Very disappointing today. Not busy and I brought my friend. We ordered a drink some naan and some soup. Water came back for entree and an hour and a half later he came and said fish was taking a little longer. Never came back. I had to go back to kitchen to say forget it. We'd pay for what we had eaten but weren't waiting longer. 2 hrs Really for lunch! Someone did come over as we went to pay and tell us no chg there was a mixup in the kitchen and gave us a gift card. Love the food, service is mediocre at best. Loved the tandoori shrimp with poratta as Dan Hoppen suggests, making a taco with the chutney. Butter chicken, naan, etc. were delicious as well as the cocktails. The problem here is the food is amazing and the service is poor. The first time we came here we waited for 30+ minutes PAST our reservation time and were never seated. We were not even offered water or a drink, we asked for the manager and never saw one, and stormed out. We waited a year and went back due to people raving about this place and had a OK time, not the best Indian food in the area but a fresh take, OK service. This trip was back to a less than ideal experience. Waited 15 minutes from seating to get a drink order. Didn't even see wait staff telling us they'd be with us soon. I expected this knowing this place is all good food and poor service, so no surprise. We were greeted AS IF this was totally normal, get your table and wait 15 minutes, so no apologies or acknowledgement that we'd even been sitting and waiting. Quickly ordered drinks apps and the meal proceeded as expected, with a more regular pace. At the end of the meal we want a box, to pay and leave. Again, waiting for a long time with no wait staff helping us. I love the food but you can honestly get better Indian food for WAY less money a mile away, and the staff doesn't treat you like you need them and they don't need you. Atmosphere is decent, but didn't have music playing even though they have speakers I can see. The cost of the restaurant does not match the delivery on the service or ambiance. Not sure if the staff is underpaid, or the leadership doesn't honor quality front of house, but it's a total mismatch. We had 2 sets of silverware and one was rolled normal like, the other was rolled up like 6 inches differentiation because of the poor and inconsistent preparation of the silverware/napkin. This would not fly at most every cheap-o restaurant, but apparently here that's what you get. It really seemed like the staff didn't really care. The price point doesn't match the service. Good food, be prepared to wait and expect you're paying for the food not the service. read more

I just experienced a delightful AND delicious lunch! Dining alone, with a focus on getting a bit of work done over lunch, I entered Kinaara and was quickly seated at the bar (my choice). Bar dining here is comfortable, well lit, spacious, and delightful - especially with Christian behind the bar! He told me it was only his fourth day and that fact amazed me given his menu knowledge, rapport building and service skills. He's clearly well-trained and engaged in his role. On his recommendation, among several, I chose Butter Chicken and added a side of rice. This was a fabulous dish! A talented blend of Indian spice, tomato, and super-tender chunks of chicken. Finally got around to trying this place after only ever hearing great things and glad we did! Everything was really, really great. Went there to celebrate with the fam. Amazing cocktails, food, desert, apps. Everything was really good. Liked the atmosphere. They have a kids menu too. My boys loved it! My seven year old said he wants to have his bday dinner there so we will be accommodating that request when that day arrives. We all had a great dinner and hang. The chef came out and asked how everything was which was nice. Our server was great and knowledgeable about the menu and had good recommendations. I recommend the lamp chop on the bone. Note to self: Nice upscale Indian restaurant in Regency. The pakora was next level! Clearly came out freshly made. And the quantity was insanely generous for $8. Chickpea coating was also uniquely seasoned and delicious as well as the mint chutney that came with it (which I am usually not a fan, but it was a perfect compliment). Order pakora every time! The aloo gobi was just ok. Not my favorite take on the dish, and for "medium" spice level it was blazingly spicy! I'd give it 3 stars. But the pakora, service and atmosphere rounds this place up to a 5. Just try a different entree next time. read more

