation. The bibimbap is fresh, sizzling hot and delicious. Last night my family of four dined in for Korean Bbq. When we do choose k-bba, we go to this location, however - never again. It was the saddest excuse for the fattiest of meat and they sat us at a table with a single burner because my husband and son couldn't fit in the booth without their knees touching the grill underneath * My 19 year old son is 6'3 and 325 Ibs. and my husband is also 6'3 almost 300 Ibs. Myself and my 12 year were so sardined tight no one had any elbow room to cook or set the extra drink cups. The servers themselves admitted there was no where for them to set all the meat so we literally were stacking the meats together. We had to ask for a different tray of spicy bulgogi and she said it's cut from pork belly and it all looks like that. So we passed on that. We tried the teriyaki chicken and was also fatty. There was more in a napkin than on anyone's plate. So for $160 we four shared a salad, 1 bowl of rice each and only one of us ate meat. The rice cakes and corn were good though. On the surface, Kingkong Korean BBQ is pretty much like every other "grill-it-yourself" establishment, which is generally a good thing. It's immediate flaws are the same as its brethren: why does it seem like no one knows how to operate the grill at the table properly? It's always too slow to warm up, not hot enough, and requires manual intervention. Once that issue is taken care of, though, you're pretty much left to your own devices, and your satisfaction is solely based on what you order, and how well you cook it. Well, almost. In this case, for the most part, the cuts of meat were as good as any other Korean BBQ, but there were some that were decidedly not. Winners: bulgogi, miso pork belly, la galbi short ribs, steamed egg, all the side dishes and sauces. Losers: just about everything else, including the service; the employees were well-meaning and nice enough, but they were obviously very green, awkward, and forgetful. Despite being on the "premium" menu, avoid the King Kong Steak and the King Kong Marinated Beef, both of which are thick, tough slabs of meat that are took difficult to grill properly, especially when there are any of the aforementioned grill heating problems, and even then, they're just too thick, and not particularly appetizing. We also had some uninspired "cajun" shrimp, which is just regular shrimp with a dusting of seasoning on top. In fact, if it weren't for the LA Galbi short ribs, I'd say you can safely ignore the "premium" menu altogether, and just stick with the basics. That way, you can have an enjoyable meal, without paying extra for things you aren't likely to enjoy. There are better Korean BBQ places out there, but I wouldn't be opposed to giving King Kong another shot in the future. I just wouldn't pay anything more than standard price. read more

Experience was good. Greeted and waitress very kind and informative on how to order. Nice tables with bbq grills for you to use. We ordered from the lunch menu 28. 95 per person. We chose up to 4 meats and all the sauces, rice, kimchi, salad etc automatically came to our table. Our order came quickly and we got started cooking and sampled all of the sauces provided. We got there late and he said he would Call last call soon. We didn't care. We got one round and we were so full! No need for a second round. The meats were flavorful and delicious but we didn't really care for the brisket (no real reason, we didn't like it as much as the rest). The spicy pork and chicken bulgogi were our favorites. I've given this place several chances over a period of approximately 2 years. I love Korean food, especially the meat, for they (Koreans) are the experts. I've always loved beef bulgogi, so I kept trying it to see how it was. One thing I will say is this place is consistent. The beef bulgogi is the worst I've ever had, and it tasted the same each time. Today I tried the Pork bulgogi, and honestly, it tasted the same as the beef. Basically, it has no real flavor but a burnt undertaste. It truly is horrible. The Pork had the same burnt flavorless taste. They asked me if everything was ok, and I told them very directly that it sucked. I've eaten at Korean restaurants all over the metro area for years, and they are all good. When I told the waiter and waitress what I thought about it, they very politely told me thanks for coming, and promptly charged me $20.00. I could not help but question that, so he gave me a discount that dropped it down to $15.87. I do not recommend this place at all. I should have gone to Panda, only 1 block away. I've eaten at bulgogi huts in South Korea, and the meat quality was poor, but the flavor was awesome. I take no pleasure in writing this; it is the first time I have ever written one. Service was good, the servers were quite friendly and we were