What an impressive staff! Miles at the front the desk, went over and beyond to make sure we were happy with our stay. Never have I been treated so well by hotel staff. Miles made sure we were happy with our room by listening to our wants after we weren't satisfied with our first room option. He also took the time to give us inside tips about fun things to do during the duration of our stay. It never felt like he was just feeding us trivial information either. Hotel is historic as most in down town Chicago in this area seem to be. It is remodeled and modern with nice rooms and interior. The room size is decent for a historic hotel like this. On our visit the city was repaving the streets around the hotel and some city/government lackey decided that it would be efficient to do the construction 24 hrs. The worst part was the back up alarm on the construction equipment all night long. Don't know how long the project was going, but they did it both nights we stayed here. While technically not the hotels fault, there r two points: 1. This is a major hotel chain with multiple locations and hard to believe they did not know about the construction and attend local government meetings to oppose 24 hrs construction that they should have had the foresight to know would impact customers. 2. When informing the front desk that we got absolutely NO sleep and were just requesting a room change for the second night and extra late check out cause we were exhausted from the all nighter, the manager told us it was not their fault THEN apologized and wouldn't give us as late a check out as we requested. We were on a business trip so we did not request credit, company pays, but had we been on a vacation would have DEMANDED a refund cause this is a 4-5 star hotel w/ uber prices. Especially since we were not demanding credit, the managers response was completely inappropriate. We even only got a our check out later cause I expressed how tried and cranky we were or else the manager would not have given it. The hotels apology was a note with 2 free bottled waters and stale flavored pop corn that was inedible. Especially if a disgruntled customer is not demanding a refund, just give them whatever they r asking for, especially if u r a 4-5 star hotel. I've been a customer service manager before, handling complaints is not rocket science, you just apologize and appease the customer with in the limits of company policy. It is not necessary to disavow responsibility for something that has impacted ur customer when they r already unhappy. read more

I have family in Illinois, and I recently flew out to visit them. We took a trip to Chicago, and stayed for a night at the Kimpton Gray Hotel. The atmosphere and overall vibe was fantastic. I spent some time at the Social Hour, and got to talking with Amanda, who works in sales. She was so easy to talk to. Great conversation, and such an amazing attitude. She told me about some places around the city I should check out, and seemed genuinely interested in how my trip was going. She's a keeper. Kimpton Gray Hotel is in a perfect location that is a block away from the blue line L stop (Monroe) that comes directly from O'Hare. This hotel sits in the heart of the Loop area of downtown. Of note, we felt very safe walking around this area of town. The hotel is beautiful and modern inside an older renovated building. I love the older look of the lobby and elevator areas. Front desk workers were pleasant and they offer coffee in the morning and a complimentary wine hour around 5pm in the lobby. Our room was gorgeous! I really enjoyed the bathroom. The sleek tile and shower design really resonated with me. I want to design my home bathroom just like it. Beds were very comfy and adorned with soft white comforters and sheets and a colorful decorative throw pillow. Cell phone chargers next to the beds were wonderful amenities. The inside of the floral printed armoire contained a robe, umbrella, and yoga mat. How thoughtful! No complaints at all! We loved our stay here. read more

Being minutes away from the Magnificent Mile, coming home to the Gray Hotel after a chilly winter day has made this family trip to the Windy City, an incredibly comfy one. The staff are phenomenal - incredibly friendly and kind while helping our family of six with everything from directions to moving luggage and providing us with all the amenities we left at home. I have a special shout-out to the bellman, Sam, who stood out with his exemplary service and recognition of our needs. It is staff like him who make establishments shine out above the rest!!! Combined with a beautiful historic building and gorgeous modern rooms, the Gray Hotel will definitely be a frequently visited stay for us. One of my favorite, unique twists offered here was a complimentary happy hour from 5-6pm with wine and a signature cocktail. Before heading out to dinner, remember to stop by the front office lounge around this time to indulge in spirits and enjoy a strategically place game board with friends. I am so happy that I made the decision to stay at The Gray. My first time staying at a Kimpton property and I am now a believer! This hotel was magnificent in every way imaginable. What I loved the most was the design esthetics and the masculine feel it had. Mr. Gray took care of us indeed. LOL. Hotel check in was a breeze. I was traveling with my BFF so we were able to split our room charge up front which was nice. Got it out the way. Our room was on the 12th floor with not much of a view. We faced an office building. Didnt matter to me the view...the room was all I needed. The room was lovely. Loved the bathroom design and the bed was so comfy. All 3 nights I slept like a baby. Super comfy and plush. Oh...and the robes! They were amazing! $90 amazing to be exact...if you wanted to purchase one. Everyday after sightseeing my friend and I would put our robes on and lounge in bed. It was well equipped with a mini bar and snacks for your liking, a yoga mat and a nice wardrobe to hang your clothes in. One thing I did notice that they should take into account when it comes to the design of the shower is that because it is open while showering water splashes out on to floor which makes it a bit messy. Kimpton is a very nice upscale hotel located in the heart of downtown Chicago. I came here for a whiskey tasting event on the 15 floor in one of the ballrooms. From the ballroom there is a nice city view and a nice open space right outside the ballroom with seats to socialize. read more

