I can't believe this was the first time I've had food from this place. I would definitely come back again, but WiFi's beat the crowd. This was a great plate lunch in the Kilauea area. I stopped here after visiting the Kilauea Lighthouse and it was exactly what I was craving. The chicken was flavorful and tender. After being seriously let down by a poke bowl at another spot in Princeville, this place totally redeemed my day. and shoutout to the guy working the counter too. I ordered the sesame tuna poke and it was so fresh and flavorful. I added kimchee cucumbers, shoyu jalapeños, and seaweed salad, and every topping was fire. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The setup is simple but done right. Inside is small, just enough room to check out the deli case and place your order. Water, utensils, and sauces are conveniently set up to the left. Outside is where you want to eat. They've got a chill outdoor seating area with a few bar-height tables plus picnic benches along the side of the patio. For the quality and portion size, it's absolutely worth the price. We were in Princeville during our visit to Hawaii, and were interested in trying some delicious Hawaiian Poke nearby. Kilauea Fish Market looked to be an interesting pick as it seems to be highly rated by both locals and island visitors alike. We went on a Friday around dinnertime (6pmish) and got our order quickly. The restaurant itself is located in a shopping plaza - there are plenty of spots for many cars to park, and I can't see it filling up even during meal rush hours. Service is fast and casual, you first go in to place your order at the register, then you stand by, and then they will call your name and you can pick up your order and seat yourself. The only seating options are outside the restaurant, as the interior only has ordering - There are about 10-15ish seats right outside. Since we ordered poke, we got our order almost instantly - I did notice it could take up to 10-15 minutes to get your order if you order any of the other options on the menu. I got the poke plate for $18 - they had a tuna option for the day. The poke was decent, the fish tasted fresh and had a pleasant kick of spices. There were also some strands of onion to give a more varying texture. The food and service were good. I just think that the price was the thing the turned me the most after receiving the food. In my opinion, charging $18 for a singular scoop of poke with rice is very steep - I didn't walk away from this meal feeling a quarter full. I know that it could be better too, I was able to try other poke places on Kauai and was able to get more variety and even 1-2 more scoops of fish for the exact same price. In the end, the food was decent, but if I am in the Princeville area and want some poke, I might try and visit a different establishment. The steep prices for getting what easily accessible and iconic dish of Hawaii turned me away, but if you are really craving it, it will fill that need in a pinch. read more

Thank goodness the food here is fantastic. The service, well, everyone has a bad day sometimes, right? We had grilled shrimp plate and grilled Ahi plate. While others were getting their food, especially the folks who ordered AFTER we did, we sat and waited. Waited some more. Then even more. Finally we went in to ask where I food was. Turns out the grill cook was struggling to properly grill orders. We were told 15 more minutes. This was on top of the 40 minutes we'd already waited. About 20 minutes later our food was ready, sort of. Between the time we ordered and when we got our food they ran out of an item we were supposed to get. Bad form. We got a lackluster apology. No offer of a discount or small comp dessert or even a can of tea. Just a weak "sorry". As stated at the top, thank goodness for the food. Otherwise this place would get a 2 star review, maybe even 1 star, due to the lack of concern for our order. I guess being a tourist, in a tourist centric area is a bad thing. While staying in Kauai we are here three times out of our one week stay! It was close to where we were staying and it was just SO GOOD! We had no complaints whatsoever the ingredients were fresh and the meat/chicken was flavorful also the ahi tasted like it was freshly fished that morning! They have the communication on point! We placed pick up orders and If they are out of anything they call you immediately so you can make a change. We ordered two plates of the Kalbi short rib plate and they only had enough for one so they asked what we wanted to substitute for the other half and we chose the teriyaki chicken! Again so good and that should be a menu item lol half and half also their potato/Mac salad!!! Out of this world! Every time we went to pick up our food it was very busy! The tuna here is some of the best quality on the island! Fresh buttery tuna poke was soft and not fishy at all (the way it should be). It also didn't have any unchewable pieces which I've unfortunately experienced many times from other places. The poke here doesn't even compare to the poke at Foodland that everyone swears by for some reason. We also ordered one tuna taco, an ono taco, and a tuna wrap (which they are apparently famous for). The guy asked us if we