YOU NEED TO WATCH YOUR FAMILY IF THEY ARE IN HERE Nicole left my dad sitting in his waste for a prolonged amount of time, fully aware of his situation. Nicole also tore a scab off of his mouth (which was scabbing because they do not provide oral care as they are required to do with patients on a trach) and made him bleed. He also has worsening bed sores, as they do not rotate the patients on bed rest as they should. My dad went 6 hours without being turned on Monday. He is in a coma and requires constant turning and care. I constantly call to make sure he's being cared for but I only feel he truly is being watched when I am there and constantly reminding the nurses to care for him.The nurses will try to tell you that they are taking care of your family and you do not need to worry or be present. They're just trying to get you out of the way so they don't have to tend to the patient. (My dad has also developed sores behind his ears due to the lack of support for his head when they rotate him from side to side. They often just let his head drop to the side and when I arrive I find him drooling on himself. This is heartbreaking.) On December 11th my father passed in this facility, although he was already in critical condition, Kindred did not provide any kind of comfort for him, instead neglected and made his last couple of months on Earth a nightmare. I had to file a complaint with the California Department of Health in order to potentially help other families who had to watch their loved ones suffer in Kindred's "care". In my 2567 form it states that their failure to provide proper care "had the potential to delay patient care, cause harm or injury, and/or death to patients." The CDPH has cited this facility and even though my father is no longer a patient I will follow up to ensure Kindred betters itself as they currently do more harm than good. read more

My darling husband who was only 65 years old, died at that godforsaken hospital. Somebody wrote a review that said do not let your family member stay there unless you want them to die and they were right and I should have Heed the warnings. My husband has been suffering from kidney disease and a very extremely bad sleep apnea , and has had two heart attacks. I understand that his health was extremely declining, he was on a lot of blood thinners because of his heart issue, one morning I was folding clothes upstairs and he fell down on our hardwood floors downstairs and smacked his head on the ground. I ran downstairs and there was blood everywhere. I called 911 immediately , they took him to inland Valley emergency room where they did an emergency skull surgery on him to release the blood cause he had brain bleeding, the next day his skull started filling up with blood yet again I opted to have the second surgery this whole time he was kept under heavy sedation. A Trach tube down his throat so he could breathe when he started regaining consciousness after the two skull surgeries he was not himself the surgeons at inland Valley were phenomenal.They told me he would never be himself again. They were correct. He was in that hospital for about a month and then he was transferred over to kindred , during that time, I had my older son who has had over 18 years of home care experience move back home , we painted our downstairs bedroom and we got everything ready, if my husband was going to be dying, I wanted him to die at home. We filled out the paperwork for IHSS for an inspection of my home. The caseworker at kindred her name is Mona. She is the caseworker for Kaiser Hospital. We gave her the paperwork. My Husband started regaining consciousness and kept asking for water and for food brandy is the speech therapist and I believe it is up to her if he can have water and food so we asked her to please remove the breathing apparatus so that he could eat and drink something that every human being on this earth should be able to do he did have a feeding tube that inland Valley put in. Brandi never fully communicated with me regarding the breathing apparatus. It was hurting him. He was always touching it every time he would touch it they would tie his hands and arms down very tight on the bed. I went there one time and he had marks on his wrists how barbaric I told the head nurse about it. She told me there is supposed to be at least 3 inch from the bed and the wrist for the restraints and there wasn't, my husband pulled out his own breathing tube because it hurt him and they wouldn't even check and see how his breathing was just to see if he could at least have some pudding , Brandy the speech therapist, which she should not be one, promised me that she would dive into that in detail so that he could have a couple of spoonfuls of vanilla pudding she was off fortwo days after the two days I went to her and I said, did you get any answers while I was walking She was walking down the hall and wouldn't even turn her head wouldn't answer me and wouldn't even look at me. I hope she's reading this because Brandy on my husband's birthday I gave him vanilla pudding and nice cold water. He did not have a breathing tube in his throat and he enjoyed it. That was the last thing that he was able to eat, on August 3 He was unresponsive. He had been at kindred for 54 days. He was only supposed to be there for three weeks we asked and we begged, for them to move him home. I wanted him to be home. The breathing apparatus was already removed out of his throat. There was no reason why he could not be sent home. I even asked Mona and she gave me a stupid story about that His general doctor from Kaiser needs to release him , she had the paperwork from IHSS for at least 2 1/2 weeks and did not communicate with me about my Husbands general Dr, so I got a phone appointment with the general doctor and he told me no he's under the care of kindred doctor so they were giving me the runaround because they wanted the money for my husband being there August 4. My husband died. He didn't get to die at home. I was married to him for 34 years. He was only 65 , August 24. I'm having a memorial for him in Whittier. That's where he grew up. My whole life is shattered because of the incompetence of kindred hospital. I know he could've lived longer If he was home with his family. That is what we all wanted. I had everything prepared. IHSS was going to come and do a home check , I finally got the date , from IHSS, which was strange , when Mona found out he was Unconscious and ready to die, she got on the paperwork, too late Mona! I will never forgive kindred for what they did to my life and my family. We are forever heartbroken , good luck if you guys have a family member that has to go there my husband was a good man. So apparently, I got my last review removed because I didn't give enough details, so let me give some details about the horrible care my aunt received at this place. They kept her sedated 24-7 they did not even attempt to start rehab for her. She was neglected hours of the day and not changed and was soiled every time we seen her. The staff is so unprofessional. We literally seen a female and male employee chasing each other through the halls like it was a playground. My cousin had to basically call 911 and forcefully removed my aunt from this horrid place. My aunt is now talking walking and almost 100% healthy. They have severe malpractice at kindred, and my cousin has complained to corporate and the medical board. Please use extreme caution when leaving your loved one here. Is that enough detail for you? Run the other way!!! read more

