We randomly picked this place, mainly cause of the name and the cute exterior. Really pleasant environment and the decor reminds me of a cute boutique hotel in Tulum. And inside there were a lot of locals eating there - which is usually a good thing! First, the service is great. The staff and owner are very welcoming, friendly and helpful with any questions you have about navigating through the area. Second, the drinks!! Omg, the best drink names and so tasty! Third, the food - portions are a perfect size and delicious. Also, their key lime pie was AMAZING. Wasn't expecting that, but it was a bonus! We live in Key West and were delighted to see something finally opening in the old Salty Angler location, so we stopped in for a drink. A man with parrots (you've seen him on Duval Street) was luring people in from the street by telling them it was happy hour. Parrots and booze, what's not to like? It turns out that our two tiny (~5 oz), rail, weak, "happy hour" drinks were over $20 before the tip. What a great surprise! 3 days open and this place is awesome! We were lured in by a gentleman and the promotion of free mimosas. The place was kind of empty when we got there, but quickly filled up. The guy was hustling as bartender and waiter at the same time. We were unsure of what was going to come out of the kitchen, but we were pleasantly surprised! We had a variety of meals from the menu and EVERYONE enjoyed them. My husband and I had the shrimp tacos and my friends had the Cuban sandwich, Mahi Mahi, chicken salad and we ALL had rave reviews. We walked in after quickly scanning minimal available reviews. No one else was there. So glad we stopped. Our waiter let us know they'd been open for 5 days. Limited menu at this time but we were only looking for apps. KeyLum Jarrito and Fresh Marg cocktails were both delicious and prepared with fresh ingredients. If you are, like we were, debating between going here and The Rum Bar, run to the rum bar as quickly as possible. I really wanted to like this place because the vibe seemed nice and the waitstaff were very sweet. We went here for happy hour at 4pm on a Friday and ordered a margarita and Paloma off the cocktail menu, plus tostones. The cocktails were hands down the worst versions of these drinks we've had and just tasted like straight up water. The tostones never came out. Our very nice sever left while we were there, but the lack of attention we received was confusing because it was just us and one other party in there (first red flag)- the bartender sat behind the counter and looked at his phone the whole time. I eventually went up to the bar to pay and he first tried to charge me for another party's tab ($46 for two drinks), then tried to charge us regular menu prices, blaming our departed sever for not invalidating the happy hour menu which was advertised in many places outside and inside the restaurant. I would much rather throw money at a bartender for a great experience, but I had to haggle our bartender down to the items we actually ordered. We went across the street to the rum bar to cleanse our palette after and wished we went here right away, instead of marring an otherwise perfect day in key west at this regrettable place. read more
