Ordered the pad see ew with shrimp for dinner since I was craving noodles. $14 if you're paying cash, $14.50 if you're paying with card. The man running the food cart was so nice and it took about 8 minutes for him to prepare my food. My family and I were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to take our food back to our room to eat. The noodles were still hot when I got to eat them and had great flavor! They were sweeter in flavor than I was expecting but still delicious. I really liked the texture of the noodles which were thin yet chewy. When I've had pad see ew from other Thai spots, sometimes it's a more dense noodle. The shrimp were cooked well and the broccoli had a nice crunch. Really enjoyed this dish and would love to go back and try the curry next time! read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting Portland and are both big fans of Thai food. We spent quite a bit of time on Yelp searching for Thai spots before deciding to walk to the nearby Midtown Beer Garden Food Cart area to check out the options. After wandering around and weighing all of the delicious looking (and smelling!) options, we both opted for Khob Khun Thai Food. He ordered the Spicy Basil with Chicken, medium spice level. I opted for the Garlic Pepper with Shrimp, spicy level. While we were waiting, we grabbed a cocktail from the onsite bar and pretty soon after our food was ready. We sat in the communal seating under the tents and dug into our food. I love spice, so I found the spicy level to be perfect. My boyfriend loves spice too, but it was a bit much for him, so medium was the right call. Both of our entrees were flavorful and the portion sizes were perfect. The rice was perfectly done , the yellow curry was delicious we chose medium hot and it was just right . This dish is definitely a keeper ! We are avid Thai food enthusiasts and stumbled upon this amazing Thai food cart that was within walking distance of our hotel in downtown Portland. We visited in July 2022. Holy cow is it good! The food is authentic, piping hot, and prepared with love. We visit Portland almost every year and try out as many food carts as we can when there. It's pretty typical to be met with aloof, annoyed workers among the food carts making it an uncomfortable experience. Not at Khob Khun! We visited several times and were met with smiles, laughter, and kindness. Our favorite foods were Pad See Ew, any of the curries, salad rolls, coconut shrimp, potstickers, and the BEST Thai iced tea in the city. We hated leaving Portland because we new we'd miss out on our daily Thai fix. Be sure to give this place a try if you're in the area - it's definitely some of the best Thai food we've had! read more

This was our first stop in Portland when we first came to visit. Ever since we've been regulars, we've tried the Pad Thai and fried rice, both are delicious but I recommend the crab fried rice (spicy)! It is fresh and contains a lot of FRESH crab. The serving portions are more than enough for one person and it is affordable. The lady working there is very nice and is always busy which I'm glad to see, all that means is that this is a good spot! Her prices are going up by one dollar, what used to be a $9 crab fried rice is now $10, it is more than fine because the serving portions are so good. Portland has a love affair with Thai food. I did too when I had Khob Khun. Grabbed a quick snack before dinner on a Saturday. Ordered the very simple, yet quintessential Thai dish - pad see ew with chicken. Pad see ew is just a giant rice noodle, made with Chinese broccoli, egg, chicken (or any protein), with a soy sauce based. This was 6 buckeroos. SIX DOLLARS. My platter was 6 dollars!!! AND it was insanely good! The vegetables were tender, the noodles with pan fried with a little bit of char, and everything was insatiably good. This was probably the best 6 dollars I have spent in a long time. Took a quick gander and most of the dishes are priced at $6 bucks. Honestly, that's a steal. Plus there's no sales tax, so you're basically eating for free. You so lucky Portlandians. read more

