This is going to be a fairly long review, but I want to provide the full details of why I absolutely do not recommend this business.
I called Keyz salon roughly 1 week prior to my friends' wedding to ask if they had anyone available to do hair. We only wanted our hair to be down and curly, so the plan was to just do it ourselves. At the last moment we decided to call around and see if anyone happened to be available just for fun. We did not really need a stylist. I called around 6 places and Keyz was one of 3 that were willing to work with us. I include this detail to emphasize that we had options. I choose to work with Keyz because their pricing was roughly equivalent to other places (although it was the most expensive at $75 per person) and it was located very conveniently near the bride (good for the practice session).
During my first phone call I discussed pricing with whomever it was that answered the phone. I do not remember this persons' name, but it definitely was not the owner (she has a very distinct voice and demeanor ). I had 3 other people in the room with me who can confirm the information I was given during this phone call. I was told the pricing estimate to do hair for the wedding would be $75 per person with a $100 deposit. No travel fee and no fee for the practice session. I asked what the deposit covered and was told it was money used to confirm we planned on using them and that it would go towards covering the total cost of the hair. I repeated this information to the person on the phone and she confirmed. Thus I had double confirmation on pricing already.
On the day of the practice session I re-confirmed the payment plan with the stylist, mentioning the $100 deposit going toward covering cost of the hair. She confirmed that everything I said was correct. I had the bride with me as witness.
On the day of the wedding everything seemed to be going okay until I went to pay the stylist for my hair. I gave her the $75 plus tip for me, and told her that she could count the $100 deposit as the cost of the brides' hair plus tip (what I considered to be a generous $25 tip). The stylist seemed very confused, and I had to explain that I was referring to the $100 deposit that I had already paid. She then stopped half way through doing a bridesmaids hair to call her boss. All of the bridesmaids could hear the owner almost yelling after the stylist told her what I had said.
As soon as the stylist handed me the phone the owner of the salon began speaking to me very rudely in raised tones. I remained polite throughout the entire conversation because I did not want to cause any distress for the bride. The owner told me the $100 deposit did not cover hair, and accused me of making it up that I had been told otherwise. I told the owner that I understood that maybe that was her usual deal, but that I had confirmed 3 times with her employees what my payment plan was and that was not what I had agreed to. She told me the $100 covered the cost of the stylist packing up her stuff and coming to our venue. I mentioned that that sounded like a travel fee and she re-confirmed that they did not charge a travel fee. She then said that $100 covered the cost of supplies. I let this slide even though, as I said, we wore our hair down and curly; so the only supplies were some hairspray and less than 10 bobby pins. She repeated multiple times that I they were doing me a favor by doing hair for the wedding because we asked at such late notice. I did not desire to upset her more, so I did not say this at the time, but this is obviously not the way to speak to your clients. It is clear doing this wedding was a benefit to her business. There is no way she would have profited more from a normal salon day. She was very rude and sarcastic throughout our entire conversation. She interrupted me often, and eventually demanded I return the phone to the stylist while I was mid-sentence. She then proceeded to yell at the stylist more, forcing the stylist to leave the room so we could not continue to hear her boss act so unprofessionally. When the stylist finally returned she was clearly holding back tears. I told her I would pay her the money because I did not want to continue the drama any more on the wedding day of my friend.
This situation was clearly a miscommunication between owner and employees. I have worked in customer service myself and I am very understanding of these types of situations. I would have been upset regardless, because I had an agreement with this business that was not honored. However, the reason I will absolutely recommend nobody ever uses this business is because of the completely unprofessional woman who is running the place. The way she treated me and her stylist was absolutely unacceptable, and she does not deserve to profit while she continues to treat people this way.
At the very least if you do hire this salon for an event make sure to get your agreement in writing, because this owner absolute read more