wanted our tuna rare, seared, medium, or well done. We got medium for both the taco and wrap. Unfortunately, they undercooked the tuna in the wrap so it was more like seared and the way they prepared it just didn't taste very good. The wrap also consisted of a lot of rice and lacked good flavor. The tuna in the taco however was cooked medium and was very yummy. The tuna taco was significantly better than the ono. It had way more flavor and a softer, more satisfying texture, whereas the ono was firmer and more plain tasting. The cream served with the tacos was so so good and the taco portion was big which I was happy about since each taco was $9. I wish their tortillas and toppings were better quality to match the quality of the fish so it would compliment it better (you can tell they use low quality shredded cheese, pre-cut cabbage, and store bought tortillas that lack real flavor). The guy working the front wasn't very friendly as he didn't smile at all, but he wasn't rude so I'll take what I can get. We come here every time we are on Kauai and we'll be back next year for our 5th annual trip! read more

Atmosphere: Tight ordering and pick up space, but they have a decently sized, covered, outdoor dining area for you to take advantage of the Hawaii weather. Service: Outstanding. The guy was very helpful and seamlessly taking care of the long line and take out orders - all with a smile and true Aloha spirit. Very glad we got to have dinner here on the way to check out the sunset at the Hanalei Bay during summer trip. The place looked big from the outside, but inside was just a counter service with mainly patio seating outside. The sauce that came with the fish was like a mayo soy sauce type, which didn't do much. I think the fresh fish can be complemented better with maybe a garlic butter type sauce? Or just pour on some of the existing crack flavoring that was in the fish tacos, lol. - Poke Plate = being all about poke during the trip, of course had to get it here too, spicy ahi. The rice was not sushi rice, which doesn't help the poke meal, but... *** This place had the absolute BEST QUALITY ahi poke on the island!!! Such a pleasure to bite through the fresh super smooth ahi pieces with that buttery oily texture to the flesh. No unpleasant or chewy pieces at all... But the plate was not enough poke, and since it's not sushi rice, you end up not eating much rice and thus don't get filled up from this plate. But that fish quality and freshness, wow. Could not leave the place without getting some more, so went back in to get poke by itself. Poke price was a shocker, the highest I've seen at $40/lb!!! But what can you say when it's the best freshest and best ahi quality on Kauai? Had to get another 1/2 lb. They were out of it at the counter, but they were able to get another tray from the back. I wanted spicy ahi again but the tray was regular so they just gave sauce on the side. We ate that poke up fast to the very last piece. Best quality, absolutely zero chewy pieces. It's pricey, but you get the fish quality you pay for here. They must trim the ahi perfectly to avoid having any of those sinews or chewiness to the pieces, so maybe the price was ok considering you ate 100% of the pieces without having to spit out a tough piece, lol. They are well staffed but they prepare everything fresh to order so any wait time is expected. It takes time to cook it right and they do just that. Stopped for dinner since it looks to be well liked. Arrived at 7:20pm and there was a long line of people waiting to be served. Workers seemed frantic and unable to keep their composure while dealing with a large volume. When I asked about the line, the worker said "it's the only thing open around here." Took about 20 minutes just to wait in line and order. Place is small and the line was very cramped. We ordered two fish taco plates and ordered the side of beans which the menu indicated to be $3. He rung it up as $4.99. I pointed out on the menu where it says $3. He tried again and it came out as $3.99, shrugged and said "that's how it comes up." To avoid slowing down the line I didn't make a fuss. However, I have a disdain for establishments that charge more than they state in writing. Waited a long time for the food, which is okay as they are busy. No restroom. They told me that there is a restroom across the street but that it is locked right now. Seriously? No toilet/washroom? Food arrives. Fish is good quality and tastes fresh. Taco is bland...too much shredded cheese (and not good quality shredded cheese). No spice available such as salsas. Sriracha bottle on the table...yeah, no thanks, doesn't match and adds more sugar than heat. It's Asian ketchup. Side of beans were inedibly salty. Service, atmosphere and accommodations are poor. Food is ok, but nothing special. Overall, 3/5. Coming from southern California, where we have plenty of good fish and a large Mexican influence, good tacos are everywhere. This place wouldn't attract the attention it does in Kauai. Try to have a more customer-centric attitude, provide access to a restroom, and train staff to be more polite. And touch up those taco recipes with a bit more flavor...fish is the star and it's good, but needs a better supporting cast. read more
