We were taking a walk on Canal close by our hotel one evening, (one very hot evening) and our friends came upon this place. Just looking inside you knew that it had to be good, especially since the line came out to the door [but moved very quickly.] You must pass the spot where they are creating lots of cookies, covered apples and what ever else they know will be delicious as you walk in. By the time you get to the counter, you are ready!!! Very long and the walls are covered with all these magnificant candies, cookies and fudge balls, and anything else sweet. We all came here with he express desire for ice cream and they have plenty from which to choose. They offer a multitude of cones and Sundays. I went simple with a pistachio cone while my wife had a cup of vanilla. The ice cream was delicious.... tasty and creamy... just perfect. We ate inside as this would not have lasted a minute in the outside heat. When we came back the next night I still had a cone and I bought my wife the chocolate covered strawberries. OMG! The ice cream and caramel popcorn are so good. This Kilwins is located right on the corner. It was two or three stores down from the hotel I was staying at. So many goodies, including fudge; chocolate covered graham crackers; chocolate covered strawberries; chocolate covered cherries; caramel apples; bagged candy and chocolates; and taffy. I cannot name them all. However, they make all the goodies in house. Every time I would walk into this place, there was a long, uncut piece of fudge on the table. I purchased a small bag of popcorn ($6.99) on my first visit. It was so good. High quality caramel makes all the difference. My mouth is watering reminiscing about it now. Second visit, I ordered a scoop of chocolate chip ice cream in a cup. The chocolate chips are huge. Again, high quality. The line was long, but didn't take too long. Service is friendly and efficient. After I received my scoop, I paid at the register right next to the ice cream counter. The ice cream is near the back. Third visit, I ordered a scoop of chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone and a larger bag of caramel corn. As you can tell by the number of times I visited, I love what they're selling! It smells divine, walking in. The interior is the typical ice cream and treat parlor. There is limited seating, so I ate my purchases either in or on the way to the hotel. read more

This joint on Canal was not there last year so as I walked across the street from the CBD, I decided to check it out. This has got something for aeveryone - a sort of Willy Wonka goes wild in Nola. The staff was not sure of what was gluten-free or not and I was ready to walk out when one of the Young servers handed me a book which listed the ingredients in the fudge. It was a very long book, but once I saw the pecan praline fudge, I decided to buy a slab. I ate a little bit walking around, but it was rather gooey so I saved it and took it back to my hotel where I put it in the refrigerator and ate it the next two nights when I wanted something a little sweet. I love Kilwins. Willy Wonka eat your heart out. Kilwins has everything you want to satisfy your sweet tooth. The lemon meringue ice cream will bring me back. I purchased the Turtle Fudge and this is the worst fudge I've ever tasted. I love fudge, but this tasted old. Not sure how it could be old though because it is surrounded by businesses, tourists and business seems to be steady. This was recommended by a friend, but there are other places with much better fudge. Perhaps this location is good for ice cream or something, but surely this CAN NOT be the great fudge I've heard of. Perhaps I did get an old batch or an unpopular flavor so it had been sitting. The worker tried giving me the very last remainder of a damn near empty ice cream container that wouldn't have been sufficient to fill a regular cup; it would've been shavings lol. I appreciate him maybe trying to get me the flavor I wanted but I opted for something else that I could get a full scoop of. I stopped by Kilwin's several times during my trip, and this location on Canal Street is super convenient. While they offer chocolates and pralines--which, judging by the line, seem to be a hit--I only tried the ice cream. And let me tell you, on a hot Louisiana afternoon? This ice cream absolutely hit the spot. Even in the cooler evenings, it was just as good. Every flavor we tried was incredibly creamy and packed with flavor.
