Systematic double-billing and fraudulent financial practices - should I say more? Though you have descent insurance, they will charge you the entire amount of services, claiming that this is the amount that insurance won't cover (100%, really?). Then they bill your insurance for EXACTLY THE SAME AMOUNT and get paid again. They will never tell you that you overpaid, and once you figure it out once your EOB is ready, Kids Dental will a) deny there is an overpayment b) try to keep it and "apply as credit for future services". Ouch! Oh, and good luck getting an office manager to speak with you: she is "so busy, and has to serve thousands of patients across multiple locations". On top of that, if you paid with your FSA card, you now have to go through the repayment process and all other time-consuming stuff. When this happened once, I thought that this was an honest mistake. But it happened again. And again - with a friend of mine. I usually don't do reviews but since this is related to children I will write a review so this doesn't happen to anyone. I took my 4 YO here for a clean first time last year. They said she have several cavities. Which was shocking to me since she rarely eat sweets or drink juice, but I figured it was genetics. They wanted us to do fillings for all. We did one for the front but of course it's traumatizing for kids. So we put it off and for the next visit they wanted us to do fillings for the 4 cavities. I trusted my instinct and went for a 2nd opinion. I didn't tell the new dentist anything about my concerns. Low and behold, he said her teeth were fine. I asked if there were any cavities and he said no. Trust you gut and my review! read more

The staff are so friendly and gentle, the waiting room has a giant playground and touch screen games (that actually work) and the place has an overall air of comfort and cleanliness. Each chair has a TV for the kid's to watch and before getting settled they get to pick their movie out. The hygienists know how to comfort even the most anxious child - the place is geared perfectly toward children. Silly names for each dental tool, and the kids are encouraged to hold each tool and see how it works to further calm nerves. They offer gas as well if deemed necessary. I have been taking my boys to Kids Dental for years and I just had a bad experience with them today. I have had other bad experiences with the office manager in the past too and in which one time I received a personal phone call from Dr. Holt. He made the decision to cover the cost of my kids filling because I was about to leave and get a second opinion. This is after doing the recommended fluoride and sealants that cost out of pocket. I was so frustrated. However, again today same situation came up. The recommended fluoride (not covered by insurance for the second dental visit) - I opted to not have it done. Also, I received a call right before the check up that one of my sons was due for X-rays, not covered by insurance. Which they didn't do during the visit because they were too worried about not doing the fluoride. When I went to check out the office manager was trying to charge me for the fluoride and she says by the way, we didn't do the x rays for your son either. They also told me that both of my sons have cavities on the sides of their molars (2 cavities on my oldest and 1 cavity on the younger son). They just had sealants and fluoride last fall! I am so annoyed that they find something to charge me for each visit. I walked out after I told the office manager that she needs to figure out what the staff is doing. On top of that, my kids see a different dentist every time at Kids Dental. Today, there was no check up by the dentist. On other occasions, they have tried to refer us to their orthodontist. I am so glad that we didn't go with Kids Dental's orthodontist... for one thing, he is only in the Plano office once a week and the rest of the week in Carrollton. Ha... no thank you. I will be requesting our dental records and moving on to another pediatric dentist. This practice nickle and dimes you for everything! The fluoride, the nitrous oxide for every procedure and sealants ... that pays for maintenance and rent of the fancy West Plano office with a two story indoor playscape. read more

I've been losing confidence in this place for a very long time. I've brought both my sons here since they were 9 months old and they are now 8 and 6 years old. However, we almost never see the same dentist anymore. We LOVED Dr. Z when she practiced there, but then she left... And things have just gone downhill. Today, after a check up, we were told we needed to get both boys' molars sealed. I gave the ok, and they immediately started having me sign documents about my out of pocket costs, which is great. Except... One molar isn't covered because it had a filling. A filling that wasn't due to a cavity, but was recommended as a preventative action because my son had a "pit" that might be a breeding ground for bacteria that could then cause a cavity. I allowed it at the time because they pushed us in that direction. But now, I'm being told that the insurance will no longer cover sealing because of a filling my son didn't need. They also were trying to force gas on my children in order to have the sealing. This is so not necessary. My 5-year old had a dental appliance installed sans gas - I think he can handle having his molar sealed. I asked them to reconsider this, and the girl working with me rolled her eyes and got up to ask the dentist. When she came back, she said that we would have to go that route. ??? So what should have cost about $80 out of pocket for my kids to have their molars sealed, turned into almost $300 ($50 each for nitrous and $148 for the ONE tooth no longer covered by insurance because of a procedure that my child didn't need, in addition to the out of pocket cost of the sealing to begin with.) When I complained to the assistant office manager about how I didn't feel like I should have to pay for this out of pocket because the dentist is the one that pushed us to do unnecessary work on this tooth, she was stone-faced, unapologetic, and cold. I asked the receptionist for my children's records and filled out the records-release requests and left. We will be finding a new dentist. After walking to the car, we realized that we forgot to get school notes. I immediately returned, and when I walked into the office, I heard the entire office gathered around together gossiping about me. Super professional. read more

