Seriously... what's not to love?? High end sushi plus great service... and perfect place for people watching

We had a great overall first time experience at Kessaku. We made reservations to celebrate a birthday. A few cons: When we got to the second floor to get our champagne for the elevator ride up, there were two employees talking to each other behind the champagne bar. Eventually one left and the other acknowledged us. She told us she was out of cups and apologized. This seemed weird as it was 7 pm on a Friday. We were a little disappointed but left to go back to the elevators. Second, the server knew we were celebrating a birthday. At the end we received sake juice boxes with a candle in one. Although they were very cute and unique, nothing can beat a cake on your birthday so wish we had a dessert option instead. Mainly pros: The atmosphere is incredible. We loved the speakeasy vibes and taking in the views. Our food was phenomenal, possibly ruined every other sushi restaurant I'll go to in the future. The menu is small and I truly believe that everything on it was perfected. We had a really friendly server who made great recommendations on food and drink throughout the night. Lastly, elevator staff and valet staff were helpful in pointing us in the right directions and chatting with us while we waited. Overall we'll 100% come back and are hopeful that a few minor things will be different in the future. read more

I'm not too much into sushi but I like new experiences so I booked a reservation for two. the King Crab Rol and matcha cake we got was really good. the drinks were good as well. it would be better if they had some appetizers as we were still hungry after. I don't have to do it again but I'm glad I did. nice ambiance as well - nothing to complain about if you're a sushi fanatic. read more

Ok so i do not leave reviews. this is my 4th time here and i feel obligated to leave a review and tell everyone to get the king crab and surf and turf roll. I do not have a picture because my friend and i ate it so fast, but let me tell you it is worth every over priced penny you spend here. For the price, it's overrated. Had the Tower for $250 - good but nothing that's memorable - there are just as good or better Japanese in Dallas for less. Ambiance could be better as well; it's a bit too dark and the music is a bit too loud. Staff was good but not great. Would have given 4 stars but it's too pricey. I was expecting more. read more

This place is just beautiful inside! It's located at the national in downtown dallas. They have valet outside or a garage across the street. In the lobby you're greeted with a champagne glass and escorted to the elevator. Once you are up there you go into kessaku and are treated with an amazing dallas skyline view. The food itself is insane. Pictured is the king crap roll that's served with literal butter to dip. So decadent. My friend and I sampled a bunch of rolls and loved them all. They had a great drink selection to. Will definitely go back. read more

It's expensive and pretentious as fuck but the people that work there are cool, the vibes are good and the view is unbeatable from 50+ floors above Dallas. The food is overpriced for what you get, but you're not paying for the food at Kessaku. read more

Beautiful lounge. Great cocktails. The shiso sour is special, and the Kyoto old fashioned is very good. Expertly prepared and visually works of art. For a light bite, try the spicy salmon roll or the spicy tuna roll. Both are great, but I lean towards the salmon. Leave enough time to walk around the perimeter. There are floor to ceiling windows for great views of Dallas. You can walk around or sit in some of the seats located in the promenade. Lots of spots to take a selfie. read more

Kessaku had a very big reputation and we decided to check it out. Let's just say that they blew it out of the roof. Although you do have to be willing to spend some serious money for the items are not cheap, I strongly believe that Kessaku is the hottest destination for sushi in Dallas. To start off, the service was amazing. The staff were very friendly and they even went out of their way to replace our table that was too wobbly! Not to mention the location, oh my gosh the location! Its located on the 50 floor of the Thompson Hotel and the view is absolutely stunning. We came for here dinner and the sunset was beautiful. Along with that, the seating is very luxurious and the music boosts the feel of the environment. Finally for the cherry on top is the wonderful sushi. We didnt even order and we just had the chef cook the recommendations and specialties. It came out in a flash and it was mouthwatering. The entire assortment of sushi dishes were nothing short of delicious. My favorite bite was the Japanese waygu beef topped with caviar and real gold flakes. I would highly recommend Kessaku if you are willing to spend some money for a really nice meal and a breathtaking view. PS: Arriss is the best waitress! Kessaku is a stylish establishment with beautiful decor, pumping music, and great 50th floor view and dim lighting. I imagine the dim lighting is purposeful because they need to disguise how badly made their sushi actually is. The chef must be using one dull knife because the sashimi came out uneven and ragged, like it was tore off rather than carefully sliced. The nigiri fall apart at the touch of the chop stick and the rice were misshapened. The odd shape applies to the rolls as well. Come here for the atmosphere, the ambiance, and excellent service, but do not come here if you expect great sushi. read more

A delightfully posh experience for a birthday dinner. We made reservations about 2 weeks or so in advance. We got seated by the window, amazing views. You're even higher up than reunion tower! I am a Dallas native, DFW gorrrrl, and have never seen Dallas this way. We were impressed by the limited menu, but "settled" for the tower which I highly recommend as it's the best of the best of the chef. WOW, we were overwhelmed by the amount of food, the selections, the freshhhhhh fish, and the A5 wagyu with caviar! Our server made us feel so special. We had a blast dining, as well as chatting with our lovely server. This was a beautiful experience and would recommend for anyone celebrating an occasion. read more

I only came for the drinks however I was pretty disappointed with the service. It was crowded so I understand the bartenders being a little slammed, but there was a bartender that just took my card and did not ask if I wanted to open a tab or not. I was waiting for over 30 minutes trying to figure out where my card was and when we were finally able to flag him down he was extremely rude. I would not expect this kind of service at a place that is so nice. Overall the view is spectacular and the drinks were pretty good. read more

