Next, we ordered the Cinnamon Roll with cream cheese icing in a hot skillet (don't miss this yummy treat), and and ordered of the Deviled Eggs. For our mains, we ordered Eggs Benedict and the Virginia Breakfast. Both were prepared as requested and were delicious. King & Rye is a good brunch location. We tried it on a Sunday with a reservation. The food menu was limited, but had a variety on it that most people will find something to their liking. I enjoyed their cheeseburger, which was very small on size and big on flavor. I also liked their cubed tater tots. The whiskey selection is sufficient also to find something on it. Price was in line with most restaurants on King street, but not on the inexpensive side. They were busy and the wait staff was attentive. Food service was good. It only took a little over 5 minutes from the time we ordered when the food arrived to our table. I'll consider coming back for their supper menu to see how it is. We stopped in for dessert and drinks late in the evening. The bar is currently short of chairs, so it took sometime to get into it, but it was a great place to sit. In honor of the weather, I had a dark and stormy and the rains came pouring down just as my drink was served. What timing. Be aware that desserts on their website may not be current. On the website, they listed a cobbler, banana pudding and a chocolate peanut butter bacon bar (which sounded too interesting not to try), but when we arrived, different desserts were available. We wound up with a very sweet large cookie baked in a cast iron skillet and not enough ice cream and an average cheesecake with berry. Good vibe, good service. I came here for an evening dinner recently with my family, and we really enjoyed the food. Many of the foods at King & Rye have a Southern-influence. The dinner menu is not very extensive, but there are enough options to choose from. I had the North Carolina Rainbow Trout which sat in an onion bisque with corn succotash and peppers. This is not a food pairing I am used to, but the trout tasted amazing with the bisque. For our starters, we shared the cornbread, deviled eggs, and the pimiento cheese with crackers. One of my family members ordered the pork chop with grits, and another ordered the cheeseburger with waffle fries. I tried a spoonful of the grits, which sat under the pork chop and sautéed greens, and the grits were buttery and cheesy. Abject I saw poor reviews and I thought, no people just need to be more understanding with staff shortages but there is plenty of staff here. I felt rushed. I booked for a 9:15pm reservation as I was flying in. I started getting texts at 8:30pm telling me my table was ready. I had to rush to drop my bags off my at my hotel fearful that my table was going to be given away. I get there and the place is dead. No atmosphere. The floor has marks on it. There's even table and chairs inside with patio furniture. Within a minute of sitting down my server was demanding to know what I wanted to eat. Literally I order a drink and it was "and for food". I said I needed a minute. My drink was an inconvience. I asked for an Old Fashioned with Rye. Considering the place is called King and Rye, I don't think that's unreasonable but the server acted stunned and was clearly condescending over it. Then as soon as the drink arrives, hounding me for the food order. Clearly wanted to go home. I ordered the steak and was recommended to add the roasted veggies (upcharge). Fine. The steak was due to come with parsnips. The food arrives. No parsnips. I asked and got told "I told you sir to order the roasted vegetables". First, you told me? What am I? Five years old? Second, parsnips are a roasted vegetable. Clearly there is pressure to upsell guests and then remove items promised as part of the main course in the hope guests don't notice. I ordered a 2nd old fashioned. The server comes back later saying "did you really want that again?" They're not short staffed. There was 3 people gossiping at the host stand for 15 minutes. What a wonderful time we had at King & Rye today for brunch! It's connected to a boutique hotel in a busy square off King Street. The menu is limited but with the best selections and pairings. We started with the deviled eggs, which were seasoned perfectly and delicately garnished with a green bean. For our entrees we had the Virginia Breakfast and Shrimp Shrimp and Grits. Everything was fresh and beautifully plated! The grits were surprisingly light, but rich! I didn't miss the cheese that I expected at all! This spot is dog friendly as the hotel (The Alexandrian) is also dog friendly. We had limited options as we had a baby and a dog. Outdoor seating is nice enough which is why they get one star. Ok, so the bad. 1. Our server had his mask on below his nose. Smh not the way to wear a mask as it's less effective. How does his staff not reprimand him of his mask wearing? We clearly saw him inside wearing it the same way. 2. My coffee cup came out with a lipstick smudge which made me doubt the cleanliness of this place. 