We've been going here for a few years now. Everything had been great. The staff, service and clearly the fun activities they get to do prior and during the treatment. Until now. My 7 year old had to get some work done due to deteriorating teeth from meds taken when he was younger. We went for our first visit, or our first try, at fixing his teeth problems (quoted at $400). It didn't work for my son, so it was quickly suggested that he be sedated. It was also suggested that we get all this other stuff done for his other teeth. They provided a quote of nearly $1700+. We weren't happy. We got another opinion for the cost of the same procedure for $400. Very disappointed. Kids Dental has been replaced. I highly recommend getting a second opinion before you pay out of pocket what they 'suggest' you should get done. read more

They are NEVER on time. We've been going here for several years and not once have they been on time even when we have the FIRST appointment of the day! They were unapologetic about not even being at the reception desk to greet us for an 8 am appointment until 8:10! Then they didn't even take them back until 8:15. No wonder they are so behind later in the day. The staff can be rude when you question them on timing. They are also pretty aggressive in their treatment recommendations. They recommended an Ortho consult for my child before he had even lost his first baby tooth at 5! When we had a large credit on our account, it took quite awhile for them to cut us the check and send it to us. read more

I took my daughter here for her first dental visit at 16 months and we had a great experience! The staff are very friendly and you get to pick a movie so the child can watch while they are getting examined. They have a really nice i door playground for the kids and puzzle games in the waiting area. The place is very clean and organized! Dr. Holt was very friendly and caring with my daughter and he listen to our concerns and provided us with great dental education for our little one, great tips! My daughter used to be afraid to go to the dentist, but now she looks forward to it. She loves the staff and enjoys the environment. It's very kid friendly with slides and TV screens in the ceilings for her to watch her favorite Disney movie while she gets her teeth cleaned. If I could give them zero stars I would. I made an appointment for my 17 month old to have his first cleaning and exam. Because they are out of network with so many providers, at the time of making the appointment, I requested the code and dollar amount they would bill my insurance provider. I called my insurance provider to verify that the code and dollar amount were okay and would be fully covered. During the appointment, they examined the few teeth he has, brushed them and applied a fluoride treatment. These were all things I was told they were going to do. Afterwards, they billed my insurance company for two codes and dollar amounts, neither matching what I was told when making the appointment, for almost twice the amount. After my insurance provider paid their regular portion, the dental office billed me for the balance. When I called to dispute the bill they threw every excuse at me; I wrote down the wrong code, I called another office, I just didn't want to pay the bill, my insurance company mislead me, I misrepresented what information I wanted when I made the appointment, they don't provide codes over the phone, the code was wrong for my child's age. Basically, they refuse to admit they unintentionally committed fraud against me by telling me something and then doing something else. I requested the dentist and owner of the office to call me but was told very bluntly he would not because he doesn't handle billing, considering it's his office he should know how his clients are being treated. I've contacted my insurance provider, the State board of dental examiners and the BBB. On a side note, they made me wait 40 minutes to be seen, I should have known then they didn't care about their clients. Update: The business manager called me and forgave my balance which was completely satisfactory for me. She seemed genuinely concerned about my experience. read more

Not satisfied with the staff, anna made my wife pay the full amount for my sons visit due to it takes time to verify benefits she said. It only tajes a few minutes to verify benefits. However anna made us pay for the office visit and told us to deal with the insurance. Very unsatisfied. I have never delt with this situation in my 44 years of life. read more

I had been taking my kids to this dentists for quite a few years and have begun to suspected I was being over charged and was being recommended unnecessary treatments. The last time I took them there I was told my son had 4 cavities and my 12 year old daughter had some baby teeth that needed to be removed. I was very suspicious about this as my son is very meticulous about brushing and flossing. We decided to move to a family dentist in Frisco that was recommended to us and am very glad we did. As it turned out my son had no cavities and my daughter did not have any remaining baby teeth. My daughter recently got braces and the orthodontist confirmed this. I would stay away from this place as I do not believe they are trustworthy and they charge twice as much for fluoride as other dentists. read more

Complete scam. Told me my son needed cavities filled.... Unfortunately they had already been filled a year before by another dentist. Same appointment they told me he needed fillings, before they told me the news they already had a nice bill for $800 dollars waiting and appointments broken down. I have great insurance, and yet I owed $800 to take care of fillings that had already been filled. I was skeptical so I got the x-rays forwarded to the family dentist I have used for 25 years for myself, as they have always been amazing.... Verdict: nothing wrong and they laughed to hear the astronomical charge they wanted me to pay. Long story short... Scam artists, STAY Clear! Side note - some how preventative care, i.e. 6 month cleanings, somehow came with a $55 charge. Visited my dentist 2 weeks before and was not charged, yet I was asked to pay $55 for my son's normal preventative cleaning.... Just adds to my belief that this office is in it for the money, and not the good of the patient. read more

