I am updating my review to reflect my most recent experience with Kimchi Grill: After I expressed dissatisfaction with the time it took to receive my last order, I was very surprised when the owner Phil reached out to me and offered to make things right. Any business that goes to this length to ensure customer satisfaction definitely deserves a second chance! First of all, I love how the menu has plenty of vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. I ordered the roasted veggie kimchi bowl and was very pleased. The flavors were great and all the ingredients seemed very fresh. Kimchi tends to be very overpowering, but it blended very well with all the other flavors and guacamole. The food here is very unique from other restaurants in the area. Would definitely recommend for a quick, healthy lunch in Brooklyn! If the owner makes the effort to correct unsatisfactory delivery orders, I am sure the service for dining in is great. read more

I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately that was just not the case. Location wise it's great. It's super close to the museum and a nice walk from the library. Having had Korean roommates, I can safely say I think I have a good palate for Korean food. I ordered the seared pork kimchi bowl with fried rice because obviously Koreans do pork best (personal opinion). My bowl arrived rather quickly and it was pretty but I definitely wasn't expecting my seared pork to be nearly like ground meat. The fried rice was flavorless and mushy. The kimchi was definitely mass produced in a factory and was overly pickled. The other vegetables were subpar. The pork was the best part. It was sweet and spicy but just not enough. Kimchi Grill opened my eyes to what I thought was impossible - f***ing up Korean Tacos. In fact, I feel ashamed and uncomfortable even calling these "Korean" tacos. Kim Jung Un wouldn't wish this kimchi on his worst American enemies, but I guess the hipsters actually managed to make this happen. The "kimchi" they use is horrendous, you can tell it's very old and sour, and not the good kind of sour you want from kimchi. I always enjoy coming to Kimchi Grill, especially since it is a combination of my two favorite things, Mexican and Korean food. I always get a side of their "spicy Korean rice gnocchis", which are just rice cakes smothered in red pepper glaze and topped with queso blanco. It sort of annoys me that we are calling rice cakes gnocchi as I think of them being something very different but I still get them. They are definitely the most basic rice cake I have had but I still enjoy them. I also really like their tacos. The spicy pork taco is really good and flavorful. I came here to celebrate one of my friend's birthday and was intrigued at the Mexican-Korean fusion aspect of the food. I ordered the 3 tacos for $10, 5 piece soy-garlic chicken wings for $6, and a frozen raspberry margarita which was around $5-$6. For the 3 tacos for $10, I got the Korean BBQ short ribs (signature marinade beef topped with red cabbage, apple pear and kimchi slaw), Korean fried chicken (fried chicken tossed in blue agave nectar and ginger garlic sesame seed, Korean pepper glazed with pickled daikon and queso blanco), and the Krispy fish (mango salsa, sweet rice flour and sweet potato starch batter with chipotle aioli, kimchi slaw and pickled daikon). Unfortunately the fried chicken taco was my friend's so I did not get to try it. The Korean BBQ short ribs taco meat was perfectly seasoned. The taco itself brought out a sweet flavor all together with the delectable crunch of the pear, slaw and red cabbage. The Krispy fish taco was also delicious, with the fish perfectly seasoned and none of the chalky after taste I usually have when I eat batter - fried fish. This taco overall brought out a tangy flavor, especially of the mango which takes the mouth to a whole different adventure from the Korean BBQ short ribs taco. These two are my favorite so far just because each taco brought out a different flavor. The soy-garlic chicken was bigger than I expected. Biting into the chicken wing, there was a sensation of flavors, both garlic and soy sauce. The chicken was cooked really well and the sauce itself was very flavorful (a balance of salty, and a tiny hint of sweetness as well as the garlic flavor). Personally for me, after a while sitting out the chicken became drenched in sauce that it became overwhelming. I would prefer eating it with rice (which I may do next time) The frozen raspberry margarita tasted really refreshing. Aside from multiple brain freezes, the beverage had the sweetness and fruitiness of the raspberry which was finished off with a bitter taste (obviously due to the alcohol). It really balanced well with the soy-garlic wings which in the end helped cleanse the palette of the garlic taste. Food: really good, the tacos are great: each has a different taste between one another which takes your tongue on an adventure. Appearance: pretty big, not so cramped, the place had a modern feel with the window very similar to a garage door (the left side of the wall, advertises their beverages and their brunch special)- very similar feel to Joju (in elmhurst) without the crampness of the space. Service: the service was great! Friendly people (if you eat in they being out the food to your table) Price: $4-$10 If you're ever in the area of Brooklyn, exploring the Brooklyn museum or so, I would highly recommend this place. The prices are not that bad either. My top recommendations for this place are the tacos and the wings. read more

