Old School Chinese food with the styrofoam containers right on Carle Place; HOW BOUT THAT!! personally I must disclose that I am not a fan of quote unquote Chinese food. But old school Chinese food stands in a category on its own right next to DimSum on the list of things I rarely eat but secretly love. So just top that off with an afternoon of pre vacation shopping with my mom and kids at the stores right next door. Stop it. We enjoyed perfectly prepared shrimp fried rice with chicken wings, chicken lo mien, egg rolls and beef and broccoli doused in as much duck sauce as my little body could handle! Yes the styrofoam shocked me- but it didn't stop me from indulging in lunch with the family in a small shop with like 4 tables and a soda machine. The chef host and waiter displayed wonderful service and managed to take care of everything and everyone without any complaints seemingly all by herself. I didn't know how much I needed this and am totally JEALOUS of the folks who live near by bc I'm pretty sure Friday nights the phone lines must be jam packed with to go orders bc this place has really decent old school Chinese food. this WAS my go to restaurant for chinese ...the last time i ordered from grubhub one of the dishes i ordered was chow mein which says on the grubhub menu that it is a noodle dish ( google chow mein,its a noodle dish) . when i received my order there were no noodles in the dish , so grubhub credited me for the dish ( i placed a large order) . the restaurant called me on my cell and started yelling at me that chow mein does not have noodles ! ( although the menu clearly states a noodle dish) and i shouldnt have been credited. the next time i tried to order from this restaurant, not thinking that they would take a customers complaint personally . i waited the hour delivery time they stated and when i called the restaurant to find out where my delivery was , she said we are not delivering to you we cancelled your order i would not order from this restaurant this is terrible customer service. this is no way to run a business! read more

Came in for lunch, ordered 2 lunch specials and didn't get my soups for both orders and took a can of coke-cola instead. She made a big deal and changed me $5 for the can of soda which is not the ultimate problem. Main problem even in the end I paid the $5 for the can of soda , she belittled me in front of other customers. I disagree though with fellow Yelpers on portions being generous, but the upside is the food is quite delicious In 2008 this place won an award for top 100 takeout places in the area. There is a picture of the owner with the famous TV chef personality "Martin Yan" as he receives his trophy that year. The trophy is displayed in the restaurant as well. I think the negative reviews here are about the service, not the food. Ordered takeout here past 9pm. The food did take a long time to come out, but I prefer that since it could be because they are freshly cooking the food. That's so much better than eating pre-cooked food. Order the boneless ribs ($11.25) and pork fried rice, it's the best in the area (this place is the best Chinese takeout, I think, in the neighborhood). Wonton soup ($1.85) needs more meat inside though, it was mostly dough. read more

It first appears as merely a strip mall take-out place in suburbia thus sure to disappoint. Judgement be spared, for the inside is fine, like a cleanly kept take-out decore. Food is overall neither too greasy nor too oily nor too sugary nor over-sauced, thankfully. Standard take-out menu is posted, you know the drill. Service is unusually attentive for a take-out place, largely owing to its suburban nature which also means their English is unusually well supported. The dumplings were ok, not the best I've eaten. But the General Tso's was awful. I intentionally left off the word chicken because there was hardly any in all the pieces I tried. They were all breading with literally shreds of chicken inside. I also ordered scallion pancakes which were dripping oil most likely due to the fact that they were not fried but deep fried. Long time no yelp! Decided today to revisit Mr. Chen's in Carle Place because I recalled getting fried rice and chicken chow mein from there and it was pretty dang good. I'm happy to say it did not fail me, and it's a much shorter drive than my usual spot. I couldn't get over the freshness of the vegetables in the chow mein. There was some crunch, I love that! The sauce was flavorful, the chicken pieces plentiful. The fried rice was good although had a slightly smoky taste I don't care for and lacked pieces of scrambled egg. But again, fresh! The bean sprouts had a nice snap and overall it was not as greasy as my usual spot. Lots of pieces of pork, too. Here, like everywhere else, they have COVID protocols in place-no dining in-pick up or delivery only, and they meet you at an improvised counter with your food.
