I've used Kessler for years. Matt is my main guy and he's the best. Kasey in the office always takes my calls and immediately answers any last minute email requests. Because I've used them for a very long time, they offered me zero interest in-house financing for a large job I needed to do quickly, at a time when I was really worried about cash flow. (I don't think they do this for too many of their clients but it shows loyalty and a willingness to help through a tough time when they/Matt knew I needed it. Everything on my end went well, from the initial call to their office to schedule an appointment, the ladies at the desk were kind, knowledgeable and prompt when booking me a slot. The guy who showed up, Bobby, was wearing a mask and was very professional, he asked me right away if there were any precautions he should be aware of prior to entering my home. For me, this was a plus, especially during these weary times. I've had different technicians (cable, internet, etc,) come and not have a care in the world if I had any house rules, etc during covid, so this was definitely my winner! The work they did was good, Bobby was able to replace the pipes in my shower and removed all the things blocking it from functioning properly. Once he was done, he even sanitized his area. If a negative rating were possible I'd give it. Absolute pirates. In a pinch used them twice for testing Backflow devices at two different business locations. Each time the claimed the valves had failed and had to be replaced, at great cost. This is quite a coincidence as I've only had one fail in thirty years of doing business at six locations. I later found out that they were fired from doing business in one of the cities I do business in for falsifying test results and requiring unnecessary installations of Backflow valves. Their technician cracked our drain pipe during the service visit and and damaged the tiles in our bathroom with his tools. It was insanely frustrating to get them to arrive in the first place (after 2 no-shows) but the result of their work was even worse than not showing up at all. THE GOOD: I've used Kessler for decades. And I want to continue to use them. Over the years I've experienced many Kessler plumbers, most very good. But rarely "excellent." Recently I had the pleasure of two wonderful plumbers, Bobby and Rodger. I rate these two plumbers as "excellent." They replaced an old 1940s sewer drain under the house where the bathroom is. They followed the pipes to find the blockage then replaced the pipes. Bobby made sure everything was done correctly, with expediency and done well. Extremely professional! I wish I could give Bobby TEN STARS! If you use Kessler, be sure to ask for Bobby & Roger. THE BAD: -- worth 2 stars. (Not the plumbers or office staff -- they're not at fault.) I'd put this on the owner. MONDAY early evening: Sewage suddenly came up the drain of our bathtub after flushing toilet. MAJOR BACKUP! We could no longer flush, fearing it would all overflow. I immediately called Kessler's after-hours emergency number 323-333-9677, leaving a message describing my emergency, to call me back. NADA! I made about 3 separate calls. NADA! Their website boasts: "Kessler Plumbing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to handle your plumbing and heating emergencies - call us now!" Tuesday I called "emergency #" a few more times, around 6:00 a.m. -- again, NADA! At 9:00 a.m. when they opened I reached a human. After explaining the problem I was told that nobody could come until Wednesday because an "emergency" had come up -- the crew would be out for the "emergency." I'M the one with the FIRST emergency call! Again we were without a toilet and shower! We actually had to drive to a nearby Von's bathroom to take dumps. Wednesday the office person told me a crew couldn't come early, as I'd requested, because they had another job "an emergency" in the morning. They'd come later. Like being without toilet and shower ISN"T an emergency??!! Finally around 11:00 a.m. Bobby and Roger came to search for the source of the blockage. They checked the main drain -- no problem, then had to search under house. But then they needed a camera/detector which THEY DIDN'T HAVE. It was being used on another job. They were forced to stop their work until they could get the equipment needed. We had to wait another day! Now 3 days with no toilet & shower with many trips to Von's! (note: over the decades Kessler's had the same problem -- no readily available equipment.) THURSDAY Bobby arrived mid morning with the sought-after precious infrared camera camera/detector. He and Roger located the blockage immediately. It was in an old 1940s cracked sewer pipe under house. Bobby explained he could go get new pipes but that they wouldn't be installed & ready until after 4:00 p.m. I told him I didn't want to pay over-time, could he bring them the next morning EARLY? He quickly said, "7:00 a.m. -- maybe 8:00 a.m." Beautiful! By Friday maybe we'd have a working toilet & shower. Better late than never?? Maybe that should be Kessler's motto. I might add that Bobby was kind enough to exchange phone #s with me days before, so he could text me when he finished the early "emergency" jobs. FRIDAY Bobby & Roger arrived at 7:30 a.m. with the new pipes. By 2:00 p.m. (with a very short lunch break) they had dug out the old pipe and replaced it with the new ones. They even shoveled back the dirt piles in front and left everything as clean as could be. Those two wonderful plumbers did everything they could to fix my problem -- it was the COMPANY that screwed up -- NOT THE WORKERS! Throughout our years with Kessler there has always been the problem of the plumbers not being able to have the equipment needed to make various repairs. It's not the fault of the workers, but the company. The only reason I'm giving 5 stars is because of Bobby and Roger's excellent work. I do hope the owner takes this constructive criticism to make Kessler better. Having enough trucks with cameras, etc. would make a huge difference. read more

