    Beef pad see ew
    Greg B.

I knew my night would be crazy, so I placed a to go order to make sure I got in dinner early. My order consisted of beef pad see ew and pork egg rolls. The pork egg rolls were fantastic. Really good size, fresh ingredients, and amazing flavor. I would order these again in a heartbeat. The pad see ew is ok. I didn't think there was enough egg in it, I wasn't overly fond of the white onion, and both the broccoli and carrot seemed like they were added afterwards and not cooked in the sauce with the noodles and beef because they were harder than expected and didn't absorb any of the flavor of the sauce. Certainly not my favorite pad see ew in the area, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting it again.

    Vegetable Pho - small

Came here for dinner to eat some of this amazing pho I've heard so much about. Upon entering it's your standard Vietnamese restaurant - small and quaint; you feel super at home. Upon seating, my friends and I waited a bit to be acknowledged and served. Apparently it was a busy period with online orders. Once served, we were given menus and waters and the waitress was super sweet and fun. We instantly put in our order and it was another 15 minutes before receiving our dishes. The broth of the pho was quite amazing for it to be vegetable base. They have the additional add-ons on the table so you don't have to ask for a single thing. The beef larb was quite tasty as well. Favorable juicy and tender along with the sticky rice was a great pair. The egg rolls were tasty and nice in size. Reminded me of a fried spring roll to be honest. Nothing special or too different than a spring roll but they're super cheap and you get three per serving. I'd be super inclined to return to this establishment and recommend it to others!

My favorite place to get takeout pho. I actually have dreams about it, it's so good. It's super simple but the ingredients are always fresh and the broth is steaming hot. We love their shrimp fried rice too. Can't go ring with this one! I would definitely recommend getting something with bamboo shoots in it too!

I was wanting some Pho and my go to place is closed until next month at least so I thought I would hit up a long time bookmark, yes they were open. It's take out only and it looked like they had some orders lined up at lunch time. I called in a Sm beef Pho and an order of spring/fresh roll which was ready in 15 minutes. The spring/fresh rolls were pretty good with fresh/crisp veggies and a great appetizer for sure to get. It has bbq pork, shrimp, cucumber, lettuce, cilantro and bean sprouts with a hoisin plum sauce with crushed nuts. The Sm beef Pho has meatballs and thin sliced cooked beef along with all the standard Pho fixings. The Pho broth was in between average to good I thought because it lacked a depth of rich flavor compared to other Pho broths that I have had in the past. That being said with paste and hot oil added and completely assembled it was good but the two jalapeño slices were not enough for a person who likes spicy food. Overall I would definitely go back and try some more of the menu after looking over the yelp photos.

Bamboo, located off of 35th and National is a tiny little restaurant. They have 6 tables of 4, so i wouldn't recommend it for big groups. The menu is smaller than most Thai places, which is totally manageable for their size. The husband and I for their Chicken Pad Thai, Raw beef laab and potstickers. The padthai was sweeter than most we've had before but it was still pretty good. The raw beef laab was amazing. The season was on point and laab can be quite hard to perfect. We had a level one spice and it was quite spicy so if you're not a pepper eater, i recommend zero pepper. (You can order cooked as well) However, the potstickers were not homemade which was a bit disappointing, but still good. Only downfall is the location. It's all street parking and with the neighborhood, street parking can be extremely limited. If you're looking for raw laab which is hard to find around the Milwaukee area, i would recommend Bamboo. We are looking forward to our next visit to try other dishes.

Esaan sausages were so juicy and delicious! They are made with meat, rice spices and garlicky goodness. I never tried Thai style sausages before, so they were a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed them thoroughly. Papaya salad is made with green papaya spiralized like noodles, a few tomato pieces, lettuce and a delicious sauce. It was satiating.

Came here in search of some decent pho in milwaukee. Didn't get what I was looking for but I did have an excellent meal. This place is located on 34 and national. About six fourtops make up the small dining room. We arrived at 530 and sat down immediately. By 6 the dinning room was full. The teenage waitress seemed a little flustered but did a nice job of keeping here composure with a full dining room. We ordered Crab Rangoon, yellow curried fried rice, vege pho, Tom yum, and Tom kha. The Tom yum and kha we awesome. Very flavorful with nice chunks of freshly made chicken. Crab Rangoon was average along with the pho. Just not a lot going on with those dishes. Curry fried rice was excellent. Tons of flavor and nicely portioned. Even though I wasn't a fan of the pho I will definitely return to this place based on the freshness and attention to detail on the dishes we did enjoy.

    Egg Rolls

Improved Pho broth. Last night they were out of beef, so they very politely asked if pork or BBQ pork would be ok to replace it, and of course I said yes. I chose the regular pork and I thought it worked well in the beef based broth with the beef meatballs. Seafood pho is another pho option on their menu, and pho normally comes in two sizes, small and large. The $5 PHObruary special is the small size, which is plenty, especially if ordering an appetizer. The egg rolls were good, too.

