This is truly one of the worst ran hospitals in RI. There are some really great doctors and nurses here... but just as many third rate ones who I will describe as both infuriating and dangerous to encounter. Every time my elderly father ends up here it's a fiasco. I have so many stories I could write a book. The emergency room is a mash unit maze of a hellhole if you ever get stuck here god help you! Everything from it's layout to how it is run is a nightmare. I blame a lot of the problems on poor administration. The security people here who are probably from an outside company are a bunch of bozos. Unfortunately, this is the hospital you will most likely end up at if you're in medical straights somewhere in Warwick, Coventry or East Greenwich and need to call 911. 3 stars because the wait wasn't terrible as far as time goes. Having to sit next to a gentleman throwing up everything he ate since 1988 almost the entire time seems a bit much. There's no place else to put someone that sick? You just leave them in the waiting room? Was there for an infection in a location known to spread to bone easily. Was there for symptoms very similar to having a bone infection. I had to ask for antibiotics because they were going to discharge me with nothing. No blood work, no X-ray, nothing, and I have very good insurance. They could have banged the hell out of it too but they didn't. In the end I feel like it was a waste. Yeah I got antibiotics but I don't have any answers and no one knows if I in fact have a bone infection.... Needless to say I'll be going elsewhere in a few weeks when I'm in need of the ER for this same issue that no one cared to look at there, at Kent. read more

Pretty sad if people recommend dying before going to Kent Hospita which was good at one time..My sister was brought there today by ambulance because she was in excruciating pain day and night..unable to walk, sleep, lay down etc..so bad that she said she can't live with this pain..she was there 1 week ago when the took an xray and was discharged hours later with meds..never received anything for pain while there..today she was sitting there for about 7 hours..never was seen by a doctor. But a nurse .ptactitioner who recommended a xray..which she already had the week before..My nephew had to point it out because, obvously the did not read her chart..he asked for an mri...She is a diabetic, 76 years old, recently had a heartattack and a stroke at the same time plus other serious conditions..Was not given as much as a water or a few lousy crackers..My nephew.waited for hours and finally checked how.much longer when they finally told him it would be.in the.morning..It didn't seem very busy..Finally he said that he is not leaving his mother there to suffer like this through the night..Then they suggested ibuprofen which she is definately not allowed to take because she.is on blood thinner shots..For crying out loud Kent don't you think it's time to change.something? I recently had my hip replaced at Kent Memorial Hospital. I can't say enough good things about the hospital. Each staff member that I came in contact with was professional, friendly, and caring. I went through a rather scary procedure and came out of it feeling like I was in the best of hands. My surgeon, Dr. Thomas Barrett was exceptional. I was very impressed at the level of care they take in avoiding infections, not something you want to deal with after joint replacement. I am five weeks postop and doing great following the surgery. I'll be back when it's time to do my other hip. read more

FOUR bad experiences in 3 years. First the Breast center misdiagnosed me and lied about "losing" my paperwork. Thankfully I am with a specialist now (NOT AT KENT) Second, my mother was admitted after a bad fall and the ortho doc said it was a bruise, sent two PT up to get her to stand and walk. She passed out from the pain. I had to insist they leave the room immediately(she actually had shattered her knee and I took her out of the hospital the next day and moved her to South County Hospital for emergency knee reconstructive surgery) I had to request an ambulance. Kent refused to help us. Third, my father had fluid around his lungs and heart last year, his doc ONLY wanted a specific out patient test done but the "Kent experts" decided he was critical and admitted him. They almost killed him by wanting to do an unnecessary procedure that was stopped by his original ordering doc who pulled him out of the hospital immediately. They never contacted the original ordering doc, I had to call them and let him know what Kent was doing and he contacted the nurses immediately. The floor he was on had elderly, dying patients and the nurses were horrible with anyone who was coherent or asked questions. It felt like a death ward. Lastly, an acquaintance had knee replacement surgery. He was admitted overnight. The nurse who took out his catheter spilled all the urine and left it for him to be in. NEVER cleaned it up or requested sheet change or gown change. read more