I am generally a fan of the Kimpton chain of hotels. My favorite one is the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, the Hotel Monaco was booked during a recent visit to Chicago, so my wife and I settled for a stay at this Kimpton Gray Hotel instead. Location-wise, this worked out well as I was taking my wife to see the musical Hamilton to celebrate her birthday and the theater is a short 5 minute walk away. However, that is where the positives end. We disliked the bathroom in our room and felt that it was not very functional. There is no shower curtain but rather a half open glass panel that looks neat, but it allowed water to build up on the floor of most of the bathroom. In addition, the bathroom has a sliding door that would not stay shut. If you wanted/needed privacy, we had to rig up a way to jam the sliding door so it would stay shut. The thing that made me angry was that we also booked a deal through their website called Stay and Valet. The deal stated that for a certain price, valet parking was included in the cost to book the room. I thought all was good until several weeks later when I saw an additional separate charge from Kimpton on my credit card bill. When I called to inquire about the cost, the man I spoke to was not helpful at all. I explained to him that we booked our stay with the Stay and Valet deal. He smugly said that I was mistaken and that deal meant that there was only going to be a discount for valet parking of $20 but we had to cover the rest of the cost. After hanging up, I reread the terms of the deal and sure enough, the deal should have covered the entire cost of our valet parking for overnight. I called back again and explained to that the entire cost of valet parking should have been covered. He reluctantly agreed to give us a credit on my credit card (which I still have not seen). What irked me the most was that there was not even a hint of apology in his tone and it seemed like I was inconveniencing HIM for making him fix a mistake on his part. I was angry about three things: 1. Making a mistake about charging us for valet even though we paid for it through their online deal 2. Continuing to be misinformed about their deal even after I called to complain about the additional charge 3. Not even apologizing for THEIR mistake - very poor customer service! So, in summary, I would hesitate to stay here again unless you want to be overcharged and enjoy dealing with their horrible customer service. read more

I ordered a hotel several days before I checked in via Travelocity, for less than $200 (a really good deal considering this place is pretty expensive). The inside of this hotel is magnificent. There's beautiful winding stairs leading to the elevators. Everything is gold and posh and my boyfriend and I felt so out of place. Dress fancy if you're going to go here. When we checked in (a Saturday), there were wedding photo shoots going on in the lobby! The inside of our room was pretty anti-climatic compared to the rest of the hotel. It's kind of small, but the bed and bathroom made up for that. The bathroom was so clean and the walk in shower was glorious. (There's full sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash!!!!!!!) The bed was so soft and plush that w e immediately fell asleep. And of course, above all else, the staff was amazing. Everyone was incredibly accommodating and kind. Extra kudos to the men at the entrances for being so sweet the entire time!!!!! Only gave four stars cause I though the room would be a bit bigger than it was, plus no microwave or fridge. Old law building with a convenient location. The staff is nice. Loved Sam in particular, such an amazing guy. The general areas are really nice and comfortable with beautiful marble and original details. The elevators are excellent and fast. Parking is really expensive. Great hotel but DO NOT use their valet!! They stole, won't fess up, and stopped returning messages. Over $1400 missing and the Kimpton Gray only offered to refund our $65 valet charge. Do not valet with Park 1!! Self park your car and keep yours keys. Our insurance deductible is $1000 so we'd be dumb to make a claim to only get $400 back and do something that would raise our premium the next 3 years. Again, BEWARE OF KIMPTON GRAY VALET COMPANY! They outsource to a third party Park 1 company and hold no responsibility for your vehicle or belongings! And Park 1 parks your car in a garage with NO cameras!! How convenient.... read more