I am deeply disappointed with the care my father received at Kindred Hospital, where he recently passed away on 08/13/24. Throughout his stay, we encountered numerous issues, and I feel my father was severely neglected during his time there. The nurse called us to inform us that my father's heart had stopped and was brought back and asked what we wanted to do. After we requested full code, the nurse rudely responded, "You really expect me to do that all night? That's ridiculous. Know that he isn't going to make it through the night." While I understand the difficulty of the job, we were polite and respectful throughout the conversation, and for the nurse to respond in such an unprofessional and insensitive manner was completely unacceptable. Beyond that, my father was supposed to be turned/adjusted every two hours due to his condition, yet during my visits, this was never done. When I raised concerns about an open wound back in June, the nurses had no idea how it happened and told me it wasn't covered because the doctor wanted it to "air dry." I also requested extra pillows to help support his joints, but I was told they didn't have any available. On multiple occasions, I noticed that his urine bag was completely full, and the nurses said they were unable to change it. Oddly enough, whenever I contacted Steve, the main boss, the staff would immediately address these issues. However, during my visits, I was frequently denied basic care requests. It's frustrating that I had to escalate things to get any response, but Steve was the only helpful person there. My father's skin turned yellow at one point, and when I asked the nurses about it, they said they didn't know what the issue was but claimed it was wasn't anything serious. Ten days later, they called and told me he needed a blood transfusion because of his yellow skin--something they had brushed off earlier. Additionally, he was often left sitting in his own waste and placed on a broken bed. Reading the reviews of this hospital, it's clear that my father wasn't the only patient to experience this kind of neglect. During my last visit on 08/01/24, I stayed for four hours, and not a single nurse attended to my father, nor did anyone provide me with any updates. The adjustments that were suppose to take place every two hours weren't done at all. As I walked through the hospital, I noticed many staff members on their phones, laughing, and joking around--it all seemed very unprofessional. I spoke with a CNA who appeared to be working hard and doing his job, and he told me that a lot of staff don't pull their weight because certain groups "stick together and push others away," which I found very concerning. On 08/02/24, a care coordinator called me at 10:12 a.m., stating that they had found an ulcer on my father's right heel during an assessment and had ordered heel boots. She told me to call back if I had any questions. I called multiple times and left messages but never got a response. To add to the confusion, my father already had heel boots on during my visit on 08/01/24, so it's unclear why they claimed to be ordering them the next day. This just highlights the lack of attention they paid to his care and had me wondering how long was the ulcer really there. I also received several calls about discharging my father, which seemed rushed. I didn't understand the urgency, considering he was transferred to Kindred Riverside for long-term treatment. It felt like they were just trying to get rid of him. He was transferred there because he needed to be in a long tern acute facility. Lastly, another issue I found uncomfortable was that the staff constantly spoke Tagalog in front of me during my visits. Without understanding the language, I felt those conversations were directed at me, especially when I noticed staff giving me dirty looks afterward. This unprofessional behavior added to my discomfort and distrust. If you're considering Kindred Hospital, please be aware of the serious issues my family experienced. From neglect, unprofessionalism, and a general lack of care, this was a deeply disheartening and painful experience for us, and I hope no other families have to go through this. read more

