unfortunately after trying this place for the first time, we were unable to eat the food. This was the worst Chinese food experience we have had in a very long time. We immediately knew that if we ate it, we would get sick, in addition to that the food was cooked so poorly that we wouldn't have wanted to eat it anyway. It's a shame to throw $50 down the drain as we literally just threw everything away. I don't find much use in complaining to the restaurant, because at the level of what we just experienced, no kind of compensation outside of a full refund could've made a difference. (but even that wouldn't have made up for time wasted and having to go find something else to eat tonight )... I usually like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt for having a bad night and making a meal wrong, but you can tell that this is simply the way this restaurant cooks and buys food/ingredients. I almost never review a restaurant, but I leave this one to encourage people to find somewhere else to eat if looking for decent Chinese food. read more

Hmm. So From reading other reviews, it seems that the restaurant is under new ownership... which is not a definitive reason for the lower rating update. But perhaps because of new ownership, the food has changed. Which is what brought my ratings down. My favorite dish from last time, the Ayam Goreng. I was super disappointed because this was no longer awesome. It was super buttery rather than crispy. And too sweet. So sad. Chicken Pad Thai. So I'm still trying to find a good TAKEOUT noodle dish. Restaurants don't seem to know exactly how to cook the noodles so it doesn't get overcooked when taken out. So it's probably perfect when eaten at the restaurant. Unfortunately all we've been doing lately is takeout because of covid... so the noodles were overdone. I've had lots of delivery noodles in Korea, and they are never overdone like this. So I don't want to give in to the idea that we should not expect too much from takeout noodles. Aside from the overcooked noodles, the pad Thai itself was a OK. Just a-ok. Sambal Udang This is the first time I've ever had this dish. But for some reason, I don't think this is quite what it would taste like in Indo. From TV shows, it sounds like this is a dish with some coconut flavoring, but there was none in this dish. It was just a mediocre stir fry with the ingredients listed in the menu with some kind of a sauce that was mediocre tasting. Different. Not attractive. And if you're not into trying authentic stuff, you might be thrown off by the tempeh. altogether it just didn't harmonize well. So, three dishes, three disappointments. For the price, I would've imagine a bigger portion. The Egg plant with garlic sauce & Shrimp was the highlight. By far the best Garlic Sauce in the northern Milwaukee area. Used to be a regular customer when Mr. Lee on the restaurant. The food was pretty good, and having Indonesian opportunities made the menu more interesting than most of the mediocre Chinese restaurants around here. I took a four year hiatus from the restaurant after it was sold. My daughter just recently went to Bali and I wanted to try Indonesian food again. I used the website to place the order which was some water awkward to use. Their pick up time for 15 minute windows, and I selected the 6:45 PM to 7 PM window. The food was ready in 15 minutes a full 20 minutes before 645 p.m. The website said that the ETA was actually 7 PM. Further, it gave me a choice to give them my credit card number or pay at the restaurant. I chose to pay at the restaurant. When I walked up to the counter, there was a sign that red 3 1/2percent charge for debit or credit card purchases. This is not Explained on the website. No to the food. The Won Ton soup was Brown. I've eaten the wonton soup at every Chinese restaurant I visited in every state I have visited, and I have never seen brown wonton soup. It had a very off taste, and was so salty. It was literally in edible. I fished out the wontons and they were flaccid, mushy dumplings with virtually, no filling. A real miss. I ordered a dish I used to get in Restaurant Lim around the restaurant. Basically it's Indonesian fried rice with shrimp and chicken and pork with a fried egg on top. This dish was greasy though tasty. Also a bit salty. The fried egg embellishment was very overcooked. Definitely not what it used to be. The old place is gone, and this place cannot emulate. One of the few places that was open during Thanksgiving this year. We tried Peking Chef for the first time and enjoyed their food. We called and checked if they were open and they were so we feel very fortunate about that as my mom was in the mood for Thai. We ordered some Tom kha soup, masamum curry, green curry with tofu, pineapple fried rice with cashew and basil fried rice. It was all so good. They told us the order will be ready in 10 mins and everyone loves a quick service. I also think their menus are decently priced for the quantity. It's reasonable. They also complemented our order with some amazing sugar donuts which my mom absolutely loved! It was a generous amount too. My chicken curry is pretty much spicy water with a bizarre bowling alley type smell. My wife's lo mein is literal mush noodles. The soup is a few wontons taking a bath in a couple beef broth cubes, and the appetizers are the same as every other mediocre Chinese joints around the area. I know I sound harsh but this was one of my favorite restaurants in the whole Milwaukee area when it was under the old ownership. I just don't understand why would you even try to be the same place. My friends and I have always loved this place. The Grandma have always warmly greeted us and made us feel like her own kids. Never allowed us to leave without eating her fresh made sugar donuts for dessert. Sadly we went there a few weeks ago only