Malaysia is much more of an ethnic melting pot than the USA. I would the USA is more like a layer cake, if you get the social stratification metaphor. Malaysia on the other hand has a number of different ethnic groups that have influenced each other in the overlapping spheres of cuisine, art, literature. and music. I've been to Kuala Lumpur, but the complex mix of subcultures keeps me from being able to make an Anthony Bourdain or Uncle Roger Nigel Ng sort of assessment of authenticity (authentic here used in the sense of conforming to the original, accurate; as opposed to the other meanings of being sincere, true to oneself, being unpretentious, or a musical cadence progressing from the dominant chord to the tonic). I've spent some time in Tamil Nadu, and Tamil areas of Sri Lanka, but Malaysian Tamil cuisine is its own thing, and that's what they cook up here. Nothing like it for many miles around. This place is absolutely unique (well around here), delicious, friendly and inviting, and easy on the wallet as well. Even if you overeat like I do. My running favorite so far is the Nasi Goreng Pattaya, something I never heard of in Tamil Nadu, Tamil Eelam, or Tamil Mississauga. It's an egg-rice omelet, a kind of cousin to the Omurice omelet of Japan or Korea, maybe a second cousin. Absolutely delicious. So is the "teh- o") which is a sweet iced lemon tea. I am begging you Farang customers please don't kill this place by confounding them with Grubhub. They have NO CONTROL over the third party delivery companies. Just call them on their telephone for a pick up order, or better yet come in person and dine in. Also don't expect the sort of obsequious (pretentious yet butt kissing) wait service found in too many mainstream non-Asian American restaurants, this place is Malaysian-Tamil. The service is nice, and they do want you to be comfortable and enjoy their food. They are proud of who they are, they are proud of their food, and they practically beamed when they saw me thoroughly enjoy their food. I overheard the workers here speaking in at least three different languages. Tamils generally don't say, "thank you," the closest phrase they have is, "Nanri," which is for more serious situations like being rescued from pirates in the Straits of Malacca. They will appreciate a warm "Vanakkam," (hello with respect) on your way in though. The food is Halal so As-salamu alaikum, or just Salaam is appropriate, and really what's wrong with wishing Peace to others in the world we share? The food here makes me feel at peace. Also, uncomfortably too full.

Came here for dinner with a large group not too long ago. A homey, cozy atmosphere. Service was…read morequick even with our large group. I ordered the roti filled with chicken, onion, and egg, and it was tasty. I could see the roti being cooked in the kitchen area which was visible and that was fun to watch. The dish was delicious and it was plentiful so I could save enough for lunch the next day. A couple of folks felt their food was on the spicy side, so if you need a milder version, make sure to tell them. For the stuffed roti I ate, I felt the spice level was just perfect - not too much but not nonexistent, either. The menu is vast and there is so much to try, including dosas, all kinds of rotis, noodles, soups, and more.

Where has this dosa been all my life? Having read a recent article about this restaurant, BF and I…read morewanted to come try it. I was concerned about the availability of vegetarian options, but there are a few options and they are accommodating. The space is fairly basic, but it has what you need. There are several tables available. They have a TV playing Bollywood-style videos. Parking is on the street. I saw a counter where it said you should order and pick up, but we had our order taken at the table and our food was brought to us. Everyone who worked there was very nice, but they did not speak a great deal of English. I ordered a cheese and butter non-traditional dosa, but I received a veggie dosa. I was not mad about it at all. The dosa was amazing - crispy and light and perfect and stuffed with veggies that were somehow still crunchy, but infused with great flavor, as if they'd been cooked for hours. The dosas come with a dal type of sauce, something quite hot and another cold sauce we couldn't identify, but it was good. BF had a masala dosa and it was divine as well. Great potato filling, amazing flavor and the same sauces and superb dosa texture and flavor. Not understanding the generous size of the dosa, I'd ordered a veggie fried rice as well. I just barely tried it since I was stuffed, but it was excellent as well. Fresh flavor, which was complex, despite the veggies remaining al dente, with a short grain rice that I haven't identified. The dish does have eggs, which the cook/server/owner cleared with me when I ordered. I look forward to having this food again and again, but I'll be hard pressed to order anything other than the dosa. It's all about the food.

Got lunch for takeout from this strip mall Chinese place in Mundelein. It doesn't look like much,…read morebut it still beat expectations though. New China Chef has all the usual stuff, from beef to tofu and whatever. Big portions help make things a good value for what you get. The prices aren't bad especially on lunch specials. Came in and placed an order to go. It's a pretty cramped place, but there's enough room for a few tables for those eating inside. The atmosphere is pretty lame. About the worst thing that can be said about it. There's two humongous menus on the walls. It's about $12 for the regular size entrees. They also have lunch specials. Has vegetarian choices. I got the Kung Pao Tofu. Good spice to it. The tofu was firm, and there was a good variety of vegetables including broccoli, corn, and more. For lunch it's pretty good. It's pretty fast to get most orders. There's a variety of proteins including tofu for vegetarians.

We truly had a feast for two :-) This was our first time and were a bit hesitant because I always like to eat at restaurants that are 4 stars and above. The food was really good and I would come back. I am writing this review so they can continue to climb up the star rating because it's deserved.
