It's very easy to find in the heart of Fountain Square, right next door to a smoke shop, inside very spacious. I was the only customer eating inside. I ordered chicken wings (6) that night. The service Hong Kong offers are food delivery options, carryout, or you can dine in the restaurant. It took about 20 to 30 minutes for me to receive my six fresh hot chicken wings. The chicken wings were an actual big size, not too meaty to me, just right. The restaurant does have restrooms that are only for customers. Overall, no bad experience; next time, I'll try something different. read more

I thought the bourbon chicken, lo mein, and the beef and broccoli were excellent. My husband had the pork egg rolls, which he said were good. I had the veggie, but they weren't my favorite. I placed a pick-up order online which was very easy and I really liked everything I got. Good flavor, reasonable prices, "fresh" - they have the best crab rangoons. I've been looking for a go-to Chinese takeout place near downtown and I think this will be it. The person that checked me out was very polite and quick and considerate (asked if I need utensils, sauces, even a plastic bag to carry the paper one it came in). They do not give what is stated on the menu. Twice, I ordered General Tsao's Chicken which says it comes with white rice. Every time, I get fried, which is too much oil at once. I also got hot and sour soup, and it had pork wonton's in it? Never have I had wontons in hot and sour soup, though there is pork pieces. It felt like they didn't have enough hot and sour and just filled the rest of the container with wonton soup? I have ordered twice and tried to like this place, but no more! This was a tough one to rate. I'll be real...I REALLY miss the restaurant that used to be in this location, Naisa. It had amazing homemade Chinese food that never missed. It was a little pricier, but well worth it. Hong Kong Restaurant falls more into the standard "quick Chinese takeout" that you can find around town & that people puzzlingly rave about. It's like people raving about McDonalds, but you've eaten at Bru Burger. I love me some MickieD's, but there's a difference, you know? (We can throw down over who has better fries, but you know it's McD's.) However, it's not expensive & the portions are pretty good. (Lunch specials for under $7!) It's cheap enough that it's worth trying some different items & finding the things you like, though. For me, the chicken always seemed to be quite overcooked, unless it was breaded. And maybe those are, too...but it's more forgiving. With that rule, I enjoyed the sesame chicken. I think I've settled on "Happy Family" as my favorite. A smattering of all the meats seems to work best for me. It's gonna be a bit greasy, it's gonna be a bit salty. Make your peace with it. The crab rangoons are decent, but this poor place has to compare itself to Siam Square's just down the street, and that's not a fair fight. They're half the price, so that earns them a bit of grace. I also really appreciated that when we placed an online order, they called to confirm that we actually wanted the chow mein, as it was not a noodle dish, like many people assume, but instead had veggies & cabbage. I think that's the thing that put them into 4 star range....price point. They're fast, friendly, decent portions, and inexpensive. They also take COVID very seriously, as they have plexiglass open when you are picking up your order. I put my mask on to make the lady feel more comfortable, as she was wearing a mask. I called right when they opened at 11 am and my food was ready right at 11:15 am when I came in. I ordered 2 lunch specials - the Mongolian Beef and Sesame Chicken. Great place for carry out. You get a lot of food for a good price. I got General Tso's Chicken, fried rice, a spring roll, and eight crab rangoons for $15. That'd easily be $25+ at other places. I was pretty excited when the place opened because that is one genre of food the area is lacking in - and Hong Kong fell about exactly where you would expect for the price point. The lunch specials don't come with egg roll or soup, so if that is your vibe, you have to order ala carte. Steamed dumplings - tasted ok but the texture was like rubber Hot and sour soup - all hot no sour (also no taste) Szechuan beef - underseasoned, beef was also rubbery Pork Mei fun - a little dry, actually ok. Lastly, their website/ordering system is not great and we got no notification that the food was ready. We had fried dumplings, which were so tasty. The pork egg rolls were also a crowd favorite. As our entrees, we had the general tsos and beef noodles. This rating is a bit biased to be frank. I am a fan of a few things. One, location in fountain square with no other Chinese food nearby. Two, efficiency, never wait more than 15 minutes for food. Also, this is a curved grading scale, rating americanized Chinese for what it is and not rating against more authentic establishments. With this being said, it's solid. Meat quality is fair, spice is fair, not overly sweet or bland as some places such as this can be. No real frills. It is what it is. Indy is chalk full of americanized whole in the wall americanized Chinese places with the same standard menus and shipped frozen egg rolls and fried rice. But they insert some quality here and make it high on the tear of those establishments. read more