3. We got the eggs Benedict, chicken fried chicken, and Virginia breakfast. Everything was hard and dry. My poached eggs were cooked perfectly though. Considering, we were there at 9 am (open at 8 am) how was the food so hard? My guess is that they premade a huge batch during their morning prep around 7 am or so. Our food came out surprising quick (which probably confirms my suspicions). It was quite unfortunate that something as simple as breakfast can't even be done fresh. I had a reservation here on a Sunday at 12pm, with my brother and mother accompanying me. The restaurant has dim lighting and sort of a dark atmosphere to it. We ate off the brunch menu, which unfortunately had varying reviews. I opted for the Virginia breakfast, which included : toast, potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and bacon. The scrambled eggs with cheese were very good and I appreciated how they added chives to it. The potatoes are very big and tasted of an old bay seasoning, and were perfectly crisp. Now the bacon was more of slices of pork belly, it was very oily and fatty. The toast for sourdough bread but was not good to me. I'm not sure what it was , but it was very dry and honestly tasted stale to me. My mother ordered shrimp and grits which were absolutely delicious. They were well seasoned and I wish I would've order that instead. The shrimp had a sausage like aroma, which was divine. My brother opted for the pancakes, these were not anything to write home about as they were kind of dry, and weren't my typical type of pancake. If you love the crispy edges and soft in the middle pancakes, these are not for you. We also ordered the deviled eggs, which were spicy as heck. I actually think they put the Devil in the egg. Maybe we had a bad batch but I love spice and this made me eat with caution. Now for the server, she was pleasant but did very minimal to enhance the eating experience. Per example not asking if we needed any condiments and not checking on us within good amount of time. It felt as if she was very distant or just very dry with our table. The cost for our meal was $69.95 , which I believe was fair including we also ordered a Bellini which was good. read more

My wife and I went to King & Rye for brunch on a beautiful Saturday. The restaurant was not too busy so we were seated right away. The restaurant is beautifully set up and plenty of space between the tables to maneuver around. We were greeted right away by our server. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Visited King & Rye for a nice patio Breakfast/Brunch today. My friend and I started off with deviled eggs and a peach Bellini which both were delicious. I had the classic breakfast .. which I thought I was playing it safe and I was so disappointed I'm not sure why anyone likes bacon that thick... but I was not a fan. Eggs were fine and the potatoes were a little bland. My friend has the eggs Benedict and she had the same thought about the bacon and also had to add salt and pepper to her potatoes. The bar service here is my favorite! I come here specifically for the seared scallops, which are a seasonal menu item! They never disappoint! On top of great main dishes the drink menu is so fun! I ordered the crab cakes, worst I've ever had... so bad I needed my friend to try it to make sure I wasn't overreacting, she also said it was the worst she's had. We both ordered the short ribs, the menu said it was over a farro risotto, there was no risotto present, just farro in the short rib juices, the short rib was very tender which was great, it just needed more seasoning. The last call was 9:30 pm, even on a Friday night which was way too early, especially since it is attached to a Marriott. Service was very hospitable. I had the Girl Scout Cookie Bourbon Taster. The bartender was trying to close, but she served us anyway. The taster was good, but I would have rather just had a good chocolate dessert and a good Buffalo Trace. If I had one suggestion for the establishment, it would be to stay open longer. Two or three couples wanted to patronize the establishment but turned away because of the early closing. read more

My friends and I really wanted to try an igloo experience before the season ended. We found King and Rye which was $100 to reserve, the most affordable igloo we could find. When we arrived, we were so impressed! Outside on the patio, there were three igloo's. When we walked inside the igloo, there were eight chairs, although we only needed five. The floral decor was beautiful and they even had a speaker that allowed us to connect our phone to play some vibes. We had to keep the door open due CDC guidelines. There was a heater but it was not doing much of anything. I froze the most of the night. The only menu that you're allowed to order off of is the Greenhouse menu, not the supper menu. I didn't like this because the Greenhouse menu limited guest to family style meals and small plates. So instead of doing that we just ordered a bunch small plates. Those small plates included sweet potatoes, devil eggs, meatballs, and cauliflower just to name a few. The best things I had were the deviled eggs and the sweet potatoes to die for. I also ordered the "Mulled Wine", a warm alcoholic drink. All in all, this was such a dope night with the girls, I'm glad I got the chance to do this with them! xo read more