I would actually not give Kent Hospital any stars if i could. I took my daughter to be seen @ 5:30pm and she was called in @ 9:30pm just to be placed on a recliner in the hallway with other patients back to back to wait a few more hours and NO HIPAA MEDICAL PRIVACY. As soon as she was place in the hallway they were asking for the copay, gready MF as if they don't overcharge the Ins. already. She was finally treaded @ 11:00pm and discharged @ 12:30am. On Wednesday morning I had out patient surgery at Kent Hospital. I'm posting this experience because the exceptional care I received deserves accolades because it was indeed flawless. The admission process was simple and quickly accommodated. The pre op was done efficiently and all personnel connected with my procedure were kind and compassionate which helped quell my anxiety. They provided a level of professionalism which soothed concerns and I knew I was being cared for by experts in the execution of their pre-op duties. I woke up in recovery and was greeted by 2 nurses with smiles, coffee and a pkg or two of Lorna dunes.. They were very attentive to my needs and kept a close eye on all things nurses in a recovery environment need to watch. They helped me dress, called Kathy and wheeled me out to our car.. I got home and I started the recovery process. Kathy told me that Dr Cristesco ,(the surgeon), called her shortly after the surgery and told her all went well and spent as much time on phone with her as she needed. His office called us the next day to checkup on me and they were told all was well. They told Kathy to call if anything was needed.. To conclude this rather long post ,(and thanks for reading this far into it), I say the following : For those that know me well, they know that I have endured 10 surgeries over the years ,(mostly orthopedic elective). Kent stands out above the rest.. (who were fine ,but will go unmentioned here). Thank you Kent Hospital, thank you Dr Cristesco, and thank you to the many people that administered their skills with surgical skill,(pun intended), to my very minor, open right inguinal hernia repair. He is the worst social worker if ever met in my life and I've seen plenty as I suffer from mental illness. After tiring to talk to this social worker I feel worse than before. Kent hospital staff sent my mother home with a collapsed lung pneumonia and a bedsore stage three because she was neglected from Kent!! You are all going to be getting Sued. You are disgusting. The complete negligence lack of empathy and down right neglect was a disgrace!! I had no choice to give a one star but you deserve what you gave my poor innocent mother NOTHING!! She was scared and couldn't breathe because she had a collapsed lung. You sent her home like that and the congestion she had sounded like water going down a drain. Kent hospital staff you wouldn't allow my mother social services!! We begged!! We were told a psych evaluation is only given for people who display bipolar or schizophrenia symptoms. (Mike nurse) was told to say that. Also, we begged for several days to see a social worker, and A. the nurses said they requested it; but we were told Ruth was breathing fine it was her anxiety. Ok social worker? It was a collapsed lung. Sending her home with paperwork that they are required to send which was called education. Doctors and staff undermined my Son and I and secretly called an ambulance to send my mother home, before she was ready. Doctor's and staff went into Ruth's room and told her she was going home. I said NO!! Sue her nurse was a disgrace. She screamed at my mother that she was breathing when my mother wasn't!! Neglect and malpractice. The third floor for seniors is a slaughter house!! Death panel!! Palliative care Dr. was a total savage to my mom. Dr. Nepal and Dr. A. Were ok. The rest you will be hearing from our attorney. Pace program donors you allow less than mediocre care!! My daughter sat there for 10 hours finally was seen a nurse grabbed my daughter's arm and pulled her leaving a bruise I was escorted out of the hospital because they said I was rude you just black and blue my daughter of course I'm going to be rude this is the worst hospital they do not care about their patients they do not care if you're suffering suffering in the waiting room. People come by ambulance they get put in the waiting room they have hallways lined with chairs which I would believe is a fire hazard they are overbooked, under staffed, to learn some manners if I could have gave them a zero I would absolutely horrible experience I will never go there again! read more

Unless you don't have a choice, go elsewhere for treatment. ER wait time is incredibly long, and while admitted, you may be forgotten. My husband has been here for pancreatitis, and the doctor team seems to be aloof, have poor communication, the room's AC is broken (79 degrees and rising), he wasn't fed 2 of his meals until I called the hospital to complain, and the nurse staff on the fourth floor are inattentive unless you are a squeaky wheel. My husband was incorrectly told by one doctor that he had gall stones, and another said he might need surgery....when the rest of the team said the complete opposite. The nurses didn't check on him for over 4 hours until I called, even though his room is a mere 20 feet from the nurses' desk. Inattentive, faulty cooling, poor communication and an inept health care team. Go elsewhere! read more

