The food is fantastic. We always order takeout, and the only thing that annoys us is the occasional inconsistency. We're used to bento boxes with generous portions of meat, noodles, rice, and salad, but sometimes the portions are noticeably smaller, leaving my husband still hungry afterward... Had planned to order take out for my son's last day of school from Na Gu Na, and was surprised to see that they are closed. Did a few searches on Yelp and saw that Kimchi House had taken over the place. We ordered their a la carte spicy pork and the chicken katsu bento. Their portions are huge! The spicy pork was delish and plentiful - mom, bf and I were all food coma afterwards and still had enough lefties for dinner! The chicken katsu also had a bigger portion compared to Na Gu Na's, this is my son's fave. Not sure if he was excited about it though. The adults will def be ordering from here again, but we will have to see if the child agrees. Also, not sure if it was the new owners that I had met when I was there, but they were super friendly. read more

We would eat here twice a week if our 12 year old son had his way! We're locals, and have been going to this location for years, since it had other owners. We were nervous when the new owners took over, since we loved the ramen, the mandu, the bulgogi, and for my son, the chicken katsu. We hadn't had a bad dish. There was nothing to fret, though: in fact, the quality and service have improved! As the other posters noted, this is a family business, a community business, and clearly a labor of love. The new owners know us, and know our usual orders -- especially our son, and his katsu bento. We are so glad to have the Kimchi house in our hood! read more

Yesterday my husband and I discovered that our favorite Korean restaurant in Pinole had a new name. We decided to try it out, hoping the new name didn't mean unpredictable new owners. To our surprise, the lady who had been the cook there and her husband had bought the place. They renamed it Kimchi House, she said, so people would know it was Korean. We really love the atmosphere. It's homelike and gracious, almost like visiting the house of friends. The food is just as wonderful as ever, with attention paid to spice levels for various guests. I was tempted by the Mandu soup , which I hadn't had for a few months. Mandu are dumplings, like pot stickers. The soup came out bubbling hot after a crowd of the little appetizers called banchan in Korean. My husband got a favorite beef dish that came with a bowl of pretty lavender-colored rice. The lady says she makes it by adding a little fragrant black rice to the white jasmine variety. We took our time, ate our fill and still had to ask for some take-home boxes. Today we told our son about the change, so we're going back tomorrow for a rematch. Any questions??? read more

Been coming here since they opened and their food never disappoints. It's the right amount of comfy and appetizing, and the portions are generous so you can take it home if you can't finish it there. There's outside seating for when the weather is favorable, and there are outlets for your devices if you need to charge them while you eat. The owners are so attentive on if you're running low on water or tea, and we've even had a refill of banchan! They always thank patrons after they finish their meal and wish you well as you leave their restaurant. A wonderful addition of Korean cuisine in a small old-fashioned town. read more

Last night, my wife and I went out to the location of one of our favorite restaurants, Nu Gu Na, and had not learned that the name had been changed. We worried that it had been changed and the food we had liked a lot might have been different. To our surprise, we learned that the lady cook who had made a lot of wonderful meals for us at Nu Gu Na was, along with her husband, now the owner of Kimchi House. The food was, of course, as good and had variety and taste as anything we have ever eaten there across a number of years. The atmosphere, both smell and the "feel" of the place, were, as usual, warm and friendly . We'll be eating there with one of our sons later this week, and I'm certain that whatever each of us chooses will be wonderful. I'm pretty sure we're going to be coming again and again up time. The place, service, and people can all be described in one word: superb. read more

Our party of 2 arrived around 1pm on a weekday and there were only a few other groups present. We sat outside and waited about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered the bulgogi bento box ($19.95) and my partner ordered the bibimbap ($17.95). The food was mediocre - the bulgogi was very dry. I've had better Korean food but it's a pretty good Korean joint considering the place is located in Pinole! We ordered the Spicy Tofu Soup, Spicy Kimchi Ramen and their fried chicken w/ spicy sauce on the side. My lady said that their Spicy Tofu Soup was good though I thought it was OK...Same goes for the Spicy Ramen and the fried chicken. Keep in mind, I live around Oakland so I'm spoiled by great food joints lol. I rate this place 3.8 stars but gave this place a 4 because of their side dishes....Delicious! Their Banchan (side dishes) is one of the best I've had especially the pickled radish w/ jalapenos (Gahhh Dam!), pickled cucumbers and the fish cake! I just ate at the Kimchi house. It was very delicious there. We had our favorite that was the Combination seafood soup/ med. spicy, fried fish & pot stickers! Service was excellent & was always there to help & service us. There wasn't that many people around at the time. But a lot of phone calls for take out. We always in joy our time & food there. Appreciate the service from the lady we recieved thank you. Chicken katsu was good. I did use to come here at Nu gu na only for the rice cakes and japchae I felt really sad though because although food was really close the rice cakes where not the same they where too chewy. I'm very picky with rice cakes it was a gem to find perfectly cooked rice cakes. The japchae was different as well. It's a good spot but definitely not the same taste wise. I crossed the bridge for the old place but I'm glad they preserved a lot of their items. I'm pretty sure all the boxes are delicious. Each new restaurant has their plus sides. The menu has new items so that's a plus for whomever comes here for bento boxes. read more

Oh my God the food was delicious. I'm so bad at remembering to take photos; too bad because the table was filled with different colored foods; some on trays - others in lots of little dishes. I had the Beef Bulgogi Bento with a side of kimchi, My guests had Donkatsu (deep fried breaded pork), and Galbi BBQ Beef short ribs. We all shared everything. The beef was soo tender and tasty! I was hungry for kimchi and theirs is good. My favorites of the small dishes were pickled bean sprouts and pickled cucumber. Also what we call "glass noodles"(don't know the real name) - all spiced perfectly..There was no ambience to speak of, but the food made up for it. read more

cashier was rude, said they were closed 10 minutes before they actually were. i tried to explain to the cashier that they actually still had 10 minutes until closing and he was rude about it snf kept telling me they were closed, BUT he had other clients he had served in ther who were asian ( we're hispanic by the way ). bad service , not coming back any time soon. read more