Kinaara is a top 10 Omaha favorite and I absolutely love it. The service is always great and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Devin was our waiter last night and he went above and beyond to make it a great experience. The restaurant itself is very cozy, warm colors, and it smells wonderful right when you walk in. On Wednesdays and Thursdays they have a Thali special. It comes with three meat dishes, three vegetable dishes, rice, naan, flatbread, dessert, yogurt sauce and a chutney. It's perfect for sharing! We also ordered the Butter Chicken and extra Garlic Naan, so we had plenty to take home. The food is phenomenal and made with so much love. Went to the Regency location for the first time on a qeekday evening and the place was packed. They have a big table (seats ~8+) which is really nice for a big group and is a bit isolated from other seating which was great given our group had 3 babies under 1. Everyone enjoyed the food, but we did have some service hiccups - water cups weren't filled too much/often, a soup order was forgotten and 2 drink (masala tea) orders we had to ask them about as we they likely forgot to put in the order (we got them shortly after asking). We did order a few different times so that could be part of the issue. The chef/owner stopped by our table to ask us avout our meal which I haven't seen much in the Omaha dining scene. Wonderful restaurant with amazing food and ambience. Excellent for a date night or fun night out, but I also noticed the restaurant had a busy takeout business as well. Conveniently located on the south side of the Regency Mall, there is plenty of parking. I highly recommend a reservation, especially on a weekend. But if you have a wait, plenty of place to browse inside the mall. The menu is a great balance of familiar Indian dishes and some of the chef's specialties and family favorites. This past visit we enjoyed the Lasuni Gobi (cauliflower appetizer), Dal, Tikka Masala and of course Naan. Everything is delectable, you cannot go wrong! Servings are generous and are easy to share as they are kind of served family style. If you're unfamiliar with Indian food, the servers can help you through the menu and many items are available with different spice levels to accommodate all. The food here is amazing, perfectly spiced. The service was awesome, the wait staff was very kind and checked in with us frequently. They also have us some good recommendations from the menu. Most of us had curry dishes wish were delicious. My parents ordered some cocktails which they liked and I had the chai which was great. The interior of the restaurant is nice and not too crowded. We've eaten both indoors and outdoors. They have a nice patio but I would recommend waiting until the sun goes down so it's not in your eyes. Also, I would recommend having a reservation when dining here. We've done that each time and when we show up the restaurant is quite full and seems very popular. I met some co-workers here for lunch a couple months ago and it was a good experience. The host and waitress were super nice and we were sat immediately. We ordered some drinks and apps. We stopped by for a weeknight dinner with a party of 10. We had made a reservation a few days before and were prompt seated right when we arrived. The head chef is from Kerala, which is where I am from in India! I was excited to see a few local dishes on the menu. We ordered the paneer, butter chicken, goat and chicken biriyani, cheese naan and Kerala paratha. It was all cooked so well and filled with flavor. I have visited now three times and especially enjoyed an eggplant special that was featured last week. I also love the shrimp korma and the chicken korma. Tonight we tried Kinaara! I have to say off the bat the waitstaff blew me away. The team was polite, asked if we had any questions, and was extremely personable. They made it easy to make a reservation and recognized it was us and seated us right away! The chef even came out and said hello too! Our table started out with the Marsala fries which were a hit. We ordered the chicken and paneer options. My wife and i ordered the butter chicken and tandoori chicken for entrees with a side of naan bread. We appreciated all the flavors and the bread really was to die for. We couldn't leave without trying the mango lassi. It was so tempting to drink it all before dinner came. First time trying kinaara since they moved to a new location and I was sadly disappointed to find the food quality had gone down hill significantly. First off, "old" kinaara was my favorite restaraunt in Omaha, I would recommend everyone to go there. If it wasn't for my past experience with kinaara I would be giving them a 2/5. Butter chicken is my favorite dish that they serve, the butter chicken that I use to get from them was life changing, the best Indian food I had ever had, period. This time I got tomato water butter chicken. It was so bland, I got it spiced medium and you would have thought it was spiced extra mild, no heat whatsoever. Overall no flavor, the chicken also tasted borderline raw but checking it in the sauce is near impossible. The Naan use to be pillowy soft, but still have really great structure, they would slap it with butter and herbs. This time I just got over cooked Naan, very dry, no butter. Also very thin, almost like a cracker and the Naan had no pull. I want to go back and try it again but $50 for 2 people is hard to justify with the food I got last time from them. Maybe eating it in house is a better experice but I ate it within 10 minutes of getting it so it really shouldn't be changing that much. read more

My friends and I visited Kinaara and we absolutely loved our experience here! We made a reservation ahead of time for Saturday, which I recommend since they can get pretty busy on weekends. The interior of design the restaurant is very aesthetic, decorated with lots of plants and vibrant colors. The food was incredible. We shared a plate of masala fries with paneer for appetizer. We each got an entrée and also shared garlic naan and tandoori roti. I tried the chicken tikka masala which comes with rice. Everything was absolutely delicious! The masala fries with Paneer was my favorite! The service here was also excellent. I was truthfully blown away by this Indian cuisine! The menu was small so I was a bit skeptical, but I'm so glad we were invited here for dinner on a Saturday night. They opened the location 2.5 weeks before, and the night was quite busy with every table full. It wasn't difficult to make reservations online. They overbooked but recovered quickly by scrounging up a table from the back. The apps we got were the chat samosa and the masala fries. Both amazing choices full of delicious spices and cooked well. For entree I got the pork cheek vindaloo, which was blasted with flavor and spice. The spice levels for dishes are mild, medium, hot, and very hot if my memory serves me right. You could order in between these levels, but some started at medium. My fish started at medium and was appropriately spicy, but this Viet girl can handle a lot of spice so beware! The pork was tender and perfectly cooked. Hubs got the fish pollichathu which was Atlantic salmon. He's from Alaska and is a salmon snob, but had rave reviews for this salmon. It was cooked to perfection wrapped in a banana leaf. May be the best salmon we've had served in any restaurant. That's saying a lot! The place was bustling and the owners stopped by our table to check in. The food took a while but may be due to how new it was and staff may be new as well. It was all well worth it though!