to find out that she had sold the place and more than half the menu is now gone. As e received our food, we could tell the difference knowing it wasn't cooked by the same person anymore. Seasoning wasn't right and portions have been down sized by a lot. With that said, we paid one last visit to her last night. It was a good call because it so happens that today is her last day and her brother so happened to be cooking last night during our dinner visit. Because we are pretty regularly there, last night's dinner she made sure her brother (the cook) made everything extra special. Extra sauce, extra serving and most definitely extra SUGAR DONUTS! We ordered off the Singaporean menu since it will no longer be offered. Or if it is offered, it won't taste the same because the new cooks haven't mastered her recipes. Before she knew we arrived, we could already tell the atmosphere had changed. The staffs saw us but didn't not greet us. I had to walk up to the register and excuse myself to get the lady standing there's attention. I had asked for a table for 4 and she told us to seat ourselves. The room is was cold and uninviting. Grandma and the old staffs will truly be missed! If you love this place because of the previous owners, cooks n staffs, you won't enjoy your next visit as much.. Food was not good at all. We ordered hot and sour soup which came sweet. The curry tasted nothing like curry with two pieces of tofu in a huge container of soup. When we were waiting for our order, a guy came in returning the sesame chicken and complained the food tasted horrible. I dined here last week with my friend, Nis Z.. She beat me to reviewing it on Yelp and her review pretty much nailed our experience. I will add that I loved everything we had. Although I don't think I really had a favorite dish. I thought each dish had a stand out feature which leveled the playing field for me. In the Beef Rendang it was the curry. In the Ayam Goreng Mentega, it was the contrast of the Indonesian Soy Sauce with the cool cucumber slices, and in the Kweetiau Goreng it was the rice noodles. If and when you visit, I recommend that you NOT play if safe. Go for the Indonesian dishes that you've probably not had before to experience flavors that you won't find on the Chinese portion of the menu and some combinations of ingredients that may not find on the Thai portion of the menu. Bad experience from start to finish. Waited forever to order at counter even though there was just one person ahead of me. Charge extra for credit card charges but took a long time to make change. Waited a long time for the food. This place says they provide dine-in service but the attendant (cashier/server) informed me they usually do takeout as she placed our order on the table in to go containers with a big plastic bag. I guess she wanted us to leave but we were just passing through so that wasn't an option. Got our order wrong. Waited some more. Delivery person made about 4 trips right past us with a loaded, noisy handcart. Steamed dumplings were good. Bali shrimp were super sweet. Almost too sweet to eat but we were hungry. Mehole experience was just bleak. We keep trying to find a quick good lunch spot along I94 /I43 but no luck so far. Can't rely on Yelp ratings. read more

My parents are Chinese born in Indonesia so my exposure to Indonesian cuisine is somewhere above your average person but nowhere near a native. We stop by now at Peking Chef every time we make the trek into Wisconsin from Chicago and have been working our way through the Indonesian menu. I do admit to the agreement of others, that the beef rendang is just not to my familiar family taste, so we've moved down to the: Chicken laksa (chicken with rice vermicelli in soup), ayam goreng mantega (fried butter chicken - moist and tasty). Also enjoyed the gado gado and babi kecap (soy based pork stew with tofu and black mushrooms). We did try the Singapore spring rolls (in the appetizers) offers curry taste to the usual spring roll. Next up for us: the Jakarta chicken or Bali beef. Fresh made donuts as mentioned always come at the end and we've gotten complimentary soups at the start on some occasions. (the tom yum had lots of veggies and the wonton had topping of sesame? oil for extra taste). If you're in the mood for soup, they're worth paying for - we're just focusing on the other menu items, trying to enjoy them dining in (large portions) and saving room for the donuts. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for a long time. Unfortunately the last time we ordered, the food was not good at all. The Bali beef and orange beef are both breaded but the breading was soggy. A recent order was not prepared properly. A vegetarian dish with one type of veggie and overcooked and dried out tofu. The owner was not considerate or willing to consider the order was not prepared properly. Requested compensation and the response was a definite no without any suggestion of additional service to make up for the inconvenience. Yum! This is good quality, fresh chinese food at a reasonable price. We each had 3 meals out of our dishes. Pork fried rice, shrimp egg foo young with really good gravy (not runny, thick or greasy) and chicken chop suey. Spring rollls were good, as were the crab rangoon and hot & sour soup. I will have to go back and try some other dishes as these were all very satisfying. The service was really good too. After ordering another couple times, I'm liking this place even more. We always get a large takeout order, and the last time, we got a bag of free sugar donuts AND like 8 small pieces of a tiramisu-like creamy dessert. Score! The food continues to be above average for Chinese and fantastic on the Thai and Indonesian dishes. The lo mein is my favorite I've ever had and packed with meat and veggies, not just noodles. The rendang beef is a must order: rich and spicy, similar to Indian curry with tender stew beef and potatoes. The spicy lemongrass chicken has a wonderful light lemon flavor with lots of mixed veggies and big pieces of chicken breast. Those three dishes are our go-tos, and it's hard to try anything else when you find things you like so much! We've always ordered from the older lady who works there, and she's very nice. She always asks how hot you'd like your dishes, and repeats the order back to you to make sure she got it right on the phone. Very nice customer service. read more

