Very Solid, not going to lie, the atmosphere is very hole in the wall, but the food and service are excellent. I got a three egg omelette with biscuit and hash browns, and it didn't disappoint. My waitress did have a horrible cough and I didn't like that as she served my food, but my immune system is tough . That was the only thing that made this review 3 stars, overall if I'm in the area again I will go because its very authentic southern style diner food and has been around since the 60s I believe. Old now well maintained building the looks like it closed is what I first noticed about Kettle Restaurant. I gave it a shot any way and was disappointed. The place was empty, no atmosphere music playing and just out dated. It felt like a restaurant in the 80s. The prices are fair and the food selection was vast. But the food was just ok. Not seasoned, bland and not at all interesting. The wait staff was very nice and did a great job providing customer service. I used to love this restaurant, but my experience changed after bringing my service dog with me one day. Although he wasn't wearing his vest that day -- we accidentally left it at home -- I explained when entering that he is a trained service dog. When we sit at restaurants with booths, he typically sits beside me so he can better assist with my disability. However, a staff member approached me and told me he needed to be on the floor. When I tried to explain, she simply said "okay" and walked away before I could finish speaking. I ultimately decided to leave because I felt unwelcome and embarrassed for having my service dog with me. read more

Came here for the first time with my wife and ordered the Good Morning weekday special (simple breakfast, but large portion) and the Dixie Deuces (another simple, but huge breakfast portion). Our bill came out to just under $19. Thats one of the cheapest breakfast that we've ever had. This bill would've been about $30-$35 back home in Hawaii. Our waitress is fast and very friendly. I had a great experience here several weeks ago! My husband picked me up from the hospital where I was visiting my father when we realized I hadn't eaten all day. We have wonderful memories of the Kettle when we used to live in the area, although it was normally the one in College Station. So when we passed by and saw an empty parking lot it seemed like the perfect place to decompress and get some food. The restaurant was empty, but this is probably pretty rare as it was a Wednesday night in January right before the students return. The gentleman at the front was greeting, serving and taking orders over the phone and there was one person in the kitchen. He had a wonderful personality, I wish I got his name. I think I heard him answer the phone saying his name was LeBron, but I was far enough away to not be positive I heard correctly. He was so very pleasant and knew when to check on us and when to give us space and was very informative. Considering he was doing almost everything, and I'm pretty sure somebody called in while we were there, I hope he gets a raise! It was a nice quiet place to get some good diner food and talk before getting back to taking care of things. We ordered off a daily special meu, which was smaller portions for smaller prices, but still plenty of food that we didn't clear both plates. I think that smaller menu, which wasn't in my pictures, was $9 and included a drink. The steak my husband got was small, but they definitely included plenty of fries. They had Heinz 57 instead of only A1, which is a plus in our book. The burger met my expectations for a diner burger and the tea was really tasty and refreshing. I know the chances of it being that quiet the next time we stop in are probably pretty slim, unless it's the summer or holidays, but it was a great visit and we will return- thank you Kettle! read more

I took my parents here for a summer Sunday brunch based on some decent Yelp intel. They are folks with simple tastes so this was perfect. Felicia was our server and was so attentive and friendly! Came here a few days ago while in town. I'm actually from the area, and have went to the kettlr before. However, my husband, an LSU alumni, had not. My favorite part of this place was that they had a lot of plain and simple breakfast options. I was a really disappointed though when the food came out though. Their giant pancakes are no bigger than ones you might get from a freezer. Then, their waffle batter was so crumbly! I had expected to get a lot more food than we did, and then, their drinks are $3.50. When your drink is just about 50% the cost of you food, something is wrong. Can't say we will be back. For the $30 this meal ended up costing my husband and I, I coukd have gotten more at cracker barrel! If you want us to shop local, give us a reason to do so. read more

