Everyone has their favorite, go-to Chinese place and since moving to Indy I had yet to find mine--that changed this weekend! A coworker recommended this place because it's her go-to.  A couple friends and I stopped in to grab dinner before a movie night. It's located in a small strip mall next to my favorite nail salon.  There's limited parking, but I've never not been able to find a spot. We went in on a Friday night and it was hopping!! People were constantly coming in for take out orders while we waited for our orders. The service was good and very fast for how busy they were. They have a very large selection!  Half the menu is pictured on the wall, which I liked, especially when you don't know what you want, plus you eat with you eyes! I decided on the pepper steak combination dinner which comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll for about $9.  It was so much food, it easily made three meals!  I was very impressed and will be coming back again! read more

A little cleaner than the average strip-mall walk-up Chinese restaurant. The unisex restroom was clean, as was the dining area. Though the front windows were a little smudged. Four tables-for-4 for dining in. My Moo Goo Gai Pan was better than average. Fresh mushrooms, not canned. And a pleasant seasoning that I wasn't used to, but I couldn't identify the ingredient. $4.50 lunch specials until 3:30pm, includes entree and a choice of egg roll, can of soda, or soup. Aside from the normal Chinese standards, interesting items on the menu are: American fried food: chicken wings, crab meat sticks, fried scallops, fried fish, french fries. Pad Thai: vegetable, pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, and "House Special". Green lettuce salad (with cucumber, tomato, carrot) and ginger dressing for $3.95. Japanese seaweed salad for $6.25. read more

The best of Indy! The place is always busy which just proves this more. I am a Chinese (American version) food lover and philosopher. This place earns my Gold Star rating. The sauces are sweet and spicy and always made to how i like them. Any adjustments you requests are taken and I've always had perfect orders. The portions are typical, so large. The Chicken, pork, and noodles are delicious. The General Tso Chicken is my favorite and i always ask to make it super spicy, which they do. This order is a good judge because each place has their own unique version of the dish. The breading may be more or less, the sauce thick or thin, spicy or a little sweet, it's all very telling and fits most tastes. The rice is never dry or hard and the egg rolls are freshly fried up to order. if you are in the area, give them a try and you will be coming back for more. read more

I would like to come back here and try the other menu items. I recently got tired of eating at our go-to Chinese place and wanted to branch out. We ordered lo mein, General Tso's Chicken, Tofu in Garlic Sauce with veggies, and wonton soup. I loved the flavor/broth in the wonton soup, but not particularly fond of the meat filling. The wrappers were thick and smooth though. My husband enjoyed the General Tso's chicken. I like that the lo mein noodles are the right consistency and not dripping in grease. I also received a TON of tofu in my meal so I was super grateful of that. Nothing really blew my mind so I would come back but wouldn't say it's the best or anything. The one thing I wasn't thrilled about was that the staff isn't super friendly and I get that they are busy, so perhaps that's the reason. Also, their very young daughter started screaming at them and and it made the very few customers in the restaurant very uncomfortable. read more

Inconsistent. Have ordered Chicken with Chinese veggies 3 times...Came once with what seemed to be thinned teriyaki sauce because I requested brown sauce. Next time I requested same dish and it came with the delicious brown gravy which I love. This time it came with white garlic sauce. Sometimes there's broccoli, today there was none but there was lots, lots, lots of onions. No mushrooms this time which I also love. Three thin slivers if carrots, two snow pea pods. The wonton soup has three amazing wonton dumplings in it. Superior. The broth, however, has tasted more like chicken bouillon instead of broth in the past. Again, inconsistent. I can understand the cost cutting since the $5.79 lunch special is a terrific deal. For that price, you get an entree with rice, then choice of either soup, egg roll, or beverage. BEWARE false advertisement! My friends and I were studying nearby and decided to order some Chinese food to-go. We looked at online menus, and picked based off of the cheapest one (this establishment). I would like to note that we looked at their official posted website, not pictures of the menu from Yelp reviewers. When we added our total up, it should have been $18.35 plus tax. We ordered Beef + Broccoli (pint), Chicken + Broccoli (pint), 2 chicken lo mein (pint), and 1 egg drop soup (pint). When we checked out the total was $27.00. I didn't realize it was that far off until I had left. I called the restaurant back and told them of the mistake, and the lady basically yelled "NO" at me, and started spewing off random prices for the items that were not the same as the menu prices. When asked again, she said "This is old menu BYE" I'm currently looking into this to see how I can report a restaurant for false advertisement. I will never order from King Dragon again. read more

