I got a layered haircut along with a Korean C-curl perm, which is a very common style in Korea, and I was so happy to find a salon that offers it. Anna was amazing from start to finish. She was incredibly thorough, attentive, and took the time to explain every step of the process while making sure I was comfortable throughout the appointment. You can tell she genuinely cares about her clients and takes pride in her work. I'm so happy with how my hair turned out--it has so much movement and is easy to style. I had the best hair cut since moving back to the 626 area by Nicole. I hadn't had a hair cut in almost a year. My head felt heavy and my hair would become greasy even after the day I wash it. I like the general look and esthetics of this salon, everything was very modern and stations were all very clean. Kim was an excellent stylist. I showed her pictures of the cut and overall look I wanted. I have to say she did a better job than the pictures I showed her. I have to say this is probably one of the best haircuts I've received ever. I was so happy with the final result. I love my new curls. I wish I can give so many more stars!!! I am so beyond happy to have found Nicole. I found her by yelping korean hair salons and looking at her past work, I decided to give it a try. There was a picture of her business card with her number so she is available by text if that's easier for anyone else like me. The whole process was super fast!! It took maybe about 2 hours but I expected longer since my hair was a hot mess and I assumed there would be a lot to be done. She's very kind and gently provides her suggestions to you. Some hair stylists don't really care how my bang looks like, they just cut it shorter, but Lauren takes time to make sure my bang looks perfect, she tried her best to covered my defect, and explained why she did that for me. Stopped coming here after several years. They started getting really pushy with making appointments and would give me annoyed looks if I walked in for a hair cut. I usually had a preferred stylist but the last time I came here because I needed an emergency haircut and I didn't make an appointment, they sent me away because they recognized me and said my stylist wasn't in and that I should come back some other day. I was overdue for a haircut so I decided to come here. I've actually been going to this other Japanese salon, but wanted to try a new place. There's a sign "Since 1958" (if I remember correctly) so I thought this place seemed promising. First of all, shampooing - it was just ok. I know some places that will massage your head and all that stuff, but I didn't really expect much here. I only got shampoo-ed once here, instead of double-shampooing, but again no problem. Then I was set up with a stylist whose name is mentioned often here. First of all, she was wearing one of those Bluetooth headset around her neck. I prepared a picture of the hairstyle that I wanted on my phone and she quickly followed through. Chop chop chop, she went through my hair very fast! Then she went ahead to blow-dry my hair before doing more chopping. During the blow dry, she accepted a phone call. I was thinking to myself, what a super woman... Master of multitasking! And good hearing too because the hair dryer was kinda loud. So my appointment was only about 40 minutes long, which I thought was super quick! My appointment to the other Japanese salon is usually 1.5 hours or longer. The haircut here costs half the price of the Japanese salon too, so it makes sense! But wait a second! When I got home and inspected my hair, I noticed two things majorly wrong: 1. I chose an angled bob haircut, but unfortunately the edge of my haircut is not even. On my right side, there's still some long hair jutting out (look at my pic). It's sorta embarrassing! 2. I wanted a bang. My hair is parted to one side. However the stylist forgot to cut my bang on one side of my head. So I completely have no bang on one side.... argh!! In conclusion I think I would definitely come back to my regular Japanese salon even though the price is double and the appointment takes longer. Quality wins!! read more

Hope this 1 star will get management's attention! ***** 5 stars for my stylist Kimberly! She was super sweet and professional! But oh my goodness, this 1 star is for the hair wash/assistant lady. I've never come across someone who did such a bad job in hair washing and blow drying. (She poked my eye!.....) 1. When I laid down, she threw a towel on my face and it messed up my make up. The water was freezing cold then super hot, never asked if the temperature was okay for me. During shampooing, she BARELY touched my scalp! Just lathered, and let the shampoo bubble, didn't massage or scratch at all (my scalp was left so itchy!). She was very rough during rinsing and splashed water all over my face (by this point all my make up was smudging..). When she was done and I sat up, she left my soaking hair dripping down my back while she went to get a dry towel to wrap. 2. During blow drying, halfway she left to tend to another client (which is fine, they were busy), but she threw the blow dryer on the floor! Then the next thing that happened is what really urged me to write this review... while she was blow drying she wasn't paying attention, her eyes were wandering around looking at other things, then her finger poked into my eye. It hurt so much but she didn't even acknowledge it. I really liked my haircut and my stylist, and I would LOVE to come back, but I really don't think I will if this assistant lady is still there... I'm so traumatized. Hope management will do something about it, because they really are a good salon. read more