I'd like to start off by saying my mom has been here for about a month now and from her words she liked it but there are a few things they do need to take care of and change. If you have a loved one here I'd definitely say check up on them A LOT call make urself known that the patient isn't alone so they have someone to speak for them. My Husband was admitted to this hospital on November 26, 2023. From the very first night it was a nightmare. A constant mismanagement of his care and personal belongings. We should have ran out of there. The facility is filthy. We had a few RN's that were Wonderful and caring, the rest of the staff could care less. My Husband left the facility on an emergency to another hospital. The belongings that did not travel with him to that hospital were just CARELESSLY THROWN AWAY BY STAFF MEMBERS. They were all CLEARLY MARKED with his name and room number. We are saddened and angry that there is no regard for these things. And NO ONE seemed to care, all I was told was, "Oh I'm so sorry Ma'am". What does that do? If it were Someones loved one on staff they would have done something about it. But then again, they probably wouldn't have their loved ones in this place. read more

NEW The 1st morning I went to see my husband. To my horror, he was half off the bed hanging on to rail stretching trake tube to its limits and laying in his waste. How long? I even called the facility the evening before, to warn them about his extreme anxiety, that he tries to get out of bed. Everyone said no one told us. That same day, after we cleaned him up and situated him, the nurse comes in to administer his iv meds. Happy as can be. Later she comes back in laughing, saying she may have mixed up his meds with another patients and puts on her glasses. Most times I never knew what infections he got because no one knew the results. They will always go check and never come back or tell me there not in yet. A few weeks in, I noticed the inside of his mouth had brown crystallized gunk growing on his tongue, roof of mouth and all over teeth. Asked the nurse how long does it take for a mouth to get this bad. She said 2 to 3 days. I helped change him and noticed a very small bedsore. They treated it and said it's almost gone. Yay! Well my husband started going down hill. We had agreed with supervisor that it's time to turn off life support on January 7th. This was your worst nightmare. It was suggested tomorrow (Monday the 9th) to start this process. No I said. I need Time to process this. Can we start Wednesday? I go to see him Tuesday and his arms were moving, he was lifting up his head and mouthed "how are you?" His crystal blue eyes radiant. How beautiful he is". Of course I cancelled the end of life procedure. His secretions were a bit of green color so I asked why? Facility said they will run some blood work. Well wowie!!! They received results and said blood work almost normal. The facility then called me and told me he would be transported to madison grove facility either tonight or tomorrow. Great!!!! No infection, no bedsore. 1st day at new facility we found out my husband has "CANDIDA AURIS". By the way, when your bedridden you should be re-positioned every 2 hrs.which my husband was not.. here's a picture of his 'almost healed bed sore. Lol Here is a picture of it. This man has gone through so much more neglect at this facility, it could make a horror movie. We did have a few great Lvns and CNAs. Victoria, i am forever grateful for your care, concerns and kindness. As well as your professionalism. An Rt. Omg I forgot her name. Darlene? Older woman, nice knowledgeable and professional. She was my saviour when i was holding my husband up while nurse left for a minute to get more lotion.. i couldnt hold him up anymore so i started yelling for help. This is the place from hell. My husband was in this facility for 3 days unresponsive and there seemed to be no conerns so I had to dial 911 to get him out. They told me I coild not take my husband from here and I have to wait 3 days. That was a joke the almulance took him back to the hospitol and they said his bladder was so extended that if I had waited another day to get him out of there he might have died. No place can tell you that you can not take a loved one out of their facility and that was what they did to me. My uncle was admitted to this hospital and I honestly had high hopes that he was in good hands despite the reviews but we were in for a shock. Please take in regard of all the horrible reviews of this place as they are all 100% true. The "nurses" or "doctors" whatever they are at this point, do not care for the people that are in their hands. My uncle was dying in their hands simply because they did not clean his breathing tube & was fighting for his life! We took action into our own hands and called the ambulance and as soon as he got to an actual hospital they said if no one called 911 he would have died. The doctors from Riverside University Health Systyem were shocked at the condition my uncle was left due to the actions of Kindred Hospital. I don't understand why they don't treat their people in need like actual human beings instead of animals. Actually, I'm sure animals at a animal hospital are treated better then the human beings in this place. They are careless, unaware, and ignorant. I'm a firm believer that if you do not like your job, you shouldn't be working there & this goes to all the staff in kindred hospital. Long term acute care facility. Physical therapy doc was ok. Nurses ok, but other doctors don't communicate at all. Took almost two weeks for him to sign death certificate. Didn't consistently serve him vegetarian diet. And don't think they washed his hair, but maybe once. read more

