I am so glad this place exists in Salem. This family-run Vietnamese hole-in-a-wall restaurant offers authentic Vietnamese dishes. The way they season their grilled pork really takes me back to my childhood days growing up in Vietnam. Their pho broth is clear and not too fatty nor salty. Pictures here are Bánh Hoi (fine vermicelli) and Pho. I love how much side vegetables that come with each order. Their prices are very affordable as well and I love hearing the family speak to each other in Vietnamese. We were passing by and need to stop to get something to eat. We randomly look up food nearby and this place showed up. We ordered pho and grill beef with rice. For drink we got the Vietnamese Coffee with condensed milk hot. The pho was really good. The broth was clear but flavorful; not greasy. The grill beef was alright. It would be a five star if the beef had a little more flavor and not so chewy. The coffee was good. The restroom was clean. We appreciate that. The customer service was good. read more

Decent vietnamese in salem and I'm being nice. Compared to others in the area, their broth is ok, Clay pot dishes is a hit or miss. Their fish isn't fresh, frozen fish so their soups and Clay pot option is a no go. Boba drinks is powdered and not fresh, feel like vietnamese spots around here or Asian restaurant in general go the powder route and not fresh... so super generic fake fruit taste if you're into that. Meat ratio is little to none or sliver thin. Food is just whatever tbh. The owner isn't pleasant. Being from Salem there was many choices growing up for Vietnamese food. Luckily Kim Huong existed and it has always provided great food. It is super cozy inside and the owners and staff will always make sure you are happy. The Pho is what I usually go for but recently I decided to try the Banh Mi. Let me tell you it was really good. I have always loved Best Baguette in Portland and it was a relief to have something almost as good in Salem. I almost always get Pork but this time I got Beef and it was so tender and flavorful. It was also on the spicier side because of the raw Jalapeños and seasoning pepper. The only thing that I disliked was the fact that now I have to choose between Pho and Banh Mi... My daughter in law took me to get some pho after a grueling 90 minute workout. I'd driven by this restaurant numerous times and I don't know why I never stopped in before. I ordered #12 Pho with rare slices of beef and she got the beef pho with meatballs and an order of what Oregonians call egg rolls (we, from Hawaii, call them spring rolls). The pho was delicious and served at a perfect temperature. Some pho restaurants serve it a little on the warm side and that ruins it for me for the temp was perfectly hot. Broth and noodles were perfect! I'm not crazy about their egg rolls though. The filling was too creamy in texture and I prefer more veggies. I don't know why it was orange-y and slightly creamy. They've befriended my 3 year old daughter and always shower her with friendly conversation and even gifted her a pair of child's chopsticks, which she learned how to use while eating here!!! A nice family restaurant. We wanted pho and usually just have to go to Portland. We've tried two other places in salem without satisfaction. I had the shrimp rolls and Lynette had tofu rolls. They were fresh and the peanut sauce was basic and exactly what we wanted. I had the pho with meatballs and she had tofu in the beef broth. Next time she'll ask if there is a vegetable broth. Everything was fresh and the servers were pleasant and responsive. Because the decor was clean but nothing special i can't offer more than 4 stars. My favorite pho place in Salem! I love the shrimp salad rolls, the pho with flank and tripe, beef marinated in lemon, the pork vermicelli.... Been coming here for years and have taken my visitors from out of town here too! Portions are excellent, service is polite and friendly, seems family owned and warm gentle atmosphere... Super good pho I went with a rare beef and brisket sooo much flavor . My husband got the brisket pho . We both got Togo and they give you the noodles and topping separate from broth so it doesn't get soggy. Broth was extra hot so when we go home was still nice and hot to cook the rare beef. So I am a large fan of all things pho. I have been to many, many of these places, some of course are better than others. Typically these places are not in the most up to date or shiek parts of town. This place is in fact a true reflection of the statement above. In fact, if you are not looking closely you would think you are either going into a bar, or entering a grocery store in a local community. Sandwiched in between is Kim Huong. The menu is your standard fare that you would find at almost any pho restaurant. Before you know it, your ordered variety is put pipping hot in front of you for your consumption. I typically get the full meal deal, of course less tripe and tendon. Just something that I don't think that I will ever get used to. However the fatty brisket, regular brisket, meatballs along with the noodles and the savory broth, make this place a great little gem. I will have to try other items on their menu the next time that I am back in town, as the experience that I had here was quick, tasty and satisfying. Lacking flavor and depth. We also, tried a chow menu that I have had many time at other Vietnamese restaurants. It was no where near the same flavor. We should have walked out the minute we walked in. In an attempt to take my mother out for a decent lunch we came here. Upon walking in with my service dog in a marked service dog vest I was told he couldn't be there..violating ADA federal law. After changing their mind they put us in a corner table away from all other guests that was lacking silverware. It took over 10 mins for anyone to make contact with us for any type of order. The appetizer came out after my meal and they were burnt in old oil that smelled. I had to ask twice for my drink order that came after 75% of my lunch was consumed. Customer service continued to be poor. They never checked on us, I had to get my own silverware and after the food was delivered they only came back to deliver the check. At no time was my service dog an issue, he laid under the table quietly as he's supposed to. Between the service dog access issue and the old oil that made the (burnt) food stink rancid we will never be back. read more