able to get their attention to order fairly quickly. The ambiance was okay for an afternoon lunch on a weekday. It wasn't very busy and there was music playing. The food is where it falls short. Everything was oddly sweet yet bland. The seafood pancake was very sour. And it wasn't a kimchi pancake. The sourness was very off putting that I had to use a lot of the sauce to counteract it, the sauce was very sweet. We also got the cabbage and bone stew, and the veggies were simmered way too long where it was soggy and left a sticky film over your tongue when you ate it. I love cabbage stews, so I was quite disheartened over this one. The broth wasn't as flavorful of beef as I expected. I know it should be a light soup, but i did not get much of an aroma. Lastly we ordered the dolsot bibimbap. I thought this dish was pretty okay. We decided to take half of it home, and actually enjoyed it more cold than we did hot/warm. We had the Haemul Pajeon [squid and green onion pancake], Ugeoji Galbitang [beef short rib soup with cabbage], and the Haemul Dolsot Bibimbap [bibimbap in hot stone pot with spicy seafood]. The Haemul Pajeon had a sour aftertaste, the short ribs in the soup were tough and the cabbage was mushy. The bright spot was the bibimbap that had a ton of seafood. The serving size of the side dishes was large. The service was attentive and helpful. They use a magnet that you can flip up at the end of your table to get their attention. MUST READ PRIOR TO VISITING. This review may come off as funny but I'm truly about to call a health inspector. All of what I have stated in this review is completely true and have added photo evidence for proof. I don't normally leave reviews, but after what happened at King Kong Korean BBQ, I feel morally obligated to warn others. It all started with the side dishes, which looked--and tasted--like they'd been pulled out of a sink drain. Soggy, room-temp, and wildly depressing. The kimchi had all the flavor of damp paper, the bean sprouts were limp and lifeless, and the rest looked like it had given up on life halfway through being made. Then the meat arrived. And dear god. Every cut was gray, chewy, and completely unseasoned. The steak? A true monstrosity. I took one bite, started chewing, and then realized it wasn't going anywhere. I was choking. Not in a dramatic way--I mean literal hands-in-my-mouth, pulling a slimy wad of meat out of my throat like I was performing amateur surgery at the table. I made eye contact with God for a second and even he looked disappointed. We were so baffled by how awful everything tasted that we genuinely thought we were the problem. Maybe we were cooking it wrong? Maybe there was some magical Korean BBQ technique we were missing? So we asked our server for help--and he completely dismissed us. Didn't explain anything, didn't offer tips, didn't even pretend to care. He just muttered, "Just put the meat on, I'll let you know when it looks okay to eat," and walked away like he had better things to do than prevent food poisoning. Spoiler alert: "looks okay to eat" is apparently code for raw and chewy enough to double as resistance training for your jaw. While I was still recovering from my near-death experience, the staff came over three different times to tell us to "come to the front and check out." Mind you, we still had full plates of untouched food (because it was all vile), and there were only two other tables in the entire restaurant. What was the rush? Were they trying to free up the space for the next health code violation? And just when we thought the worst was over--my boyfriend was struck with a sudden, violent wave of diarrhea. Three bites too many and my man had to sprint to the bathroom like his life depended on it (because frankly, it did). And guess what? No toilet paper. Not a single square. He had to text me from the stall begging for supplies. I'm not kidding--we have photo proof of this humiliating toilet paper crisis. I can't make this up. As I sit here writing this review, I feel genuinely nauseous. My stomach is cramping, I'm sweating, and I'm 90% sure this place gave me PTSD and possibly a parasite. King Kong didn't just ruin dinner--it declared war on my digestive system. And for the cherry on top of this gastrointestinal nightmare, they charged us $80 for the privilege of choking, gagging, and watching my boyfriend sprint to a toilet with no paper. Honestly, the only surprise was that they didn't hit us with their advertised $10-per-unfinished-plate surcharge--which, considering how inedible everything was, would've been a bold move. I guess they showed a sliver of mercy by not charging extra for the piles of untouched disappointment we left behind. Small blessings, I suppose. King Kong? More like King Wrong. Do not come here unless you have a stomach of steel and someone in your party who's highly trained in the Heimlich maneuver. read more

