Kenny saved my hair yesterday! I've never cried over a bad haircut before...until yesterday. Just hours before going to Kenny, another salon did a hack job of a cut and "balayage" color. I couldn't tell because I left the salon with my hair wet but once I got home and dried my hair, I had shades of orange, white, and green! My hair was so over-processed but I couldn't walk around with my hair looking like that. Kenny took me last minute when I called. When I got there, he had Danny color my hair dark brown and then added a special treatment in attempt to heal some of the damage. Side note: Danny was so patient with all the hair I have. * After Danny blow dried and straightened my hair, Kenny went to work. Ever since I've gotten a haircut from Kenny, I've never gone to anyone else! I think Kenny is one of the most honest hairstylists I know because he will tell you if you if he thinks what you have in mind will work with your hair texture and will suggest something better that's less extensive. He's quick but the outcome is always better than what you'd think. I have really thick and curly hair so it's nice that he knows how to work with it. He's super nice and price is so reasonable. I called on Thursday to see about coming in Friday early evening and Kenny was super accommodating to a very short notice hair cut appt. I came in Friday and asked about getting a gel mani and regular pedi also and was able to get my nails done as I waited for my hair cut. I didn't catch his name but the man who did my mani did amazing! Then I swapped and got my haircut my Kenny and he was just beyond amazing! I hadn't cut my hair in so long and I for sure needed it and he was super efficient and precise. After I got my hair cut I swapped back to get my pedi done and the woman who did my toes was just as amazing! I haven't been to a nail salon that focused on the little details in so long and! It's also a hair salon! I love that! I can get my hair cut, and nails done by very skilled professionals. Kenny is great at his craft and his prices are very reasonable. I had very thick long hair and it was $30 for a mid-length cut with layers. I also brought my auntie and it was $25 for a bob cut. This includes basic styling already. I understand he accepts walk-ins but I do recommend calling to make an appointment to secure your spot. As other reviewers have mentioned, he does work fast but without compromising the quality of his work. In addition to my auntie, I've recommended 4 other friends and they have all enjoyed his work. I cannot say how thankful I am for being recommended to this place. Thank you, Danny for doing the most that I've ever seen from a pedicure and manicure! When I first walked in for my appointment at 1:00pm- I was already greeted by Danny and the owner himself, Kenny. After 5 minutes of waiting give or take I was told by Kenny to choose a color for my nails, so I did. I was then seated and Danny started working wonders! I like the pedicures here. They are affordable, they have a generous selection of colors, and I appreciate the spa chairs after a long day of work. The pedi's come with a hot stone massage and it is super relaxing. I haven't had other services there but I do recommend a pedicure. A general observation I have about service reviews is that people complain about an aspect of service not being how they'd prefer and I can imagine as a business owner that would be annoying as heck. Went to see Kenny because I read a lot of good reviews. I haven't gone to any other stylist for 15 yrs but with my move, I really needed to start looking. I'm sorry to say but I definitely will not be coming back here. I was in and out in like 10 minutes. Got in, Kenny didn't ask if I wanted a wash, got straight to chopping, chopping and more chopping. Had small talk and before you know it, I was out of there. He used thinning shears but didn't even ask if I wanted to use the thinners or if I wanted my hair thinner. Now, my hair is just thin and stringy on the ends and I can't even curl my hair. The layers are not layers, and it now looks unhealthier now than before I went it. I have to grow it back a little and I'll need to schedule an appt to go all the way back to Union City to see my stylist Theresa of 15 yrs just so she can save my hair. Kenny made a glaring mistake on my hair, cutting off a front 2-inch chunk on one side, and made poor excuses for it. I came in a few weeks ago with an appointment and he chopped off a 2-inch chunk of my hair that wasn't supposed to come off at all, then he let me go home like that without saying anything. I came back once I saw it at home and he said he did it on purpose because he noticed it was difficult to comb that part of my hair back. I told him I use pomade in my hair and he said if he knew that he would not have cut my hair so unevenly. It sounds like an improvised and crazy excuse. If that were an honest explanation why would there not have been any communication at all about the issue before deciding to make such an important and visible decision? In order to fix it he said he could cut the rest of my hair dramatically shorter or screw up the other side to at least make it even. I decided to let it grow out and get it fixed elsewhere later. Kenny rushes through hair cuts because he has a lot of customers. As a few others have said, walk ins do cut into appointments. I had actually stopped going here for a couple years partly because I noticed he started being less careful, more distracted, etc. and decided to give it another chance, but this is my last time going here. He has skills but his refusal to take his time, to be careful, and to just be honest and own up to a mistake are not things I can personally accept as a customer. read more