We had a problem with electric central heater temperature was not going up, Kessler Technician name Robert came did NOT even had Thermometer Temp. Gun so I let him use my tool and did not know what to do and did not even know how to open the unit. Anyway so I called heating unit manufacturer Customer services and let customer service rep talk to Kessler Technician Robert and rep was teaching him how to check the heater step by step to Diagnose the problem , spend most of time , yet I had to pay for $198 dollars doing Keller's job done by Manufacture Customer technical support line. Have used Kessler for several emergencies in my apartment complex and they always arrive within the time frame. Their rates are extremely reasonable. The techs are so friendly and diligent. These guys will over charge you. I used to use them all the time for apartments I own and I also used to refer them to clients of mine (I sell real estate). BUT, their most recent visit was maybe 5-10 minutes to pull hair out of a clogged pipe. The plumber and I laughed about how quickly he solved the problem. When I got the bill they charged 1.5 labor hours (they say that's a minimum) and $40 for use of a snake. Total almost $180.00! My recommendation is use any other plumber for cheaper, more ethical service. Call these guys only if you have an emergency and cannot get in touch with anyone else. read more

I had someone come to my house to give me an estimate fix a pipe that was incorrectly connected. I didn't want to do it because it needed to be inspected.. He told me the minimum they charge was for 90 min and that would be $90. I left my daughter there and she ended up paying $200. Why? he told her that was how much it was. How long was he there? About 20 min and went out to get a part. (a connector that cost about $5.) Even with him leaving it was much less that 90 min. She had paid him. And didn't challenge the bill. I'm living in a house that is under construction and out of the dozens of people that have been hired to work on the house, Manny at Kessler Plumbing is person that has showed up on time, on both visits. Upon first visit, Manny identified the plumbing problem in the upstairs bathroom quickly and told he thought the part that I needed to replace was probably still under warranty so if I could wait a couple days, I'd save a couple hundred dollars by getting a free replacement. My warranty did end up covering the part, I received it a couple days later, and Manny came back to install it. He was very competent and thorough, and I haven't had a problem with the plumbing since. I trusted Manny 100%, he did a terrific job, saved me money, and I have absolutely no complaints. My elderly parents live in Silver lake and they experienced a back up in both restrooms including sinks and toilets. I called Kessler because they are located close - over the hill in Frog-Town. I initially spoke to Martha who was a little rough around the edges in terms of customer service and overall politeness. That should have been a sign to call someone else but I figured she was having a tough day so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She initially quoted me 185.00 just to have someone come out to diagnose the problem. Later that changed to 500.00 when she talked to my Mom (Shady Martha). They promised to be out to the house with in an hour.....no show after 3 hours I called (during business hours) and kept getting the answering machine at their office. Finally Martha answered and was rude stating, "All our plumbers are busy right now but i might be able to get someone out following day!" If she would have either initially told me this or called me back to let me know I could have reached out to another plumber. Needless to say that by this late time in the day I wasn't able to get anyone to come out and had to start all over the following day. Please don't use this outfit they are unprofessional, and that's being as kind as I can. read more

In the course of building a house in Los Angeles I had the opportunity to work with several plumbers and plumbing companies. Most were unreliable and poor communicators. The work always got done eventually, but it was an ordeal and not always done right. So, I was pleasantly surprised when came across Kessler. Two cheerful ladies run the show. Their plumbers are competent and care about the quality of their work. And when my project required outside expertise, they went out and found the right specialist to bring in. Did I mention their price quotes were competitive and they stuck to them? Kessler is who I will call first from now on. read more

