We liked this dentist until my 4-year old son needed to have fillings. After watching him spend almost 2 hours in the chair with a rubber dam in his mouth while a brand-new assistant (being trained) kept messing up, I decided to switch. My son sobbed through the entire visit, and the assistants kept telling him to "stop, because nothing is wrong." He now has MAJOR dental anxiety. Dr. Bhanji seems good with children and the office overall is quite child-friendly, but the feeling I got from all my visits is that they are hurried and not concerned enough with the individual experience of each child. Note to dentist: consider training new assistants on OLDER children who do not already have dental anxiety. read more

My daughter started going here when she was 3. Two years later she is still going to Dr. Bhanji. She has been amazing and we are very satisfied. My daughter started getting many cavities early on. She also needed crowns. We came to Dr Bhanji wanting a second opinion and ended up staying with her. She's very patient with my daughter and she listened to our concerns. I feel she really cares about what she does and we can trust her. The staff , Denise and Paula, are also wonderful. I'm actually surprised by the amount of positive reviews for Kids Dental Haven. I pulled my child from this practice a few years ago after unsettling experiences. For the two years we were there the staff changed numerous times. Receptionist and dental hygienists.One assistant repeatedly was angry with my child for gagging on the xray cardboard. The receptionist was in tears one day when I came in after a disagreement with the Dr. Condascending attitude from the Dr. Very pushy about sending them positive reviews. read more

Having terrible childhood dental experiences prompted me to do better for my own daughter. So on her first birthday I looked around for a kids dentist and was lucky enough to find Dr. Bhanji. I saw some of the reviews here are complaining about the price of certain procedures, but we have never once felt "over billed" by this office. The front office/waiting room is beautiful, inviting and relaxing. When they take you back the kids get to watch a show during the exam, they have teddy bears to cuddle, and Paula is always AMAZING with my daughter. She "counts" her teeth, and is so gentle. She showed me some techniques for brushing in those parts of my daughters teeth that are harder to reach. When Dr. Bhanji comes in she is patient with my daughter, explains everything to me. After the exam my daughter got a token for a toy machine that looks like something from the mall. I'm a little bit jealous that my daughter gets to come here for her first experiences, and mine growing up were so terrible! read more

After reading mostly good reviews about Kidz Dental Haven, I took my 3 year old daughter to Dr. Bhanji for her first dental appointment. The dental assistant was great! Very friendly, took her time explaining everything to my daughter. Then Dr. Bhanji came in to examine my daughter's teeth. She told us that our daughter had a mouthful of cavities and needed to schedule four separate appointments to fill cavities and add sealants to her baby teeth. When I mentioned that her baby teeth were going to fall out anyway, I was told that the cavities would travel to her adult teeth. When I asked about the impact of all of this dental work on my daughter, it was implied that I was overreacting and they would have to put my daughter under anesthesia to do the work, basically, so my stress wouldn't impact her. Yet they make a big deal on their website about creating good experiences for small patients, so as their patients grow up they won't be afraid of going to the dentist. Dr. Bhanji's treatment plan came to more than $1200! We decided to get a second opinion. When I called Kidz Dental Haven to have my x-rays sent to the other dentist they charged me money to email them over. I told them that I thought I had already paid for the x-rays so they should be mine, but they insisted that I double pay for them, essentially. Definitely seem like they're money driven! The other pediatric dentist over by Green Lake, mentioned to me that they get many patients coming to their office for consults, or second opinions, after being scared by Dr. Bhanji's diagnosis. The new diagnosis? Sure, my daughter has a couple of very small beginnings of cavities. Not deep at all. The plan? Flouride treatment and a germ killing rinse for a week. And see you in three months. It wasn't worth it to me to put my child through the trauma of Dr. Bhanji's plan. I felt like she was overzealous in her treatment plan, and the dentist I told that to said I was being "kind". We will never set foot in that office again. read more