If you have other options for your loved ones please go there, this place is bad news. No proper nurse training, no sense of urgency, and doctors are laid back and don't give a crap about the patients. In addition, the nurses are rude and don't know what they are doing, especially head nurses, who are in charge of the facility. I have complained on more than several occasions to no avail to correct or rectify anything. One nurse (by the name of Adam) behaved like a prison warden getting upset and being rude to the family members, rather than being a sympathetic nurse towards patient's family. My dad (may God rest his soul), who was not in the best of shape when he arrived there, definitely didn't deserve to be in this crap place where there was no importance or regard to life. Riverside Community Hospital did an injustice with me and did not tell me the truth about this place and how it REALLY is. I would've taken my father to a different long-term care facility with better reviews and staff/nurses/doctors who care. The quality of care here is better than one of the top hospitals in the nation, which is a Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage California. The care quality was impeccable. It wasn't about quantity. It was about quality. It wasn't how many patients he got in the door. It was how many patients he took care of, and got well unlike Eisenhower Medical Center. My husband was in this facility for 2 weeks in June 2024. During that time his care was deplorable. Their food is disgusting. They do not provide enough caregivers for the patient load. RNs seem to be good, but their support staff (LVNs and CNAs) are spread to thin. My husband was left sitting in urine soaked and feces fouled bed for hours (2-4) with out response. My husband called me several times after waiting for 1.5 to 2 hours for a bed cleanup asking me to call the nurses station for help. It took me 2-3 calls spaced at 30 minutes apart before they would get to him, thus totaling close to 4 hours laying in his own waste. He left there with numerous deep bed sores that have not healed in the last 30 days, due to their severity. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE TO THIS FACILTY. It appears to me that most of the people in this facility are just waiting to die. That was not the case with my husband. Also this is supposed to be a facility that specializes in patients with lung and breathing issues. My husband has COPD complications and retails CO2. His oxygen was mismanaged the whole time he was their. The pulmonary director seems well educated, but does not see the patients, nor does he train his staff in the proper management for these types of patients. My husband was removed from the facility with grossly exagerated CO2 retention. Normal range is 35-45, when he got to the hospital he was a 91 on a scale of 100. If you don't want your loved killed, don't take them here. read more