The thai food here is pretty good. Nothing outstanding but really tasty. So I had a craving for Pad See Ew, so I looked this place up. Unbeknownst to me, I've been there before. Yes, I need to branch my Thai food more. The food came out fairly quickly and it was a good deal heavy container. The noodles were light and delicate and not greasy at all. There was enough beef for this girl. I wished for a little more scrambled egg but no biggie. The weird part was that it had carrots and zukes. I've only ever had it with broccoli so it threw me for a curve ball. Whatever, more veggies is better for me right? The carrots were not my favorite, but everything else I scarfed down. Yum! I asked for medium spicy, which is weird because this dish doesn't come spicy. Luckily, I picked up some hot sauce and chili flakes to spice it up. Looking for a light snack, stopped here because the salad rolls looked divine. Looks we're not deceiving! They were spectacular.......enough so, that we decided to grab an early dinner to go. The star of the show is the peanut sauce. Plain and simple: you could put it on anything! By comparison, other peanut sauce tastes like it came from a can. Slight chili spice, somehow managing to not taste too "peanutty".......as in peanut butter. Utterly wonderful! My world traveling partner said it's "just like mama at Taipei Gate in ChengMai." I'm taking her word for it.......but the sauce makes me a believer. The Phad Thai was tasty, but I cannot review it, since we bought it to be nuked later......unfair. Between this one and the one literally two or three stands down, we for whatever reason went with this one. Plain chicken pad thai to keep things simple. It was just okay :( The chicken was really bland, but the portions were good. We had trouble finishing it! Not the best pad thai I've ever had, but definitely not the worst. Here, you can get ANY meat - chicken, beef, or shrimp (yes, I said shrimp!) for just $6 for many of the Thai dishes. I went for the classic, Pad Thai. You order by telling them what number you want from the menu (not by dish name), what meat, and level of spicy. All to the point for efficient and speedy service so that both parties can carry on with their lives. The Pad Thai was plentiful and would last me two meals. More bang for the buck! This is like "Food Court Portland Style". This eatery is located in parking lot with a dozen other vendors each of them in their own trailer backed up to the sidewalk. Each day they open at 11:00 am and close at 6:00 p.m. Some are open on weekends, others not. There were at least two of these "food courts" that I came across while meandering the streets of Portland. In any event, I was hungry for some Thai food and I ended up at Khob Khun Thai run by one lady who whipped up my food in a flash! I ordered standard fare...Pad Thai, nothing fancy. I stood there and watched her every move and wow, she was efficient and in less than 5 minutes my dish was good to go. The lunch wagon food was very good, very tasty, and very inexpensive. A heaping take out tray of pad thai topped with chopped peanuts and bean sprouts set me back a mere $5 and it fed me twice as I couldn't finish it all in one sitting! We stopped by this food stand to get a quick late lunch during a girls trip to Portland. It was definitely a good choice. I got the beef pad thai and really liked it. There are three levels of spice: mild, medium and spicy. I usually eat pretty spicy foods and so I went with spicy in a hasty decision. I should have gone with medium to more enjoy the pad thai and flavors of the dish. You know how sometimes things can get so spicy that all you feel is your lips burning and no flavor but you keep stuffing your face because you are hungry? Yep, that was me. I would definitely go back if I am in town again. But I will go with medium spice. I also have to add that the thai tea is pretty good! Not too sweet so just the way I prefer thai tea. read more

I came back from Thailand over a month ago and have been looking for somewhere to serve Khao Soi ever since. I was absolutely hooked when I was in Chiang Mai, but it's a really hard dish to find here in Portland. Lucky for me, the pod across from my work (at Big Pink) has this cart and their Khao Soi is EXCEPTIONAL. I mean, I finished my bowl of it (which was substantial) and was so in love with the taste that I was actually considering going back to get another one right away. I don't claim to be an expert on Thai food just because I spent a few weeks there, but I can tell you that this cart does it just like some of the best places I had when in Bangkok, Chumphon, Koh Tao, and Chiang Mai. My 1st food cart experience in Portland and I was a very happy girl!!! It was a Saturday around lunch time, and I had originally gone to this location to check out the Tabor cart but it was closed. We had just flew in and were starving so we didn't want to have to walk somewhere else. I had been craving Pad Thai for a while and decided to give this place a shot. I was so glad I did. The portion was huge and the price was way better than any place I've tried in SoCal. I believe it was $5. I don't know if it was because I was beyond starving but this was one of the best pad thai's I've had. They didn't skimp on the shrimp and it wasn't overcooked like a lot of places tend to do. I ordered it mild b/c they had plenty of hot sauce available to