My husband likes to go to Ms. Kim. Then again, it's hard to ruin a military cut. My son's hair does't usually fall into the same category. The first time my son went in for a cut, the stylist refused to do a high fade. Kept telling her that the area near his colic tends to stick out and it needs to be kept short. She didn't want to give my son a "military haircut" and decided to do her own thing. We ended up coming back a few days later to get it fixed. The second time we went, we had he same issue. I thought I'd try it one last time and ask for Ms. Kim. She gave us what we wanted. She does take her time, but asks lots of questions. So we now only go to see her. However, if my son decides to do a more eccentric do (e.g. faux hawk), we would probably have to go elsewhere. If you're looking for traditional haircuts then this is your place. read more

for $18 you get a phenomenal meticulous hair cut, that goes above and beyond the expectation. Off a quieter side street of Chain Bridge road this gem of a barbershop provides unparalleled cuts! Yes it is pricier than (i won't name names) some places in Maryland but for the same price as the Hair Cutter nowadays I would pick this place hands down. At the end of the hair cut, you get a phenomenal warm lather shave accompanied by a 5 min but it felt like 15 min massage of your scalp, forehead neck and ever shoulders! Then at the end of it all you get a nice warm towel wipe down of everything so as not to leave a single speck of hair behind. Who needs shampoo nowadays when you can settle for the aforementioned. And not to mention you get a free bottle of water at the end! Bring cash it preferred but if you can't a card is allowed too! read more

Now, I have been in the NoVa area for almost two years now. I wish I knew this place the day I moved in. I have tried many a hair salons and barbers in my area, but Kim is by far the best barber I have encountered in my stay here in US. Firstly, the couple is very meticulous. I wear glasses and Kim's husband who was cutting my hair, put on my glasses for me at least thrice to see if the haircut looks good with them on. The attention to detail can wear you down. It took him a good 40 minutes to complete my haircut. So though a bit more pricey than average, the hourly rate is much lower than the rest and totally worth it. Would definitely recommend, for guys, at the least. read more

Kim exceeded my expectations today. Since I work in McLean, I was looking for a simple barbershop and stumbled onto her Yelp page. After reading the great reviews, I took a chance; the moment I sat down, I felt comfortable because she knew exactly what I wanted and didn't ask any questions. She was patient and meticulous when cutting, which did not make me feel rushed. After she finished my haircut, she used a straight edge razor to clean the sides and the back; however, it didn't stop there. I have been going to Kim for over 5 years and I wish I could give her 10 Stars....Kim recently opened her own salon and I know with her talent and ability to connect with her customers will position her business for great success. Yesterday, I received my first haircut at her new salon and it was perfect as usual. I find Kim's consistency is only matched by Chipotle's Burrito Bowls. Every time I visit Kim it is a wonderful experience and I look forward watching her grow her new business. Please do yourself a favor and get a cut from Kim. For both quality and price, I don't think this place can be beat in the DMV. Kim is fantastic and all the other barbers I've had are great too. I get a tight fade and they do a great job. Love the hot towel, hot shaving cream for touch up and massage. Last time I checked it was only $18 which is pretty crazy--I give 25 total. read more

Saw the reviews for this barbershop online, and decided to give it a whirl. Unfortunately for me. The hairdresser did not give me the cut I requested (after showing her two pictures of what I wanted), and did not correct an issue I had with how she was shaping my hair, after I pointed it out to her three times. Sadly, she took way too much off, so I will have to grow my hair out again to get the cut I wanted. Additionally, after I left, I went to the bathroom at work to find my forehead still covered in small hairs that the hairdresser failed to dust away. Did not see any customers in the barbershop when I walked in, and now I know why. read more

Was in town needed a haircut and this is one of the few places that was open early on Saturday morning around 8:30. Nobody else there so got seated right away. Got a very thorough haircut and also opted in for a beard trim. Service was really friendly too and even ended with a massage. Only reason that isn't 5* is that some of the machines that used really scraped my skin and hurt. Haven't really felt that at other places before. Price was pretty fair, $18 for the haircut, and $7 for the beard trim. Not bad at all. Highly recommend this place. read more

Kim has cut my hair for nearly 14 years now and like a few of the other posters - I too followed her from Dominion Barbershop. I just got my first cut at her new place today. I've never posted to Yelp before, but someone so earnest and hard working - and so on-top of her game - deserves a hand in advertising her new business. I really want her to succeed in her new endeavor and am not surprised to see a few other loyal customers have posted here as well. Kim is the real deal. She's always provided an excellent hair-cut & neck shave - is very precise and attentive to her customers - and she works well with kids of all ages to boot. At Dominion, year-in-and-year-out, she was always in-demand and seemed to be the only one ever to have lots of appointments - probably because she was the best barber there. With her own place now, it's even better, roomier, neat, and cleaner. I actually live 20 minutes away from McLean, but I still drive over to get my hair cut by her. Sadly Lynn left after only 1 haircut I received from her. This review is for the gentleman who also works there. It was, unfortunately, a poor experience. Poor communication, none too friendly, and when I went home, realized just how poor the haircut was and how many of the standard yet minute details had not been taken care of. I've moved on, at least until Lynn comes back (if ever). The owner does seem delightful, however, and I would make an appointment with her in a pinch.
