I'm here in Salt Lake with my crew and we just got here, so trying to find our bearings as to where we need to be and imprtantly, where to get some good food. I know my crew well enough that I can keep everybody happy at a Chinese buffet and seems almost every city and small town has one! This KIng Buffet is one of the most common names for Chinese bufftes it seems. This location was easy enough to find with the GPS and parking was easy. Going inside it look pretty decent sized, bigger than a lot of small town buffets we've been to. Service was efficient, but you know typical Asian efficirncy, not to make conversation like at Applebee's or something. All the foods you'd expect were here and looking fresh and hot. Sushi was available as well, but I usuall just stick to hot foods when it comes to buffets. The general chicken was good as were the noodles. They had ribs as well, and some of my guys really cleaned up on those. I'd bring the crew back here again if we were in the area. Everybody gets exavtly what they want. read more

I love oriental food. To me, chinese food is a staple right there with pizza, and burgers. I feel like most chinese places are all "pretty good" good sauce, very tender meat, etc. It's very rare to find one that is exceptional, and also rare to find one that's bad. That said, i think buffets in general are a grade lower. Generally far more greasy, bland, tender meat if fresh though rarely is unless you dine during dinner rush. Kings buffet has the two locations we go to. The one off of redwood 5700s ish. And the one on state street about 3700s ish. OUt of the two i prefer the one on state. It seems like the mongolian is generally a bit better. Mongolian is the part i like the most. The family likes the buffet and variety. I wish there was a way for me to get a "by the plate" Mongolian. I feel like i overpay for the endless buffet i don't even use. I know i could get it to go in a to go container and pay by the pound, but that's if not dining in. I wish they worked on the buffet a bit. Less greasy, less bland, Maintain freshness. When not during the lunch or dinner rush, maybe make them in smaller portions, more frequently. Also a big thing for me. During lunch rush the mongolian has shrimp. During the dinner rush it has a slightly nicer beef. Also the choices of veggies varries between the two. I wish at the very least, keep the veggie selection the same. I feel like either way i'm getting half of the dish i really want, but paying for a buffet i don't even utelize. read more

The buffet is decent. I'd say slightly above average. I love chinese food. But it's well known buffets are generally more greasy food, not quite as good. That said, the mongolian, is AWESOME! I love it. Even more than actual "mongolian grill" places. I mostly go there for the mongolian, the buffet is more of a side dish for me. Service is great, atmosphere is great! read more

The buffet is okay. Like most chinese buffets, very greasy, and can be very dry if not during the lunch or dinner rush. Where it really shines is the mongolian. I love the mongolian and pretty much come here just for that. I enjoy it even more than actual full blown mongolian places. At least they can say they have something for everyone. If you want some Chinese food but not sure what to buy. This place is for you. From Chow Mein, Fried Rice, to seafood and even fried food, they have a lot of different choices to choose from. On top of that. They have sushi/rolls to choose from as well as a Mongolian Noodle station where you build your own noodles, put whatever ingredients your heart desires and you'll be good to go! To top it off, they have salad and a bar for sweets and deserts. My favorite go to are their friend chicken with California rolls with hot and sour soup. This place isn't that bad. It can be a miss at times as sometimes the food isn't consistent. But for the most part it's good! Service is nice too. Would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Lots of Gluten Free and Wheat Free options. I asked for help as I was being seated and he walked me through the entire buffet letting me know what I could eat (wheat free). This place is busy but the food is not the best, I've had better quality. The food is somewhat plain and could use more seasoning. I try the bbq pork ribs but they were not seasoned enough and were too dry. I got my soda refill from a water pitcher and it was not fresh for sure because there was little carbonation and tasted water down. Soda should be refilled straight from soda dispenser. Food should be tasted prior to bringing them out for customer. Probably won't go back for sure. read more