Great Chinese food, and you'll pay for it. Around 8 for a pint, cheaper at lunch and they give you extras with large orders. Fresh and delicious with your typical massive menu. The dumplings are good and the sweet and sour chicken comes with sauce on the side, so the berating stays crispy. Pretty unhealthy if you order the wrong things. Really not much else to say. It was 50/50. Chicken fried rice was terrible. It was salty, very dry and half cooked rice. Hot and spicy beef was okayish.

King Dragon used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant until the ownership changed. I have got food from there twice under the new ownership. The first time it was not bad however, the second which was yesterday 12/14/21, and it was horrible. I purchased General Tso chicken because it was a basic dish. The pork fried rice was horrible it had to be a couple of days old and it tasted like it had was heavy seasoned with salt. The egg roll was dry and the chicken was decent. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. If they are using leftover rice what else's are they shortcutting. Horrible read more

My favorite take-out Chinese food in the Indianapolis area! Prices are super reasonable, ordering is easy, pick-up is fast, the restaurant is clean, everyone is very friendly. My go-to is the Sweet and Sour shrimp with an egg roll. The shrimp always tastes fresh and high-quality, and the portion size is huge. The egg roll is packed full and not too greasy, with great flavor. I also really enjoy the microwaveable take-out containers which make it super easy to take leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

For the wife and I, this is the ONLY Chinese take out we like in Indy! I've never had a bad meal from them and they are always willing to customize your meal upon request. Like if you want it less spicy or $1 more shrimp. It can be a busy place at times and they work hard to push the orders through without suffering any loss of quality. Oh how I love you, King Dragon! I grew up in New York, which is filled with excellent Chinese take out restaurants, but moved away 16 years ago. It was a long 16 years filled with crappy Chinese takeout. Then we moved to Indy and found King Dragon. Chinese food like I remember from the good-ol' NY days. The moo shu chicken is delicious, as is the wonton soup, garlic chicken, happy family... just about everything I've tried here has been perfect. The portion sizes are large, keeping my fridge filled with leftovers for days. The lady who answers the phone is quite pleasant. The only complaint is that she'll tell you that your order will be ready in 10 minutes - it's really more like 15 or 20. Considering how yummy this place is, that's just splitting hairs. read more

I am kind of a Chinese food snob in the sense that I grew up having New York Chinese which is by far the best. I have tried many places around Indianapolis and this place by far knocks it out the park. Not only is it a great value for the amount of food you get but it is always so good. This is your typical Chinese takeout joint. The menu has the standard Americanized Chinese food. Pricing is downright cheap. I'm not really into Americanized Chinese food, which is one of the reasons why my rating here is low. I would be difficult to please in any case. But the menu had pad thai with a bright red box around it, suggesting that it might be tasty. Is there any reason for a Chinese takeout joint to go out of its way to put pad thai on the menu if there isn't something special to it? No, there isn't. The noodles were overdone, there were no Thai flavors in there whatsoever. The menu advertised basil, but there was no basil in there at all. The shrimp tasted good; I will grant it that. I was not impressed with the crab rangoon, nor the cashew chicken my girlfriend got. They were both edible, just nothing too special. Not a horrible place. For many people, this will satisfy their Chinese cravings. But I won't be going back. read more

