Randomly discovered Chingoo while looking for a casual dinner option nearby Brooklyn Steel, and were so blown away by our dinner. We got a variety of bites along with some soju to fuel some dance floor boogie-ing, including Pa Dak (which was essentially fried chicken), Kimchi Fries, and Seafood Pancake. Used to live in neighborhood and would love coming here. I would always come in when it rained for a spicy tofu stew. The soon doo boo chigae is so delicious, it's rich and spicy and all around tasty. Service is really fast and patient, and the atmosphere is very relaxed and casual. read more

Been here a few times, as a group, one on one, and solo. Fairly consistent, especially the bibimbap, and prices are fairly reasonable. It's not the typical k town crowded feel with the grills and all the works but more of a mom and pop shop that is actually quite common in Korea. One bummer is there isn't really a spread of different banchan, only a side of kimchi, which is uncommon for Korean spots and a bit of a bummer. The galbi was particularly tasty and good for sharing as was the pancake. Service is decent but it's a small enough spot that you can easily flag someone if you need anything. read more

Our experience at Chingoo is a good one. Despite the funky smell when we first walked in, the food are delicious and fresh. Our favorite is the seafood pancake. It is a must order. One of the pancake we have ever had for a long time. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Get sizzling pot bimbibap if you decid to get rice. I got fried tofu bimbibap and the pot stays hot through my whole meal. Hubby got the soup one I forgot the name but it's a beef soup with veggies and yam noodles. The soup taste so good especially on a cold day like today. Dear daughter got the bulgogi. It was not overly sweet like other bulgogi. It came out sizzling hot also. Make sure you try the kimchi! We got three refills. The best kimchi I ever had. Pairs really good with our dishes. Even my 16 yr old daughter said it fits her taste. Food is the whole 4 stars. Love the play of the name, for those who don't know it translates to "friend" in Korean. Super cute idea for the name of a resto. We walked in on a rainy afternoon craving hot soup, and they didn't disappoint. Every item that my partner and I ordered was delicious and we honestly can't wait to come back. For appetizer, I highly recommend their spicy chicken bao and kimchi fries. The fries stayed surprisingly crispy despite being covered with kimchi and kewpie mayo. Their kimchi jigae was piping hot and had the right amount of sourness you would want. Staff was kind, and attentive. The interior was on the darker side if I recall correctly, so it offers an intimate vibe for those looking to come here on a date or simply for quiet-like meal. It wasn't super busy when we went probably due to the inclement weather but I suspect this place can get loud. Seats are not suuuper close together which I appreciated. Dined in at noon on a Sunday, and restaurant was empty. We got greeted by the owner and seated right away which was nice. Ambience is typical for most Korean restaurants, dark, bar-like. Food was as expected, well-seasoned, and we finished everything. A few things to note: prices are not too bad, and portion is great. I wish banchan (side dishes) was an option in the menu because it would definitely complete the meal. There's a small portion of kimchi served, but it wasn't my favorite. TL;DR Bargain prices for Korean food! Absolute gem! Food (5/5) - The menu featured a lot of repeating motifs (bulgogi, army stew, bibimbap etc) but enough variety to come here often. We ordered: 1) Creamy kimchi udon ($19) - think carbonara with a Korean twist. Udon sauteed with shrimp, bacon and creamy kimchi sauce, topped with parmesan. Really yummy, a good non-spicy option that was still very tasteful and didn't feel like eating a heart attack. 2) Yukgaejang ($16) - Korean stew, spicy beef soup with shredded beef, scallions, bean sprouts, bracken, mushrooms and sweet potato noodles. Comes with rice. So worth it - portions were large, could drink the stew for days. Just the right amount of spicy where it warms you going down. Have been remiss eating well textured sweet potato noodles - these retained their texture but also held flavor really well. The soup was fully loaded with the aforementioned ingredients - they spared no expense. Ambiance (4/5)  - Interior was a little bright for a Friday night but fairly quiet, unobstrusive. Service (5/5) - Food and drinks all came very promptly and were hot. Price (5/5) - normally priced for NYC food but the portions make it totally worth it! Covid - Customary vaccine card check, tables are fairly spaced out. Some outdoor seating available. Staff are fairly respectful of distancing (as much as is possible) and masking. I did not have any expectations, for it was my first time, and it's hard to find Korean food that actually tastes like Korean food (I am from Korea). However, this restaurant really delivered. First, the host was super nice and helpful. I asked him for a recommendation, and he guided me towards picking the right option for me. After searching many restaurants, I've decided on choosing chingoo. Starting with a positive, delivery only took 20 minutes while it said it'll take 40-55 minutes. They also texted that they're here rather than calling and left it in my building lobby with my name written on it. Which sounds common but not all places do so. For food, I ordered the soy garlic fried chicken wings and the deopbap lunch special with bulgogi. Good things about the wings... the size of the wings were decent sized and not tiny like some other places and it was still crispy when I got them. Also can't forget about the pickled daikon on the side. It may have been the best part of my entire order. The bad... the soy garlic sauce was almost non-existent. See both pictures to compare... there was sauce on one side and not even fully, while the other had no flavor at all. The deopbap.. it's not appealing and it tasted like pork rather than beef, but the rice and sauce was good together. Overall, I'm not sure I would order again.. at least not the two items I ordered this time. For $32 (tax, tip, fees included), it wasn't worth it. read more

Everything was so great about this place! I guess it gets a lot DoorDash orders, because while we were sitting there eating there were about 5 pick ups! The galbi was so good, but his one issue was you really need to work for it. Each piece still had bone in it, he would have rather no bone. Still good!
