Good food, quick and effective service. They don't do all things great, though - this won't compare to Lahore Kebab House or Tayyab's for things like Lamb Chops/Shikh Kebabs/Nihari - but they do have fantastic curries. Another reviewer said their portions here were huge; I disagree, i think their portions are actually on the smaller side. But this is my go-to Indian place for things like Madras, Tikka Massala, etc. If Northern grill-type food is what you're after, go to LKH instead. But for your curries, this is one of the best. One of the best indian restaurants in London for sure. They do not serve alcohol here but you can bring your own. The biryani's are excellent. The mutton curry is delicious. They have a very large, diverse menu. Always a joy to eat here. read more

As this restaurant was recommended to us by good friends, I was quite disappointed when it did not live up to expectations. It was a Sunday night and although busy, our order was taken promptly. The vegetable samosas were fresh, crispy and very tasty. A good start. Then we waited and waited and waited some more. Loads of people who had arrived after us were served their main courses before us. It gave us time to appraise the decor, which is ok, but overall the harsh lighting spoils the atmosphere, making it seem more like a canteen. I had chosen a vegetable biryani which, when it eventually arrived, consisted of unappetisingly tasteless rice with what looked like frozen vegetables through it. These were overcooked too! There was no accompanying tasty sauce, just a dish of raita. I have eaten Indian food all over the country and this was probably the worst dish I have ever been given. The rest of the dishes were not as bad as this and I am left to wonder if this was just a blip. read more

I love Indian and I live near queesway, so it's safe to assume I hv visited most of the Indian places in the vicinity including khan's - the food unfortunately fails to inspire and other than the fact that it's big and costs less , there is nothing else which will remind me of this place . If u want ok curry food at a cheap price, this is the place . However if u want more authentic Indian food , try the masala zone at bayswater or better still at earl's court. Terrible food and service, went with my family including my mum, wife and kids. The food is not only awful, but very old(out of date) and uncooked raw meat. Please avoid, some of the food was just so uneatable we just sent back for a refund. Please avoid, it is a really really bad restaurant with terrible service. Now has a Muslim prayer room down stairs for Friday prayers, not tried it, but if you need to use it I can't comment. however, the food was of such bad quality like old and uncooked when we approached the waiters they were argumentative instead of just being honest and apologising. I ordered a chicken Tikka masala, plain white rice, and a paneer saag, no drinks, no dessert. I paid £14 and some change.. Presentation: The waitor gave me a plate to use, the plate was scratched and old, I looked at it closely and could see it had black marks and the "Khans since 1978" logo was on it, by the looks of it they haven't changed the cutlery since then either. The chicken sauce was very nice, the chicken pieces were tender, one was a bit gritty/under cooked, which I avoided. Overall I felt this tasted the same as a cook in sauce you buy from the supermarket, only there was less effort made preparing the dish and choosing good cuts of chicken. It also wasn't hot and arrived luke warm at best. The paneer saag was really disgusting, it tasted and looked as though they used spinach pulp instead fresh spinach leaves, overall the dish didn't taste very fresh either. The couple next to me were disappointed that they were charged for the selection of chutneys brought to thier table (mango pickle, yoghurt etc..). The waiter was a grump about allowing us to put our baby seat in between us, then the following happened: Me: I think I'd like the Thali, but I noticed that it is almost twice as much. Is it big enough that my wife and I could share it? Waiter: No; just for one (he was wrong about that, but that's not the point) Me: Then I think I'll go with this other dish instead. Later he brings BOTH dishes Me: But I ... Waiter: You didn't say! You didn't say cancel! The context of our conversation made it obvious that I didn't want two things (I was trying, after all, to share one). Furthermore, the speed with which he exclaimed that I had not said the magic word "cancel" (I had barely begun my sentence) indicated that he knew that I didn't want both but had caught me in a technicality. This behavior was abhorrent. Because we were with friends, and I am a guest in this country (and didn't want to verify negative American stereotypes) I didn't ask to complain to a manager, but I should have. I could not believe that a waiter would take advantage of customers in this manner. It was shameful and embarrassing. read more

Waited well over an hour for delivery, the food was luke warm when it finally arrived, portions small, quality very average,.. actually if I'm being totally honest I'd say it was below average. Got in here without a reso on a Friday night, although it was VERY busy! Service was a bit slow, but not too bad considering how many people were there. The food was excellent, and the non-alcoholic drink menu was fun. We had Chicken Tikki Masala, fried rice, and some kind of spinach potato dish. All very good! read more

a belated posting (finally...UK yelp!) from my honeymoon, 2007. we were on a b-u-d-g-e-t and it didn't help that the dollar's so weak. anyway, a hotel employee recommended this place as a local fave. so yummy, great menu selection, and totally decent prices. it was crowded both times we came here, but that did not affect the attentive customer service. in a cool area with lots of little shops and cafes. once in awhile i'll lean over to my husband and say "i wish we were at khan's right now". if you like indian food, make sure to hit this spot up. read more