I've been taking my two 16-year-old daughters to Dr. Bhanji since they were young. We are now looking for another dentist. Dr. Bhanji seems inaccessible; I haven't actually seen or talked to her for a few years, since she moved to the new location. All communication is done via her assistants. I sense a lack of personal connection, which is especially important in a relationship with a dentist. Years ago she had more of an open door policy, and interacted with parents. I'm not sure why this changed. More importantly, both my daughters have complained of pain during dental procedures. This seems totally unnecessary. In a recent experience, my daughter went to have two cavities filled on opposing sides of her mouth. The numbing for both sides was done at the same time, so by the time they got to drilling on the opposite side, the anesthetic was wearing off and was quite painful. The appointment lasted over two hours. It seems that two appointments would have been less traumatic, and I questioned that at the time we were making the appts. Of course, I was talking to assistants and receptionists, never Dr. Bhanji herself. Scheduling is inflexible, and receptionists sometimes seem irritated and off-putting. I do not recommend this dentist. read more

I used to love this dentist. We went to her for years until her assistant told me that they refused to talk to the children with correct word usage. They call Fluoride, vitamins and Nitrous oxide is happy juice. I left a message for Dr. Bhanji a message to discuss the matter and never received a call back. I recommend other to call someone else too. read more

From our first visit forward, my daughters always ask as soon as we leave, "when can we come back?". Dr. Bhanji and Paula are both marvelous with us through the whole process every visit. They are encouraging, and supportive with each child and their specific needs. Whenever I am in the waiting area, I see a steady stream of satisfied kids and parents come and go, many clearly long time customers. The waiting and treatment areas are spacious, modern and welcoming by design. The whole concept is clearly deliberate and it works! We have had to reschedule, make special requests, and deal with insurance plan changes. The office manager always makes us feel like old friends and provides really professional and personalized service. I cannot endorse this office and the entire staff enough; they have been a huge gift in our family's experience. read more

I try and make it a policy to review businesses that exceed my expectations, so I'm not sure how this one slipped through the cracks, but better late than never! My son, who is now almost 15, has been seeing Dr. Bhanji since he was about 3. I cannot say enough good things about this practice. The front desk staff and dental assistants have always been friendly, kind, and respectful, as has Dr. Bhanji herself. The office is clean, conveniently located, and super kid-friendly, and the dental care has always been top-notch. My son has only had a few cavities filled here - and that was many years ago now - and they tried very hard to make that experience as un-traumatic as possible (including showing him a movie while they did their work). As a parent, what more could you ask for? I would recommend this children's dental practice without hesitation. read more

I was referred to Dr. Bhanji by my children's pediatrician. I wanted someone great with kids who would put children at ease. I will say the office is beautiful and support staff were wonderful. The issue we had was with the dentist herself. She seemed to talk down to me as a parent and I observed her being rather curt and impatient with my young son. He did not enjoy his experience at all. He said she was too rough. I felt very uncomfortable with her treatment. I've since found a wonderful pediatric dentist in Ballard. All three of my children love going to the dentist now. read more

Dr. Shamsi Bhanji really cares about long term relationships. Recently when I called to see if I could get my daughter in for a check up because my insurance was running out at the end of the month, I was told that Washington Dental doesn't limit visits so she was scheduled. A few weeks later in the mail we got the EOB from Washington Dental and the visit WAS NOT covered. I called the office to see what they could do because I had been laid off from work. Dr. Bhanji waived all charges for the visit which she did not have to do. I am so thankful to them for that. read more