to take with you which was delicious. I love the food cart community concept they have in Portland, I wish they had that here in SoCal. This is absolutely the BEST THAI cart on the BLOCK or event in PORTLAND! Great portions, and add a salad roll, and you are stuffed beyond dinner. Excellent people, and they always seve with a smile. I have tried almost everything from their menu, and will work my way toward that but I love their glass noodles, their pad Thai, and their yellow and green curry and those amazing salad rolls!! It also comes with a good amount of spice at their spiciest and I cannot see myself going elsewhere. To all those negatives, try something else on their menu, and you will not be disappointment!! They are great. Not only they have a cheap price tag (5 dollar for almost everything), but also they have a great taste of food. If you like Thai food, this one could serve your appetite. Most of the food carts aren't open on the weekend, so did a quick circle around the 5th/Stark lot to see what was open, then consulted Yelp (duh, like a good Elite-ist). I think BrunchBox, a couple of Thai and a couple of Mexican places were open, and Khob Khun's reviews warranted a stop. I couldn't tell which one it was until I realized, duh, we were standing right next to it! (Facing BrunchBox, it was directly to the left) Ordered a #15 (mixed vegetables) with tofu and brown rice and grabbed some sriracha (so crucial!). I love that you get your choice of brown or white rice (same price, yes!!) if you don't order a noodle dish - rice comes in the same container as the entree so it gets all nice and saucy. Super quick service (and we basically got to see her cook it in front of us through the window -- I wonder what kind of pan/wok set up she had--it looked different than what I was used to seeing!), paid the $6 (a good deal for the amount of food) and hustled back to the hotel to eat (it was drizzly out). Yum! I wouldn't say it knocked me off my feet (Thai food rarely does that) but it was solid. WOW. Just WOW. I think I have found my favorite Thai food cart in Portland! Today, my co-worker and I ventured out to the pod of carts on 5th and Washington. Still trying to get over our mistake of ordering from another Thai cart (which I also recently reviewed), we hesitantly agreed to order from Khob Khun after quickly looking it up on Yelp. Sure, it had few reviews but they were all positive. So I got the Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp ($6, even though most dishes with chicken or tofu are $5) and she got the Pad See Ew with Chicken ($5), with full intentions of sharing. We were given a number and waited patiently for 15 minutes...there were about 6 people in front of us, so if you do the math, they churned these out real quick. Back at the office, we unwrapped our dishes preparing for the worst...and saw the characteristic dark brown glaze of the dishes. Visually appealing, with nice chunks of broccoli and carrots for the Pad See Ew and peppers, basil and onions for my Pad Kee Mao and 5 - count em - 5 nice big shrimp for my dish! Eating it? Oh my lordy. SO GOOD! If I closed my eyes, I could have been back on the streets of Bangkok, and not here in drab Portland. My mouth did a happy dance, savoring the intense flavors. Only downside is that they don't have Thai Iced Tea yet, but I walked a few carts over to Veli Thai and scored some for a buck. Yay-Yah! I think my faith in Thai Food carts has finally been restored! I came by for lunch on a weekday. I honestly there were so many food stands I had a hard time making up my mind. I decided to try this. It was a good decision. I got the summer rolls and spicy basil w/chicken on brown rice at hot level. The order took about 5 minutes, which was super quick. The summer roll sauce was warm! Pleasant surprise as it tasted really good. The rolls didn't have shrimp though, which for some reason I was expecting, but it had tofu and was good for sure. The spicy basil hot level definitely hit expectations, but I still got extra sauce to go. The extra sauce was a good idea. The chicken in the dish was a little dry and the flavor didn't quite get in. The rest was great. The rice for some reason was tasted slightly sweet, but the spicy masks it fairly well. Overall a great fast place to get Thai food. The only reason I tried this cart is because my neighbor is Thai and proclaimed it the best cart in Portland because it tastes just as good as street food from Thailand. How can you not be sold by that? I was hooked at first noodle with my Pad Thai. Everything is made fresh, unlike some other carts nearby who leave the noodles all day long, letting the sauce dry up and noodles clump together. The curries are great too, and of course Thai Tea.