Great for very young children. Caring staff, but it always takes FOREVER to be seen by the dentist. Wait , wait, wait is the name of the game here. So now that we are starting "real" school we are changing practices. Busy parents/kids will not be happy. Very timid kids, or want to make a day of dental appt, this is the place for you. read more

My 14 month old son saw Dr.Holt this morning and I was so impressed with him as well as the office staff. He went above and beyond, answering all of my questions, and even providing me with tons of pediatric dental knowledge. My older son has gone and had a great experience too. Fantastic dentist and staff! We had been taking our 4 year old to another dentist since he was 2. He was completely good with going to the dentist and then they had to fill a small surface cavity. For some reason, this dentist decided no gas was needed (even though I signed to pay for it) even when he started fighting and crying. They ended up holding him down while he screamed. My kid was TERRIFIED of the dentist after that. We went to Kids Dental and they brought him back from the edge! He went from barely letting them look in his mouth to happily going back on his own and unafraid. He even looks forward to his appointments now! It was a long road by Dr. Holt and the staff at Kids Dental worked a miracle! I've never been so impressed with a dentist and staff! read more

My children have been patients for years. Several years ago, my daughter was running in socks at our home on a Sunday morning and fell head first into a door frame taking the impact with her mouth! Dr. Holt met us at the office on a Saturday morning to take care of her. They will forever be our dentist. We've had excellent care for braces as well. My children love going to the dentist which is huge! They are disappointed when they are seen so quickly and have to stop playing on the amazing play structure. Great place for special needs children too. The kids had a lot of anxiety from another dentist attempting to get xrays. Kids Dental gets them without a problem! read more

Watch out for these people, they are lying thieves! Took my kids there and they did stuff without letting me know that there would be a charge for it. We were just going in for teeth cleaning. They also said my children needed $500 worth of dental work aka "cavities" I got a second opinion, went to a different dentist and the new dentist said my children had zero cavities! I decided to try this dentist because my neighbor had rave reviews for their orthodontist side. I figured if they had great orthodontal care, they should have wonderful dental care as well. When I walked in, I was amazed by all the activities they had for the kids, from a climbing gym to video games to movies. The staff was also friendly and nice, I was impressed. However, things quickly changed. I waited an hour before my kids were even seen. Then I was told that each one of my kids had $1500 worth of dental services they needed done. I was shocked because the previous visit at another dentist indicated their teeth were clean with no cavities. I chalked it up to maybe having a previous dentist that may have overlooked something so I unfortunately decided to perform the $1500 on each of my kids, which went from deep cleaning, to reshaping teeth, to adding fluoride inside their teeth. There was a long list of "to dos" the dentist (Dr. Z. Lalani) suggested they needed. Since my kids had so much work done to "repair" their teeth, they should be perfect now that they had $1500 worth of services, right? I meticulously made my kids floss every night and made sure they were super clean because I wasn't going to spend another $1500. 6 months later at their next visit, I'm told that each one of my kids requires $750 worth of care (exactly half of my deductible). So, I'm sitting down with the dentist asking what happened. There was no way they needed that much care in 6 months. Then I looked at the list that was recommended and I could not believe what I was seeing. One child needed their teeth pulled, another child needed their molar reshaped. These are baby teeth! I inquired why my child needed his teeth pulled and why it couldn't just fall out naturally. The excuse she tells me is that it could create a cavity in the new tooth. If the new tooth has not even shown yet, then why would it create a cavity, I asked. I think she was getting frustrated with my questions and tone and didn't know what to say. I told her that the things she mentioned my kids needed didn't seem correct and she replied that it was my opinion. Yes, it was just my opinion so this time, instead of just doing all the work, I decided to get a second opinion and to my astonishment, the new dentist told me my kids teeth were the cleanest teeth she had ever seen! I was so saddened when I heard that because I then realized that I may have subjected my kids to all the work that was done last year unnecessarily. I am so surprised at what they put my children through that I have not gone back and will not go back. I realized the services they wanted to perform on my kids were always the amount of deductible I had left. To make matters worse, I overpaid (because they charged me incorrectly) and it has been a difficult task getting my money back. Whenever I call, they tell me that they have to "keep" the money and apply it to my next visit. I told them that I wouldn't be returning so I wanted my money immediately. Their response was that it was a difficult process and that it would take some time. 6 phone calls and 8 months later, I finally received my overpayment, but it was a huge ordeal. I am beyond disappointed in my experience with this office. I'm not saying that every dentist in the office operates the same way. I'm just saying that beware of all the unnecessary services they list out and don't be afraid to ask questions! Even better, if you doubt even for a little bit, then get a second opinion. It could save you time, money and definitely save your kids from unnecessary pain and suffering. read more