Located in the Alexandrian Hotel on King Street, King & Rye is a welcome addition to the area. We came here on a Saturday for brunch around 11:30 and found ourselves to be one of four tables inside. They also had an igloo that was being rented outside. The space is small but cozy and our service was top notch. They even have a kid's menu with crayons! Keep in mind it's only tables and no booths. The brunch menu is small but has a variety of options ranging from the more diet conscious egg white omelette to the savory and rich chicken and biscuits. The kid's menu has only a few choices, but my son was very happy with his 2 pancakes with bacon. The bacon is super duper thick which kind of threw him off. The pancakes themselves were light and fluffy. My partner had the chicken and biscuits, which he said were excellent but very rich; so rich that he was unable to finish the dish. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. There were several pieces of plump whole shrimp, nice chunks of ham, and the grits was quite creamy. Adding the specially branded KR hot sauce was a nice way to elevate the spice level of the dish. The coffee was better than, say, Starbucks (I loathe Starbucks coffee though); however, let's talk about those $5 mimosas. Typically when I see $5 brunch drinks, I expect a 90/10 ratio of oj to champagne, but that was not the case here! The bubbly tasted higher quality than an average $5 mimosa and the proportions were more like 80/20 in favor of the champagne-exactly my kind of beverage! The bar looks nice for a date night as does the courtyard in the warmer months. I look forward to returning again to enjoy dinner and drinks! read more

Really great dining experience! The hostess was very sweet and seated us promptly. Our server was great as well and helped out with selecting the perfect pair of drinks (I recommend Beautiful Friendship). We ordered the biscuits and apple butter which reminded me of being in my grandmother's home. The shrimp and grits were the perfect amount and creamy and cheesy. Finished the meal off with a very delicious banana pudding (the homemade kind; not that banana flavored pudding with wafers). A really great date night spot or great for drinks! Ordered eggs, bacon, toast , coffee and orange juice. Sounds simple , but not for the king and rye. Didn't get the bacon, toast and orange juice at first serve. Coffee was lukewarm. Eventually got bacon when I asked again, but what I got was a chunk of fat with a tiny meat edge. Last time I'm going there. I've never heard of this place before but of course I love a new try! It is literally right off of King Street next to the Marriott hotel. Parking is easy to come by. We sat in the main dining room. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. The waiters and busers were very attentive. So we started off with drinks. We had mimosas and Bellinis which were tasty! They was more alcohol than juice which is a good thing. Then, we continued with a round of deviled eggs and a cinnamon roll. The devil eggs were delicious but I found the string bean decoration to be pointless. You could put a piece of shrimp on top, Buffalo chicken, or just parsley. The cinnamon roll looked a little burnt upon coming to the table but you don't taste it. I definitely enjoyed it! Onto our meals! The menu is very limited. There are basic breakfast choices for the most part. I had the chicken biscuit in a cream sauce. I imagined a smothered fried chicken biscuit. No that is not what I received. The chicken was shredded baked chicken on two halves of a biscuit in a cream sauce with eggs your way on top. I did not care for my meal. The flavors didn't come together as I expected. We were staying next door at The Alexandrian and stopped by for a "blackberry crumble" dessert to go, expecting, y'know, some sort of warm, fruity, baked cobbler-like dessert. Instead, we got a shallow dish with a handful of shortbread crumbs, 10 plain cold blackberries plopped straight out of the punnet, and a half scoop of ice cream (but we substituted vanilla for the dark chocolate). What?! It took fifteen minutes to get and cost over $10 after tax and tip. If I were the chef, I would be so embarrassed to serve something like this - especially for the price. This was without question one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Cooked perfectly medium rare and tasted phenomenal. The cheese, onions, and sauce on it just combined so well. It was $16 which was one of the cheaper dishes on the menu, but after this meal, I want to go back and try other dishes too. It came with these unique cubed tator tots which were also awesome and it filled me up. I came here on Derby Day by recommendation from I Dont Do Clubs founder, Genese Jamilah. Normally everything she recommends issa Vibe but hunnay...NOT tuhday! Advertised on their website is: "Join us for the biggest day in horse racing - the Kentucky Derby - and sip on Mint Juleps while sporting your best hat. Enjoy the race! We will be open for brunch and dinner. Coverage of the Kentucky Derby beginning at 12pm on May 1st" I walk in that bish Sunday, May 2 for my 1:30p rez and it was dryyyyy. They didn't even have the derby on the TV screens. I inquired about the derby being shown and the hostess says--we'll show it for our dinner service. Umm hi hello, the Derby starts at 12:30 by dinner it'll be over? There was no DJ, no decorations, no hype--no VIBE. I shoulda took my ass to Ozios. K&R if you read this...next time you advertise a promotion or event work with one of the DMVs hundreds of promoters. They are ITCHING to partner on events and will bring in huge crowds Anyway lets get to the food. I was not impressed with the food.