No star for the place please! I wish there are more good Chinese restaurants nearby. We were craving for some Chinese food while we were out driving and landed in King Dragon, knowing that its one of those fast growing fast food restaurant, we didn't expect much. I ordered house fried rice and asked to be sure if he can make fresh fried rice with steam rice, not the ones that has been soaked in soy sauce all day. He said it has pork, I said it is fine since house fried rice suppose to have all mixture of meat including shrimp and chicken. His wife(?) looked a t me and smiled(?) My husband ordered shrimp egg foo young, I also ordered four seasons. It took good 15 minutes for them to bring out fried rice first and egg foo young. The fried rice looked pretty brown along with roast pork but shrimp and chicken looked white and had no taste. I took it to the counter and asked young lady to see if it was made with steamed rice, she turned red and started yelling at me saying 'you should have asked for that! We don't make fresh fried rice unless you ask for it! I said 'yes, I did ask for it. Can you make the fresh one as I asked?' This time the old man who took the order, came out screaming at me saying I never asked for it. I knew his English wasn't great but screaming at the customer? I said I can't eat it, he took it to the trash can and threw it away. Who does that? Like Joby N's review, the owner is argumentative, like to argue about things with customers other than accommodate the customers. What is a can of coke cost? No apology? Real. Good. Chinese food. One evening I got the itch for some Chinese, so I stopped in to see what was good at King Dragon. I felt like some spice, so I ordered the Kung Pao: very flavorful with just enough spiciness to satisfy, not to make me cry. I also read about some good vegetable dumplings, so I ordered them steamed - very healthy portions and well prepared (feeds two, easily). Prices were right and I could tell this place was pretty authentic. I also was impressed with the depth of the menu - many good looking dishes that are not always available at your average Chinese restaurant. The one, minor qualm I had was they didn't include any fortune cookies! Yeah I know, big deal, but how am I supposed to keep expanding my mandarin one word at a time? I went to King Dragon. I was having a bad start to a day and I decided I would reward myself with some unhealthy good gratuitous eats. I ordered three small entrees, the beef chow mein, sweet and sour pork, and yang chow/young zhou fried rice. I also got an order of the fried chicken wings with garlic sauce, and the egg drop wonton soup. I ordered the chicken wings because I was having a heinous craving for wings all week. I ordered the egg drop wonton soup because I've never seen a place have wontons in egg drop soup before, and I ordered the three other entrees for just cause, and also because those usually are pretty standard chinese items. Needless to say, for a bunch of small size orders and about $20 I had a good amount of food (a lot of rice). Pretty much lasted me 3 days and several meals. The food was A-OK, as yelp suggests, in my books, and was pretty standard for an Americanized Chinese food restaurant. The chicken wings were large, and I thought only 4 came in an order, but I think I got around 6 wings? I forgot to count, but it was definitely more than 4. I wouldn't really suggest the sweet and sour pork, there was much more batter than pork and the sauce wasn't the best. Besides, it was the type of sweet and sour order where it just comes with the fried pork and the sauce and no veggies. The beef chow mein was okay, I wish it came with the skinny deep fried noodles instead of plain rice. I mean, that's what it means, chow mein, fried noodles, like chow fun, fried rice. My yang chow fried rice was also okay, kind of bland, but I was very glad it wasn't a weird yellow color or a brown color (a result of too much soy sauce, or the use of dark soy sauce), because yang chow, like many other fried rice dishes are supposed to be white. I liked my egg drop soup, it had way more flavor than other egg drops that I've had which tend to be runny. The wontons in it were also okay, the meat in it was actually flavorful, the wonton wrapper itself was a bit thick, not like the typical thin/delicate wrapper you would expect. King Dragon is a good fast chinese takeout spot. It's not my fav takeout (Sidewok), but it will do in a pinch. I recently had an order of hot sour soup (good) and beef and broccoli (not great) the beef and broc was over garliced and salty, and chewy but not in a good way. The steamed vegetable dumplings were mentioned several times in the reviews. I didn't think that they were all that great. They did have a lot of fresh vegetables. I suppose I'm not a dumpling person :-) I have ordered several things here. I think that the General Tso's is my friends' favorite. Sweet and sour chicken is good, but they recently changed their sweet and sour sauce. It tastes "jammy." I like the cashew chicken and order it frequently. The mei fun is great- it is skinny noodles with vegetables and pork, beef, or chicken. I do not like the chow fun. The noodles stuck together and made a giant noodle blob. I once ordered the Mongolian Beef and asked for it to not be spicy. It was good, but it had too many onions. They have specials where if you order a certain amount of food, you can get a free fried rice or crab rangoon. Overall, I keep going back to this place! I only wish they would deliver. read more

As other reviewers have said, there are four tables for dining in, making it more geared toward take-out. We ordered the crab rangoon for an appetizer. It was filled full of cream cheese (a rarity in many Chinese restaurants) and was fried just right. There wasn't much crab meat, but that's the norm in crab rangoon, I've found. I ordered Chicken with Cashew Nuts, which was amazing! The sauce was very rich and very good. The vegetables with it were your basic diced carrots and celery. My boyfriend ordered Padd Thai. That turned out to be a poor choice. There was no Thai spices or flavoring that we could tell and the noodles weren't your typical Padd Thai noodles. They were wider and cooked too long. We also got a free egg roll for our purchase being over $15. (It was $18-some in all.) The egg roll wasn't anything special, but it was a nice bonus. I don't recommend the Padd Thai, but I'll definitely be going back for more delicious cashew chicken and crab rangoon! read more