This is based on my one time experience here. I would like to give this place a lot of credit because they actually got my steak cooked right! I ordered the Rancher which comes with a small sirloin steak, two eggs, hash browns, and pancakes or toast only for $11. I asked our kind server if I could substitute the pancake/toast for French toast and she told me she could get me one piece of French toast without extra cost! I ordered my steak rare like always and was expecting it to probably come out medium or well done as cheap diners like these are always either so scared to cook the steak rare for their customers or don't have skilled enough cooks who can cook the steaks right. Surprisingly my steak actually came out the way I wanted to! It had nice peppery seasoning on top that made it really good along with A1 sauce. My medium eggs, hash browns, and French toast all came out perfect and tasty as well. The portion was nice as it wasn't too much or too less of food. I left feeling perfectly satisfied and it was easy on the wallet. Definitely liked their steak breakfast more than the one at I hop. I came to The Kettle after my nephew Tristen's first communion. And I tell you, this establishment is the epitome of what fine dining should be. The ambiance is phenomenal. And while the stale cigarette smoke, lively young waitresses, and rustic decorum are incredible, what really makes this place is the hispanic man working miracles in the kitchen. The scrambled eggs were the best I have ever had, the biscuits and gravy nearly brought me to tears, and the hash browns finished the job. Been here a couple times now, and wanted to share my experiences. The food is ok/not bad, and the price is reasonable, the manager was friendly, the waitresses are cute, friendly, and do a thorough job, place is clean, and the food is ok/not bad. It gets the job done and with no regrets. It's a coffee shop that serves average-good breakfast food. Some advice to the owner, from an expert breakfast home cook since 1974, add some life to them scrambled eggs and to the omelettes. Use an omelette pan and add a splash of milk to the batter. The coffee, well there's not much excitement, but it's hot and fresh. I guess I expect more from a coffee shop that's just a couple minutes from one of the largest universities in the state of Texas. If I owned it, I'd be opened 24hours, have coffee that kept up with the trend of today's college students, had super tasty fluffy eggs and omelettes, always have homemade stew, chili, and chicken soup for homesick students feeling run down, plus a varey of other tasty items. We dine out more than we should, and we have gone here on several occasions when wanting one of the late breakfast or dinner "breakfast" meals, usually Saturday and Sunday mornings. It is always good food, large portions and they have very nice employees. Have never had a bad meal, always have to to get to-go box simply because of the large portions. I'd compare this Kettle to both the IHOP and Cracker Barrel in Bryan! EXCEPT the portions are larger and staff are much nicer. Will be back!! read more

My son ordered an omelette and it came with a choice of grits or hashbrowns and toast or pancakes. The amount of food was huge! I had a side of ham with hashbrowns and gravy on top. The food was absolutely wonderful and even though the cost on the menu almost made me walk out, I'm so glad I didn't. The amount of food you get is well worth the money. Seriously...wonderful food. Our server as excellent and never allowed for our coffee cups to lack of fresh brew. The only reason for four stars was the restroom. Besides being the smallest restroom ever, the lack of handicapped facilities was disturbing plus the restrooms are in serious disrepair. We will be back though :-) read more

Y'all. Do not go to this boo boo garbage restaurant. I called to ask if they were busy and was talked to rudely on the phone. Hoped for the best and went into the restaurant just to be not greeted and overlooked. We get our table and honestly got the worst server I've ever had. I work in a restaurant so I'm very understanding but wow y'all. She threw straws at us and asked one of friends 'who's gonna shoot her' when my girl friend asked simple questions. She was very short with us. Y'all this coffee was boo boo like they just put food coloring in dirty water. Took forever to get food and service, food wasn't great and was cold. After our waitress took our order we let her know that the cokes were flat and that we would like Dr Peppers instead. This place is open 24 hours and is awesome! The food is good and portions are big. Also, the restaurant has great atmosphere. Whenever I go the waitresses are helpful and provide great service. One of them even offered to go outside to take a picture of my friends and I in front of the restaurant. Also, I really like the view from the windows here.