We are total fans of Dr Bhanji! She's been our daughter's DDS for 10 years now and we've had all wonderful experiences. My daughter has a cleaning every 6 months, and has not had any cavities so I can't comment on filings, but she did have the sealants added without any issues. What I really want to share in this review are the two major dental events we did have with Dr. Bhanji. Around age seven, the new adult front teeth were starting to crowd and we worried about expensive braces in our daughter's future. Dr. Bhanji suggested "skinnying up" the two baby teeth next to the new top adult teeth in hopes our daughter's jaw would grow later in the next few years to accommodate the yet-to-arrive other adult teeth. Only the exposed part of the tooth was shaved away, and even then it wasn't a lot. Maybe only 1/3 of the width of a baby tooth? Anyway, it worked! At age five, she had a strange little bump on her gum line, but it didn't cause her any pain. I waited until just before the next 6 month cleaning appointment and then emailed Dr Bhanji a photo of the bump. She called me as soon as she saw it to say that bump was an infection breaking through the jaw bone that was probably caused by a broken root of a baby tooth. There wasn't any pain so we had no idea she had broken a root! Dr Bhanji asked us to bring her in the next day - ON A SUNDAY - so she could do an emergency extraction. She worked on a Sunday afternoon for us, and we're not the only ones I know of who have been helped by her dedication. Many of our friends have also taken their kids to Dr. Bhanji for about a decade as well. One of those families had a very serious dental emergency while bike riding on vacation in Alaska ON A WEEKEND. A tooth was completely broken off in a fall and despite many desperate calls, they were not able to find any local dentist to help them. They called Dr. Bhanji to ask for any help she could offer from Seattle. She made calls and was able to get them an emergency appointment by a colleague of hers. The tooth was saved! We're all Bhanji fans! You can count on her. Additional reasons to love her: she's affable with an easy going manner; her hygienist April is consistently fabulous; the office is beautiful and fun with toys and video games in the kid corner of the waiting room; they send you a text reminder for your appointments; fair pricing covered by of our most insurance companies over the years; and they have on-line scheduling! Count on being ripped off here. It has happened three times so I am DONE. They WAY underestimate insurance reimbursement. Last time they charged me @$175 at time of service for anticipated uncovered services. I paid it. Weeks later they send a bill demanding ANOTHER $310 for unanticipated uncovered services. This has happened EVERY TIME. This is either incompetence or deliberately misleading the consumer (me). Save yourself some grief and go elsewhere. read more

My 9 year old daughter has been seeing Dr. Bhanji for 6 years. Her first dental experience at age 3 was with the UW Dental clinic and it was really tough for her there so I decided to look for a quieter environment for her. A well known busy and full pediatric dental practice referred us to Dr. Bhanji. My kid loves it at this office. Dr. Bhanji and her staff helped her overcome that initial stressful experience with the dentist and it has been smooth sailing since then. She has had fillings and I feel this was handled very well at Dr. Bhanji's office. I like Dr. Bhanji's sensible smart approach. My calls are always returned. Sometimes I get Dr. Bhanji herself when I call. She is easily accessible--more so than the average dentist--she has given me her cell number in the past when the situation called for it (my kid fell and chipped a tooth). I think she is one of the best pediatric dentists in Seattle. Her office is pretty cool too--my kid loves it there in the waiting room! read more

I appreciate the care and attention that is given to patients by everyone in Dr. Bhanji's office, where my son has received excellent pediatric dental care for the past nine years. Dr. Bhanji is trained to recognize and treat issues that can start in childhood and carry on into adulthood, and the preventative measures she recommended along the way have resulted in fewer issues as my son gets older. I trust her opinions and training and have always been happy with my son's experience. We saw Dr. Bhanji at the Kidz Dental Haven. She and her assistant were knowledgeable and kind. The office looks brand new (I am not sure how long they have been in this space) with TV's at every dental chair, stuffed animals tucked everywhere, murals on the wall and special kids decorations, the office was very kid friendly. I took my almost 2 year old daughter who is not impressed by people she doesn't know to begin with but especially not impressed by people she doesn't know who also try to stick their fingers in her mouth. Dr. Bhanji was incredibly patient and had some inventive ways of coaxing my little one to open up and say Aaaugh, all without leaving my lap. I was very impressed. The only reason that I left off a star was that it was darn cold in the room we were in and according to the assistant who I talked to it was just in that particular corner of the building that the drop in temp happens. read more