This restaurant has decent food, but getting your order accurately taken and presented to you when dining in (and in any resemblance of a pleasant manner) is more of a chore than it is worth. The manager or owner, who was present to take our order, was not able to accurately translate my simple requests from their menu and turn it into the proper food order. I don't normally have issues with language barriers, and I am very unhappy when someone cannot have a single person on staff that cannot assist me. The manager or owner did not take the order correctly, acted like my request for chopsticks was a chore for him (and he took back the fork he game me which had already passed the counter), and he would not take back the white steamed-rice that he gave us in error instead of an egg roll. The General Tso Chicken was my choice--for $5.50, the lunch special included a generous portion of chicken, laced with crispy chili peppers and a subtle Tso sauce, as well as an egg roll and delicious fried rice. The lunch portion was so large, I had leftovers! The staff does not speak English well, but it did not seem to matter...food is made fresh in front of you as you wait...quickly done, and soo yummy! Pros: yummy food, decent prices Cons: long wait We called on a Sunday evening to order some carry-out. They told us 20 minutes. Most places tell you 10-15 minutes, but it wasn't that big of a deal. We ran some errands and showed up 30 minutes later. Our food wasn't done, along with several others who were waiting for their carry out. It must have been really busy, because from the time we placed our call to the time we got the food was probably 50 minutes. The food was pretty good, standard greasy Chinese. I think most people know to expect that at a place like this. We ordered veggie dumplings, kung pao chicken and beef with broccoli. Portions were generous. I was happy with the food, and would definitely order this same thing again. After reading the other reviews, I really wanted to like this place. But sadly, it wasn't to be. We ordered take-out because it was very chilly in the restaurant (it was a cool November evening and they don't seem to heat the place). All the other patrons were also waiting on orders to take away. We ordered the steamed dumplings (I wanted veggie, but we got pork), the kung pao chicken, some pork dish, and pork fried rice. The dumplings were decent, but there was entirely too much dough. I had to 'unwrap' mine to eat them. The chicken dish was bland and not very spicy at all. The pork was, frankly, unedible. It had a weird chemically taste that made me throw my entire dish away. Even as I think of that taste in my mouth, YUCK! After that, I didn't try the pork fried rice. Not good. read more

This is our Chinese go-to take out place. We have tried a variety of their dishes and I can't remember a bad one. I really like their black pepper chicken. However, their stand-out by far is the steamed meat dumplings. No, I do not know what kind of meat is in there, but these things are fabulous. Soft, thick dumpling dough encases a savory blend of meat and spices and green onion. Dunk it in their dumpling sauce, and it is extraordinary. I always make sure we get an order of these. My boyfriend also really likes their crab rangoons, but that's not really my cup of tea, so he eats the whole order over a couple of days. Their egg drop soup is pretty solid, and their egg & spring rolls are tasty as well. The only thing I would say is that I would give yourself an extra 5 minutes from the quoted pick up time (we always carry out, but there is the option to eat in) as it is usually not ready the instant you get there. read more

I'm still trying to find my favourite Chinese food resto in Indy! This one is inching up the list :) I won't know for sure until I try the Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon and Pork Fried Rice. I wasn't feeling well one evening and didn't want to cook dinner for my husband and an out-of-town guest. I did, however, feel up to dialing for take out. The hubby and guest went to pick it up and they said the staff were helpful and polite. We got large portions of General Tsos Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Pad Thai. We all had a little bit of everything. Both chicken dishes had more chicken than breading which was very nice, the breading was nice and crispy as well, the Pad Thai was also tasty. The only drawback, in my opinion, was that the Pad Thai didn't have actual peanuts (crushed or otherwise) in it. I really like having the peanuts on top. Not a big deal, just my preference. After I feasted on dinner, along with two men, my husband still had dinner the next two nights in a row because the portions were so large! I will be back to try more of their offerings and will update this review if needed :) I hope the Egg Rolls, Pork Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon live up to my expectations. read more
