I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place. Staff was so attentive and kind. They had all sorts of kimchee but they had ran out of pickled radish. The person behind the counter let me sample different kinds of kimchee. I don't know how authentic it was but it was certainly delicious. The place itself it not very big. They had a couple of snacks and noodles to one side. Most, if not all, were Korean. But the food. Oh man the food. They had freshly made japchae that day and I died on the inside because it smelled really good. I settled for an order of kimbap and it was delicious. The rice was brown, which I didn't think I'd like. But I devoured it when I got home. And it had a couple of piece of pickled radish on the side. I think it was only 4 bucks. Definitely recommend this place if you need kimchee or are craving some simple but delicious to go Korean food. read more

Don't you hate it when just one person and ruin your whole experience. One of the staff members wasn't to welcoming when you first walk in. It was my first time coming here and I heard amazing things. I wish I got to talk to possibly the chef because the food was amazing. read more

It's finally open! As a product of the owners of Little Dokebi and Dokebi, this is a great addition to the Greenpoint/LIC area. I personally find it a pain to haul myself to Ktown in Manhattan or the H-mart in Woodside for kimchi. SO. FAR. Now, ALL the banchan is available at Kimchee Market! Everything is made in-house. When I was there, I was allowed to sample more than 5 different kimchis and was given Korean roasted barley tea, "boricha" for free. There are the conventional spicy kimchis made of cabbage, radish, pickles, etc. They also offer seasonal ones! There was a non-spicy pickled carrot and radish version for the summer to beat the heat. There's also spicy anchovies, seasoned mushrooms, root vegetables, etc. I bought a box of kimchi radish and spicy anchovies, and they were both really fresh! Prices are comparable to buying the same in H-mart, but the grocery items (ramen, snacks, drinks) are kind of expensive as sold individually. They also offer lunch boxes and beef kimbap! read more

Terrible. Bi BimBap is nothing like traditional dish. It was like cheap stir fry and some wilted lettuce w/ big chunks of uncooked cabbage. I could of just ordered from the cheap Chinese restaurant downstairs for that. I was so surprised. I rarely write review but I'm so disappointed. You can't even call it BiBim Bap. The galbitang tasted ok but seriously its absurd the price points for this food that is just poor quality cheap takeout. read more

Soon they r having kimchi classes! they sell hot food now! (Here comes incorrect spelling) bokkeumbap aka pork fried rice- so good! And some pancake in spicy sauce w thick thick chubby chewy noodles. Ugh. So good. Overall, they make the food right there and then. It.s heavenly. The rolls are great and it comes w a tea that I want forever. The market packaged goodies are handy for when u r making Korean noodle type dishes. Their refrigerated vitrine has pickled assortments like the caramelized soy lotus root (I want a giant jar of this), cabbage in mul, the marinate bean sprouts... Etc etc... Great variety. It looks like a small shop but you can order food in there. I had Kimchee fried rice with pork three times in a week, haha! Fresh ingredients and my Korean friends said it's very good Kimchee! Food also comes with some small side dishes and sometimes, hot tea. read more

The worst care I have received in a long time. I am a frequent customer and today in search of my order, I found a red-haired lady with blue eyes who in a very bad way replied that my food would be ready at any moment after I told her that I had 35 minutes waiting. I was shocked by the way she said things about her. just at that moment a boy who makes deliveries also came in and his response was discriminatory. Limited review here. One night we stopped in to see what this place was all about. Having never had kimchi before we were excited to take part in the plethora of sampling they offer. We tried about 2/3 of all of the items they sell. Ended up taking home traditional Napa cabbage kimchi and garlic stems. We ended up using me these in some homemade kimchi and beef fried rice, YUMMY! Appallingly bad "customer service." And I have a pretty lenient attitude when it comes to customer service, having worked retail hell myself. I would almost never write a bad review on Yelp. I generally give businesses the benefit of the doubt, assume it was an off-day, etc. But this guy was so unbelievably rude to me today, I couldn't not speak up about it. Saw their sign while walking by the other day so I decided to check it out. Great lunch specials (discount if you pick it up). They have a similar menu to dokebi in Williamsburg as they are sister restaurants. I ordered the dumplings (so good) and also bought 20 frozen ones for 10 bucks! I'll definitely be back! read more