I had just finished staying at another Kimpton in Nashville (Great if you skip the room service food ) The staff is so nice ; they will put a stamp on your postcard and bam! Beds are comfy, plenty of elevators . I'd give it 5 stars but their brand is I consistent. Sometimes they have complimentary bottled water for you and sometimes it's 5 bucks a pop depending on the city. I think clean drinking water should be a given at any hotel, don't you ? Especially when you think about how much money a hotel makes renting the same bed over and over for 400 dollars a night. How many people have shared those sheets with you ? How many people have had sex there ? And still no free water. It's not a Kimpton Thing but a hotel chain thing. Give your guests fucking water!!! read more

The staff needs serious intervention. The front desk staff was not welcoming - lackluster check-in when compared to other Kimpton experiences. The bar staff was rude... from the gentleman that sat us down to the server who couldn't be bothered, the experience was terrible. Overpriced hotel cocktails. What else can be said. I stayed here with a friend on a Wednesday when we were in town to see Hamilton at the nearby PrivateBank Theatre. We got a decent rate through Priceline. It's a modern hotel with trendy decor and a vibrant color scheme. From the men at the door helping with our luggage, to the valet, and desk receptionist, the staff were all friendly and helpful. Our double-queen room was clean and comfortable and included snacks and a full mini-fridge if you felt like paying a premium for these items. My only complaint is the noise outside of our room at 11pm - do they empty dumpsters that late in Chicago? Because that's what it sounded like. Otherwise, it was a great find located exactly where we wanted to be. It was $60 to park at the hotel, but there are also garages nearby where you can park for half that through SpotHero if you don't mind walking a couple blocks. read more

I recently had my wedding at the new Kimpton Gray hotel in Chicago, and could not have dreamed of a better venue to host the best day of our lives. We knew we wanted to have our reception in a ballroom in downtown Chicago, and looked at numerous hotels and venues to fit our 150 guests, including other Kimpton hotels. When we toured the Gray with Veronica, we immediately knew that it would perfectly fit the vision of our wedding day - with the timeless look of the marble throughout the hotel (restored from the original building), modern trendy guest rooms, classy bars and delicious food, and the simple elegance of the ballroom. We enjoyed working with the team at the Gray during the year leading up to our wedding, and they were incredibly patient and accommodating to our every need, through countless emails, phone calls, and meetings. We had some bumps along the way (to be expected with a brand new hotel, a perfectionist bride, and a significant financial investment being made for one single day!) but Veronica made sure all of our concerns were addressed so that we (along with our families and bridal party) could relax and enjoy the wedding day. When the day came, our families and friends loved that their hotel rooms were in the same building as the reception, our bridal party had so much fun gathering and getting ready in the Gray's meeting rooms, our guests really enjoyed having the cocktail hour in the separate room at Boleo (with an open roof viewing of the Willis tower!), the ballroom looked exquisite for the reception, and it was great to be able to go back to Boleo to continue the celebrations at the end of the night. We had so many guests comment on the delicious drinks and food (from the hors d'oeuvres, to the entrees, the cake, and late night bites), and how the Gray provided an incredible venue to perfectly complement our wedding. Having never planned a wedding before, we didn't really know what to expect from the process, but our experience with the Gray went beyond what we could have hoped for. I had long since given up on boutique hotels. I've found that "boutique" in front of "hotel" meant that it would be heavy on the party atmosphere and light on the customer service and quality of the rooms. So when I booked my sister's bachelorette party in the city, I avoided any and all boutique hotels. Much to my distress, it seemed like every major hotel was booked completely for the first weekend of June. I enlisted my husband who found the Kimpton on a Google map search. I called the hotel to double check the availability of valet parking (a MUST in the city as many hotels are limited in space) and was reassured that valet would be guaranteed. A parking garage is also nearby. I quickly booked the rooms and hoped for the best. The Kimpton Gray is just off the Magnificent Mile and on a one way street. This works out to your advantage because the street is quieter and makes unloading your luggage easier. When we pulled up, Phillip greeted us, took all of our luggage, and sent the car off with the valet driver. He walked with us to the lobby and informed us that his shift was over but he was sending someone else to take care of us. I checked in with Miles who was very polite and asked if we needed any ideas to celebrate in the city. Sam came to replace Phillip and set us up in our room and made sure we had everything we needed.  Our rooms were beautiful, the bathrooms were a dream, the decor and style was muted and soothing yet very trendy. Even the ice was beautifully pre bagged and stacked with loving care in the ice closet! The rooftop bar was also beautiful. Because there are several restaurants located inside the building, you need a key card to access the floors with rooms. This made it feel very safe. There were plenty of elevators so I never had to share one with anyone going to the restaurant or bar. The floor where we stayed at was VERY quiet. I've stayed at many hotels, including Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont. I was for sure no one could meet the calibur of customer service those hotel have but the Kimpton Gray does. I am so impressed with the quality of customer service that was given and the attention to detail. I will definitely be back with my family and will be recommending the hotel to all of my friends. read more