I've always wanted to get a perm for change. I have the typical asian hair, fine, straight and doesn't hold curls. And I've been soo curious about digital perm. After praying so hard, I got the courage and decided to give it a try today. (after researching and reading mixed reviews too) It wasn't a busy day when I came to the salon (thursday at 2 pm). As soon as I got in and told them I'd like to have my hair permed, a nice petite short(blonde) haired lady (i forgot to ask for her name) to keep my purse on a secured place (so i dont have to carry it with me all the time)and walked my by the shampoo station. After washing my hair, she asked me if I have pictures with me of what kind of curls do I want. Showed her pictures of ladies with big soft curls, she told me that those curls are not "permed" curls but rather curling iron curls. I asked them for their recommendation if I want a curl closer to those looks. Jennifer looked at my long hair and the pictures, then said if I want big loose curls, SETTING PERM would give better results than Digital Perm (this is good for shorter hair and if you like small curls). But she has to cut my hair first (because I have an inch of color treated hair on the ends). $130 (setting perm and haircut). Jennifer cut my hair and helped in putting the rollers and attached it to the machine. But the nice petite lady was the one who did the whole perm shabang hehe. They were pretty good and professional. They speak english clearly and overheard them speaking spanish too to their hispanic co worker which I think was awesome! Their salon was clean and their restroom too! It took 2 to 2 1/2 hrs for the whole process (haircut and perm). It was nice of her to massage my scalp after the whole process while washing my hair for the last time. She gave me tips on how to dry my hair and how to maintain the curls. After years of $100 hair cuts from overpriced salons, I decided to go to Yelp for someplace new. I called this morning around 10:30 AM and was able to make an afternoon appointment. There was a bit of a language barrier with the male stylist who answered the phone, but it all worked out. I arrived for my appointment and saw that they were rather busy with only two stylists and around 4-5 clients. Turns out there were 2 stylists sick today. Anyways, I waited for about 10 minutes before the assistant was available to wash my hair. This was probably the lowest point of my experience here because she was extremely rushed and gave a not so great hair wash. However, once I was seated, Kathy Bak apologized for the slow service and took her time cutting my hair. As the only non-Korean there, she quickly put me at ease. I just wanted long layers and my bangs trimmed, which is exactly what she did. I love that she kept the length (which was my first priority) unlike most stylists that go a little crazy with the scissors. She even styled and curled my hair after cutting it and only charged me the standard $25 rate. Needless to say, me and my wallet came out of the salon quite happy! Pros: - You go in an out ( most of the time within an hour or a little bit over if you're a girl. For guys, I would say, half that time) - $25 for a haircut+ wash . I had long hair full of split ends, with half dead perm that was in dire need of a trim (mid-back length) +5 tip=$30?! What a deal! - Walk-ins are welcomed! Cons: - Expect to wait. Well, so far out of my 2 visits, I've waited. My most recent one, I made an appointment at 2pm and wasn't attended to until 20 minutes later where I finally got my hair washed. My stylist, Eric was busy cutting a few boy's hair, which I knew wouldn't take as long, but still?! If you know you won't be able to commit to the set appointment it'd be nice to know ahead of time so that I didn't have to sit, wait and read tabloids until my mind was cluttered with drama filled celebrity stories. After I was seated with my hair dripping wet, Eric further assisted cutting other customer's hairs. Really now??? *shakes finger in a pendulum motion* I found that pretty rude when he should've been assisting me as I had waited for almost 40 minutes at the point of being seated in front of his presence. 3 pros and 1 con. If you are patient, I say give this place a go. I've come here for a few months now, and each time ive had my hair cut by Lauren, I've always been very impressed. Their service for a mens hair cut is $25, but it's nice in that they wash your hair twice, once before the cutting and once towards the end. It makes for a great haircut knowing that you're hair feels great and there isn't a whole lot of loose hair flying around everywhere after the cut. Also, Lauren is awesome, shes always been very good and gives me exactly the style I want. The only thing is that there is a little bit of a language barrier, but even with that I've never had a problem. So if you have the time, come see the hair stylets here! I got my hair cut and colored here on Thursday. The cut came out choppy and the colour came out awful. I expressed several times while she was coloring exactly what I wanted, but the stylist insisted she knew better and continued to ignore my wishes. I asked for balayage and left the salon with brassy tiger stripes. I need to fix the colour but I'm scared of going back because I don't want them to make it look worse than it already does. read more

I got Lauren as my stylist. They double shampooed my hair in the beginning, and blew dry it. Like other reviewers said, they just make you do a wash. My hair is quite long and thick, so in order to make it dry faster the helper Lauren blow dry my hair. I asked for 2 inches of my hair to be cut off and layered in addition to bangs. She cut off 2 inches off my head and continued snipping as well. I think she cut off 3 inches in total. But, it was expected. My hair feels very nice now. All in all, it was 35 dollars for the haircut+ plus whatever tip you give. I would come here again since other places charge much more for a trim. P.S. they don't force you to talk to them, which I quite adored. read more
