Had a girlfriend who wants to try this place out and decided to be her date for that day. Got here after 5:30. It's a cute little restaurant that's decorated for the culture that it is. It's one of those places you walk up to the counter and order and then pick a number and sit down. They brought out water and menus pretty quickly. The server was very sweet and lovely girl. She was a very attentive server she constantly checked in on us and make sure we had everything we needed. We got the chicken skewers, potstickers as an appetizers, drunken noodles and chicken pad we si as our main Course. Everything came out on a timely manner and everything was absolutely delicious, the portion so definitely good as well. The potstickers were definitely winner at the table that night. When I ordered Tofu she offered to have it made with or without egg which is very considerate for those who are Vegetarian Ordering was simple and order was ready 15-20 mins. Practical. Everything was very good my whole family loved each dish. Even my husband who at first refused saying he doesn't like Thai food. What an amazing place to stop and have lunch! Went on a cooler day and asked to sit outside on the patio. They set up a lovely spot for us in the shade with a great view of the lake! The food was fresh and tasty! We got the fresh rolls, fried prawns, drunken noodles, pad see ew, rad nah, and Thai iced teas. All of it was superb! Super disappointing experience at Khmer. Our pad see ew was virtually white it was so under seasoned. There were maybe 5 small pieces of chicken in it. The Thai tea was alright. We didn't order any other dishes once we tried the noodle dishes. Other dishes may be better? Also pretty dirty inside. Very disappointed how we received the mango & sticky rice dessert. The mango was hard and not sweet, barely any rice covered with runny coconut milk. This is the first time in my life I ever had a mango sticky rice like this from a Thai restaurant. This is one of my favorite desserts so to see it prepared like this is a huge disappointment for such a simple dish to make, they took no effort in making it! I will say Thai food is always a bit hit or miss for me. I am not expert in if the food here is authentic or not but it did taste good. I got two specials off their board Pinapple fried rice with shrimp and chicken and Fried pork belly that had rice, peppers and onion. The pinapple fried rice was good - the chicken was a tad bit over cooked but the shrimp were perfect. It also had some crispy garlic, cashews, grilled and green onions. The pinapple - I am sure was canned but it was juicy and sweet. The pork belly (I got level 3 spice) was tasty with a sweet and spicy sauce It came with some bell peppers, carrots. onions with a side of rice. The pork belly was hot and crispy. The sauce was so good I added it to the pinapple rice. The server was super friendly and made me feel comfortable since I was dinning alone. They seem to be very open to customization from what I heard from other tables. There is about 10-12 tables of different sizes mostly 4 tops or larger. The place smelled so good when I came in like fried garlic. The place seems very low key and family friendly. They have a nice outside patio that over looks Ellis lake. I would of sat outside but it was a bit windy. Bonus for the nice to go container for the liquid sauce so it doesn't leak put everywhere. I will be back to try the pad thai and curry's. I was so disappointed on my orders. I was craving a chicken larb and so I did ordered and pad see ew. I said from the time I ordered I don't want it spicy, and guess what they did the opposite. It was too spicy so I ended up not eating it. The pad see ew has a weird taste as well. Taste like other stir fry it on a used oil or something and they put barely any meat. For the price I paid an and similar Thai restaurant they're very cheap on that. I'm not recommending this place save your money or spend it somewhere else. Stopped in on Labor Day after dropping off my niece in Chico. Wow their food is so good. I knew it was going to be good when I saw Angel Wings on the menu. If you haven't had any - you have to try it. Angel wings are made with love as they're difficult to make. Stuffing a chicken leg with lemongrass and glass noodle is not easy. We ordered the Angel wings and it was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Will definitely order for a party/catering. We ordered the pork belly stir fry and it was very good. We also ordered the fresh spring rolls as an appetizer, and it's your standard Thai/Cambodian dish. She brought out Cambodian dipping sauce, which had a little more spice. We were so stuffed otherwise I would've ordered dessert but next time. It's definitely a must stop and go to eat lunch or dinner place. Plenty of parking. Slightly smaller restaurant with outdoor view of the lake. Waitress was super nice. Greeter everyone and spoke a line or two of their language (Filipino, Thai, Indonesian) very impressive. We had to start the new year off at our favorite Asian restaurant. Since moving here, and even in a few times we would visit, this place has been our favorite go to restaurant. You can eat in and be treated with fast service and good space to have a large party. You can also do takeout and get back home in time to still get the food nice and hot. My favorites here are the flat noodles (pad see ew), coconut soup (tom kah), the yellow curry, and veggie eggrolls. The gentleman who is there always takes care of us when we come through. His family owned business as a hidden gem and anytime we order from them or we sit down in their restaurant for dinner, we are always satisfied. I've been on the search for yummy Thai Food around this area, so when I noticed the great reviews, I knew I had to give it a try. I've been here a few times now and have tried different dishes: Red Curry, Pad See Ew, Drunken Noodle, amongst others and sadly, each time the food has tasted bland and not flavorful. The staff is great and they're very nice; however, based on the food itself I don't feel it's as good as other Thai Spots I've been too. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. I cannot believe that this restaurant exists. Being as even-handed as possible: NO ONE should eat, here; this is just wrong. They can't make even a basic broth. The pork belly was exactly like cubes of wet(you know, from the hot-water bath) fried-chicken bone ends--unchewable, boingy, with soggy batter stuck to it. They don't know, how, to cook pork belly. (Lazy? Rushed? Disgusting.) And, the vegetables were absolutely raw--tossed into the container, before slapping a lid on it. This dish was fried gristle and a side salad, soaking in bland water. (I liked, especially, the nine slices of onion skin.) I REFUSE to describe the Pad Thai--nothing but vomit, in a box. One bite, and my wife chucked it, into the trash. That dish was from a horror film. For seven years, I had an office, in Bangkok; for 29 years, I traveled for work. I've eaten Thai food. (Heck, I was in Reno, a couple of months ago, and was quite impressed by Thai Corner.) And, the off-flavor, discolored Thai tea had flakes of char in it. They aren't failing, miserably, at preparing Thai food. They're failing at the most-basic culinary skills--and, some cross-contamination, what with the griddle char, in my nasty tea. My untalented, lazy college roommate could have made that meal, better. (They don't know even Thai tea?!) We paid $76.00 so that the owners of this restaurant could laugh, all the way to the bank. This place is SUCH A GEM! The food was amazing and Victoria (the owner) was the sweetest !!! We started off with the appetizer combo (egg rolls, fried shrimp, potstickers and satay chicken) everything was so yummy! I don't know if they've changed ownership in the past few months but they have gone way downhill. It used to be our go to Thai place in town but will not be returning here. We went in today @ 8:35pm, there were a couple other tables eating dinner but once we sat down, an older lady came out from the kitchen and told us it was to go only even though they advertise open til 10pm. The same thing happened to us the day before, we thought they had decided to close early because it was a Sunday but it seems they close when they feel like it. She was extremely rude and said for us to come back next time @ 7:30! I was on a road trip and stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night... it was honestly the funniest experience. The server, a young lady, completely and obviously rolled her eyes when she saw me walk in. I thought, maybe google had the wrong hours... so I asked what time they closed... the only other people in the restaurant were leaving and confirmed they close at 10... and I was like.. OK. Where do I begin. The couple that run the facility are immensely kind and hardworking. We were treated like family and dined on several dishes and desserts. While the restaurant is labeled Thai, we were advised that they would also begin serving Cambodian cuisine. In this visit, we sampled their red curry, drunken noodles, stir fried vegetables, fried rice and pad Thai. To be fair, the food was good, probably around a 3.5 star. I will say that the dishes resembled one another in terms of quality and taste, but the service is what makes me give the 4th star. Our first time here was a fabulous surprise. Our server (maybe the owner?) was friendly and he explained all the specials and showed us pictures of some of the meals. We ordered the papaya salad (medium spicy), drunken noodles with beef (medium spicy) green curry and crispy egg rolls. Oh and a Thai ice tea. The egg rolls were perfect-crispy and flavorful. The Papaya salad was great too! Large serving with just the right spice and served with a wedge of iceberg lettuce. The drunken noodles-spice level was perfect-noodles were great. This dish has a lot of veggies. The green curry was a little runny but packed with flavor and veggies (peppers, eggplant, onions and maybe even some papaya threads ?) the Thai ice tea was refreshing and tasted great The restaurant is clean and well arranged. I was initially pleasantly surprised the total cost was not too high despite being charged for the rice for the curry entree but it later made sense bc the portions are smaller than all other Thai places I get food from. Let me start off by saying their food could be amazing but we didn't stay long enough to give it a shot. We walked in and weren't even greeted. I walked up to the register and the little girl rolled her eyes and glared at me as if she was disgusted we were breathing in the same air. She asks if we were dining in or have a takeout order. We answered dining in and as you can guess same response. She shows my wife and I where to sit, throws the menus down and asked if we wanted Ice in our water(as if that's not standard) we replied yes we would like ice in our water and she rolled her eyes and scoffed at us. We looked at the menu, looked at each other and left and drove to Sopa Thai. This place needs to hire people that actually know customer service. Beef basil was salty, yellow curry had little meat but lots of onion and thin liquid. Angel wings was super dry, they put peanuts and lots of lemon grass flavor in the meat. Bad business!!! I ordered from here twice, first time phones in a takeaway order, yellow curry was good and portion enough for 2 people, pad Thai was mediocre. I decided to order again online a takeaway order, the yellow curry was half the size and no white rice and not even enough for 1 person or worth $16. I asked why as the price was the same yet no rice and half the size, she said bc it's not the same as if you order online, I told her it's about consistency, and she argued with me, and I paid $2 for rice. If she would have given me the rice and had better customer service, I would have been back, but now I won't. Horrible for a family owned place in a small town to not offer consistency or better customer service. read more