I was quite disappointed during my recent stay. When I arrived, I chose to valet park. Assistance was provided getting my bag out of my vehicle however no assistance was provided as to how to get to the front desk. I walked inside and saw stairs but I would not be able to carry my bag up all of those stairs. I wasn't sure if the lobby was at the top of the staircase. I saw elevators but they said "Staff only." I walked back to the valet stand and asked for guidance. I was then shown the elevators at the far end were for guests. I check in at the front desk on the 2nd floor. It was nothing special - I wasn't even informed of the reception they have daily for guests 5-6. I stayed 2 nights. As I was ready for departure, I provided the valet ticket and waited about 30 minutes for my vehicle. I was assisted with my bag but when I got into the driver's seat, I noticed the low tire pressure light was on. I got out of my vehicle and asked the valet for assistance as the low tire pressure light was not on when I arrived. I explained I was concerned to leave during rush hour and get stranded on the side of the road. He politely said it is just a light. Again, I explained my concern of having a flat tire and it's in the middle of rush hour. He was not concerned, did not seem to care at all since his response was "your tires look fine to me." I certainly expected better service at Kimpton Gray. I would not recommend staying here, there are far more superior boutique hotels in the Chicago area. read more

The hotel allowed my friend to be assaulted on a Thursday evening. We work corporate jobs down the street from the hotel and are Chicago natives. A young woman in a jean jacket with long curly brown hair decided to follow us out of the hotel outside the main entrance/steadfast and accost my friend. I ran out to the front desk bunking a security guard would be on staff; however, there was no action taken and no thought to look over the security footage. Overall extremely poor and unsafe actions taken by this hotel and I do not recommend for anyone let alone tourists in the area. read more

this is the best hotel that i have stayed in yet, & my favorite! this was my second time staying here, and once again it was a great stay! for starters, you can sign up for reward points every time you stay here so you can eventually get deals etc for the hotel, and others. every night there is a complimentary wine hour, which is awesome because you can try different types of wines/ sometimes other drinks, and it's always very satisfying! the hotel is very pretty and clean, especially very pretty around the holidays with the holiday decorations. we stayed in the king tall deluxe room, and let me tell you, it has one of the most comfiest and amazing bed you will ever sleep in! the bathroom is also so pretty and i love that they provide you shampoo, conditioner & body wash, they all smell very good!! i still bring my own but it's nice to know i don't need to. they can also provide you with anything you need incase you forget something. basically anything you could probably think of, even phone cords. in my case, i forgot a hair straightener, and we just called down and asked for one and they brought one, and a hair curler!! if you are also in need of starbucks, like i was, they have a starbucks in the hotel located on the first floor! it is also in a great location and walking distance from tons of great shopping, food, and bars! this time we stayed here it was during nye and they also even have an event for that as well in their rooftop bar! i would recommend anyone to stay here!! i can't wait to go back and stay again! read more

Woke up and there's no coffee maker in the room called down to the front desk and asked if I could order room service to have them send me up some coffee and breakfast; the front desk clerk said we don't start serving breakfast for room service until 7:30 AM.
