The price depends on what you select as your options. There are $7, $8 and $9 options. So if you want 2 items, it could be as high as $18. If you want 3 items, it could be $27. Portion sizes were decent. I ordered the tonkatsu and veggie tempura. They were both good. Not greasy at all. They didn't over-sauce anything. Soup came out hot. Salad was good. Based on several reviews, I was looking forward to trying Ha-La Sushi out and tried takeout on a weekend evening. The staff were friendly and they were pretty efficient as well. With regards to the food though, it was unfortunately not the best experience. On the positive side, the portion sizes were pretty good given the relatively higher price point, and the food was nicely presented. There were, however, a number of ways in which the food could have been better from our perspective: - The fried oysters were overcooked/slightly burnt and both the oysters and shrimp tempura tasted as if they were cooked in old oil - The ebi, albacore and unagi nigiri had a good fish-to-rice ratio but the fish didn't seem that fresh tasting - The Lazy Roll's scallop slices that topped the rest of the roll had an odd texture to them, although the sauces on top were good - The Super California roll had slices of salmon on top of a California roll, and the salmon texture and taste also seemed off - The negihama roll was ok and again, the hamachi just did not taste fresh or flavorful - The combination dinner included a generous portion of iceberg lettuce and creamy ginger dressing, and the chicken teriyaki was cooked pretty well, although the sauce was a bit sweet Overall, the takeout meal seemed to miss the mark in several ways and hope this was just an off night for them in terms of the quality of product. read more

This sushi restaurant gets two stars because the sushi is very good. But it loses three stars because you hardly get any sushi for the very high price. I'm used to paying a lot of money for sushi and it's worth it, although I my last trip here I spent $85 for very tiny rolls, I couldn't believe it because the bag hardly weighed anything. Also we paid for a portion of Rice and it was so small that I asked for a little more and they said no. Considering that rice costs next to nothing and I had paid so much for the rest of it I couldn't believe they could've afforded an extra scoop. I think of this place could be a little more generous in their serving portions they would be great. Review is for Doordash Order: I was craving a lighter lunch today after indulging on donuts for breakfast. The morning was a bit hectic and a pick-me-up was called for! Sushi sounded like a great option and there are no shortage of options in my neighborhood. I decided to try Ha-La Sushi in nearby Alamo for a change. I ordered the Nigiri Deluxe and was surprised at the relatively low price of $19 for 7-piece nigiri, 6 Cali Rolls, salad, and miso soup. Remember this is Alamo, where the median home price is over $2 million, LOL. The Cali Rolls were very good - loosely packed, seasoned rice, and very soft fillings. The nigiri sushi were huge but taste-wise fell a little short. The rice was a bit too densely packed and there was not enough vinegar. Fish toppings were okay - shrimp was a bit on the firm side while the tuna and salmon toppings were good. I did like the miso soup - thick, creamy and loaded with seaweed and tofu. Overall 3 stars. I'll probably stay a bit more local for my Nigiri fix, even though prices seem higher in places like Yayumi and Senro. read more

My mom and I used to have lunch at Ha-La Sushi almost every week on Thursday for quite a long time and it was always one of the highlights of the week. Everyone that works there was always so incredibly nice and patient with mom, who was in the early stages of dementia at the time. They were always happy to see us and, of course, we were always happy to see them. The cuisine is wonderful at Ha-La. It's very tasty and made with love, and it will always be my favorite place to go for lunch in Alamo, but the real magic at Ha-La Sushi is the very sweet people that work there. read more

In terms of sushi options in Danville & Alamo, this is probably my favorite! They are a little slow getting your food out or finishing takeout orders sometimes, and unprepared for evenings when there are a lot of people dining in at the same time. That being said, everyone at Ha-La is incredibly friendly; if you don't know what to order, ask for some recommendations! They sometimes have specials that aren't on the menu. Personally, I recommend the Lazy Roll ($18), which has raw salmon and avocado inside & raw scallop, tobiko, and a spicy sauce on top. I haven't had this exact roll at any other restaurant before, and even rolls that are similar haven't been executed as well as Ha-La does it. The Hamachi Avocado ($10) is also always a safe bet. The gyoza ($10) are quite good as well. I used to love the Nabayaki Udon ($20) here, but the quality of the seafood (especially the fish) is inconsistent....not worth the $$. Overall: More of a 4 star than 5, but it's a good spot for locals. Service can be a bit slow on busier nights, and I would order at least 30-45 minutes ahead for takeout if you don't want to wait too long. Nice atmosphere, okay-ish value. This won't be the best sushi you've eaten, but it's tasty! read more