Kenny took me in this afternoon for highlights. Although I loved how he gave me a lovely rich reddish brown hair color recently, with the advent of spring & summer, I wanted a lighter & modern look. First off, 3 different people worked on my hair and they were all friendly and all did a quality job :) The first two switched off straightening my hair and then Kenny did the haircut. Have been in search of a good haircut from someone who can cut Asian hair. I found it here. I was getting my haircut in SF for over 11 years and miss my hairstylist. Tried Kenny today with my hubby-made an appointment and we were seated immediately. Showed Kenny hairstyle for my hubby and in less than 10 minutes he was done and he did a great job. I was next in the chair and I showed him what I wanted. He worked his magic and I was pleasantly surprised with the haircut. I decided to patronize this establishment because it was so close to home and so clean looking from the outside! I initially went in for a regular mani/pedi (not gel because my nails grow way too fast to bother with gel nails) but somehow Kenny's mom convinced me that I needed "the gel". That the place I went to previously didn't really give me a real gel mani, it was fake gel that ruins nails.... Hymmmm ok. But she was so earnest in her schpeel that I just went along, lol. Oh and I got the deluxe pedi which came with a soak and a long massage. Needless to say I spent almost two hours there. I wasnt planning on that. I left a happy lady. I'd like to go back and try a haircut from Kenny. I liked the way he treated his clients. And in the almost 2 hour span I was there he cut hair for two and both women left really happy. The people were very nice especially one of the ladies. Kenny was really nice too, but when I came in, he was in so much rush. He cut my hair in under 7 minutes and I ended up not going out for 2 weeks. He had cut my hair so short and so uneven. I cried really hard when I came home because I always took good care of my hair and this was the worst haircut I had in my life. He even shaved my baby hairs by my neck which made them look so ugly and weird. He didn't even ask me and just decided to shave it. I was taken aback when he did it because I have never gotten it shaved off. Whenever I went to work, I always made sure to cover up with a beanie because the first time people saw my hair, they laughed. I wish he just told me he was too busy to cut my hair instead of rushing. Until now, you could see how messed up my hair is on the sides and I'm just patiently waiting for it to grow longer so I could get a proper haircut. I will never come back to this place again. Kenny didn't really try to communicate with me whether the length was okay before he started cutting. My hair just got shorter and shorter the whole time I was there. Never has the combination of Yelp and word of mouth steered me so wrong - however, buried among the many positive reviews you may find echos of my experience. Kenny did not listen to what I wanted at all - nor did he deliver it. When I mentioned friends of ours who had recommended him by mouth he had no idea who they were and acted almost annoyed at my effort to get him to recollect them - it was like these people, who had referred business to him, were completely unimportant. What is worse, he left my hair decidedly worse when I walked out than when I went in. He left both dye and bleach on my hair for an inordinate length of time. The bleach was put in exactly the wrong places - not at all where I wanted the streaks that I had originally requested be bright red (he told me this was impossible and talked me into some blond streaks). However, the very, very worst thing - the thing that had me crying when I got home and now, nearly two months later, is still problematic - was the way he horribly thinned my hair. "Nice and light for the summer", he said as he finished the butchery and I looked on with eyes grown increasingly traumatized - from concerned, to frightened to downright - "Oh shit, what the fuck did I just let this person do to my hair?" He even cut a chunk of hair out in the middle of my bangs. Who does that? I don't have thick hair to start with - in fact, it's rather thin. Why would you take away what little volume I have and destroy any efforts to add length for months to come? Furthermore, I live in El Cerrito where summer temperatures stall out around 68 (I told him this but as he had no idea where El Cerrito was, I guess it didn't make it difference), so "nice and light for the summer" is pretty damn useless to me. This is the first haircut that has ever left me in tears. Perhaps it is possible to get a good haircut here - but word to the wise - if you don't want your hair thinned, you'd better make that known loud and clear. read more

I came in with a group of 4 others and Kenny worked on all of us (we all had hair appts - 4 color and 1 cut). Went on a Friday afternoon and waited about 30 minutes because he was very busy. Customer service was exceptional and even offered all customers cookies!! This was my first time getting my hair done and I was slightly nervous but rest assured, he told me that everything will be fine. I had a few photos to show for reference because I'm very indecisive and he immediately knew what I wanted. After sitting for 2 hours I was amazed at the results!!