Walked in to a hostess that was having a conversation with a coworker and wouldn't even look forward, had her back turned to ignore any customers walking in. Clogged toilet filled with shit in the restroom. Waitress that just gave the bare minimum effort of any ordinary restaurant. Good views and food but not much else. read more

Ambiance is AMAZING. Nice intimate tone with trendy music to go with awesome evening vibes. The secret to this space is there are city views going all around the perimeter of the dining area. Great for photos or a quieter area to talk. New favorite spot. Loved it!!! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. For starters I had a reservation for 4 people at 10:15, & weren't seated till 11:00. hosts were rude & no nothing of customer service. The menu was small. Service was horrible & the food wasn't as good as I expected especially for the price. A $300 tab for some basic sushi. I'd much rather just go to uchi. Honestly even blue fish or deep sushi or Yama sushi. I swear McDonalds has better service than this place. I will never be back. but the drinks were alright. I am so so so disappointed by this. First, they charge you $50 for making the reservation through seven rooms- even if you show up, it's added to your bill.. Second, the food was abysmal. We are avid fans of Uchi and Yutaka and literally did not finish our plates on multiple dishes because the sushi was so bad. The menu was extremely limited- which would've been okay had the quality been sub par at best. I love wagyu in every form and couldn't stomach their wagyu nigiri. If you want a scene with bad service then this is your place, but I will never set foot in this restaurant again. read more

Wasn't a big fan of Kessaku. We like to eat at nice places and don't mind spending money on food. The menu is very limited and the prices for the sushi roles are high - i.e a spicy tun roll at Kessaku is much money expensive than at NOBU. I think $19 vs. $13. Therefore we stayed for drinks only and ordered a bottle of wine (because the cocktails are all $20 - which is a NYC price, not a Dallas price). The waitress took a while and when she finally came with glasses, she came with one red and one white wine glass. Very odd, considering that we were waiting on a bottle of white wine. I also don't like that the restaurant doesn't have a sushi bar where you can see the chefs at work. The views are nice, but the restaurant is on the wrong side of the building. Plus you get these views in many places in Dallas. It's the little things and this is why we won't be back. read more

They certainly had an idea and executed it. Kessaku is up there with one of the swankiest/over the top restaurant experiences you will have in Dallas. The cocktails are pretty good, rather expensive but that is what you're paying for on the 50th floor. The service was fairly good, as was the vibe and overall experience. With that being said, its really not a great sushi restaurant. The menu is extremely limited and has more alcohol than it does food. Japanese food is about harmony and subtlety. The flavors of the fish, garnishes and rice can not overpower each other. The makimono rolls and sushi lack a cohesiveness about the identity of the cuisine they are advertising. The waiter/waitresses are not even remotely competent in the food they are serving, just because they "fly the fish in from the bahamas" (that was an actual quote) doesn't mean they serve ultra-grade raw fish. Overall the blue-fin akami was definitely good but the others including the wagyu, yellowtail and salmon were disappointing. The tuna tartare was honestly the worst part of the night as it was little more than a loose conglomeration of its ingredients mashed into a mushy delivery. Treat Kessaku what it is, a super nice bar/tapas venue that almost resembles a speakeasy with good drinks and a second-to-none interior/view, and you will have a great experience. If you want great, modern Japanese food in a far more casual setting, go to Uchi or Uchiba and the folks there not only serve better fish but also know what the hell they're talking about. read more

We came here thinking this place would be amazing. First we pull up to Valet and you Have to stop in the middle of the street, EXTREMELY UNSAFE! As we were about to get out of the car we were side swiped and dragged a bit (as the other car was stuck to our 2 day old BMW.) The way the valet is organized and set up is again extremely UNSAFE and they COULD CARE LESS. It was the worst experience. No cones, no signs No SAFE way to enter valet. Oh and apparently NO ONE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VALET SO BE AWARE!!! The hotel says it's not their valet but their name is on the ticket, monarch states it's not their valet but their name is on the ticket. Kessaku states they have no relation with the valet but THEIR NAME IS ON THE TICKET. Oh if you have a Ferrari you can pull up on the sidewalk out of traffic. This was how we started our night. Cordi is the only reason for stars. She was amazing!! The service here is absolutely horrible. The rolls are gas station quality both in taste and presentation. The view was amazing since it's on the 50th floor. The soy sauce was as if it were just salt. Our $21 gas station roll could all fit in the palm of my hand. The ambiance is classy. The security has no personality so we were sure of what they wanted us to do. We got a thumbs up at the door after they confirmed our reservation but then he didn't say anything... read more

For your personal planning, you will take the elevator up to the 49 th floor and then have to walk a flight of stairs to get up to the 50th floor. Didn't see a wheelchair lift. This place is beautifully decorated and has a stunning view. It's a little pricey, but very intimate for a special occasion. Best to make reservations but beware, you are asked for your credit card info and if you do not give enough notice when cancelling there could be a charge of $25 per person table was reserved for, which I am personally ok with, if I make a reservation, I will follow through. The communication is great per text. However, even tough there is a dress code that most people are following, you still have cool people coming in wearing their ripped jeans. read more

I did my homework. I wanted to have a nice meal with a great view. Kessaku did not disappoint! The cocktails were on point but the King Crab roll is what will bring us back. They called when we were on our way to confirm our reservation. Brooke was an excellent server and steered us in the right menu selections.