Worse sushi ever!!! We got take out and the color of the raw fish looked off. The tuna was very veiny and they didn't remove the blood line on my red snapper. My sushi rice was very stale and our soft shell crab tasted like it had been out of the freezer. We also arrived on time to make sure that the crab would be at least warm. The donbari had no veggies except a few stops of cabbage, the salmon was super thin and the teriyaki tasted funny. They also are one of the only sushi spots open on Sunday in the area, which was a plus. It's located in a shopping center, so parking is easy. I would like to start off by saying, shelter in place has affected a lot of businesses. It was busy when I ordered my togo, but keep in mind these people stay open and try to make the best of what they can. Some days are more busy, and they can't have all their staff there because they don't know which days are going to be busy. So with that said, it was a little unorganized but I understand. They have very fresh selections of sashimi (salmon and toro are my FAV)!! My mom loves the unagi rice bowl, so we got that as well, the flavor was there, she said it was delicious. Our take out rolls and nigiri were no better than what you would find at an average grocery store. The TUNA was so unnaturally red that we didn't eat it. This place is absolutely DELICIOUS! I have had a ton of sushi in my love, and this place deserves to get more recognition. Came tonight for my dad's birthday and everything was fresh. The slices are all thick and hearty, the customer service was fantastic, and each dish prepared to perfection. The hamachi Kama is the best I've had (and I've had MANY from other places), the squid was cooked very well, and the sashimi had excellent texture and taste. I would give this place 5 stars, but I'm hard to please (because I'm a snob, not because they don't deliver top quality!). We arrived at 6:20 and told the waitress we were in a hurry. The place was pretty empty, only 2 other tables taken and 1 was finishing, so we figured it would be fast. We ordered some tempura, gyoza, and two rolls. We again mentioned were in a hurry so would be fine if she could just bring things out as they were ready. We saw our rolls come out around 6:35 but she let them sit up there for 10 minutes. She also had other rolls that came out after that she brought to other families that had sat down after us. She also ran credit cards for at least one table - all while our sushi sat up there. So at 6:45 she brought the sushi. Another few minutes later she brought the gyoza. We asked for the check because we had to hit the road...she brought the check, THEN brought the tempura. Now we've got to get going but it'll take too long to get a box and tempura in a box sucks the next day. So we attempted to heat steaming hot tempura fast. Ugh. All the food tasted good, the sushi in particular was tasty. But the service was AWFUL. read more

You get what you pay for!!! Ken, the owner, picks his own fish every morning! You know you are getting fresh, tasty, fish. I call Ha-La an Asian fusion, sushi restaurant. A combination of Japanese and Chinese. All the rolls are delicious and they have all the traditional named ones. The difference? It has to be the freshness of the fish. I have always enjoyed this place. We come here for sushi whenever I am home visiting my parents. Although it is very expensive, I have never been disappointed by the quality of fish - which is really the most important part. All their sashimi is cut well and melts in your mouth. I love their sashimi specials which always make a delicious meal. Their salad dressing is one of my favorites. They have lunch specials which run from $16-20. Not cheap but I find it to be worth it. If you're looking for high quality sushi and good basic Japanese food, I recommend Ha-La (used to be Ha-Ru) to you if you're in the area. read more

First time here, solid Japanese food I was not disappointed and will surely return. The owner Ken is super friendly. They have a couple TVs and will have local sports games playing which is a plus in my book. The sushi portions were both generous and fresh. Prices very reasonable for the quantity given $20.00 for a two item combo. Teriyaki salmon sauce on point, not too sweet like most places. One of the better sushi places around in my opinion. New to the area so tried Ha-la for lunch yesterday. We are big sushi fans so were disappointed in our experience there. We only tried several of the rolls - dragon and spider - and were surprised how small the roll sizes were considering the price of $20 and $19 respectively. The soft-shell crab in my spider roll was a dark brown (over-cooked) and tasted like it had been around a while. The only bright spot was service was great but given there were only 2 other tables occupied, I guess that was going to be a given. Maybe that should have tipped us off on the quality of the food there. We won't be going back. read more
