I'd give it a solid 3.5 since they ARE open 24/7 and very close to the subway station. If you're heading home and need something late at night, it's very convenient to come in here. It's also the only grocery store I've seen in NYC, much less NY state, to have any type of Cheerwine on the shelves. If you go near the front where glass bottles of soda are located, you might just find Cheerwine Zero here like I have. I'd look for the sales since it's not that cheap here price wise and the store itself is tiny so selection can be a bit limited and it's not the most intuitive layout. I find it inconvenient that they have water and other items where the end of the checkout lines are so you can't meaningfully get that stuff unless you cut the line to go through an empty register to get it. I'm sure this has prompted more than one incident where a customer was accused of attempted shoplifting just for getting some soda or water they wanted to buy and didn't want to make a second trip for. The line can also get long and winding around here which I bet makes this issue worse. It's definitely convenient and not a bad option if you have EBT food money but if you don't, I wouldn't recommend doing all your weekly shopping here if you have the option to get better deals or more selection elsewhere. read more

I started coming here a few years ago. It was always a nice experience with the exception of tonight. I wasn't aware the deli closes at 10 and I got there at 10:30 and asked for a manager to see if I can get something. This guy comes up and stands behind the deli. I ask him if I could have meat from the deli. He is rude and tells me its closed. I know this, and I asked to speak to the manager and he tells me he is the manager. I tell him that I have never seen him before and he replies with an attitude of "that's your problem, not mine" and walked away. He shouldn't be a manager. (#1) Located just outside of the 46th Street stop, it has plenty of shine along Queens Blvd and is situated right next to the infamous Sunnyside arch. And to top it all off, they have a dedicated flower shop side, they operate 24/7 and happen to be right next to a bank. Not bad for a chain grocery store. That's about all I have for the positives, it's sort of a downward slope from there. For starters, the customer service has always been lackluster. Their staff isn't very helpful with helping folks find things, and are usually a little too curt at the register. I almost get the impression that most of the staff would rather be anywhere but the store. Then there are the prices. It's not that they are extremely expensive but most of what they offer can be found cheaper at most stores in the area. In comparison to a neighboring supermarket in Met Food, Key Food is also an open-24-hours one-stop shop that has a lot more to offer in terms of baked goods, fresh produce, organic foods, and just about everything else. Let's not forget to mention that Key Food is well-organized and is very clean. It is also surprisingly well-staffed with most (if not all) check-out aisles having a cashier on hand. Prices for most items are not unreasonable compared to most grocery stores in Sunnyside. New specials and deals start every Friday, and you can pick up a circular at the entrance that covers all the deals for the week. As always for the last 18 years, this morning I bought groceries from their 4602 Qns Blvd store but the Organic Valley milk that had an Expiry date as May 6, 2020 turned out to have gone bad or spoiled which I found out while boiling a small cup when reaching home. Since it smelled strong stale smell, I went to return the same morning immediately but Abdul, the manager would not give me credit for it, that was ~ $12.50. Explained but he wouldn't listen, walks away and shouted insults which was very horrifying. He asked me to leave the store without the milk and receipt for which I took photographs attached herewith and requested if he would still consider refunding me and he said "not at all". He has no manners and is uneducated or poorly educated running the store with no motive to listen and comprehend. This place is ridiculously expensive anyway but convenient hence the customers are always taken for granted for many years. I have seen incidents in the past but people at cash register are very friendly and helpful. He asked me to leave and there were two people pushing me to get out, despite my requests not to touch me and stay 6 feet away. Then I had to leave without milk, receipt or a refund. So I lost money, trust and respect for this franchise, sadly forever. I wish I could talk to someone else like a franchise owner who would listen hence he would not let me. Beware, they don't treat you as a customer and won't listen to you if you have any problems! This rude manager on the photo who tried to assault me and said he would kick my ass if it was outside the grocery store, for asking for refund for the stale milk returned within hours but keeps it and my receipt with no apology! This place is literally right off 46 Street stop from the 7 line and it can get ridiculously busy because of their location. The supermarket itself is clean and neat but I have to say that the way they set up their aisles can be a bit awkward. When you first walk in you are right in their produces department and the maze starts here. They do have a great inventory a lot of options but its not cheap but very convenient for where they are located. They have a cheese section, bakery (love fresh baked rolls), fresh cooked Korean food fresh sushi, plus more. They are open 24 which works out perfectly for the people who get out of work late. Covid note: it is great that this store is still open 24 hours. It helps with staggering traffic. However, some employees and customers were not wearing masks (4/27) and this should be required and enforced no matter what time of day. This should be required for admittance and people should be reminded to keep on during their shopping experience. Just bought $50 worth of groceries. Selection of food is decent. I was in the check in line for less than 5 minutes and 2 rude employees walked through my line, didn't say excuse me and almost knocked me over. Great thing is it's open 24 hours but PLEASE train your staff on how to be decent people, especially since you work in customer service. There are times where I wish I never lived in Woodside because of 2 AM convenient grocery runs like this. This particular Fresh 'n Save--though it'll always be Key Food/Food Dynasty to me--has had a complete 180 of being outdated and gritty, to looking like another Manhattan organic market. Heck, the Skillman Ave. location was even much better at one point and that's saying a lot. I can't say I'm not impressed because the atmosphere is welcoming and has nailed that authentic market feel I've been searching for. Some of the pros of this place is its convenient location right across the subway station or right off the bus stop. It's also opened 24/7 so you do your thing while everyone is asleep (hey Jackie!), or grab your hangover/sleepwalking food. Oh, and they also have SELF-CHECKOUTS. Not that I have anything against the staff here because most of them are nice, but I'd really like to bag my own stuff and use my coupons. If you shop at the other 2 locations like I do, make sure you know your sales and prices because this one tends to distinguish itself from the others and prices may be a little higher sometimes. With the renovation, this particular location has really set the standards so high, it blows the other locations out of the water. I really like this supermarket! I think it's trying to be a working class neighborhood's version of Whole Foods, and it succeeds in some areas but fails in others. It's very clean and bright and the location is great - very conveniently located right off the 7 train. The best parts of the store are: quality produce, great seafood selection, excellent sushi, SO MUCH MEAT, and a well curated cheese section. In these areas, they are probably heads and shoulders the best in the neighborhood. Worst parts of the store: price of the produce is too high for certain things, bad foot traffic design/gets crowded easily, gross hot prepared foods, lackluster baked goods (they started bringing in Amy's breads but they look kind of old and sorry). In the areas where it counts, this store is doing a good job. If it improved some other areas it could be really great. read more