This is a trendy looking Mexican restaurant that uses Kimchee in their food, nothing more. Their food isn't even that great. First of all, the best aspect of Korean Mexican fusion food is the use of cheese in combination with Kimchee and Korean spices. Kimchee Grill barely uses cheese in their food, even their quesadilla. Studying their menu which lists the ingredients, it is clear they don't use any Korean spices at all. I had their wings and they didn't even double fry them, a signature technique in any Korean fried chicken. I am truly confounded why their rating is so high. I can only conclude that they either paid Yelp to raise it, or most of their reviewers are ignorant of good Korean Mexican fusion. To be fair I haven't tried their tacos, which I will at some point, just to be fair. Don't go here. What a missed opportunity to try more flavorful soft tacos, since I had already eaten an abundant meal at another place! Casually walking into Kimchi Grill, I knew I had to order the fish taco (to be semi-healthy, of course)! The fish taco had a soft tortilla shell to support it's diverse palette of mesmerizing flavors that were captivated inside. Flavors of spice, sweet, and a bit of savory all came into play and worked really well together. I highly recommend the fish taco (5/5). On the menu, it is called "Krispy Fish" under Tacos and is composed of mango salsa, sweet rice flour and sweet potato starch batter, chipotle aioli, kimchi slaw and pickled daikon (all very delicious)! I appreciated the hospitality of Kimchi Grill when they offered every customer who purchased water that was in a little plastic cup with a lid. This place. This place! I was walking home from WaCo, on a beautiful Spring Friday evening, and discovered there were Korean tacos and burritos in my backyard! I absolutely had no choice. My soul automatically sought the life-affirming love of Taeji Bulgogi. And burritos. Good god. So pleased to have accidentally discovered this place, was to my buzzed and allegedly starving delight. The menu is very focused, and knows what it does right: short ribs/spicy pork/some vegetarian nonsense (no judgement, just cant remember - I do love me some edamame). The delightful server asked if I wanted guacamole (sure) and extra spicy (sure), and what kind of beans (black!). This is really a 3.5 for me. The bad news is I kept seeing Kimchi Grill as a place I'd checked in at and should review, and I couldn't think of where it was, what I'd eaten and if I'd like it or not--so clearly not too memorable. The good news is, once I saw the map, I could remember exactly where it was, mostly what I'd eaten and that I had liked it...well enough. I had a quick dinner here before hitting the Brooklyn Museum for its free Saturday evening event a few weeks ago. It was a great choice in that situation. It's an affordable spot (about $10 per person) with a menu that appeals to current tastes. I got two (or three?!) tacos and an agua fresca, even though the tacos + tecate deal is a pretty great deal. I enjoyed both of my tacos, but wasn't blown away. I did really enjoy my agua fresca, and the cucumber in the free tap water is a nice touch. If you're near the Brooklyn Museum, this is your spot. Rainy and cold Sunday night. Wanted Korean and this place was on Caviar so decided to give it a try. Between BF and I got: - Korean wings - Vietnamese Lime: Ginger, garlic, fish sauce, Korean pepper flakes, and lime juice garnished with roasted peanuts and cilantro. It's tangy, spicy and strong fish sauce flavor but I liked it and BF loved it. Recommend if you like wings and interested in trying something different. - Big Belly Burrito - BF got this with seared spicy pork. Said overall it was delicious and very filling-- it's huge! He was only able to eat half of it and he eats a lot. Also said that it contained way more kimchi than he liked but would order again with lighter load of kimchi. - Tofu Stew with Multigrain Rice - got this in a small and ate it with half the rice--very filling. This wasn't amazing but it hit the spot as I was craving Korean stew and it was cold and wet outside. It was spicy, had a good amount of kimchi and tofu. The rice helped to balance out the heat. Only thing is the broth could be better. But I would order this again if I was craving Korean stew. Great concept, but it's completely lost due to poor service, and their inability to delivery warm food. I ordered a delivery from them last week, and was brought food that was absolutely cold. The Rice balls were particularly cold, almost like they had been frozen in the middle. They took over an hour and a half to deliver the food, and despite