It is very rare for me that an entire medical office scores a full five stars. From the office manager (Denise), the dental hygienist (Paula) and the dentist (Dr. Bhanji) our family has had consistent kind, understanding, funny and gentle dental service. We have been going here since my oldest first started going to the dentist. Denise is wonderful with insurance and scheduling, Paula is so patient with my wiggle worm kids and Dr. Bhanji is always so positive and understanding. Always offering words of encouragement and tips on how to improve. I was so impressed that the first appointment for my oldest and the first two appointments for my youngest were all about making my kids comfortable with the tools, routine and the doctor. We have been patients I think for the last four years and this has included the twice a year cleanings, an emergency call due to my youngest face planting and tearing his frenulum and worry about his front teeth, and now with my oldest starting to use a dental appliance to create space for her permanent teeth to hopefully have room to come in we are in the office about once a month. Both my husband and I had braces and we were delighted to learn that Dr. Bhanji came from a medical university that had one of the few programs in the US that trains in trying to create space and correct alignment before braces. Dr. Bhanji was great about giving us information about the process and options that we had for next steps up to and including if we wanted to consult another dentist. The office is located in a newer medical dental building and always has parking and is super close to I-5 and the Northgate mall. read more

Very disappointed with Dr. Bhanji and the staff at 'Kidz Dental Haven'. They overcharge, underestimate how much insurance will reimburse (so when it comes treatment time, you end up paying more out of pocket), and overtreat. She is very, VERY quick to tell you that your child will need extensive treatment done, she seems overly eager to perform baby root canals and crowns. My daughter had a treatment done by Dr. B and her staff, at the age of 4. She was sedated, and months to years after the procedure, talks about being 'locked in a suitcase'. Now I know she was not locked in a suitcase, but she WAS restrained. Absolutely get a second opinion before you spend any money on the 'treatments' she wants to do on your child. Dr. B also charges at the high end for EVERYTHING. One little example - nitrous oxide. Her office charges $75 to use it during a procedure. Other pediatric offices charge nothing, $15, $20. It's just ridiculous what she gets away with charging. read more

My four year old daughter has issues with her teeth, probably hereditary according to Dr. Bhanji. She had needed two partial fillings, the first was positive for her. My problem was that my husband and me needed to switch off mid induction (happy gas), I work nights and came straight from the hospital and he had to go to work. They let me come in, it did not disturb her at all, but WOW, did I get in trouble. I felt like a child all over again, I thought the girl at the front desk was going to ground me! I explained the situation to her and she told me that she got in trouble with Dr. Bhanji and so consequently (she did not state this) she was angry with me. I have a lot of experience working with families and children, 10 years in the medical field to be precise and know that this is not how you behave with families, especially in front of a scared, wide-eyed four year old. I returned to Dr. Bhanji to finish the work because my daughter tolerated the procedure just fine and I have to do what is best for her. Now I am left with a very sour taste in my mouth. Not sure what to do for routine cleanings with any of the girls now. An apology would have been nice. One hygenist/assistant (not sure which) who does the cleanings is amazing, I love the way she talks to the little kids, my girls just eat it up! read more

My children have been seeing this dentist for a number years. Although the office is fun, very child-friendly and geared toward children - it is not worth the price! We have routinely paid over what other dentists charge for routine dental care (i have researched this). She recently recommended a procedure that would have cost over $1200 out of pocket! In getting a second and third opinion, both other dentists thought her treatment plan was extreme and NOT at all necessary. We have now switched dentists. When I contacted Kidz Dental Haven office to request x-rays, I was not asked about why we were leaving - shows me she really doesn't need our business. I would have thought at least the receptionist would have shown a little more concern about our leaving the practice where we have been patients for over 10 years. The new staff brought on in recent years have not been as good with kids as when they initially opened in this new location. I have also found it very odd that they communicate via earphone/mouth piece - makes the office seem less personable overall. We are very happy with our new dentist in a less fancy office with good old personal care, reasonable rates and only getting care/treatment that is needed. read more