I grew up on the Key Food on Avenue A in my old neighborhood, so I'm gonna call this Key Food too since that's what they are, even though it seems they're called Fresh N'Save throughout Western Queens. I like the asymmetrical maze of aisles in this location. It's a fun adventure for a neighborhood newbie like me on my relaxed Sunday shopping days. But, yes, the aisles are a bit of nightmare if it's crowded. And the aisles' overhead signs don't make much sense, that is, the items don't feel to be dispersed intuitively. But moreover, I like that my new hipster food favorites are consistently on sale as opposed to other locations around. They have Peanut Butter & Co. peanut butter 2 for $7, which is $1.50+ cheaper than everywhere else. And they had the pumpkin flavor Chobani flips 3 for $4 me thinks, so I helped them unload their inventory with that one. Today, they had Chobani flips 4 for $5 now (whoa!), but sadly my limited edition pumpkin favorite is gone. All in all, they have everything I need, and are bigger than the Key Food on A that I'm used to, so this spot's a grocery shopping win in my books! read more

Since my arrival around the neighborhood, this store has been my fav for buying food and grocery. The staff especially the female are nice and well mannered . Awesome female staffs and awesome manager. But today the cashier (Jackson) whom I just saw today had no manner at all.Almost zero discipline. I'm always trying to respect the people in every aspects but this guy just pissed up with his racist, greeting. I've never written a negative review on yelp and take seriously how much negative reviews can impact a business, but this store absolutely needs to evolve and serve the community. What drove me over the top was what I saw in the organic section today, 12.49 for a single bag of apples, this is laughably overpriced. The wall of greens vegetable section is a mess with no prices or prices mixed all over, organic and non-organic mixed together. The eggs section is a mess with nothing priced or prices disorganized and different brands piled all over the place, not in alphabetical order, etc. You have to stand there for 10 minutes to figure out which eggs have the best price. The only reason this store is still in business is the location but I hope more people start to support the other businesses opening in the area. Overpriced, poorly managed, incorrect prices. Fortunately the clock is ticking for this business now, there is a trader joe's in LIC and more businesses filling the gap. I often grab something from the deli here as it's so convenient from the subway. You get off the subway and this place is there already. Great selection of stuff to choose from and they rotate everyday. I can't comment on the prices as I don't have a reference point. It's cheaper than Whole Foods (but doesn't have the same selection of gourmet/organic stuff). Overall, it's a decent place for groceries if you're in the area. read more