I would give them 4 star after I went there repeatedly. Their food is great (seekh kebab, methi gosht, roti etc) or at least good/not bad (biryani, chicken karahi). Restaurant is relatively large and I would say reasonably clean compared to ethnic places. Downside: service is not great, waiters do the job just coz they have to earn money, they certainly don't want to serve. Only radon for my 4 is their good-to-great food. The food is delicious and not as greasy and oily as we are used to which is great!! On the back side of the menu there was a healthy options menu that could accord ate for many type of allergies. The service however was not great. There were many people walking around but only one could take our order. They were all Indian as far as we could tell and some were harder to understand than others but it was a little difficult to hear. Sometime when we would ask for something they would say yes yes and walk away quickly and then just stand in one spot and look around. Really like this place. Its reasonable but delicious food. I always go for butter chicken in this place, the best I have ever had anywhere else. Have it with the buttered nan and its real good. Starters are nice too, go for the mixed grill which comes sizzling. Tandoori is a bit too red for my liking (the type that stains your fingers) and the pina colada mocktail is superb! Used to always make the trip down with uni friends from central london. Can get really packed at times, best time is probably lunch time, to avoid queues. Mediocre food with menace! So we have been eating at Khans for about 3 years now, ordering once a month or so. Its nothing special just standard Indian food, sometime not even. We only order because its convenient. That is until tonight when I ordered, it took about 2 hours to arrive, when it did I got a phone call from the delivery driver saying he was on out on Edgware road and could I come and collect it from him in the rain? I am home on my own, my 2 children are in the bath and I live on the 19th floor, not to mention that Edgware road is a good 2 minute walk from the bottom of my building. I said no, explained I couldn't and asked him to come to up, I explained that he was in the wrong the street and how to get to the correct street. Anyway, after 15 minutes he had not buzzed, so I called the restaurant, I explained what had happened, he was unapologetic and said I should have gone to get it from the driver like it was my fault? He then said he was banning me from delivery ever again and said good luck to me. I was absolutely gobsmacked, why would any restaurant be so unreasonable and lose a steady customer? This place is inexpensive, and that's about it. The food is at best mediocre, and the samosas were the most greasy and bland we've ever had. The service was spotty at best, and we had to stand up and start to leave to get any. Khans used to be a legend and often visited by my colleagues and I once upon a time almost 15 years ago. I visited it again today (July 2012) and was not disappointed because I knew what to expect; not much had changed! Still the same fast paced hustly bustly type indian restaurant unique in its own way. Food was not too bad and has its own touch.. The food here is absolutely incredible... the best indian I have ever eaten. We had lamb biryani, rojan josh, butter chicken and some naans. They were magic for our tastebuds - not oily, plenty of meat, rice with deep flavor. And inexpensive!! So why 4 stars... average waiter service with few smiles to customers (one wonders whether a smile would crack the face of the smiler)... no booze. No liquor license no booze... so food that is 6 stars with 2 star waiter service and 1 star no booze... take out and have your drinks with this king's meal at home! read more

We went on good friday 2012 (apr 6th). I am writing a review on all the websites hoping they will improve. This is a tired looking restaurant so do not believe the pictures on their website. Food was very mediocre. The Mixed grill starter was cold and tasteless. The chicken tikka was white? and there was only 1 seek kebab which was dry and tasteless! The plates with the Khan's livery were clean but tired with marks around the sides. We ordered a full chicken. Normally this takes time to cook and is made fresh with a marinaded full chicken. At Khan's they just took 4 leg pieces and 1 breast piece from a previously prepared chicken which was over coloured and they simply just heated it in the microwave and put on a plate. Mixed grills normally arrive sizzling hot with fresh ingredients. Not so here. The best thing was the chips! which the children ordered. We were going to walk out after the starter but mistakenly decided (giving them a final chance) to have the main. We ordered the chilli chicken and the chick peas curry. The former was too hot, tasteless and over coloured red! For the latter, the chick peas were not cooked and still hard. The best thing we had were the starter poppodoms with the 4 different sauces. This is the first and last time we will go to this restaurant. There is a 10% service charge which is not optional as it automatically added to your bill. Staff service was OK and relatively attentive, but then this was about 6.15pm and it was not very busy. read more