Staff was attentive and got our orders in quickly, when we wanted more meats they gave us more. We ordered from the premium menu which offered other cuts of meat and seafood. Everytime we've been craving kbbq, we've been going to Oregon. Until a friend mentioned this place to us. It wasn't packed at all. We tried several meats at once. Not realizing that with certain meats the portions were huge. My friend got way too excited & ordered one more round as we were all getting full. We somehow pulled through & finished it off. It's not the best or the best quality but it is good for the price in our opinion, especially if you go get kbbq during lunch! They play lots of K-pop music which is fun! I don't think the kimchi is super fresh but we really enjoy the radish-onion banchan which comes with a kind of soy sauce. The service is pretty good too. We stayed in Portland by PDX and craved the mysterious Korean BBQ AYCE...this was the closest to Cascade Station. This place did not disappoint. We usually order beef belly, pork belly as these meats don't burn the grille as fast. The beef belly was a thick cut, which I like. Just add some jalapeños and dipping sauce...and bingo!! The choice of banchan was great. Pickled broccoli, radishes, fish cake and Mac salad were flavorful. I did get the steamed egg, I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor. Food has always been good and what I expected. I only do takeout, and my food has always been prepared promptly and reheats well.

We've been coming here since the first week they opened. Things have been slipping a little in terms of their service but nothing that bad...until now. We came in for dinner and the place was FREEZING. They had a little space heater sitting not far from us and we could see that the room temperature was only 54 degrees. We ordered from the menu this trip; It took 25 minutes for our order to arrive. We got two bowls of soup and each one only had 3 tiny bits of meat in it. This soup is not cheap so to be given a medium size bowl that it primarily nothing but broth is pretty bad. Our order was dropped off and we never saw anyone again. Nobody checked back to make sure we had everything we needed, nobody refilled our drinks...nothing. As great as our first few visits were this was that same level of BAD. Had this been our first visit we would never step foot in the place again. We sincerely hope that, should we ever decide to visit again, things are back to the way they once were. Good taste, but poor execution. The all-you-can eat menu is a bit confusing, I witnessed them explain it multiple times to other tables. If you want all-you-can eat then your entire party is required to order either the standard or the premium, but its kinda problematic if one person wants to order off the regular menu. Even though two people opted for the all-you-can eat, they only brought one of certain items. Two of the table burners weren't working, so we needed to move. No utensils on the first table. A major mistake: they placed cold meat on a cold grill which results in sticking. You're supposed to place the meats on a hot surface. Lastly, the server turned off the burner even though there was still an entire plate of uncooked meat on the table. To their credit the servers were friendly, but frazzled. The Korean lady was especially nice. That said, there were some creative options such as corn cheese. My goto cold noodles were good, but it's difficult to mess up this dish. Seated pretty quickly, food mediocre. Meat was very tough, and the service was very slow being that we were only 1 out of 4 tables seated in the whole entire establishment. Had to hunt them down for more water(meet so dry had to drink lots of liquid to swallow) another set of rice, and more sauce(to drown dry meat in). Went first time with my son... wasn't sure what to suspect in to this location where restaurants go to die! walked in and was nicely greeted and led to a table, all the while admiring the remodeling (very nice), after a brief explanation of the process we placed our order: lovely, high on protein and veg is and almost zero carbs... perfect! after some coaching from my son. on how to proceed we dove in... fabulous... interesting flavors, beautifully presented and fun to prepare... living in the Couve' sadly I've adjusted to the overall drop in quality around the area and over blown prices... AND...to be honest this place isn't cheap! Some of the staff acted friendly but there was often weird looks and hard tones from the staff. Service was slow and often non-existent considering the automatic 18% gratuity that wasn't mentioned until it came time to pay. Despite being a party of 5 (one infant), the waitress attempted to try and sit us at a table of 4, while justifying that the larger tables need to be reserved for the larger