I'm more than disappointed with what just recently transpired at this facility with my sister...they told us, in person, when we were there that we should talk to her through the window (due to Covid) that they "knew she could hear us because she cried whenever they would read all the cards we would send" they told us multiple times that they would play songs, and read every card we sent. Well my sister was moved and is now on hospice at a facility closer to us here in Orange County...we picked up her belongings and I sat yesterday morning, on my porch, going through her things and wanting to read all of the cards that were sent to her...my sister has hundreds of friends and people that love her, when I saw the stack of cards at the bottom of the bag..I could immediately tell that not ONE OF THEM HAD BEEN OPENED....ohhhhh the lies!! Why? For what? Shame on you....shame on you for making us think you were sending our love since we couldn't go inside due to Covid....shame on you Kindred Hospital....that is despicable and gives a widespread negative connotation about all care facilities and a general sense of mistrust. My mom had a severe medical incident that led her to being st Kindred. Since her time there, her health and prognosis has greatly improved. The entire staff has been very helpful. They have set up weekly zoom meetings, and during difficult times like these, those zoom meetings are a life line. This is the WORST place I have ever encountered. I hope people read these before letting your loved ones be transferred there. My daughter was very ill and had been for months. She was at riverside community for several weeks. She was started to get up a little. They said she would get extensive physical therapy to help her gain strength. She went in on a friday. The day they sent her she was tested for covid and it was negative. She got there and a night nurse literally told her to get transferred out of that facility because she'll die. The next morning after my daughter told us this she was "diagnosed with covid and we were not allowed to see her. We continually questioned what was going on. No one knew anything. We could not get any info. We couldvsee her through a window and talk on the phone. We literally stood there and watched her ask for help to potty and be crying because it was 45 min later and they hadnt come. We called staff while standing out there. They were rude, hateful to her and us. She was terrified and begged us not to say anything else because of how they did her after we spoke. There way to much wrong to list. I read about working with your doctors. Thats not true. They go there and your dr gone and they do not have a doctor on site. My daughter lasted a week and a half. So much wrong and we cant do a thing. The worst was watching my daughters lonely terrified face as they killed her and not be able to do anything. A person I'm very close to was a patient at this facility, the only one of it's kind that I'm aware of in Riverside County. They handle primarily infectious diseases. Cosmetically & comfort-level, just so so. BUT, the big deal in my opinion is the staff medical treatment. They absolutely pay close attention to the patients, are careful and they are professional. Very little gets past them. Due to COVID, there were what I initially felt were overly restrictive require- ments, however, I quickly decided the restrictions were entirely appropriate. They not only wanted to protect patients & staff, they wanted to protect the visitors. As is the case with most healthcare facilities, getting hold of the case manager is sometimes a challenge, but I found all staff to be professional, respectful and mostly kind. If I was in the precarious position of needing treatment for a life-threatening infection, this is a place I think I'd want to be. The only reason they got a 4 & not a 5 is because they also, like many healthcare facilities, are sometimes short-staffed. Apart from that, no complaint. What I've found with healthcare facilities, for the most part, is that when they know the patient has someone looking out for them & paying attention to what's going on, if you bring it to the attention of the appropriate person (rather than ranting), a lot of times, it gets straightened out. I would like to thank the staff at Kindred Hospital. My brother was in their care for 2 months, and I finally was able to meet some of the staff that took care of him. I first meet the Jereni' Baker, who is relentless in her efforts to help both patients/ family of the patients. She has very calming presence. I really can't say enough. She was usually s walking up and down the hall. I also talked with his case manager Jennifer and DeDe, they were very informative and helpful. The staff is working the best they can in the middle of a pandemic. My brother was treated with respect, my brother became found of a couple of the staff there, he had nice things to say of the staff that he got to know. Even the people who handle the meals there, took extra care they soon found out how much he liked a few things and always made sure he had them one of which was a never-ending flow of coffee. Please please consider another facility. My husband was a post ECMO patient and transferred here and wasted 5 weeks of doing nothing. No consistent schedule with Physical Therapy or RT. Lack of care for the patients lack of Communication with patients let alone family. None of the nurses were able to answer any basic questions. They were quick to medicate my husband with pain medicine to use that as an excuse not to do PT. Never met the Dr. The assistant physician we saw him maybe 4 times if that and was not helpful at all. None of the nurses could answer any of our basic questions. Needless to say we transferred him out after getting our insurance involved. read more