The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon, so the greeter gave us some menus and let us know we could order and he'd find a table for us ASAP. We got to the counter and the cashier told us it would be a 45 minute wait. We accepted this and ordered anyway. We picked a curry, a noodle dish, and a Thai beer each. The cashier was very friendly. The original greeter found us a table almost immediately after we paid and mentioned the beer is especially nice over ice, so we took his recommendation. Beers came quickly, but food did take at least a half hour, as the cashier mentioned. Table and dining room were clean and nicely decorated with warm lighting and relaxing music. Bathrooms were also clean. Food was very good and flavorful. The portions were decent. We were full, ate most of our dishes, and didn't take anything home. The original greeter came back and checked on us while we were eating. Service was fantastic throughout the experience. The food was pricey, but aligns with other Thai restaurant prices in the area. Dishes were around $20. The whole experience was worth it. We will be returning!

From the outside, the place looked lively and entertaining, largely because there was an active cornhole tournament happening. I can honestly say I've never seen that many self-proclaimed cornhole enthusiasts gathered in one place before, so it definitely had a unique atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food experience was inconsistent at best. The cucumber salad was completely inedible. The sausage entrée had multiple hard bits throughout that felt like biting into popcorn kernels, which made it difficult to enjoy. The rice served on the side was noticeably dried out and tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while. To top things off, the restaurant automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill. If you're heavily into cornhole tournaments and the social scene that comes with them, this may be your kind of place. But luckily my husband quickly checked well before we were served and saw there were reservations available online, so he booked us one on the spot. We were then given two excuses, one by the bartender and a different one by the host as to why they couldn't honor the reservation: (1) there were no tables available for us (note the place was half empty, but we supposed maybe there were lots of reservations coming later--nope, the place was still half full by the time we left); (2) we had to make the reservations 30-40 minutes in advance and we didn't do that so even though we did have a reservation, they couldn't honor it because we made it too soon to the reservation time (WOW--complete BS). We were peeved but decided we should just enjoy our dinner. BUT as we were finishing up, about 5 couples came in WITHOUT a reservation and both the host and the bartender gave each couple the option to either sit at the bar or at a table. When I confronted the bartender about it, she claimed "they weren't supposed to do that." WHAT?! She literally just offered a couple a table without a reservation. What do you mean?! It was insulting. Anyway, we will absolutely NEVER come back here. The tip we left was solely for the kitchen staff who were hard at work and doing an honest job. Bartender and hosts are discriminatory and awful. Do NOT recommend if you are looking to be treated with respect. Would give zero stars if that were an option.

I completely agree that this isn't authentic chinese food, but approachable fusion that tries to keep it truthful to the flavors and presentation. The highlight of the meal was the peking duck, which they only have about 2 orders of a night. We snagged it immediately when we sat down and it can easily feed 4 people with the sides. The duck was juicy and cut into thick pieces, so it was more of a steak rather than a bao style that I am used to. Nevertheless, it was delicious and even warmed up well the next day. The green onion wraps were...strange in my opinion. They fell apart easily and didn't have the best flavor that complemented the duck. Overall, I would come back for the duck itself, but everything else was average or extra salty. Service was great and the staff are very attentive. Happy eating!

The vibe: It was packed at 7:15 PM on a Sunday, and they held firmly to our reservation time--which is understandable given the crowd. We took a nice stroll while waiting, so no harm done. Once seated, the service was excellent--attentive, prompt, and professional. The food: This is clearly high-end Americanized Chinese food, not authentic regional cuisine. If you go in expecting that, you'll have a better experience. The menu reads like a "greatest hits" collection--familiar dishes done with nicer ingredients and presentation. What worked well: Smashed Cucumber - A strong start. The cilantro and bean sprouts were exceptionally fresh, and the peanut finish added nice depth, though the sauce leaned a bit salty for my taste. Service and atmosphere - polished and efficient. What fell short for me: Wonton Soup - The wrappers were thicker than I prefer; I like a more delicate, translucent skin. The leek-based broth was pleasant, though. Salt & Pepper Cod - The seasoning was good, but the cod pieces were too thick, so the center remained bland. Halving the thickness would improve the texture. Mongolian Beef - Tender meat, but I wanted thicker cuts and larger onion pieces for more bite. It leaned a bit soggy for my preference. Rice Cake with Pork Belly - Pork belly was well-executed, but too many rice cakes overwhelmed the dish. The flavor leaned Korean (almost kimchi-like), which felt like a departure from the rest of the menu. Beef Chow Fun - Felt repetitive, using the same thin-sliced beef and bean sprouts as other dishes. I'd prefer charred broad rice noodlesthat are thin. These rice sticks were wide and thick,so like the cod, the center of the rice sticks were bland. I also preferred more eggs in this dish for variety. The overall pattern: Many dishes share similar ingredients and sauce profiles, which makes sense for a busy kitchen but does reduce variety across the meal. Bottom line: If you're looking for authentic, nuanced Chinese cooking, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want a polished, upscale version of familiar Chinese-American favorites in a great location, with reliable service, Dan Dan delivers that well. I personally wouldn't return, but I can see why it's popular--especially for the crowd that wants comfort food in a nicer setting.