Rating this place one star would be too generous. I thought this would be a nice place to hang out with family after a long trip, but I was mistaken. The girl at the front desk was incredibly rude and had an attitude towards us. While one of my family members was eating the steak, there was a black, thick string of hair. Service: 4 Star -Every time we have gone the waitstaff has been attentive to drinks, clearing plates and have been quick with the check. Sushi: 2 Star -This sushi is just not very good. I love sushi and have tried many dedicated sushi restaurants and even some of the various grocery store sushi and this doesn't even measure up to that. Even a WinCo California roll is far better than this. The "Chinese Food": 2 Star -We have eaten here several times at different times of day, on different days, and I've never had any of the food really taste fresh. The Sesame chicken was oily, soggy, and had way too much breading. The General Tso didn't even taste as good as store-bought frozen Chinese. The Broccoli beef wasn't too bad. Fried dumplings were okay. All things considered, it was slightly below average. Mongolian BBQ: 3.5 -For the relatively small amount of options, it's pretty good. Nothing like a dedicated Mongolian BBQ restaurant, but it has enough to give you a good fix. It seems to be the star of the show. Seafood: 2 Star -I wouldn't go here for seafood. Dessert Options: 3.5 Star -Good, not much to say about it. There's jello, puddings, cookies and other sweet treats, including a soft serve ice cream machine. It's Americanized dessert. Nothing special. The restaurant is generally clean, so no complaints there. All in all, if you want to just eat a lot of food, the lunch price is fair. Nope, never again. I'm not sure what happened to this place but a large portion of the food is now inedible. Let's start with the sushi. It's terrible. And I'm not a picky eater. I do the half of sushi places with no issue. I even like the Costco sushi. The limited amount of raw seafood was just old and fishy tasting. I hope I don't get sick from the 3 pieces I ate. Just a hard pass. Next onto the hot food bar. This had some ok items, noodles, sweet and sour chicken. But also lots of dried flavorless items. The beef and broccoli was 95% broccoli with 5% dried up beef Lastly and most importantly the cleanliness. This place is filthy. From the carpet (why have a carpet in a restaurant?). I dined during the buffet's lunch period. The Mongolian grill and sushi bar were open, as well as the food islands. I tried their seafood bake, which is imitation crab with a white sauce and cheese. This pairs well with their shrimp from another food island. Their baked fish was good as well. Just be careful with the bones. They served Thai chicken, wings, and a fried crab mix? I'm not sure if I'd try the crab mix again, but the chicken was good. Their dim sum dumplings were great! It was the best dim sum from a buffet I've had. Overall, it's a good buffet. read more

Service is quick and friendly. The buffet was surprisingly clean. Waters were refilled routinely. I really liked the jalapeño chicken, the grilled shrimp Mongolian style really made my meal! They are really great with serving water, taking dirty plates, keeping the buffet area well-stocked and clean. I like this chinese, Mongolian bbq, sushi buffet. It's always so busy that food turns over fast so it never seems old and gross. Sushi is not bad for a buffet but it's not takashi obviously. They have a great ceviche that is yummy. I also think they have one of the better fried rice in the valley. Same with the egg drop and hot and sour soup. Oh there's plenty of fried stuff but you can eat relatively healthy if you choose too. Place is always clean and service is great. Plenty of parking. Can't beat the price really. Drinks are extra. Oh and they offer a senior discount. Ive been a few times at dinner and it's not for me as I don't like crawfish and fried crabs but hey to each there own. This place just opened up and didn't realize it was there as I was planning on going to the Mexican place next door for their authentic Sunday buffet. The King Buffet that started in Taylorsville that was shutdown for health code violations 3 years ago has really redeemed themselves and cleaned up their act. Here seems to be almost identical on the food, the interior seems to be fancier at this location. Loved the lights and style of the walls. Once this place is more known I am sure it will be equally as busy as the Taylorsville location. Food was hot & fresh and they were scrambling to keep items stocked. Haven't been back to this location since the covid shut down. They no longer have fried calamari at King Buffet, even on weekend which is disappointing. That's their bread and butter. The clams are still decent. Sushi is now inedible and fish is sliced too thinly and they give you a lot more rice. When this location first opened, they offered great quality food and service but both have gone drastically down hill. The 5600 S Taylorsville location (KB1) is now the better location to hit. read more

New location who dis? It's king buffet obviously! Well one great thing about places like this - it moves, gets cleaner but have the same standard of food as the others. $10 all you can eat buffet. And they do offer take out, so sometimes the wait time might be too long for a work lunch, but take out is easy. Favorite food items that I always get - chicken wings, string beans, Mongolian grill (anything - you can't go wrong), broccoli and beef, cooked seasoned shrimp (not the cold one), cold octopus salad. Everything else is just a filler and dependent on mood for me. The people here are average service. I would never go to an Asian place expecting good service. But it seems like they got their stuff down from the first location. Waiting can be a while. I remember I ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour before. They allow call ahead a for big party. Cleanliness looked much better than some reviewers have said. I wonder if they were referring to the King Buffet in Taylorsville, which had MUCH lower health scores (77 on 02/02/22, then 46 on 04/04/22, then 21 on 04/13/22 vs. 71 here in South Salt Lake on 08/13/21.) We didn't try the sushi or Mongolian BBQ; we don't have the capacity we used to. They do offer a 10% senior discount, and a military discount. The crab legs were, my wife said, "too young to have any meat on them." The General Tso's chicken was tasty enough, though not very hot; the Thai chicken was good. The ribs were good, and meaty. Good small desserts, cantaloupe and melon. One small item I'd like to see improved is the labels for food items on the buffet tables - they often are unclear, and don't align with the food trays. In one case, a purported chicken dish looked suspiciously molluscan. It was adequately heated and tasted fine, though. Next time I'll have to remember to take photos. The food seemed like good value for the money. We'll likely come back for the Mongolian BBQ. The men's room was clean. read more

