We are actually obsessed with this spot - have tried through a lot of the menu and are never disappointed. The khao kloog is amazing and something I don't seem to find at other Thai spots. I typically skip pad thai at a lot of places because it feels boring but theirs is the best I've had in town. Spice levels are accurate, hot is good but definitely hot! Super quick for pick up orders and we've also dined in a couple times as well. I came here on a date to enjoy some thai food. It has a nice intimate cozy setting. There is some street parking but could be busy at peak times. We start off with spring rolls with peanut sauce. I got the green curry made thai spicy with prawns and my date had pad thai. I was ensured they could make gluten and dairy free for my meal of green curry and the spring roll to share. Overall, the food was good. It was flavorful and had tons of flavor. The service was on point and would come back again. read more

This was my go-to Thai spot when I lived down the street, and had the chance to revisit Kinara a couple times recently. I was excited to find it's still the best standard Thai in the city. Their wok hei, or breath of the wok, is unmatched, and kicks all of the stir-fry's up a notch or two. It's hard to describe, but each dish comes with the special slightly charred, caramelized flavor you only get from well-seasoned woks. I also really appreciate that they chop the vegetables into a manageable, similar size. Other thai joints will put a whole head of broccoli in that you can barely fit in your mouth. Kinara keeps the veggies and meats sized so you can get some of each in every bite. The curries and noodles are fantastic as well. Can't say enough about the food here. They do a lot of take-out business as the restaurant itself is tiny, and I would recommend checking your order after they pack it up before you leave. Head a few items missing from a recent online to-go order, which they quickly refunded after I called to let them know. I wish I still lived closer so this could be a more regular spot again. In a city with an over saturation of Thai food, Kinara really stood out to me. You get a ton of food for the price, great value. But on top of that it is SO good! This is a tiny restaurant with only a few tables. I think they make most of their money from take-out. Therefore, it is a place you can have a conversation over dinner. We enjoyed our green curry and pad Thai. The crispy spring rolls were light and flaky. Next time, and there will be a next time, I might get a bit adventurous. read more

Now this place is the ultimate throwback for anyone who went to Lincoln High School (ayyyy). Does anyone else remember standing in line for a to-go bowl of peanut chicken and rice to scarf down before hustling back to fifth period? The highlights: Kinara offers a decent selection of menu items, some of which are more familiar fare like papaya salad, salad rolls, and Tom yum soup, and some that I was less acquainted with (Nom Jean pla, pong ga ree, mee gra tee, to name a few). You'll still be able to order your typical fried rices and curries, so for those of you who approach Thai with expectations, fear not. Our meal included Tom kha with veggies, kabocha squash with egg, asparagus salad with coconut lime, and lettuce wrap larb. It is unfortunately my partner's and my "low carb" day, so no rice or noodles for us :( but Kinara made this silly little diet feasible. I would probably bathe in the Tom kha soup, and the flavor of the coconut lime with the asparagus was fabulous. And for $46 WITH tons of leftovers, we can't say we were disappointed. The improveables: Ever since COVID-19 this place has been take out only. No dine in option, unfortunately. I'm not quite sure why, seeing as it would be nice to be able to sit down and eat rather than having to pick up, but they probably have their reasons that I'm not going to question too deeply. Of our food, I found the larb to have a very strong, distinct flavor...I can't quite put the name to it, and it's not necessarily a gross flavor, but I think that whatever it was, it was too strong. The proximity to the high school also means that you might encounter some juvenile foot traffic, and as someone who lives across the street from the school I can tell you it can be cutthroat out there. Big nostalgia aside, Kinara is a lovely little neighborhood jewel, and they'll feed you well if you're willing to get up and go fetch your order. read more

This place is tiny and cute and makes excellent Thai food! I've gone twice and both times was so impressed at how fast they prepare your food. The service in general has been very prompt and it's clear they pay attention to detail. Tom kha soup - really good! I went with a friend who recently traveled to Thailand and he said that this bowl of soup brought him back to when he first tried it's coconut-spicy flavor in its own country. Their version had more veggies (big pieces of mushrooms, tomatoes, etc) which I was less excited about but gave it a little more substance than just broth. Mee gra tee - like a sweeter version of pad thai, also good if you know what you're getting into! Noodles and veggies were well-cooked and the dish was something I hadn't tried before. Pretty large portion size and makes good leftovers. Mango sticky rice - this was the first time I've ever had it so I can't compare it to anything else or tell how authentic it was, but I really liked it! To me the rice was a little dry but it was definitely sweet and milky and the mango was ripe. It was almost closing time and they still served us so I won't hold it against them! read more