I went to the hospital at 3am on a Sunday for severe abdominal pain. I knew it was my appendix and I was guessing it had ruptured. I am a 61 year old female and in good health otherwise. Upon arrival at the emergency room, there were approximately 10 people in the waiting room. No one was bleeding or in obvious distress. I was checked in and explained that I thought my appendix had ruptured and I was crying due to the pain. The person taking my vitals asked me about nasal discharge (seriously? I was crying.) I explained (duh) that it was from crying. She sent me out to the waiting room. Two hours later, they called me back in and put in an IV and took blood. Again I said I was in severe pain. Again they sent me back to the waiting room to sit in the stiff plastic chairs. 2 hours later and it appeared that the hospital was opening for the day. I was called into triage and put in a bed. All this time, the pain was excruciating. Just after 7am, I saw my first doctor in the ER and the first person to even touch me. After one touch, he said he believed I had a ruptured appendix (duh) and needed to order a CAT scan to confirm. More blood was taken. An hour later, a CAT scan was done. Another hour for the results. I was moved out of triage and put in some sort of holding area where there was clearly a shortage of nurses. I finally got something for the pain and was told I would need surgery (duh). In this area of curtained cubes, there was no privacy and I could hear everybody's business. I was told I couldn't drink anything but could have ice chips, which I kept asking for but were never delivered. At one point I was told they may have to wait until the next day for the surgery. I was very upset at this point. About an hour later, they came and told me they found someone to do the surgery that day and they would come to get me shortly. Finally, around 3pm, they took me to the surgical floor and I was in surgery an hour later. So, all told, it was roughly 13 hours from my arrival at the ER to the surgery, during which time there was an infection leaking into my abdomen. I just also want to mention that the surgeon had the audacity to tell me that I waiting too long before coming in. I am home and on the mend now, but I would venture to say this was the WORST experience of my life. It is unbelievable that this is the way an emergency room operates! As a side note: For some reason, I was sent to maternity for post-op care and the 2 nurses that cared for me were wonderful individuals - professional, caring and considerate. read more

My vote for the worst hospital staff, especially the ICU. Seems as though they all have a dadgum chip on their shoulders. So far, I've requested that two nurses be removed from his care because their attitudes and lack of professionalism. The housekeeping staff is more professional than the doctors and nurses here! I fully understand why they have a two star rating. I am so upset that a nurse shaved my husband's face and removed a mole that has not stopped bleeding. I made a dressing myself because the Band-Aids are worthless. I pulled his sheet back earlier and discovered urine that he has been lying in since yesterday. I did the clean up myself. During treatment for unconfirmed pneumonia, while under heavy sedation with restraints, my husband managed to pull the tubes from his throat 3 times. Even though he is a very, very strong man, I believe negligence played a part in these episodes. Patient families should be on strike until they shut this place down or hire mature, caring, and professional staff members. I will stop here, even though much more can be recounted. Discharge cannot come soon enough. We will definitely follow up elsewhere. read more

I had surgery here and a week later I woke up at 3 in the morning in the worse pain ever. I thought I was dying. I was taken to Kent by ambulance and they sat me out in the waiting room for over 3 hours. The people in triage are of no use, and have no medical knowledge, it's apparent. I ended up leaving going home calling my doctor when they opened because there was only an hour to go from when they opened at that point. Go to my doctors they send me immediately in for testing at Kent, no wait this time due to medical orders. I had a mass bile leak and was going septic. I was admitted immediately and back into surgery. I will never return to this hospital. I will not go to any doctor that only provides through Kent. The only good thing I received out of this was an awesome gastro doctor who affiliates with other practicing hospitals, thank god! I wouldn't even bring my dog here if it was the last place on earth. read more

If you have a child 13 or under that needs care, just keep driving up to Hasbro. We stopped here on a Sunday for a straightforward broken arm and after nearly 4 hours getting X-rays and some medicine for pain they told us they don't treat children. And because after an hour they had administered morphine for pain we had to now put the child in an ambulance to get to a real hospital. ($750 for a taxi ride) It cost us $4500 for this mistake. Bed fee, various doctor fees, and xrays. And I'm not sure we have even received all the bills yet. They should have told us they couldn't do anything when we walked in. On the positive side they were mostly polite. But politeness isn't worth $5k Criminal behavior. Hasbro was excellent. read more

Not much good to report here. The positives were that my wife got seen pretty quickly, and one of the doctors and some of the nursing staff was nice enough. The negatives were that they didn't do much of anything to help my wife that day. I admit that she doesn't have good veins, but two different nurses were not successful, and one of them became huffy when she asked for a hard stick nurse. No testing of any kind was done. The attending ER Doc only spent 2-3 minutes with us. I think because it was starting to get busy they dismissed us without a second thought. We would rather have gone to Rhode Island or Miriam Hospitals, but we were in the Warwick area and the rescue wouldn't take her anywhere else. I would only recommend coming here for something very minor. What a waste of time! read more