I don't know why one would use this plumber, when there are many others with reasonable Yelp ratings. We did at the recommendation of a friend and did not look at Yelp. We had four simple jobs: to install three faucets and to remove a clog from the dishwasher drain. To be fair, we neglected to mention the fourth on the phone, but Kessler charges by the hour. 1. The plumber was scheduled to come on a Mon. or Tues. but didn't show and didn't call. Martha, their dispatcher, told us that they would give us a 10% discount for them to come on a Wed. 2. They sent Francisco, alone, who turns out to be an apprentice with about 6 months experience as a plumber and who was not up for the job. It is outrageous that they would send someone like this at their rates. He screwed up everything.. 1. Kitchen sink faucet. He put the spigot in crooked so that it swiveled from over the counter to halfway over the sink 2. Filtered water faucet: he installed it, but a competent plumber would have told us that it was too small for the sink. We now cannot set a glass in the sink and fill it up with water, as we could the original faucet. 3. Faucet in the bathroom: he installed with the bases asymmetrically but also managed to break the drain pipe in installing the drain mechanism. 4. The clog: he had me to go to a hardware store to get a hose between the dishwasher and disposal unit. Per the hardware store, I brought back a black rubber tube, which he said was the wrong one. I then went back to a store for a flex hose of some sort. I returned with that, when (back to (3)) he told me he needed hoses for the bathroom faucet. My wife then went to the store, at which point he told me that he didn't need it after all. He then left us with a broken drain pipe and the clog. He was at our house for over 4 hours to do basically a three hour job, which he messed up and did not finish. He apparently claimed to Martha that the bathroom drain pipe was old and broke when he touched it. I don't believe this, and nor should you, since he was not a trained plumber anyway. The next day, Martha sent Bobby. Some reviewers on Yelp have praised Bobby. I am not so sure. 1. He fixed the kitchen sink faucet. 4. He told me that it was the black rubber hose that was clogged. Since I had a new one there, he replaced the black rubber hose with the first one I bought, but one could just as easily have cleared out the old pipe. 3. He also adjusted the base of the bathroom faucet. However, the knobs have hot and cold labels on them, which are not symmetrically positioned. "Cold" faces you; "Hot" remains 80 off. Bobby had to knock a hole in the wall to repair the drainage pipe. However, he did not have the right sized cap to cover the entry of the pipe into the wall. Hence, we can still see the PVC pipe in the wall as well as a bit of the jagged edge of the tile, this made worse by the fact that he did not seal the cap to the wall. Bobby then tried to install the drain-cap mechanism in the faucet. He first tried to remove the sink to do this, but at least stopped when he realized that he would be cracking tile and sink. However, he said that he could not get behind the sink to remove a nut (about 2") because he did not have the right sized wrench. He was trying to use pliers and couldn't. But why wouldn't he have a full array of plumber wrenches? Martha tried to get us to pay for 4 hours of Francisco and 7+ hours of Bobby. Others have remarked on her billing inaccuracy. She admitted later that Bobby was at our house for 4:15, during which he was mostly dealing with Francisco's errors and not even finishing that. In the end we paid $627 just for Bobby's 4:15, mostly just to get rid of Kessler and never deal with them again. Needless to say, we did not get the 10% discount and had to make 4 trips to hardware stores (once to return the unused, second hose). They also would not pay to repair the wall, which cost us another $185 (they offered to repair the wall for $240). Finally, we sent Martha photos of the inadequate work left but never heard back. We also never received the requested bill. I wish I had checked Yelp first. And we still need a plumber to deal with the issues Bobby left. read more

I contacted Kessler for a bathroom remodel. I sent several emails before someone came out. The owner finally contacted me for the estimate. He came over December 1st. I had used them 2x before and they had no record of me. At any rate, they never sent an estimate despite me contacting them . I guess they are too busy and have bigger fish to fry. I will not be contacting them ever again. If you want to be overcharged and deal with an owner that's too busy to contact you then this is the plumber for you!!! read more

After the gas company found a gas leak, we called Kessler to locate and fix the leaks. First they sent a man to locate the leaks. He was there 25 minutes and we were charged $500. Then on a later day they sent 2 plumbers to fix the leaks. They didn't do everything they stated in their contract. No problem that they came late and didn't clean, but they didn't complete the job. They promised they'd send somebody to complete it, and the day they were supposed to come, I called to see where they were. She said they're not coming. So that left us without a working water heater. After promising, they changed their mind. What kind of way to do business is this? read more

These guys are wankers ! They sent one of their guys Carlos to fix my tenant's wall heater. He had to return 4 times because he hadn't managed to get it right the 1st time. I gave up on him and called Jack Stephan who came round and told me Kessler's guy had moved the limiter away from the vent, which allowed the heater to work but didn't allow for the shut-off to work. Fumes were not venting correctly. These wankers could have poisoned or killed my tenant. I called for a refund. Of course, they refused responsibility. AVOID !! read more

OMG. Run. Run Run away as fast as you can. They were (key word WERE) TERRIFIC in 2012, they are the worst EVER now in 2015. They are complete scammers and charge for work they didn't do. FULL DISCLAIMER: They charge 1.5 hours just to come out and take a look. They charge $95 an hour AND send amateur plumbers. NONE of this ever happened before... and I'm proof of this since I've used them as my go-to plumber since 2012. I'm so appalled by their business ethics. Nightmare customer service- Had Used Kessler to replace a 2k hot water heater- ignored their bad reviews Bc things seemed fine the first time around.. Booked a different appt days in advance @2pm- no call no show. I call @245- everyone was clueless and I had to wait for a callback. They informed me I would have to pay overtime to get the service completed today, I said they should cover their overtime fees and make sure the job was completed today. Kessler plumbing is pretty close to our building. They can usually tend to our plumbing issues pretty fast (less than a week). However; I've never used them for an emergency, so can't speak for that type of call. We've used them for new installs in 2 units and one bathtub replacement. A few other maintenance type jobs over the past year and half. There rates are reasonable and everything is to code. What more can you ask for in a plumber? read more