I currently have a family member in this facility and I can promise you, that you will be disappointed with the quality of care your loved one will receive there. The care from the nurses is the bare minimum at best. For example, poor hygiene caused skin irritations and we highly suspect he's being over medicated on weekends for nurse convenience. Moreover, we've heard nurses argue in the hallway over who is going to change my cousin. Ridiculous! The physical therapy he gets is minimal and we find ourselves having to ask for more time to be dedicated toward his physical therapy. If we ask for meds to alleviate a stomach ache that our loved one is having, the nurse responds rudely as though it's an inconvenience. Multiple family members and I notice that when we stand up for our loved one, by asking nurses to do their job, they will respond with an attitude. One family member overheard a nurse complaining about her requests in the parking lot of the facility. Yes, the nurse was confronted for such unprofessional behavior. This is the type of facility that needs to be audited and investigated, or at the very least, have nurses replaced with healthcare professionals who know how to do their job and do so with respect and kindness for the patients. We are in the process of filing complaints with multiple investigative entities at the moment. read more

We have reached out to corporate to express our concerns and complaints only for them to direct us to this facility instead of conducting a proper investigation into the facility. The head of kindred hospital riverside sent me a letter disregarding most of my complaints/concerns in regards to improper treatment while my dad was hospitalized there,and also in regards to the staffs carelessness to put my deceased father into a hallway in order to bring in a new patient to take my dads room. They do not care,they simply said they "hoped" to reduce the patients wait time when calling a nurse because the current amount of time they take to respond to patients calls is "normal"..I don't believe a patient waiting for a nurse for 30min to an hour during an emergency should be be considered normal. read more

Communication with spouses and other family members by some staff at this facility is a nightmare. If you continue to ask for the most basic info about your loved one - doctor's name (in our case, the cardiologist) or test results, one nurse in particular will walk away from you. Touch her shoulder to get her attention & she'll call security. We waited SIX WEEKS to even learn the name of Mom's cardiologist. If you get too insistent about asking, you'll find a Sheriff paying you a visit in your loved one's room or in the parking lot. A few nurses & doctors are wonderful - they put the "kind" in Kindred. But the woman in charge (initials A.D.) is extremely narcissistic. The patient liaison/advocate needs to look up the definition of the words in her job description. The jury's still out on whether the family will have any say at all about what sub-acute facility Mom will be transferred to. The woman in charge seems hell bent to transfer her as far away from the family residence as possible. When my dad objected, A.D. told him he didn't "have as much power as 'he' thought he did". My dad gets so upset by them on a daily basis, I'm afraid he'll be hospitalized soon. read more

I really wish this hospital would give more updates when you call and ask. I feel like the morning nurses do a good job explaining what's going on when we call to get an update on my father. But the night nurses have no clue what is going on. They will say they are to busy and will tell us they will call us back and never do. All we want is a simple update. Whoever answers phones is also very rude. They don't greet when they answer and they don't know how to transfer a call. It's to the point where we are calling my fathers case manager to get him transferred out of this horrible place. read more

Well, not sure how someone supposedly from San Francisco has an opinion about a hospital in Perris, but their opinion is vague at best. This place is small, only 40 beds AND you have to share a room. It would seem that visitors must check in before being able to see their relative as there is a receptionist and what appeared to be locked doors to the "hospital" part of things. They were cleaning the floor when we visited, which makes for a terrible impression when you want to bring in a respiratory patient that would not be able to breath if they smelled cleaning agents. (I DO know that they have to clean them sometime, I just wish they could find a less odor offensive cleaning solution) I just wanted to give other people like me that maybe looking some more info, without having to travel there. Only been open for a short time. No reputation here yet, as far as I am aware. read more

My husband was brought here on a vent. He was takeon off of as soon as they saw it was tested for ly.g function. That was great. The dietitian can to ask about likes and dislikes and was he was able to eat. His care was very good.cna a were very good. Pleased with care given by staff doctors. My Only Complaint was the noise in hallways and the cafeteria hours are short and no dinner is served. Weekends they are closed. So if you stay with your family member yo u have to leave to eat. But I would recommend this hospital. read more

I can't believe I lived to tell you the horror stories of this place. I was first put into icu here, I wasn't conscious at this time, but my family was so concerned about this facility, that they hardly left me alone. And now I know why, when I was moved to the main floor- I was in here for three weeks. The nurses were on their phone full time, my family would have to retrieve them every few hours they wanted something for me. They would let other patients sit in their own mess for hours. I would push the call button for those less able. My family had to request I be moved from a room where a patient screamed for hours at the top of his lungs.