The BEST Korean food around! Every time I go in, I get a different dish and am working my way through their menu & all varieties of kimchee & pickled options. The staff is very patient and will explain the different options, including what they have at the peak of flavor at the moment. I've been able to explore beyond my favorites and found new favorites because of this. Consistently excellent whether you are getting the lunch bento boxes or the freshly made stews. My FAVORITE is the Pajeon pancake with kimchee! ;) Comfort food! read more

This place has been a hit or miss from me. First time the food tasted good which prompted me to order here again. This time, the flavors were completely off, didn't taste authentically Korean at all (this coming from a Korean). The galbi-jjim lacked flavor, tasted too much like soy sauce and came delivered in almost like a soup. Very strange. The kimbap was also really strangely made. It had huge chunks of raw carrot which I've never had in kimbap before. It threw everything off and made it really unpleasant to eat. The rest of the veggies did not have any flavor and the "bulgogi" just tasted like a piece of meat. No sweetness at all. The galbi we ordered did not taste like a galbi, which is supposed to have a sweet and charred bbq flavor. It also had no flavor whatsoever. Again, literally a piece of meat. Sides were ok, but the kimchi was definitely past its shelf life. Overly ripe/pungent. Just overall really disappointed with the delivery today. I'm not sure if they changed the cook or had someone inexperienced today. Almost felt like someone was "trying" to make Korean food but lacked the knowledge to do so properly. read more

Visited today and thought the kimbap was just ok - could use a bit more beef and was a bit too salty. I much prefer the kimbap at E-Mo on 32nd street in ktown (about $1-2 more than Kimchee Market, but also has more pieces, comes with a soup, and tastes better). They were also selling the Korean side dishes at extremely high prices, just go to ktown and you will be paying less than half that amount. I can't vouch for the taste since I didn't have any of the side dishes (because I would never pay that much for it). Aside from the food, I was told that there was a problem with the credit card machine so there is a $20 min for credit card use. Listen, I'm fine with paying cash if I don't meet the minimum, but just be upfront about it. If you have a problem with your credit card machine, minimums really don't matter, it either works or it doesn't. On top of that, after she told me this, as I was looking for cash, I saw a sign on the register that said credit card minimum was $10. Ok, whatever, I just know I won't be going back. read more

The food to pretty good - Not a whole lot of good Korean places so it's the closest thing you can get without trekking to ktown from Williamsburg. Food-wise it's a 4-star. However, there's a bipolar woman that works there, who definitely brings the ratings down. Myself and friends that live in the neighborhood who have all had experience with this girl who works there agree her horrible service (she's yelled at me over the phone for delivery + my friend as well) makes the service of this place a sad 0-star. Other than the woman who runs the register or deals with the delivery, who honestly should be fired for speaking to customers this way pretty frequently and has 0 customer service, this place is pretty ok. read more

This review is based solely on two things: kimchee and customer service. I am a huge fan of kimchee and Korean food so I was absolutely shocked when I saw this shop in Greenpoint. I walked in and was warmly greeted by one of the female associates. She was friendly, knowledgeable and gave me an overview of the business and the shop. I didn't try the food, but I bought some kimchee home to try. I can tell you that the kimchee is fantastic! I've been to many Korean restaurants and bought kimchee from the store before but this was really nicely pickled: not too much garlic and just enough spice to make it burn. Really proud to have this shop close by. Thanks for the excellent kimchee and customer service! Note that you save 20% off their food menu if you pickup your order as they save that percentage on outsourced delivery service. Will try that another time. FWIW - I grew up as an East Asian American (not Korean) and have eaten a lot of Asian food (think: FOB household). read more

A small neighborhood market just off McGuinness with Korean pantry items for purchase, or you can order their prepared food. Price is in the $$ range, however the authenticity and flavor is on point. The ban chan available for purchase is excellent as well. My only complaint is that the cook leaves a bit too early (around 5 i think) for me to be able to order for dinner without planning ahead. Nevertheless, being from Los Angeles, its good to know there is a solid option for quality Korean food in the Greenpoint neighborhood. read more

A wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Has amazing kimchee that is made on premise, ask for a taste and prepare for a world-wind tour of all that this particular food specialty has to offer. Don't stop there. The prepared food items are really good - you cannot go wrong with a pajeon or kimbap, and if you order a bibimbap you are in for a real feast. I love Kimchee Market. I go here pretty much every week since they've opened. This place has everything you need in terms of Korean food. Specialty ingredients, banchan and even stone pots to buy. My main criticism is, as soon as Kimchee Market started delivering via seamless etc the quality has gone down. Bento boxes use to be glorious, soups rich and basically as good as any soup you can get in Ktown. Now, they are pretty regularly forgetting extra items we order and the soups/stews are really watery and bland with just generic spiceyness to cover up flavor. Some weeks the quality will go back up and it will be awesome again. It really is a roll of the dice. This place could totally be an oasis in the food desert of Greenpoint, Brooklyn if they figured out their consistency issues. read more

