I had a urge for some Chinese food one night but wanted to try someplace new. I have become very fussy (annoyingly fussy). Most of the take-outs are good, with their own little spin, but I wanted and need more than just 'good' food. While it loked like your typical take-out shop from the outside, it was a very spacious restaurant inside. This shop is also very conveniently located in the H & M Mart shopping center. Very easy in and out off Hillside Avenue with plenty of available parking. I found "Happy Garden" not far from me and thought I'd give it a spin. My usual meal of Wonton-Egg drop mix and Roast Pork Egg Foo Young. Food was very good and very tasty. I enjoyed the soup and the Egg Foo Young. What they did differently here was to serve it with the sauce already on it. I am used to puring on myself for a little more control on my food. Ribs are moist, sweet and juicy. Hot&Sour Soup has the perfect amount of variety of veggies, broth and just delicious. * Lunch Special: Fried Chicken Wings with pork fried rice and Wonton soup. 4 pieces of whole perfectly fried chicken wings. Crispy crunch, moist, juicy and flavorful. Wonton Soup was just perfect. Wonton thickness, fillings and broth was delicious. * Lunch Special: Beef mixed veggies with pork fried rice and egg drop soup. Great portion of thick sliced seasoned Beef which was so tender and flavorful. Hand cut veggies (cut baby corn, whole red peppers, broccoli, sliced mushrooms, celery, onions and carrots). * Pu Pu Platter. I was so shocked they had Pu Pu Platter. Came in on a Sunday for lunch and the staff were so nice. The restaurant is so nice, clean and modern! They served us fresh crispy noodles with a side of duck sauce. The place settings were so impressive and classy and new! Everything we ordered was soooo good! The broth from the beef short ribs was so tasty and the meat was so tender! What a gem of a place. Been going to this place even before they switched owners. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. They have a lunch special Monday to Saturday from 1130 am to 3pm. The owners Chen and Jessica are the nicest people I've met in a restaurant setting. You feel like you were in a "CHEERS "episode. They always great you with smiles etc. so does the staff . They have a nice eating area with tables and also with half bench type and chair set ups. Their is plenty of free parking in front. They serve beer and soda as well. Came here on a whim after shopping at Hmart next door. I got a small order of bbq spare ribs and the cold sesame noodles. The girl who took my order up front was not friendly and I waited about 25 minutes while there was nobody in the restaurant at the time. Although the sesame noodles were good & had more than enough peanut butter sauce, the ribs were burnt & barely had any meat on them. My mother and I were here this afternoon but only after going up and down Hillside Avenue until we made one last attempt and finally we found Happy Garden in a strip mall. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and the atmosphere was relaxing and quite pleasant. My mother had her BBQ spare-ribs with roast pork fried rice and I had chicken with broccoli also with roast pork fried rice, wonton soup and we each had ice cream. The service and food were very good and there was plenty of parking and once we found the restaurant we were very easily able to find our way back to Lakeville Road to Macy's to do our Christmas shopping. We will definitely return and probably order something else next time. It is definitely worth a second visit! read more

Happy Garden was the best Chinese food in this area, but oh how the mighty have fallen. I had friend come over and I suggested Chinese food for dinner. We ordered from Happy Garden what a huge mistake. Something as basic as fried rice and they screwed that up. The rice was only half way cooked the onions were crunchy not soft as in any fried rice. The egg rolls are small like spring rolls and the Hot & Sour soup has nothing in it, one little piece of tofu no pork and no vegetables. I don't understand how you can screw up the basics; maybe it is because they're spending all their money opening other placed like Sushi Garden. I will be looking for a new Chinese Restaurant. On my hunt for the best Chinese food in town, I tried Happy Garden. I ordered the shrimp Szechuan-style in tomato sauce, expecting something spicy with mixed veggies--but it turned out to be shrimp smothered in diced onions with no spice at all. A bit of a letdown since I love spicy food, but I'll definitely give them another try and order something more familiar, like shrimp with broccoli. Ran into Happy Garden to grab a quick bite to eat before picking up my son from school. I didn't see shrimp and broccoli with curry sauce on the lunch menu but asked if they could make it cuz I was sorta craving it. The ladies who took my order happily said they could make it and I was more than appreciative. When I got to my car and opened my order I noticed it didn't really look like curry sauce but more like a garlic sauce and I thought that my order wasn't right. I tried it and it tasted like curry but just didn't look like the yellowish-brown curry I was used to having. The shrimp had some sort of fried coating on them which sort of dried the shrimp out after it was cooked. UPDATE: I found my phone but it needs to be charged so I cannot even take photos to share ( though I still am unable to upload them think i need to do a mac update, or I'm just seriously techno-challenged, idk) so my words will have to suffice for now - once again:) Happy Garden's egg-rolls @ $1.75+tax are the cheapest of the 3 places bought from today, yet they DO contain noticeable pork, making them more desirable than New China's egg rolls ( in my 1st egg roll review today ) for those of us who don't mind some piggy meat included in our egg rolls. These, too, were a bit on the thin side and appeared "clean" as if fried in new/clean oil. They were a bit soft and taste was good. I've learned it's hard to tell the difference between a tasty egg roll and a not-so-tasty-egg roll since they have the same ingredients. BUT, I still do not see nor do I taste any egg:) As for its overall enjoyment/taste, I've had much better egg rolls. It was soft-crunchy though and I did enjoy it. I'd buy their egg rolls again. This was the 2nd time I've bought egg rolls at Happy Garden. One thing I though was kind of funny was the way the young lady working there answered me when I asked if they were still not making indoor dining available. She commented that she ws the only one working up front and wouldn't be able to do it all lol Anyways.... As egg rolls go, I'm giving this place a 3 out of 5 because they appeared to be made in clean fresh oil and the young lady was friendly in taking the order and responding to my question. It did take a bit long, I felt, for the egg rolls to be given to me from the time she went to place the order. I've been living in Williston Park for almost 10 years and am a fan of Chinese take-out. After all those years I finally decided to try Happy Garden. Well I'd give it 6 stars if it were offered. In other words the food was great, the portion and price was highly acceptable. Now I won't have to decide where to order my Gen. Tso chicken any more. Happy Garden is on my radar. Looked and tasted different and was absolutely awful. When I called and asked if they had a new chef or under new management they said no but don't believe them. Go-to place for take out and delivery. Would not go out here for dine in because as other reviews have mentioned the food isn't amazing, but they get 4 stars because it's exactly what you would expect from take out!!! Deliveries come within 20 minutes for an order with one to two entrees, I've gotten delivery within 10 minutes at times. If you have a huge order it'll most likely take longer. But they consistently come quick. Get the shrimp and broccoli with garlic sauce, or any other meat. Garlic sauce is bueno. Other than that, I've tried the Thai basil chicken and chicken satay. Not impressive, but makes sense, given that they are not a Thai restaurant. Not something you'd expect to buy from Chinese take out, but I like the french fries. read more
