I was recommended this place when looking for a brush pole (a very small fishing pole) for my then soon to be born great nephew. The staff and owner are extremely friendly and I've visited a few times since because I love to fish. Though freshwater is more what I do since I've been fishing freshwater since I was a toddler. Being near the ocean this is mostly saltwater - which I'm still a huge newbie at. So I do feel overwhelmed looking at the saltwater gear while they're busy with other customers. But they never have made me feel bad for not knowing a lot about saltwater fishing. Which is awesome. Sometimes being a woman who fishes people tend to be a little - odd - with me. The owner has a very loving dog that I gather is named "Shop." Definitely a huge plus and makes me want to come back. They should have a sign with his photo on it reading "Shoplifters will be licked to death." Got to love a store with a dog. I'd come back just for him alone. It's small but deep. Still, I wish they were bigger and could move to The Grant Boy's old location so they could have more stuff, maybe some knot tying and other types of fishing classes so those of us trying to expand the type of fishing we do can learn without having to wait for things like The Fred Hall Show. I love shopping for fishing gear the way some women love shopping for shoes. So a bigger store I can browse more - HEAVEN! read more

The selection was very good. I enjoy being able to see what I'm buying especially when it comes to soft baits such as swim baits. It can be convenient buying online thru Amazon or other online retailers but you miss out on talking to guys that just enjoy fishing and know the area and are more than excited to provide tips to help you out. Alan was very helpful. He did not pressure me into buying anything and was very knowledgable about different applications for fishing saltwater and freshwater. I enjoyed being able to speak to him like a normal person about fishing and not someone who was trying to sell me on a brand or technique. He was also able to repair the rod tip of an old rod of mine fairly quickly as it was crushed after leaving it in my parents garage for a few years. Taking my 10 yo son to pick up a rod n reel set up. These guys r friendly and don't try n sell u wgat u don't need. Ill post my review after ee r done. Super excited! Later.....as expected, got a great price on a shimano setup, the guy hooked everything up for me so I could walk out and hit the pier. Jimmys has quickly become my favorite tackle shop. Looks small from the outside but it is very well organized and clean so they are able to carry everything the bigger guys are. Good selection of rods, reels, and tackle and can outfit you for anything from surf to bass to party/charter boats. I visit their shop fairly regularly to pick up more tackle as I'm on the sand fishing the surf 2-4 times per week and do other types of fishing throughout the year I've never experienced any issues with stock levels. Best of all is their staff is very knowledgeable and does a very good job of making me feel valued as a customer (something I find lacking in *many* businesses these day). read more

I am new to fishing, at least catching the fish. Instead of going to my usual big box stores, I decided to come and check this place out Couple of weeks ago. There are some reviews that are not very flattering but I I've learned that you can't please everyone.When I came, Aaron sold me a few items contrary to what I wanted to buy per YouTube recommendations. He sold me this yellow surface iron instead Of a light pistachio color. I went fishing the next day in La Jolla and boy did I catch some major fish with it. It included a fish that Brooke a 50 pound test monofilament line. I have also returned things to them. If I could give them six stars I would. They're knowledgeable, friendly and very pleasant to learn from, purchase from and conduct business with. I will be coming to this place over and over again and highly recommend it to others as well. read more

Prices match other specialty tackle stores and should be expected to be more then walmart, but they have a huge selection and wide variety of everything tackle and every color imaginable to choose from when it comes to swim baits and lures. read more

Our first visit the Ketcham Tackle. We experienced GREAT service. You don't get local knowledge, friendly one-on-one service and some basic fishing instruction by shopping online. With the closing of Glenn's tackle I was looking for a good small local store to give my business to. I've used angler center for some stuff but if you're not a professional bill fisherman dropping $500 at a time it feels like they are looking down their nose at you when you walk in. I found Jimmy's and is just what I was looking for. Small shop but has everything you need from trout to big game. Prices are always decent and they frequently have sales and clearances to make room for the newest gear. Tell them your budget and fishing plans and they'll set you up right the first time. No unnecessary, ridiculous upsells or fancy sales tactics to get you to spend more on products that you don't need. no pretentious "tournament fisherman only" or "private boaters only" atmosphere like other shops nearby. The staff at this shop, Rick, Alan, and Jason, genuinely want help anglers of all experience levels to get on the fish as well as have fun with them while they're in the shop. I found Jimmy's tackle shop because it's right next to my work and it makes it easy for me to get the gear that I need before a trip out. I've come in many times now, and I would consider myself a regular. There staff is always friendly and eager to assist if needed. I always talk to an older gentlemen, he's pretty funny. The gear that I get is anything from hammers for the harbor, lures and soft plastics for trout, and now that cat fishing season is right around the corner, i'll be coming in for some hooks. I was just there yesterday and saw they carried some pretty awesome fishing artwork and I decided to purchase two for the office. That way, when things get stressful in there, I can look at these pictures and "picture" myself somewhere else! Needed to buy earthworms for biology project. It was simple to buy them and store was easy to find.

Used to go to the anglers centers and grants for my fishing needs but I found a one stop shop with Jimmys. Whether I'm stopping in to grab some bighammer swimbaits for the bay or buying a new rod and reel setup for a trip, these guys have it all. Stopped by today after reading the great reviews. Had used Anglers Center down the street in the past but figured I would give this place a try. I went in looking for some trolling gear for an upcoming trip but was also interested in picking up a new two speed reel and and a rod to go with it. These guys were super friendly and super helpful. Answered all of my questions about trolling tackle and I then asked about what they would recommend for a new two speed. They showed me several even though I let them know I wasn't really planning on picking one up today and answered all of my questions. I was so impressed I pulled the trigger and picked up the one I wanted. They strung it up for me on the spot and didn't charge for the braid, mono top shot, or 30 yards of leader they threw in. Love small shops with GREAT customer service. Anglers Center is a little closer but prices are higher and can't match the personal attention. Not to mention they don't have a Shop Dog!