groups, and that the baby can sit at the end, in the car seat. Throughout the duration of dining in, no large parties came. When we finished, in reviewing the bill, I had noticed that gratuity was included. When I inquired, the gal at the register stated that gratuity is for parties of 5 or larger. Further, I inquired about whether the baby, who isn't able to eat, etc. is counted and was told that the restaurant recently changed their policy, and that this is written in the "new menu". I asked to see the new menu and the waitress couldn't locate one. I looked through the menu I was provided while dining in, and did not see this written anywhere. I am leaving this review because I have never heard of an infant being included in a party for gratuity and given this is the case - we should be seated appropriately then, and not told to sit at a smaller table. Seems pretty contradictory. Slow service, and portions for meat get relatively smaller the more you order. The owner has or had another restaurant and it was spot on. She used to watch our baby while we were eating. I hate to write a bad review, but I have hopes that this gets in front of the person running the Vancouver location. This place is notorious for being dirty and nasty. I am not joking in saying that someone pooped on the toilet paper dispenser. A friend of mine mentioned that it was still there the next day. There is basically no management here, and it's appears that everyone has checked out. It's a job and that's it. The food is nasty. No flavor and old ingredients are covered in salt to hide the flavors. We need a good Korean restaurant in this part of town and to be honest, I keep crossing my fingers and check this place out every 3-4 months hoping it's changed. Nope. If you'd like to get sick or enjoy a day on the toilet (please don't use their toilet unless you like that kind of thing), this is your type of place. Why do people go here?? My daughter went and was telling me about the $10/plate charge for uneaten meat. That's ridiculous. I would assume it's meant to discourage waste, but you've paid your AYCE price, so it doesn't matter if it's in my stomach or on the plate. it's gone. So where's the justification in charging $10 more just because it wasn't eaten? Especially when you can't take leftovers - which is probably a liability precaution for letting ppl take out raw meat - even though by paying extra, you're BUYING (actually paying twice) those leftovers and can't take them. Also, I've read plenty of reviews of the food not being good or it has declined. What's the policy on uneaten meat that wasn't eaten because it wasn't good? Who's going to pay again for food that wasn't good? Fighting food waste is a noble cause, but implementing punitive charging policies against your customers is a dumb way to do it. So the more cynical me thinks it's not about waste, but more about advertising AYCE in theory, but trying to reduce the risk of offering AYCE to their bottom line with bogus policies and charges. Plenary of spaces between tables and chairs feel sturdy. Now to the food. It's the typical Korean BBQ setup: order meats, banchan are delivered to the table and you cook your dinner. UNLIKE most Korean BBQ places, wait staff won't rush to change the grill even though they've seen how charred it is. Nor is there a rush to refill your drink orders, even though they've walked by your table. When I think about it, each time we needed something we had to wave them down. We had multiple flavored pork belly and some pieces at the end are mostly fat but most of them are good. The steam egg is delicious and the service was stellar. I'm a lover of just about any All-You-Can Eat Korean BBQ, but average meat quality, small portions, weak sauces, and limited banchan means this restaurant is no monarch of the meat feasts; however, the colossal gorilla in the room as to why KingKong Korean BBQ was a giant failure was repeatedly forgetful service. Even before ordering meats to grill, I ordered a draft beer. It didn't come. We ate our first round and I asked about the beer. Oh, yeah, was the quick response, but it wasn't followed by quick delivery of a frosty mug. So, after about another 20 minutes, I asked again. It took 55 minutes and 4 people to get me a beer. And, then I ordered another. Along the way, we had to order beef tongue, pork jowl, and King Kong steak multiple times ... and not because they were fantastic. No, because they seemed to keep forgetting. Sigh. It would of (probably) been ok, if the meat quality, portions, and freshness was awesome. They weren't. Location was clean and the staff incredibly friendly. It did take awhile for staff to come take our order, perhaps they forgot we were seated? After that first interaction though they were very on top of things. They had good suggestions and the older woman was so wonderful!
