The sushi rice for the rolls, nigiri, and chirashi was a major disappointment to me. Did not have enough vinegar and texture was on the mushy side. Teriyaki chicken- generous portion, sauce was very thin (can be slightly thicker), overall taste is ok. What really put me off was the takeout chopsticks. They had no wrapper. I've never seen single use chopsticks without wrapper. Find it unsanitary. Would rather spend money elsewhere. Afterall, for $65 a person I expect better. read more

They give you a ton of salad but it was over dressed. Sashimi is not very fresh or flavorful. Sushi rice was very average and not seasoned well. Gyoza tasted like it came from a big Costco frozen bag. Salmon teriyaki was good but way too much teriyaki sauce. I scraped most of the sauce off and enjoyed the fish. The owner/chef Brandon has an elevated palate that he shares with his dishes, one example of which is the Coconut Hamachi nigiri, absolutely creative, absolutely delicious with delicate, complex flavors complimenting each other and the freshest of fish. If you want to see his creativity in action, he also offers the I Don't Know roll, where he has the creative freedom to make you something to suit your personal preferences in a tasty unique roll. Regarding dining here during COVID-19: my husband and I have eaten here twice since the restrictions in March. Each time we have felt completely confident in our safety, the staff wears masks constantly, the table spacing adheres to all safety guidelines, and we know the quality and standards of this restaurant have always been superb, and it's nice to have a place to eat out where one can feel completely safe. Sushi is actually tasty, but I would avoid coming here on a weekend night. We came on a Friday night at 6:30 and the restaurant was packed (understandably). The issue was that they had two young servers to deal with the entire restaurant in addition to packing up to-go orders which were coming in left and right. These girls were running around like it was a marathon and simply could not keep up with the number of tables and orders. They really need to consider hiring more waitstaff on busy weekend nights. It took forever for our food to come. My husband got his miso soup and she said she'd be right back with mine and then I got it 15 minutes later. There was a pile of empty soup dishes on our table and appetizer dish and we barely had room for our sushi because nobody cleared the plates. Our water was given to us at 6:30 and then when she gave us the bill she noticed 2 fully empty glasses and asked if we wanted more water (over an hour and a half later....). We couldn't help but feel bad for the 2 young waitresses who were working very hard but just unable to keep up. They shouldn't be in that position The sashimi appetizer is very good but 38 dollars is a bit steep for the number of pieces - I think around 28 would be more reasonable. The prices are on the higher end for sushi which is ok IF the food quality and service were on point. I would order again but only to-go or on a slow weekday night. read more

The first time I tried the katsu chicken and it was deliciously yummy!!! Situated in downtown Danville, Kibo provides a solid spot for some tasty sushi. It has a fun interior with lots of string lights, and plenty of action figures spread out which makes for a great conversation piece. It was slow on a Tuesday night, so we did not need a reservation. Both the gyoza and tempura were good, nothing to rave about though. Got a variety of sushi rolls, and nigiri. The sake and tuna nigiri were fresh and delicious. Kibo is a new Japanese restaurant in downtown Danville, now open for about a month. The menu has various cooked and raw set combos, and I believe ramen as well. I was in Tokyo a few weeks ago and was craving sushi for lunch. I saw the early positive Yelp reviews for Kibo and was looking to give it a shot. I was very impressed by how fresh the fish was. The fish was melt-in-your-mouth, rice loosely packed and seasoned, and each piece of nigiri at the proper temperature (room temperature, not cold!). Quality was comparable to what I had in Tokyo. I ordered saba, toro, ikura, hamachi, anago, and Shiro Maguro (Escolar). All were 5-star quality in my book, though I found the Ikura to have a slight sour note (4 stars). The tempura was also excellent - several shrimp and mix of veggies including slices of red beet! Breading was light and crispy - great execution (5 stars). Definitely a welcome addition to Danville. The waitress told me that most of the fish is imported from Japan, although some of the maguro is from Hawaii. Top-quality nigiri for sure! read more

My husband and I were in the San Ramon/Danville area and we were looking for a sushi restaurant. Found Kibo from yelp and since the ratings are pretty good, we've decided to try this new restaurant. We were able to park right in front of the restaurant and parking is free. There are several other restaurants around. We were there around 730pm on a Friday, and only a few tables were occupied. You get a serving of Edemame for starters. We ordered Agedashi tofu, that was excellent, and we used the free appetizer voucher from yelp that you get when you check in in yelp. You get glasses of water, but you must ask for hot tea if you want hot tea. My husband ordered the Sashimi salad, it was good, but small so he ordered another serving. It had 2 slices of different fishes (salmon, yellowtail, Tuna, etc) the dressing tasted like a vinegarrette. I ordered two sushi rolls - Kibo and Spider rolls. The rolls had a modern twist to it, pretty light and fresh. It was good. read more

When I was a high schooler at SRV I used to get the student special sometimes for lunch, it was a great deal and if its still going I highly recommend it! The service made a lasting impression too, everyone was always so polite, friendly, and attentive. Plus the decorations are so cool! I am so glad to see in the photos they still have all the figurines, they really tie the place together. The Tempura is super light & crisp, cooked like they do in Japan! Unagi Donburi is so moist & wonderful. Pork Belly Katsu is wonderful too! Sushi is very fresh! Nice new spot! Came here for dinner with a group of coworkers the other day and it was awesome! We ordered a ton of food, and then ate a ton of food, just the way it should be. They brought out edamame as soon as we sat down, which was tasty. We also had the Agedashi Tofu and Seaweed Salad. The Agedashi Tofu was excellent! One of the better ones that I've had. The sauce wasn't too salty and had just the right amount of flavoring. The tofu was lightly fried and plentiful. The sushi came out fast too, in no particular kind of order so we just kept eating. The Alaska Roll was particularly tasty. Not the best rolls I've had, but solid, especially for a strip mall. For dessert we had the mochi ice cream, yum!! They cut them up for us into halves so we got to try all the flavors. Definitely get the coffee one, it's super tasty! And the green tea ice cream was also pretty great. Service was wonderful! Tried it twice and both times was underwhelmed. The quality of the fish is just ok and tastes like the same Moony sushi that most restaurants source from. Presentation was nice but I don't think it justifies the price, especially since there is comparable quality sushi in the area at 2/3 the price. The cooked foods were decent but I typically don't choose a sushi restaurant for cooked foods. Likely won't be back for a third try. Just not value for what you get. Great new Japanese restaurant in Danville. It's in the same location where Kane sushi used to be. Gotta say that the staff here is really friendly and very attentive. We ordered the chicken katsu, Chirashi, and 2 rolls. We ordered the Kibo roll with salmon and spicy Siracusa and the Danville roll with spicy tuna and jalapeños. Both were very good. The chicken Katsu was a good size portion and it came with salad, miso soup and rice. What I like about this place is that all of the meals come with tsukemono which is pickled radishes and pickled daikon. Even the Chirashi came with tsukemono in the side. I had the great opportunity to celebrate my birthday with Kibo Sushi and a handful of friends. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a dining establishment. Brandon was super nice and very accommodating to our large party, even with the restaurant being busy all night. No items were dropped too quickly, everything came out at a decent pace, the sake flowed, the beer as well, water was always full, empty plates were swiftly taken away, and the FOOD. WAS. AMAZING. We must have ordered half the menu! The "I don't know" roll that night was absolutely gorgeous, it was almost too pretty to eat! Nevertheless the roll was eaten with delight.