He happens to be a mid 30 latin dude, and he was carrying an eco-sac and looking for rice noodles. He didn't find them there, and was by the back door (on queens blvd) and figured he'd exit and though that was the door. Security approached him, and directed him to exit on the 46th street side, and then proceeded to follow him. My bf asked if there was a problem, as the security douche was now following him and eying him like a hawk. Security douche asks to see his receipt... my bf says, do you really think I am stealing? He shows it to him, and the dude proceeds to get management. Why? Not because anything was taken, but because he felt he could bc he was Latin. He then asks to see the receipt again, just because. It's been over 6 years since he was questioned because of how he looks. It is now 2012, and we have been in the neighborhood for a while, and this is the first time that something like this has happened here. We didn't expect it in Sunnyside, and not from our local market. It's just f*cked up. Find another market, there are better ones.. walk to the one on 44th and Greenpoint, or the one on 44th St and 43rd ave (now the prices here are good, with many more organic and fresh options). I would give this store a 3.5 if I could but but giving it a 5 to cancel the bad karma of some other reviewers. What I usually buy there and find ok are vegetables, fruits and nuts. There is an Asian store across the street with cheaper and sweeter fruits and some vegetables you may not find or don't want to buy large quantities of. I cook for one (or two at most) so I don't need a family size bunch of cilantro for example. The only meat I usually pick up here is their chicken in the organic meats (pretty good). Their oxtails are good too. For any other meat (lamb, beef etc) I either try the farmer's market or Butcher's Block. They have a good selection of cheeses and eggs (free range, organic, and all other whatevers). They often have Eight O' Clock coffee on sale (and I like that). I never need their help finding things, but occasionally when I do, they help. The managers and workers seem to do a decent job and do say hi back when you greet them. One of the older managers (he has been there for ever) always says hi to me if he is around. The problems in the store are problems of Capitalism in general. They are never gonna be a mom and pop lovey dovey neighborhood joint; in fact no large grocery store anywhere in a big city is ever like that. If you want banter and conversation while you pick groceries you're better off living in Calabria in Italy and shopping at the local markets. Come to think of it, actually some of the people at the farmer's market in Sunnyside are friendly and chatty for those of you who need that to go along with the produce you're buying. read more

Two entrances, you either walk into the bread aisle or the fruit/veggie section (where you will find a variety of organic items and eventually into a small seafood booth with fresh looking seafood. Exciting so far. The atmosphere is not like your average market. It feels fresher, maybe hence the name. Save but other things are more expensive. It's stocked right, medium in space capacity. Precooked foods in the Deli, including sushi/pastas/grains/veggies... All other grocery items are majority stocked. I like they stock non-hormone, non-additive hotdogs. I like they have organic ginger. I like they have extra dark grapes that cost $6 a bag. I like they stock a variety of ice creams. But then I seen other markets do the same or better, so your good 'o average market but nice! Though I didn't see a butcher section yet they do have fresh/red meats though need a better selection. Some items are extremely expensive, some items that are allegedly on sale do not ring up as on sale at the register, and some items are not labeled with prices. I shop here when one of the following situations occur... - I need a niche item (i.e., grass-fed milk and eggs, or something like kohlrabi or endive, this store's size enables them to carry a bigger selection than a lot of other stores in the area) - It's late at night, and I need something that I probably could have gotten at another store had I planned ahead, but now that store is closed, so I have to come here (this store is open 24 hours a day) However, I avoid coming here because it's really overpriced. A half-gallon of a particular brand of grass-fed milk costs over $7 here - the same product at Whole Foods costs $5. Cans of coconut milk typically cost between $3.50-$5 here. The produce area is maddening, as well. I understand that it's *not* a Whole Foods, but some of the markups are truly eyebrow-raising. Some alternatives: for produce, I recommend going to Greenpoint Farm. For meat, I recommend Las Americas down the street. For seasonal produce, check out Sunnyside's weekly Greenmarket. For fish... well, I honestly still haven't found a place in Sunnyside for fresh fish, but that's a classic conundrum one will have anywhere in NYC. read more

I come here quite often as I live right around the corner from this convenient 24-hour supermarket; however, most of the grocery products at this supermarket are over-priced by about $.50 to $1.00 and I know this for a fact -- I also shop at the Associated Supermarket 2 blocks away from this supermarket as well as Rite Aid, which is located across the street and they tend to have better prices. Aside from the fact that this supermarket overprices their grocery products, I would like to note that the cashiers aren't particularly friendly.