I very much enjoyed my early dinner here. I arrived around 4:30 pm and was the only patron that dined there the 45 mins or so I was there. There was one person that came in when I was eating to pickup a call-in order. The location is a pure hole-in-the-wall type establishment. You can see the staff making food by hand in the back kitchen. The customer service was outsanding. The woman that took my order at the counter checked on my food 2 separate times, and came when I was closed to being done with an offer to bring out more rice, brought a to-go box, in case I needed it, and a fortune cookie and 2 sugar-coated donut holes (not what they're called but essentially what it was). Before I walked in, I pre-decided to order the Indonesian dish, beef rendang due to seeing pictures of it in reviews and it being a recommended dish from a recommended food list I had came across. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in the dash. It was hearty and had a kick to it, despite getting it mild...which was fine, but I didn't feel like it had much flavor; nor was the beef tender. It was pretty thick and hard to chew. That was my only gripe about my experience. Had the dish been very good, I would have given 5 stars. I know, without having yet ordered or tried any other item on the menu, that there are many other dishes I would thoroughly enjoy. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back in the area, but would return to try a different dish. The Ayam Goreng Mentega dish looked amazing. I should have ordered that earlier this today. Ordered directly through the restaurant's website for delivery. They farmed it out to DoorDash through menufy. DoorDash never delivered the food - and indicated they had. The restaurant refused to give me my money back and dodged my calls until I used a different phone number to call. They then refused to assist, refused to refund my money and acted like they had no responsibility. Now I have to dispute the charge with my credit card. The pan-fried dumplings were 4 times the thickness of traditional dumplings and under seasoned. The Chinese fried chicken was the star of the show. I'd recommend that. Great big ... I mean BIG ... portions of nicely prepared Asian generalities plus a few Indonesian specialties. Prices are very low considering how much food you get. These are also called fun noodles at other places. Good curry and rich flavor. The other we like is beef with green peppers and tomatoes that has a nice gravy/sauce on it. Fake pad thai dishes. They made pho with no broth and called it pad thai. Food are not tasty. We paid $44 cash and when asked for receipt, she gave me one with $27 something and didn't have all of the items that I ordered. She had to print me a second receipt to include the rest. Everything was very fresh. Nice fresh vegetables, hand chopped. Great spices. Great flavors. I had the Kung Pao (Kung Bao) and it knocked my socks off. The hot and sour soup was as good as I've had in Milwaukee. In 2013, I tried this place and it wasn't awesome, but I went back with the work guys today and it was truly terrific. Excellent food and service. Lard nar was excellent flavor and fresh rice noodles. Wonton soup has great flavor and homemade wontons. Beef redang is a specialty and has excellent flavor with tender potatoes. Only criticism is Thai basil fried rice which had soy color/flavoring and authentic Thai fried rice does not use soy sauce. Peking Palace was one of my family's favorite Chinese restaurants for many years. We were so disappointed when they closed. When they reopened as Peking Chef, we were ecstatic that they had returned. Fortunately, the food is still just as wonderful & many menu items remain the same. My long time favorite, Three Delight Curry is the same recipe as the original restaurant, except it no longer has tempeh. Still super delicious . The standard Chinese fare is also very good. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the Northshore area. Peking Chef actually can make dishes spicy, much of the Chinese food you get lacks a wonderful kick. Dishes like their Sesame Chicken even packs a punch. Another of my favorites dishes is the Salt & Pepper Shrimp. The shrimp are always perfectly tender & the crust so delicate & flakey. This place is a hidden gem! Chinese, Indonesian or Thai food, this place rocks it. Don't be deceived by the lack of dine-in patrons. The vast majority of their business is take-out orders. I counted 12 to go order being picked up during my last dine-in visit. This is a family owned & operated establishment, The entire family is really nice & very accommodating to their customers. Phew! No longer living close to downtown and my Chinese food options have decreased. I was afraid of what I would find in the burbs. I was super pleased to find a place that makes good food with good service. The family that I presume owns this place was very friendly and even giving freebies for 'waiting long'; note: I didn't notice we were waiting long for our food. The food was good, provided spice accordingly, and was made to taste real and healthy. It wasn't covered in deep fried bread-y layers upon gelatinous flavored coverings from a can, like you can get in many icky places. This was good! The silver lining: They deliver as well!
