Amazing service by Cheyenne! She was very fast with our order! Its a restuarant with a bar up front and all BBQ themed. The chicken was so juicy and not dry like 90 percent of BBQ places we have been! Hit up this place while on my way back to the office from a job. The smell of the smoker outside the building was a fantastic start. Going in, the dining room wasn't very crowded and everything was nice and clean. My server, Cheyenne, got me seated right away. I asked her for some suggestions and she steered me in the right direction. Food came out quickly! Sides were great, but the brisket sandwich I got would have been better with some of the bark left on the meat. I don't think I got any bark, unfortunately. Nice local bbq restaurant with good flavors and very good service. We were in the neighborhood visiting friends and stopped by in our way back. Glad we did. Stand alone restaurant in a road side mall area they have seating for prob around plus with a bar area with stools. Full bar and restaurant with a casual atmosphere. No pretenses here. We both got their brisket sandwich, hers with fried okra and green beans. Mine with tots and Cole slaw. We tried their various sauces but both landed on the spicy bbq sauce. First, for those who have read my reviews, my first impression of a restaurant is how many or how few cars are in the parking lot. I was very pleased to see that there were several cars in the parking lot, even though it was not yet supper time. To me, this is an excellent indication that the local folks view this as a very good place to eat. I concur with that assessment. My server was very friendly and attentive, and my food was brought out right away. The brisket was amazing! It was very moist and tender, and the bark was sweet and tasty, just the way I like it. The beans must have been a homemade recipe rather than out of a can. They were very good as well. The baked potato was cooked perfectly - not over or underdone. Visiting the area for the night and thought i would see who had the best BBQ based on google ratings. The person working take out was very friendly and helpful. I think I may have misunderstood what type of restaurant this is though. Being that I am not from the area I wanted BBQ which to me means meat grilled in an open pit until tender then sauce added. What I got was smoked meat with sauce on the side. The ribs were a dull reddish color and looked smoked. They were coated with some kind of paprika or chili powder (which to me did not help add flavor at all). Also the ribs had no grill marks at all which made me question how they were prepared. I was looking for BBQ/grilled meat, what I got was smoked ribs and smoked beef brisket.Both lacked flavor. I normally do not use the bbq sauce that comes with the order but I had to this time in order to help add some type of flavor. The green beans also tasted like they were from a can. The fried okra was the best part of the meal for me. Unfortunately I did not get a fork with my meal and had to eat everything with my fingers but I normally look before leaving any restaurant after ordering take out and forgot to this time. I don't think the place is bad it just did not meet my expectations of what BBQ ribs/brisket should taste like. I will say that one of the reasons I decided to try this restaurant is because they promote that they cook everything on the same day and may run out of some items due to this. We stopped here on a drive back to STL. First, the signs along the way were very helpful in getting there from I-55. So glad we stopped! The food was really good. Hamburger was great and tasted like something we'd make out on the grill. All of the sides were great. Even though we were full, we managed to split the biggest piece of coconut cream pie ever. I was in town for the races at I 55 Speedway and wanted something to eat that wasn't a chain. It was nice to go into a restaurant and sit down to a meal. Coming from Ohio, we don't have that luxury. I thought they did a fine job with the social distancing thing. As for the food, it was pretty good. I like to think of myself as a bbq connoisseur (at least in my own mind). The only complaint I could possibly have is, I would prefer to have the membrane on the ribs removed. Other than that, the dry rub was very good, and the sauce was good as well. I used to love Kettlehut, we've been going there ever since we moved to Jefferson County and found out about it a couple years ago. My husband and I met our children and grandchildren there just a couple months ago for a get-together and it was great!! The food always used to be excellent, I LOVE smoky BBQ, but what we got last night was such a disappointment. I ordered the pork steak and my husband ordered the ribs. The meat wasn't juicy OR smoky. I asked our waitress what happened and she said she would ask the owner. The owner came by and she was very rude and insisted that I was incorrect and instead of apologizing and asking if she could get me something else she turned to the other diners to get their opinion which was such outrageous behavior. I didn't dare tell her that my loaded potato was not edible, that it was obviously left over from lunch and not hot at all, but was afraid that she would slap me. The piece of white bread straight from a bag of bread was dried out and not from toasting either! It looked so inedible that I wasn't going to waste the vegetable oil margarine that they served with it. After we paid ($50, so NOT worth it, but tipped the waitress $11) we drove to the backside of the restaurant and found out what had changed. They USED to smoke their meat with a real wood fire but they had one of those electric pellet smokers on the patio which really makes the air smell smoky but not the meat. I understand that everything costs more these days but they should have just raised the menu prices a bit and not shortcut the quality of their food. So that is the end of my saga and we aren't going to go back, both because of the food AND the owner's intolerable attitude! Here's what I found on google about electric pellet smokers.....Are Pellets or Wood Chips Better for Smoking? NOTE: You CANNOT use wood chips in a pellet grill. Do not put wood chips in your pellet grill! If you've just made the leap from a traditional grill to smoker, you've got a whole new world of fuel to explore. Unlike standard grills, smokers create heat and flavor with the help of wood rather than charcoal or gas. Other fuel types simply don't do as good of a job at flavoring, and that's the stuff we love when we're aiming for that deep, rich, smoky flavor that makes barbecue barbecue. Food and service were very good, my issue has to do with handicap parking for wheelchair bound people. All but one space are on the opposite side of the wheelchair ramp and building entrance (those by the wheelchair ramp have been changed to call in pick up!!!) And there's no safe sidewalk for the wheelchair to travel on. They have to ride on the roadway. If daytime safety is a concern, I would hate for my father in law (a stroke victim) to try this out at night. Definitely NOT wheelchair friendly to me!