Love this place. Really cool selection of Korean goods in here. Although I cant read the name because it is in another language, they have interesting snacks and outstanding Kimchee flavors. They also have bibimbap to go and other healthy Korean sides. This place is definitely a Brooklyn destination, a must try. Very unique. read more

This review is based solely on the kimbap I ate. I plan to return for other tasty treats. I ordered the bulgogi kimbap and it was one of the best I've had in NYC. The very best, I say sadly, are made in Southern California. I travel to Murray Hill, Queens, for my Korean staples but this place has great kimbap. The proportion of rice to filling is important and they've got it right. I will update with another review once I return and try other menu items. Very promising. read more

Ordered some wings and miso soup from seamless tonight and I actually think this was the worst seamless order I've ever had. The wings are soggy and just taste like cheap hot sauce, the edamame is tasteless, the soup was cold and was literally JUST BROTH no tofu or seaweed just broth, even the bottled coke is warm! How could literally every aspect of the order be bad?? And on top of all of that it took an hour and a half to be delivered? No thank you. Skip this place at all costs. $45 and I had to throw it all out. read more

Five stars for the entrees. But 2 stars for the miso soup. What gives?? I paid $6 for just liquid -- no tofu, no greens, nothing. That being said, their sides are delicious as ja their seafood soup. I'll definitely keep ordering from here, but not the miso soup. read more

I went to the Kimchee Market really excited to buy delicious Korean food. I went to Little Dokebi a couple of times and learned that they had a market connected to the restaurant. I was really looking forward going but am not in Brooklyn too often. I was in the area the other day, not recognizing I was close but once I realized it I headed in that direction. Not only was I greeted warmly by the owner, each of my questions was answered carefully and thoroughly. AND they have VEGAN kimchee! It was an awesome experience. I left with food for my belly and kindness for my heart (yeah I am pretty cheesy). More than anything I really appreciated the conversation with the owner and being treated with genuine care. I will be back for more kimchee and tofu! read more

This took place September 12, 2018 around 9pm So, I placed an order through the app caviar... And there was a problem with the order when it got delivered to me. So, I called kimchee Market first. However, I started speaking Korean under the assumption that whomever would answer the phone would be a Korean individual. Well, that was not the case - the person who answered the phone that night should never have just hung up on me because he didn't understand me. He should have made an effort to actually stop me and tell me he did not understand what I was saying so that I could just switch to English and speak to him again. I called back right after he hung up on me and I explained this to him and I did tell him nicely because he didn't know. No matter whether or not it was an oversight on his part... that is just basic protocol of being in the service industry that you have to treat customers - whether or not you know they're customers yet - with some modicum of consideration. Once we had that cleared up he immediately just shut down his customer service skills. Because I was calling to complain about a dish that literally does not meet what the dish is in any way shape or form. What should have been the equivalent of a brazing thick liquid with waves of finger sucking umami was essentially a bland and greasy soup. Not even a stew but a soup. And when I explained this to him he just did not understand how it was a problem. Because he kept thinking that I was saying oh it was just not cooked well. No. It just wasn't what it says it is on the menu. So either they cooked the wrong thing or they don't have the correct recipe or they were just being lazy. And as I finished that part of the explanation about how that dish is not what it says it is he immediately just cuts me off and tells me that "oh I just started a couple weeks ago and I don't do any of the cooking and I'm not a manager and since it came through caviar you have to complain through them since I can't help you" But my point was not about trying to complain... My point was to try to inform them that that had happened and that I wanted a redelivery. And, yes, I know the redelivery has to be processed through caviar but it's just a basic thing a person does to inform the restaurant that they ordered from about a problem with the order. I don't care whether or not you decide to shut down because someone called you out for doing the wrong thing by hanging up on them because you didn't understand what they were saying. It does not give you further validity in any way shape or form or justification to treat the customer even worse after the fact. I understand that this is a small establishment and they only borrow the name Dokebi from the actual restaurant - which is actually pretty good - but you need to actually make the things you say that you are making on that menu and really really really need to improve your customer service skills. And just to add to everything else, only two dishes of the seven that I ordered actually tasted decent. read more
