Kickin' Chicken fits into my "remarkably unremarkable" category. It's a no frills restaurant "specializing" in fried chicken. Chicken tenders, fried chicken buckets, wings, etc. As soon as I walked in, the smell of chicken frying in grease hit me. The interior and decor give off a fast casual feel. There are a few booths and high-top tables and backless stools. The place was clean and I appreciated that there wasn't overly loud music, which seems to be commonplace these days. Kitschy artwork is also hung on the walls, along with a large chicken statue near the front door. We ordered a 30 pack of wings with cajun seasoning along with a large side of onion rings. The Airbnb was close by, so decided to take the order to go. The wings were nice and crispy, but tbh, there were a few that were on the overcooked and dry side. The wings were generously coated with the cajun spice, but I wasn't a fan of the "butter sauce" used to toss the wings. Tasted more like some sort of vegetable oil and not actual butter. I also thought some of the wings were on the smaller size, but there was a decent mix of both the "flats and drums." Surprisingly, I thought the onion rings were very good. At least to me, these appeared hand cut and prepared in the store, since there were irregular sizes and the batter wasn't overly thick. The onion rings were still crispy even after the 10 minute drive. Apparently Kickin' Chicken it's a local establishment that's been around since the late-2000's with another location in Milford, DE. This place is fine to satisfy your craving for deep fried food...but I wouldn't make a special trip outta my way to visit. read more

First off let me say that Kick'n Chick'n has been our go to place for fried chicken for years. However, I was disappointed with a chicken cheese steak sub I got here recently. The person who took our order just didn't listen. I asked if the chicken was shredded, they said yes - it was not, instead - there were chunks of chicken. Let's start with portions... They are BIG portions for the sides. I was very excited to have something like this relatively close to my house being new to the area. So last night I decided to venture in and check it out. I was the only one at the store when I walked in.... I chatted with the guys behind the counter for a minute and decided to order. Ordering all dark meat is usually cheaper as most people ask for white meat.... well there was an upcharge for the dark meat as well. I figure if its all nice and fresh and kicks but taste wise I don't mind. I also ordered 3 tenders and a chicken sandwich. After waiting the 20 minutes to cook my chicken it was all packaged up and I was on my way home. A few minutes later I was sitting down ready to feast....and this is where the problem is. Only one of the 8 pieces of chicken was actually freshly cooked. All the rest were dark from sitting around for a bit and almost to the point of being cold. There were 6 older dark pieces, one fresh leg (that was really good) and a wing. I was full but seriously disappointed. If I wasn't so hungry I would have thrown it away. The grilled chicken sandwich didn't have much coloring to it....almost like it was steamed. Never to be ordered again. The tenders were small, deep fried and decent. I'm not so sure I will go back again..... especially after waiting for fresh chicken, after asking specifically if it was freshly cooked when I walked in. Will give a pass on green beans side order which was so bland and tasteless, believe they simply opened a can and heated content. Considering this is a "fried chicken joint", the chicken was not good, to put it mildly. This is the best chicken around! Cooked fresh. Crispy, flavorful skin and juicy inside. Disappointed when they closed the Rehoboth location but it's worth driving to Lewes to pick up. I've never tried any of the sides, so can't comment on that. read more

The staff is friendly and the unisex bathroom is clean. It goes directly down hill from there. The side of potato salad (the best part of life meal) was good. The chicken, not so good. Overcooked. It's okay if the skin to be crispy, but not the meat. The coating was blan and very hard to chew. You'll get way better chicken at Royal Farms, KFC or Popeyes and at a lower price. Tried this place out of curiosity. It was awful. The chicken was burnt and the chicken tasted rubbery. Tasted like it was overcooked. Ordered Cole slaw (which was soupy) and mashed potatoes. I really miss holiday chicken!!! 3 years ago, kickin chicken it was great. ...but the last few times I have been disappointed. ... its more expensive and got less....at first...i would get a biscuit with a 4 piece bucket...not so now...I mean. ..come on, they charge almost 8 bucks for 4 pieces of chicken...they can't throw in a piece of bread...wow The wing and the leg I got last night were both over cooked....damn...chicken is all they serve. ..it should be a no brainer...get it right!! Against my better judgement, I returned to the Kickin' Chicken last night. Let me start by saying that the food is always on point. That is what makes the treatment you receive even more infuriating! We ordered a 12 piece chicken meal, no sides. We were told 20 minutes, and when we got there, the guy (whom I THINK is the owner, but am now 100% sure,) told my husband that he had accidentally made our order wrong and it was lacking 2 breasts. Everyone knows the breasts are the best pieces! Now an error order is not a deal breaker for me, I get it, we are human. And to his credit, he took $5 off the order and threw in a few free chicken wings. It would have been another 25 minutes for additional chicken to make our order complete, and by then the rest of our dinner would have been ruined, so we took what we had and went. And it was delicious, as always.The problem is that he treated my husband like absolute crap, AGAIN. Now my husband is NOT the kind of guy to jump to conclusions. When he is treated badly, nine times out of ten, he won't even say so. But he walked away from this place looking crestfallen and said to me, "I don't even know why we keep coming here." I guess it is just one of those businesses that know that their product is good, so they can treat their customers like we are disposable. Everytime he or I go in there, we are verbally berated or assaulted. The first time was my sister in law and husband went in, the same guy literally SCREAMED at them about closing the box (it was pouring rain,) saying that if they wanted soggy chicken, that was their problem. Literally, he rudely screamed at them. The second time they had a sign up for YESTERDAY'S special, and refused to give it to us, or erase the board once they explained (none to kindly, as usual, they bit my head off,) that it was from the day before. One thing about restaurants and businesses in this area that shocks me is the fact that it is actually abnormal if you are treated nicely when you patronize a shop, restaurant, etc. It is a sad truth of living in a place where many patrons are transient, tourists. Since the business is always there, they have no motivating factor to treat us kindly. It irritates me even more when I think about the fact that I am a local, the bread and butter for this area in the winter time. UGH!!!!!!!!!!
