I am traveling for work and on my own for dinner, so I went around and found what seemed to be a reasonable option with decent reviews mixed on Yelp and Grubhub and going back what seemed like a few years. Unfortunately, this was a real fail. The chicken and the broccoli were both good quality (all of the stars are for those ingredients) the sauce was mediocre with virtually no flavor and the wontons were dry and awful. They came with what can only be described as a vat of sweet and sour sauce. I suspect they hope if I dipped them in enough sauce, I would enjoy them. It didn't work. I am not sure what all of the high rated reviewers ordered, or how people have been going here for years but what I ordered was neither flavorful nor worth going back to again. read more

King house has been a staple for many years! When they initially sold it years ago, I did not have high hopes. A lot of things changed including the taste of the food. My friend Janell and I were trying to find a place to eat after we saw the shimmering solstice light show at Old Westbury Gardens. Originally we wanted to try a sushi place but it was going to be too expensive. I ordered white rice with tofu and eggplant, no sauce and just asked for hot sauce. They gave me a hot oil sauce that they said was gluten free and hopefully it wasn't a fish oil sauce because I didn't think about asking if it was. My food was good for what it was. Because I didn't get a brown sauce it would have been bland without the hot sauce but I missed eating chinese eggplant and that was yummy and I was excited about that. It's Monday and I forgot my lunch at home, so not a great start to the week. King House made Monday a bit better. I selected the only Chinese restaurant on Grubhub that would deliver to my office in garden city. I liked the fair price for lunch and that I could choose white meat chicken for general Tsos or sesame chicken. First of all it came exactly how I wanted, I asked for it well done. Secondly, it was very tasty with the brown rice. Smart move, that earned the promotion to the 5th star. The food is not what your going to get in China town or Taiwan but when compared to all of the other Chinese take-out places in the Carle Place/Mineola area its my favorite. I see they are trying hard and effort counts. Combined with consistently getting my order correct and fast delivery you can never go wrong. I recommend take-out unless for some you get a craving while driving on old country (cherry lane) or glen cove rd (westbury ave). We were visiting my son and didn't have a car, so we had to go somewhere close to his house. Just around the block and close to the train station, we found King House. We were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were. I order chicken with broccoli and my husband ordered cashew chicken. You get soup, noodles or soda with your order. Also a pot of green tea is available so you can help yourself whether you eat in or out. I personally don't care for tea so we spent a dollar for a bottle or water. All in all, I had no complaints. I never do this which says a lot. I just called for delivery and within 2 seconds of me speaking to the lady, not even giving my address let alone my order yet- she yells at me with "we too busy, no delivery for you, too far!!!" Now, this is my 4th time ordering from them with no issues. Never again. I don't care the establishment... learn how to treat your customers. Extremely rude. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. the food is delicious but unfortunately we won't come back because the service is painfully slow. The restaurant was only half full and yet it took 1.5 hours to receive our meals. Our appetizers were served after an hour of each waiting. our server didn't even try to smooth things out with apologies, free anything or explanations. Food is terrible mediocre at best. I did just move from Queens and this has got to be the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Such a shame. It's the only one here. Egg rolls were terrible and ridiculously old, I think the inside was fossilizing... The noodles were bland flavorless and just plain gross. The garlic chicken... Bland and finding chicken in there was like finding needle in a haystack. The boneless spareribs... Ugh just awful and rubbery, only silver lining was the general tso's chicken, flavorless but atleast crispy? Not sure that's a home run on any level... But if I have to give them one star might as well attempt at a positive. However it was definitely a negative on my wallet... The original king house had great food but was run by a well-intentioned but somewhat strange person. King house was then under new management and it went downhill fast. I absolutely love king house. I am usually not a fan of chinese food, but love that this place will make their dishes with white meat if you request it. I always get the sweet and sour chicken with white meat, and their lunch/dinner specials are reasonable. My fiance loves their general chows chicken and dumplings. If I could give it zero stars I would. This place used to be busy and the food was good(never my favorite but others did love it) and now it's just flavorless. Yesterday we had to try one last time,even though we knew it has changed so much in a negative way. We ordered fried dumpling and they were all dough that was almost stale. The filling was barely there and flavorless. And the dipping sauce was just odd. Big !! I've had dumplings from many places and have never had such an epic fail! I called this Chinese place and started to give my order to the woman on the phone. As I am telling her to add a certain ingredient, she goes on to tell me a price and then hangs up the phone. I call back, they leave me sitting in limbo on hold so I hang up again and finally an inpatient man answers and I tell him of what has occurred and he tells me well we are busy and cannot stay on the phone long. I then hung up on him. These people were very unprofessional and nasty behavior. I would never buy food from this place again. First- What kind of takeout/delivery establishments don't take credit/debit cards in 2016? There isn't an ATM for a mile in any direction of this place. If you order food close to closing, it will not be fresh and it will be nasty. My "steamed chicken" had the consistency of raw oysters. The rice was dry, and the wonton soup cloudy, tasting weird. Love their Wanton soup. This is the only place that still has Bock Choy in their soup. All other places cheap out and just add scallions! The people there will also give you extra tea bags and fortune cookies without a fuss. Their language has a way of making you think they are yelling, but then you realize that it is just the difference in emphasis and pronunciation. They are really very sweet and accommodating. Absolutely the WORST customer experience ever,my friend ordered a FRIED RICE with Sesame chicken.after delivery,my friend called in to say they messed up the order.they put in PORK in the fried rice(being of a certain religion we cant eat pork).on top of which i open up the second plate,and after inspecting there was a BIG HAIR IN IT ..he tells them can we please get a new order.the lady on the phone argues back with my friend and says you didnt say No pork.anyways the lady then says were only gonna make a new order of the rice and the driver is driving to Hempstead,so its gonna take another hour.not to be petty but even if the pork touched the chicken we CANT have it so i decide to drive with my friend to exchange the orders out.after getting to the location we told the lady we didnt wanna wait and can we get a new order? She says no,"i give your money back" she handed us $15,which was $3 shorter than what we gave.then on top of which,she throw out the wrong food order infront of our faces..not only did they not mess up the order,and refused to own up to the mistake,they also refused to service us.which is disgusting and felt like we were being discriminated.i WOULDNT RECOMMEND this chinese location to a starving person.disgusting people. read more