Everyone needs a reliable Thai take out place, and this one is mine. I always order the same two dishes when I eat Thai food: drunken noodles and the squash curry. Out of all the places I've tried, I prefer how Kinara cooks them. The rice noodles are supple, but have a good chew. And the curry has good flavor, unlike other places that put too much coconut milk and not enough spices. Whenever I call in an order, it's usually only a 15 minute wait to pick it up. Prices are reasonable too. For nights that you don't feel like cooking, Kinara will solve your dilemma in a pinch. read more

So yummy and delicious. I have to confess, I have a soft spot for good Thai food. This restaurant did not disappoint. We started with warm tea and appetizers. Chicken satay, spring rolls and blue crab wontons. The apps were good, not remarkable but thoroughly solid. We all ordered different dishes so as to sample more of the menu. We had pineapple curry with chicken, green curry with duck, spicy eggplant with shrimp, drunken noodles with shrimp, and two daily specials: chicken with brussel sprouts and whitefish with green beans. Everyone enjoyed the food. It was a relaxing evening, we weren't rushed to finish, service was very attentive, atmosphere is intimate. Kinara Thai Bistro serves delicious Thai food in a charming and cozy atmosphere. The service is always outstanding. They are located a short walk from the Goose Hollow max station. Kinara Thai Bistro is one of our favorite places for Thai food in Portland. We've tried a variety of items on their menu and everything has been very tasty. They are vegetarian and vegan friendly. The dining area is made up of two rather small rooms that are beautifully decorated. The atmosphere is just lovely. Relaxing background music adds the perfect touch to a delightful dining experience. Custome service here is outstanding. The gentleman who waited on us today at lunch was friendly and attentive. He checked on us several times and refilled our water. This is true customer service. Kinara Thai Bistro is closed on Sundays and open from 3pm to 9:30 on Saturdays. Monday thru Friday they are open from 11 till 9. Their lunch menu on Monday thru Friday offers a great variety of items at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend Kinara Thai Bistro for delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and outstanding customer service. read more

I ordered delivery and everything was warm but that was the only good part. I've never had such bad pad thai in my life. I've traveled to Thailand and I have my favorite spots in SF and LA, however not being from Portland I went based on Eater's recommendation. I wish I had not! The noodles were bland with barely any egg, sauce, peanuts etc. I don't really understand how they made this dish so bad. I also ordered green chicken curry and papaya salad. The papaya salad was really bad as well and super sweet . It just tasted like papaya soaked in sweet water. The curry was ok but not great. 3.5 BACKGROUND - Chiang Mai is usually where you will find me when I'm hankering for Thai food, but hey, I like to branch out when I have those Entertainment coupons (B1G1). PROS - Very intimate setting. It is a rather small place so large parties (8+) will probably not fit. Great staff! Very friendly. 1. Drunken noodles w/ seafood medley - Great flavors, and they ain't messing around with their prawns and scallops either. Those bad boys (the prawns especially) are honkin' huge! CONS - I'm thinking instead of "cons", I should have "neutrals" because the following is based on personal preference: 1. Kinara's Pad Thai - Okay, I get it, fellow Yelpers claiming this is unlike your usual pad thai, that's correct. The same fellow Yelpers claiming this is more delicious than your average pad thai...I don't think so. I have made pad thai before, and this is what Kinara's version of Pad Thai tastes like to me: 80% tamarind sauce and 20% fish sauce. It was like eating honey pad thai. If that sounds delicious, then yeah go for it but for me, it was not very appealing. I drank SO much water after my meal because of the super sweetness and saltiness from the fish sauce. 2. Fresh Salad Roll - I went during lunch, for $1 more, you can add a fresh spring roll served with their "peanut plum sauce". Again, Kinara must have the biggest sweet tooth in all of the Portland Thai restaurants, the peanut sauce was not very enjoyable because it was SO sweet. I mean damn, I have a sweet tooth but this is overdoing it! POINTERS - Their drunken noodles were great. I appreciate how generous they were with their seafood combination. Some Thai restaurants skimp on this, but Kinara doesn't. I just wish they would go easy on the tamarind sauce. read more

