    Lunch buffet

An absolute must go to their lunch buffet. Sooooooo good. So many options, I tried pretty much everything. Things were fresh, authentic and flavorful. Such a great deal. Will be going monthly for sure if not more. Plenty of tables and big space. All the staff were very friendly as well.

Buffet is really good. Love the curry, pork, and the mango sticky rice. The food in general has good variety. Server kind of rushed us when it was a slow lunch day (only us and 1 other table out of the 16).

I have been going to Mekong Cafe for years, but finally tried their lunch buffet! For $18 this is a steal. They had a wide variety of their popular dishes. I loved the pad see ew and Mekong chicken. There was such a wide variety, the only thing I would say was that the dumplings were luke warm. Definitely recommended checking out this small business!

Haven't been here in quite a while, maybe five years (or more?) because of the change of ownership and because it kind of became a market instead of a restaurant. Recently, I'd seen posts on Yelp and TikTok that the restaurant is serving food again and have seen the female chef discussing what she makes, thus deciding to give it a try. Mekong Cafe identifies (first) as a Thai, Laos and Vietnamese cuisine; thus, I ordered my favorite Thai dish; Pad Thai. Unfortunately, 'cuz I really wanted to like this place since it is so close to home, it smelled horrible when it was placed in front of me. The color of the food on the plate was a dark brown and had a terrible, unappetizing odor, so I decided to leave. I left money on the table and as I was walking out, the chef asked me what was wrong. When I told told her, she said it was the fish sauce. Well, fish sauce smells delicious and is normally savory and has a umami flavor. This was something that was (putridly) the opposite. To add a comment about my unhappiness with this place, upon walking into the restaurant, the "gentleman" at the register glared at me instead of greeting me as a normal service industry employee would. I stopped and waited because the sign in front said, "Please wait to be seated." I did so. The man ignored me. I was about to leave when I saw the above referred to female chef, who greeted me; so I decided to stay. I ordered from her right away and forgot to ask for something to drink because I wasn't asked what I wanted when I first ordered. Minutes later, I saw another, young man delivering food to a table. When he walked by, I asked him what kind of beer they have. He said to me, "I don't know," and walked away. I didn't follow up on this faux pas. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and will not be returning.

Looking for a new dinner spot? How about one with a built-in grocery store? This place serves you Thai, Lao, and Vietnamese food for when you don't really know what you're feeling for dinner. I came here thinking it was a Thai/Lao restaurant, and was really pleased with what I got. The service is okay, but I come to these places for the food anyway. We ordered the pad thai and grandma's sausage platter. It wasn't my favorite pad Thai in the city, but it wasn't bad. The sausage platter sealed the deal for me. The hot and juicy lemongrass-y pork sausage chased with the spicy and funky papaya salad.....chef's kiss. Grandma knows what she's doing, and for that, I will be back for the lunch buffets!

We stopped by to check out their Lao buffet, but didn't realize it ended at 5pm. We ordered from their menu instead. Restaurant is located in the corner of a busy street, we parked down the street. When you enter you'll see the counter and groceries. They had rice crispy treat with thai tea and ube flavors. The server told us to sit anywhere we like. The restaurant is quite spacious.

Fresh spring roll, crab ragoon, green beans, massaman curry with chicken, and noodles.

The food was so flavorful! I went during the lunch buffet. The noodles were a bit dry but they have a separate section of sauces so I added a little bit of ginger sauce and it did the trick. I would definitely be going back! If you pay with a card, there is a small processing fee, so bring cash if you can.

The Mekong Cafe lunch buffet is back as of earlier this month, and I am THRILLED! I love their food, and it's hard to choose one or two items from their menu, so their buffet lets me try a little of a lot of options! Weekends offer premium items added to the weekday staples. Buffet runs 11am-4pm Tuesday through Sunday and open for dinner until 9:00. They are closed Mondays. Go!

Service was okay. There wasn't that much people, there was one person attending to everyone. Brought us a large jug of water after we were already all done eating.. Ambiance was a cute little mom and pop shop. Came for their buffet option. Food was sadly okay only. I've been seeing ads everywhere and was super excited. A lot of the food were cold or just room temp. Noodles were broken and the curry noodle was super dry. Really disappointed with the "dessert" options. Shrimp chips, sugar cookies, and canned peaches. I wouldn't say the food was terrible but it wasn't great either.. probably would not come back.

The greeting from the hostess was warm and friendly; she is an asset and really makes you feel welcome. Once we were seated and finally finished our struggle with what to order, we got our drinks. I had to go with the One Night in Bangkok again because it's just a really nuanced and complex mix of tangy, spicy and a hint of sweet. The smoke show also is impressive. My cousin tried the Berry-cation from the summer menu and it was perfect for her - very fresh and a little sweeter. Cousin-in-law got the Thai Goddess, with tomato, and it was very interesting - not quite fruity and not overly vegetal - very cool. Our food was amazing. The first several minutes were just a series of different people saying "Oh my God" as we tried different things. There was no weak dish. We enjoyed a good mix of seafood and meat dishes, that included Golden Fungi, Phuket Jor Pu, Namya Pu, Kurobuta Pork in Panang Curry Sauce, Hung Lay Short Ribs, the Samurai Signature Set, Kinnic Crisp Shell, Nam Prik Aon, Waygu A Rockfire, Mango Sticky Rice and a complementary birthday Yuzu Cheesecake. This restaurant has a way of really creating a special experience and hits on all the important points. Stunning,

We started with the Harajuku Rolls which had nice flavor. There were a few that tasted quite fishy. The crab Rangoon was delicious! The Pad Kee Mao was a bit spicy again and some beef pieces were a bit chewy. Downside was we got a weird table by the host stand right by the patio door, there was a lot of staff traffic and also a draft from the front door opening and customers waiting right by our table to be seated. The server was a bit interesting, not super helpful with the menu and did not check on us after plates came out.

If you are celiac or gluten-free, I don't recommend ever eating here. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. It puts you in a challenging and uncomfortable situation when you are curious about something actually being gluten-free. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. Although they have a dedicated allergy menu, two out of the four times I've eaten there it hasn't made a difference. Great restaurant, not great for celiac.

I'll start with what we liked - the ambiance, the location in the historic Third Ward (although finding street parking close by can be tricky on a weekend), the service. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu which is always appreciated and makes for a better dining experience. When we arrived we had a reservation so it was nice to have zero wait time. We were led back to our table and ordered drinks. The non-alcoholic menu was slim on options but the options were creative. We were told dishes are made to be shared so we ordered a few bigger dishes and the kimchi pancakes. When the kimchi pancakes came out it was nice that they were deconstructed so you could build your own as you like. Kimchi can be an acquired taste so I personally liked being able to control how much I had in each bite. The other dishes were large. These are not shareable dishes- they are legt. main courses. The Mongolian beef was ok. It had a lot of vegetables and color which was nice. The Mapo Tofu dish was a let down. It kills me to say that but it tasted funky. It was a strange flavor and not a good one. On the menu, this dish has three chili peppers next to it which the server told us indicated that it is one of the spiciest dishes on the menu. It had zero heat and zero spice. I asked for some chili crunch to add on top which I also thought fell flat on flavors. The flavors all around just weren't jiving for me. And there was fresh cilantro (maybe?) on top which did not help the situation. In hindsight the Top Chef coverage of Dan Dan and hype in the local media made us think every dish here was going to be amazing and unfortunately we didn't think so. I don't need to return any time soon.