This is the worst hospital I've ever been to when i gave birth there a nurse told me while i was having my first child 'it doesn't hurt that bad your being a drama queen' because i was crying from the pain mind you this was my first time giving birth and when i asked her how many kids she had she smirked at me and said none, so how can u tell me something doesn't hurt especially if you've never gone through it??? Another time when i went i had an infection that almost killed me they told me it was nothing that i wasn't sick so i went to rhode island hospital and luckily they caught it in time and saved me. For what it's worth, and nobody likes hospital experiences, Kent's nurses, PA's, and general staff are very kind and considerate of patients and their families. I had two members in the hospital here last week for different reasons. One found us sitting in the ER for hours, the other found us sitting in a waiting room for hours. Total stay between these two patients was one full week. In the ER, we were checked on every twenty minutes, while the tests and scans were being prepared. In the waiting room; we were able to see updates on progress on a monitor. Occasionally, a staff member would come in and have a conversation just to put us at ease. A hospital is hectic. Yes, there were delays, but we also found ourselves there during a surge - meaning a heightened demand. This hospital does their best and I'm glad that, of anywhere to get treatment, Kent was the location. read more

The nurses all have horrible attitudes, also this place is quite dangerous as well people in handcuffs people asking to buy cigarettes off you before you enter the building. Lastly how can a hospital be on overfill at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. Miriam Hospital 3/5 my opinion the best hospital in the state used to be 4/5 before Memorial Hospital since then they had to take on far more people from Pawtucket and the quality of care has dropped in respond to that. absolutely disgusting. i spent over 5 hours in an almost empty ER. staff kept saying there crowded and busy but when i was wheeled to get a cat scan 4 hours after i was checked in transport girl said she was thankful iot was slow. and showed me the back half of the ER and it was empty. you even had 5 or 6 seniors with name and date tags helpin patients but i was still there from 9 to 230. from 9am almost an hour an a half befor i was brought back for xrays. thats 1030 , almost 1250 before i recieved an mri. and to top it off i told them when i got there im alergic to steroids. they put an alergy bracelet on me . but before i was rdy to leave the nurse came in and said here i have meds for you to take before you leave. she didnt even tell me what they were i had to ask what it was. the nurse told me oh its steroids. THEY WANTED TO ME TAKE THE GOD DAM PILLS IM ALERGIC TO . I SAID FUCK NO. so the nurse walks to the doctor and all she says to him , he refuses to take the medicine. ( didnt say im alergic just said he refuses) so i yelled out to the dam doctor . i told you people im alergic and u offer me what im alergic to without telling me what it was. what is wrong with you people . THE DOCTOR THEN COMES WLKING OVER AND SAYS WELL WE JUST WANTED TO SEE IF U WANTED TO TAKE IT. , I SAID OH YA WITHOUT TELLING ME WHAT IT WAS. YOUR PURPOSELY TRYING TO MEDICALLY SCREW ME. then the doc says well you dont have to take it. last time i was at kent hospital i was there for bleeding out my backside. kent doctors left me bleeding on the floor of the er room from 10 pm to 3 am before i was seen . but they did keep taking people who walked in off the street helping and releasing them before i wqas even seen. this hospital has become a vile place. i hate the staff there. vile people giving medication to people to make them sick and not tell them . if i had the money ii would file a law suit for being assault with harmful steroid medication with intent to cause harm. read more

If you are looking for a quality hospital with caring and compassionate nurses and doctors, you have come to the wrong place. The degree of dysfunction is almost indescribable. No wonder why people die while waiting for care. They don't take your symptoms seriously, ignore abnormal vital signs and yell at patients and their visitors. We had to beg for a vomit bag and were told we should have just waited for the bathroom to become available. The nurses badmouth patients families members right in front of them as if being alone in the emergency room isn't terrifying enough for a kid who isn't feeling well anyway. Add insult to injury and kick 'em when they are down is a new form form of medical care at this dump. Now I'm pretty sure the triage nurse Rachet is intentionally mistreating the patients to make them sick with dirty COVID swabs and unnecessary tests to get back at people for seeking care. Do yourself a favor and if you have 10 out of 10 chest pain, dig a hole in your backyard and lie in it. It will be less humiliating than begging for help at this death trap of a "hospital". This hospital is only interested in making money, not helping you. You will get bills from the doctors then another astronomical amount from the hospital. If you get injured or need help, don't go here, if it is a real emergency, it is better to take your chances and try to heal yourself. I had gastric sleeve surgery. The surgeon and staff were awesome! While in the Hospital I had one person who annoyed the crap out of me. In all fairness she was short handed and I was fresh out of surgery( so it may have just been me). Overnight I had a nurse who was the best nurse I've ever known. Please pay attention when I say this. I've been in many hospitals and this woman needs to train people how to do IV's, and bedside manner. The staff is wonderful but Kent County Hospital is a horror show. The worst conditions I've seen in any hospital in Rhode Island. Wait times are incredibly ridiculous. I understand that there were people ahead of me with more pressing problems than mine. But I sat in the reception area and watched as that room filled and emptied twice before I was called 4 hours later. And then I was basically shoved in a corner room and forgotten about for hours. Getting to my CT scan was relatively quick in comparison but having to wait 3 more hours for an ultrasound was ridiculous and I finally refused the procedure and left or I probably would have been there for 11-12 hours. The Affordable Care Act at its best! I have the best insurance available for government employees and am a veteran and yet some moron with no Insurance who was walking his dog and on his way to get methadone when he od'd on fentanyl got incredibly better service than I did. I might be dying next time but I will never go back to Kent County Hospital again!!! read more