King Buffet is the first buffet that I left before I was even full. I had really high hopes for King Buffet and I was so excited to try it. Except, 95% of the buffet selection isn't worth eating. The remaining 5% was just OK. I was so disappointed, and then when I paid for my check, it was $6.00 higher than expected. So if I could give 0/5, I would. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here when I came on a Friday night. It's your typical Asian buffet, some foods are going to be greasy. There is a large selection of food, including a Mongolian grill and sushi spot. I was especially surprised by the sushi, the salmon nigiri was not bad at all. The price is good for what you get. The quality is definitely noticeable if you go on a Friday/Saturday vs on a regular week day like a Wednesday. The Mongolian grill part was good, and if that were the only item I ate I'd give this place more stars. Pretty much everything else was not very tasty. The sushi tasted like it was close to expiring, and the Chinese stuff was pretty bland. The potstickers and the ribs were both fine though. I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. When I come to buffets, my standards are usually not very high, so I felt as if it was a bit of a gamble trying the sushi here. They have about 5 or 6 different pre made rolls that you can grab with your tongs. Only one of these rolls had fish, the rest were mostly cream cheese or crab fillers, so I didn't try many but the couple I did were decent. Also pleasantly surprised by their nigiri, not the best I've had but I definitely went back 3 times and mostly just ate that. They had tuna, salmon, unagi, shrimp, and hamachi I believe. The only one I didn't like was the unagi, it was a bit dry. I am writing this a couple days later, so no food poisoning lol. read more

We've been here several times and always have a good dining experience. They have a good selection at the Mongolian grill, I always get the steak and shrimp with garlic, Mongolian sauce and teriyaki sauce and it's delicious. The food is always fresh and tasty. Sometimes they even have a crab boil on the weekends or for weekday dinner with snow crab legs, crawfish, corn, mussels and clams, which is delicious! I also like their sushi, shrimp, beef and broccoli, Thai chicken, fried rice, noodles and pretty much everything else they have. The sushi is fresh but they put a lot of rice on their nigiri. A little less would be nice. Their ribs are cooked perfectly and taste great. The only thing I didn't like was their crab puffs, they are too hard and crunchy, not light and crispy. Most of the employees are friendly, but sometimes they don't bring drink refills right away. The price is a good deal for the large selection they offer. "Guarded" may best the best way to define how many of us approach AYCE/buffet establishments yet the right-priced lunch at King Buffet had me willing to investigate. * ATMOSPHERE ------------------------------ The exterior of the building is notable for a large sign which indicates it serves seafood, sushi, and Mongolian BBQ. The parking lot in front is small. As I approach the double doors, two large, stone, dragon statues greet me. Just inside, I find myself in a lobby with two large counters, each staffed by an employee. I don't know who to walk to or where to go and as I exchange glances with each person behind the counter, there is no indication of how to proceed. Interestingly, the area here reminds me of a concierge counter in a Vegas hotel which is amusing to see at a restaurant. In short order, an employee walks out of another door and leads me to my table. Amusingly, I would really like to know what function those other two guys serve! The interior contains more of the same Vegas-styling with brightly lit, glass chandeliers, decorative inlays, Asian-styled lanterns and other elements, as well as a ceiling track with shrouded LED's which cycle through various colors. The restrooms are clean and maintain the aesthetic of the restaurant. The tables were clean as were the serving areas. Cups, silverware, and plates all looked clean. There is, in fact, a seafood bar, a salad bar, a sushi area, a Mongolian BBQ area, a dessert bar (notably with a soft serve machine and chocolate fountain), and of course, the main, entree area, with roughly 45 items along with 4 different soups (the website boasts 200 items altogether). * SERVICE ------------------------------ I am seated quickly. The waitress is pleasant, and quite attentive. She routinely and non-intrusively walks the area, glancing at tables for plates to pick up and my plate is always gone by the time I come back with a new one. Other than that, I'm largely my own, as buffet settings tend to be. * FOOD ------------------------------ My intention was not to eat a lot but to sample as many foods as possible. Eating one piece of everything still managed to fill me up quite a bit (and I didn't try every entree). I did not try the seafood, salad or dessert bars. The entrees were quite good, honestly. The Mongolian BBQ was average. The sushi made me regret getting it. Then again, I don't know how long the sushi had been sitting out there either. A buddy and I wanted some dinner after a long day of work we were thinking of Asian fusion we have heard good reviews about this place and wanted to check it out in person. As you know it's a buffet so come hungry, highly recommends stopping in and the noodle wok and make up some yummy dishes, there are a lot of fixings as the picture below different kind of veggies, meats and sauces the teriyaki one is my favorite. There are many many other choices can't list them all but took some pictures of fried rice, crab raccoons, shrimp, and more. The seating is great very spaced out and welcoming I enjoy that they don't check on you as often however just enough to make sure that your drink is full and If you need anything else. Make sure to check out the dessert section before you head out there are some yummy choices of all kinds. Would I go back... Yeah, I think so it would be nice to try some different dishes because variety is good so If you want a lot for a reasonable price feel free to stop in.
