I'm no snowflake so I was ok but with most ppl so nice in El Paso, it was just unexpected. Ambiance was ok. A level above hole in the wall. With all the Mexican food I've had in El Paso, this place was below average. The salsa Verde was my favorite song with the cheese enchilada. The tamal, I didn't eat most of it. The rice seemed old and if there was a microwave Mexican rice, that's the way I would expect it to taste. The beans were good but then again, I don't think you can find bad beans this close to Mexico. Writing the review, I've come to realize, I really only enjoyed the horchata and the salsa Verde. I have been here a few times. I feel their food is simple, pedestrian Mexican food. They serve those Hard tortillia chips with salsa which I'm not a fan of those real hard chips. But that salsa Is some avocado green puree spicy something you don't get anywhere else, it's savory with a kick. If Mexican food has umami , then this salsa has it. It's really good. I got the tacos hoping for crispy tacos. I got about half that. They fry their own shells from corn tortillas, but only on one side, then fold the other side over, add lettuce, a slice tomato and some white bold grated cheese. I had the ground beef but the alos offer Chicken. I think the cheese was so strong it overwhelmed the flavor of the beef. Maybe more beef in the taco or a milder cheese. I sampled the meat by itself and it was delicious but al together all you could tastes was cheese, I know I'm most cases more cheese is better, but in this case it overwhelmed the tacos. The rice was perfect, not sticky or gummy, but fluffy, flavorful individual grains. I added a cup of caldo de res but there was no meat in my cup, lots of carrots and other veggies. The broth was amazing. But my FAVORITE thing was the Charro Beans. Now when I order these normally I expect pintos with onions, tomatoes, jalapeno, cilantro, etc...this wasn't that. It was what tasted like slow cooked all day long pinto beans with pickled jalapeno and onions. And though there was no meat in mine, you could taste the seasoning or background of smoked porkiness like ham or hamhock, but there was no grease on the top. I loved these. I wish they had a piece of jalapeno cheddar cornbread to go with a bowl of them and id order that every cold winter day. It's not too busy I'm here on a Saturday afternoon. It's handicap accessible with ramps inside. And it seems like family home cooking. read more

Ordered a beer, came quick with a frosted mug (bonus points) accompanied by two salsa options and chips. The green one was delicious!!! I asked the waiter what it was and he said "green salsa" and then when I said I really like it! He responded with "I've Berber tried it" . The other salsa was a bit watery and had more jalapeños than tomatoes, but good enough. Chips...meh, not a fan of the thick cut chip. The food came out quick! Chicken enchiladas were pretty good...chicken was a little watery also, not sure if they maybe boil it? Regardless, I smothered it in that "geeen salsa" and devoured it...I hadn't eaten all day. Overall We ate here on 2/24/24. The food was okay, but the cashier was talking to another customer loudly and stated that Gov. Abbott should be pushed into the ocean and drowned. This is disgusting and unprofessional. She isn't being mindful of those that may be in eating there. She kept bad-mouthing Republicans. I will never eat here again. Taco Tuesday! Go to Dominguez! I loved it. I was visiting from out of town and I wanted some tacos. They have a special for dollar tacos. They are crispy tacos and had great flavor. The tortilla soup is also very flavorful. On this particular night it was a little cold so the tortilla soup warmed me up. Nice looking place with established clientele. The personnel are customer friendly. The restrooms very clean at the back of the main dinning room floor. The kids ordered chicken strips and cheese burgers. Wife had Tacos Desebrada and I had Rib Eye with eggs. The kids meals are what can be expected in a traditional Mexican restaurant. The Desebrada tacos were ok and what is expected nothing fabulous. The meat was flavorless yet it had some flavor added with the red salsa. The eggs were overcooked with a very hard yolk. This place was another blast from my past. Rewind allllllll the way to the late 1980's and there was no mall on the west side of El Paso. To do any decent kind of shopping you had to truck across town to Bassett Center (since demolished, thank god) or Cielo Vista Mall. Well back then when my family would make those treks across town, one of our favorite places to eat was Dominguez. Fast forward twenty-five years and it hasn't changed a bit, and is still one of the best Mexican places in town. Again, perhaps I am not quite as impressed as I was in my youth, but still really good food. Service: 4/5 This was perhaps the only poor spot on our meal. Our server seemed very distracted throughout our time there. Getting his attention was very difficult, as was getting refills for our drinks, which was kind of necessary because their salsa is a bit on the warm side. Which is fine! I love a good, strong salsa. But I need a tall glass of water to go with it, you know? Food: 5/5 Yes it was every bit as good as I remember, perhaps even better now that I will eat things I wouldn't when I was a kid! Coming here in my youth pretty much all I would eat is their rolled tacos (flautas) and yes, those are still good. But this time I availed myself of the combination plate with a folded taco, enchiladas, and tamale. It was all excellent. My wife opted for beef fajitas, and those were also great. The meat had a seasoning on them that was just the tiniest bit sweet. It was a taste I hadn't really expected from fajitas, but very good. And as mentioned, the salsa is great. It is hot, but it has flavor to go with the heat. Far too often at Mexican restaurants, you find salsa that is either little more than ketchup, or flaming hot with no semblance of flavor. Dominguez's salsa is neither of these. Overall Impressions: 4/5 The place has hardly changed a bit in the last twenty years. The old jukebox is still in the same corner it was in, although it is out of service these days. That's why I'm taking the star away. Get that thing working again! Every time we used to come here we'd drop some quarters in there and get it to play "Old El Paso." Other than that, you can hardly tell a difference between now and when I first stepped in there. Which in this case is a good thing. The atmosphere is homey, comfortable, and pleasant. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Living an hour away, we won't find ourselves here very often.