Was there yesterday...what. Joke of a hospital Er...short staffed and received two dramatically different diagnosis within an hour and only after sending the PA to talk to the attending dr to take a second look at my ultra sound. My gown had blood and a bandaid stuck to it!!! I was disgusted!Last time we were here my husband was given discharge paperwork for a different issue with another guys name on it! Same thing with his drs note! He ended up having to talk to the person overseeing the hospital as it was an accident claim- if you want to protect your identity and want proper diagnosis and paperwork , go somewhere else! Lesson learned after this recent event! And it was filthy! Sheets covering the floor where vomit or diarrhea was- maybe clean it before bringing more people trough? Got here at 8pm on a Thursday night for a really bad stomach problem. There were about 8 people in front of me when I first got here.... It's 12:47am and I have got no update. People who were here before me are all gone and most of the people who came AFTER me have already left. This place is super ridiculous and don't take their jobs serious. I had a bad head injury. they didn't access anything. swelling is worse and even scabbing now. when my mom told them I felt like I'd pass out they told her if she'd like to tell somebody else in in worse state than other she can. After I waited four more hours I went to the check in and said it's swelling worse and I've been here for four hours? she told me if we thought it was an emergency we would have seen you by now! It's upsetting that I explained a terrible experience/putting in a formal complaint with Brad about an appointment I had with Dr. Arshad Iqbal (Neurologist), and Brad promissed he'd call me back within 2 weeks about it but that was 2 months ago and I still haven't heard back from Brad or anyone from Kent Hospital about my complaint. That's terrible since Brad's job is to care about patients complaints and help resolve the issues, but very unfortunately he is showing he doesn't care/isn't helpful. It's ironic that on the back of his business card he gave me says Kent Hospital's logo is, "Navigating quality care, together", but instead it should say, "not at all". Terrible! read more

Was seen right away. 4 nurses were there to start treatment on me. Got me totally taken care of. They were so kind and helpful.from main nurse to respiratory nurse. Of course I was admitted but after 8 or so hours I was still waiting for regular bed. I was told I was probably going to be there in the er all nite. But with the great help from nurses and drs. I was able to go home. Would like to especially thank Jackie for being so nice and helpful to me. She was great! Also Jennifer was so helpful and nice to me. Thank you! read more

look I understand it's flu season and I understand there are ambulances coming in.. however... when your sent to the ER from a walk in clinic that can't treat you.. you patiently wait your turn. four hours in and I ask the triage nurse kim for an update and she was rude unprofessional and not in the right profession. Based on a pre-surgery visit (blood work, ekg, etc.), I sat there feeling I was in a third-world country. Think Bolivia. I couldn't believe how dingy the building and room were. The woman taking my blood and applying the ekg electrodes, just inches away from my face, wore her mask below her nose despite the pandemic (this took place in early November, 2021). Her supervisor was in the room with us and said nothing. Fortunately, my surgery was canceled, so I did not need to experience any more of Kent Hospital. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. They do not take you or your symptoms seriously. I'm at high risk of a Tia/stroke and felt dizzy and lightheaded, with the onset of a sudden headache. They felt it was appropriate to stick an iv in my arm and then send me back into the waiting room for over four hours without ever being seen once, all the while, taking people who came in long after me (one who was talking to people in the waiting room expressing how he thought he had a broken foot) and never once checking on me or anything. Out of sight, out of mind. If this place doesn't kill you with their treatment, they'll just let you die in the waiting room. When I inquired about this I was told "other people are of higher priority and I could've gone elsewhere." YES!!! A potential broken foot IS DEFINITELY of higher priority than a screening for a TIA (extreme sarcasm) so, I left and went somewhere else. Absolutely HORRENDOUS hospital. If you can make it somewhere else, I highly advise going somewhere else. Let's not forget how they let actor James Woods' brother die in the waiting room some years ago. They've not changed at all.