me calling after and hour's wait to ask them to ensure it would be served warm, they delivered very cold food. The delivery man and the staff do not seem to have any consideration for reasonable quality standards despite accepting a generous tip paid in advance. MexiKorean Fusion? No clue. All I know is that this food was BOMBBBB! The veggie Kimchi Bowl was incredible. Nice kick but Not too spicy, lots of veggies, and a harmonious blend of flavors. I live a block from here, and this is a go-to restaurant. The veggie taco is a favorite, and their chicken tostada is delightful -- seasoned chicken, refried beans, lettuce, crunchy hard shell. And the spicy chicken soup is great, too. Also, I don't eat gluten, so battered fish tacos are a real treat. I do customize most of the dishes to my personal preferences, like the chicken is almost too spicy for my taste -- I generally like food to be mild-to-medium, and this is medium-to-hot. So I ask them to omit the jalepenos on the spicy chicken soup. Also, I am not a big fan of kimchi (go figure!) so I often ask them to omit. They are very accommodating! What started out as our craving for tacos around the Clinton Hill/Fort Greene area where I live eventually came to be a search for decently rated places on Yelp. This place came out on top, close to the next neighborhood. Even though the concept of mixing Korean and Mexican foods sounds bizarre, the fusion is quite yummy. I had the 3 for $10 taco special along with the soup of the day ~$5, which was a spicy Mexican soup. At first look, the tacos seemed kind of inconsequential and somewhat small (about 4-5 inches in length), but the taste definitely made up for it. The soup consisted of meat, rice, and vegetables and what was the clincher was that there was more substance than the actual spicy broth. The best part of the whole meal wasn't even the food. It was the owner who, despite being super busy with Seamless orders, went out of his way to hand me a container of water, made his rounds of asking if everything was okay, and even offering us coffee for free after our meal. I am a huge fan of their Bbq Nachos (large w. guac $12.50). The korean beef was really nicely marinated and seared/broiled so there were tons of my favorite delicious little crispy bits on every bite. The kimchi gave the nachos a nice vinegary kick that made the whole thing feel lighter than it might have otherwise. Service is super nice, and my wait was hardly 5 minutes for my food. I'm giving the food the benefit of the doubt as my stomach hadn't been too happy the day before. My real issue is with the "rounding" and how they got an extra $.24 cents from me. I noted the odd menu prices and assumed this was so that with tax, it would come out to a nice even amount. Mine did come out to a nice even amount, because they added an additional "rounding" of 24 cents. I wouldn't mind if it was a few cents but this is basically a quarter. I've only ever really got delivery from here (although I order from here often), so I guess take my recommendation with a grain of salt? Food here is generally solid. The only thing I'd stay away from is the kimchi bowl, only because the ratio of how much kimchi to meat to other vegetable to rice is SO off-- way too much kimchi, not enough grain. And tacos don't hold up that great in transit. But on the other hand, my favorites: - Burritos My favorite is the short rib, but I think the spicy pork is pretty great too. Extra love to the kimchi fried rice. In the summer, I like the SSAM version, where they use spring roll wrappers as the tortilla. - Spicy Korean Rice Gnocchi Really fun play on ddukboki, with a crispy outside texture that contrasts the chewiness. - Kimchi Arancini Fried kimchi rice balls with cheese, although I'm always surprised at how small they look when I get them. - Nachos ESPECIALLY with short rib. My favorite. I think they also have a french fry version of this which is also good, but nachos is still my favorite because of the crisp wonton wrapper chips they use. - Spicy Mexican Soup This is my favorite: lots of chicken, rice (or gnocchi if you prefer), lime, avocado, jalapeno. I spent $54 here at Kimchi Grill. This included a $10 taco combination, 2 $9 fish kimchi bowls, one $8.75 seared spicy pork kimchi bowl, 5 pc. Korean spicy original wings, and 5pc. chipotle honey wings. This includes tax. My three tacos were amazing with the addition of extra hot sauce that was on the table. I asked for extra spicy tacos, too, but you can adjust the level of spice when you order. This is also true with every order. For what it's worth the kimchi bowl is not a large portion. It especially looks that way because of how large the bowl is compared to the food. The chipotle honey wings tastes like ginger so some reason and the Korean spicy original wings are too salty. Also, this place does provide cucumber water for free if you're thirsty. They also bring the food to you, but you order in the front. I definitely will recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite. However, I do not like the location of this place and the cashier.