We stopped here for lunch on a gloriously pleasant day in Portland. Who says it rains here? We haven't seen any so I guess the rumors are not true. The place is modern but very small, maybe 5-6 tables. The service was efficient and friendly. I got the prawns in curry sauce and it was excellent. The prawns were large, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The yellow curry was not very spicy. I added a chicken sate for $1. The wife got the beef with crimini mushrooms. The sauce is a basic soy sauce so it was a bit salty. The beef was good but a bit chewy. She added the blue crab wontons for $1. Overall, it was a good experience and exactly the light lunch that we wanted. read more

I've been pleasantly surprised with a few thai places i've had in portland, but kinara many dishes tasted completely different and lacked flavors and spices. With all the rave reviews i was caught off guard by the bland dishes that only had one flavor...sugar. Tasted completely different from all the places i ve had on my many culinary trips to thailand. Even the bad, very westernized thai restaurants here have more flavors and complexity than the dishes of kinara. I ve had alot of great food in thailand and also had alot of good and bad thai food around the world. But the top three worst thai dishes i ve ever had were from kinara tonight. Inedible dishes: -drunken noodles: the noodles were cooked wayyyy too long which made the entire dish extremely soggy and disgusting. I cant remember the last time i had noodles with this bad texture and overcooked! Had very mediocre flavor. -Pong ga ree prawns: wayyyy too sweet. Thats all you can taste in this dish. -green chicken curry: another dish that was wayyyyyy too sweet. Another dish that all you could taste was an overkill of sweetness. Mediocre dishes: -green papaya salad: nothing to write home about. Needed more acidity. At least this dish was edible. -Lettuce wrap larb: the flavor and seasoning of the ground chicken was good and pretty authentic. However, the ground chicken was so dry that it made this dish pretty bad. If they cooked the ground chicken better this dish would have been great. Good dishes: -Nom jean pla: this was the only dish that they did an authentic job cooking and had different flavors and spices, similar to tastes that you'd find in a restaurant in Thailand. I had to pour this sauce into other dishes to save those dishes. read more

Ordered from this place for the first time via DoorDash, and was not disappointed!! We ordered chicken pad thai, the garlic and pepper chicken, and the khaokloog. The pad thai was the only food that we all thought was sub-par. There was no flavor, very bland. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. I wish I had read reviews on this prior to ordering. Oh well. Now the khaokloog and garlic pepper chicken were DELICIOUS!!! So much flavor! The food was cooked to perfection! Seriously, order these and your tastebuds and belly will be happy. Kinara is hands down the best Thai food in Portland! The food is always incredibly delicious without fail, and surpasses any Thai place in the area by far. On top of that the staff is always incredibly friendly and take time to know their regulars and irregulars alike. They also are consistently accommodating with my allergies whether I am eating there in person, grabbing to go, or ordering from Uber eats. I cannot recommend Kinara enough! My mouth is still drooling I may have sirroleah tho. (Which is actually an actual symptom and that was you "the more you know" of the day!) Its hard to come across a really great Thai place but this by far exceeds expectations. Why you say??? O.O well let me explain it to you by interpret dance!!!!!! Food was out very shortly. Food/Drinks: Presentation was by far more than I expected. (But this is a guy that takes out pizza rolls and puts it in the microwave for 10 mins and expects them to look like the box image. [But why would they lie to me?!?! Spitting lizards! That's blasphemy!]) It was an art honestly. The mini burritos (which was like spring rolls) was like if heaven rented and apartment in my mouth with a low income. The curry melted in my mouth and I swear I saw how I would die in the future. In which I was content. (I mean getting into a fight with a turtle seems like a way to go! [I know.. it's pretty shellfish of me to die in such a glorious way!]) With combination of dessert and luscious beer. My stomach raised a white flag. (Defeated but content with life!) Conclusion: Did you ever want to go seat in a tiny restaurant and small bathroom space so everyone hears your ever forbidden sounds that should be ex out in Disney movies??? ._.
