I walked in thinking this would be a cute little ice cream parlor. While I didn't recognize the name- the napkins described the vast numbers of stores they had... with only 2 in Missouri. Actual ice cream in tubs in freezers. Waffle cones to choose like it was 1904. Ice cream cakes for larger get-together. The friendly ladies dipped the internal of my cone to line the cone with chocolate. This added to the chocolate fudge ice cream. I gulped down this cone surprisingly fast and freaked out the 10 year old we were with. Luckily they provided restrooms to clean myself after my gorging. I walked away a fan. I also wondered why nobody put one of these by Forest Park or on Laclede's Landing to tie in 1904 World's Fair. I do enjoy St Charles Main Street and the ability to bring nostalgic places like this. This place is amazing! Stepping through the doors I like taking a step back in time where candy was hand made with love and care. The space is nostalgic, reminding me of ice cream parlors and candy stores from my childhood. There are display cases with their beautiful confections. They have just about anything you could want. The standout for me were these gorgeous oversized candy apples! Multiple different toppings and flavor combinations. They honestly look too pretty to eat. The store has a small kitchen area up front. I'm not sure if they use this space for making candy, but it appears fully functional. There is a small seating area towards the back of the store. They also have exceptionally clean bathrooms! Our visit that day was specifically for ice cream. They have a fantastic selection with multiple flavors to choose from. There was a small line, but the team was able to take care of our orders promptly. I went with a scoop of peaches and cream on a sugar cone. This was perfection! Rich and creamy with a nice balance of vanilla and generous chunks of juicy peach. My only complaint, is that I should have ordered a double scoop! There were four people in our group and we all tried a different flavor. Everyone gave their flavor five stars. If you're walking down Main Street, I highly recommend you stopping to enjoy a treat, and grab a few things to take home! read more

I have visited the Kilwins in St. Charles several times now. This corner store on Historic Main Street has both a front and back entrance. This location has indoor seating. Kilwins is a great place to get a special candy treat for a friend, family member, or co-worker. This store sells Candies, Fudge, Carmel Apples, and Ice Cream. I have gotten the Turtle Fudge and been very impressed. The Turtle Fudge is Chocolate Fudge with Nuts and Carmel. They make their fudge on site. I also like their Cappuccino Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. The Ice Cream flavor is deep and rich throughout the entire serving. The Waffle Cone is a perfect vessel for Kilwins Ice Creams. Even as the store gets crowed, the employees remain helpful and polite. read more

I didn't realize Kilwins was a chain until I stumbled across one in New Orleans. This is a charming location in the Main Street Historic District. The decor fits the area (I do believe the one in New Orleans had a more 'modern' vibe). They have a bit of a patio out back. That's the place to sit if the weather is nice. The staff are friendly and I've never had bad service here. The ice cream is billed as being 'super-premium'. It's certainly priced that way. They enhance the experience, are always good (A+ here), and you get to walk around exploring with it after ordering. Opted for the Missouri River Mud after finding ourselves taking a muddy Katy Trail detour along the MO River earlier that day...it felt fitting. This ice cream was so good, as most ice cream is. It's thick, homemade, and overall about as good as it gets. We appreciated them being open somewhat late (just before 9 p.m.) on a Sunday night so we could get our fix, and highly recommend trying them out. read more

It's clean, well managed, and their caramel apples are one of my very favorite desserts, even if few would consider them a proper dessert. Don't let the $8 price scare you - they're huge and smothered in homemade caramel and pecans, with what seems like a dusting of powdery salt. There are other toppings but this is my go-to. I'm no apple aficionado but they are a green variety that isn't too tart and perfect every time. So I know yelp review aren't supposed to be value based but my point is this. My family and I were enjoying a Christmas experience in Old St. Charles last week. It was cold and we all wanted a nice cup of hot chocolate. For the 4 of us, i spent just shy of 30 bucks and all we got was a large batch of warm chocolate out of an igloo cooler. It didn't taste any different than a Swiss mix. It isn't as much the money but for that kind of money, I'd have expected gourmet service and a great tasting HOT chocolate. I got the peanut butter pie one and talk about a mouth full of peanut butter-y deliciousness. I can't wait to have some more again. My friend also got something that he really enjoyed. They also make their waffle cones fresh, which is delicious. I love me a fresh waffle cone and would come again for just that. The staff was super friendly that night I was there. They were very understanding as it was prom night. The other thing that is great is that this place is open late. A lot of places on Main St close early which sucks.
