The restaurant's warm and welcoming ambiance combined with the friendly and attentive staff made for a truly enjoyable evening. But what really impressed me was the food - I ordered the Indian thali and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were rich, authentic, and beautifully presented. I ordered take out from here. The chicken briyani was good, but it lacked flavor and spices. It did have the perfect amount of chicken in it. I also ordered the chicken tikka masala. It was good, no complaints. Service was good. and the food prices are reasonable. I would request for spices to be added to the briyani. I'll give it another try. read more

I gotta upgrade to 5 stars, i just love this place, the food is so tasty. I just had the spinach (without cheese) and the yellow daal (chickpeas) and jeera (cumin) rice. I'm totally hooked. Like i said before, this place is very basic and clean. I like that it's non- pretentious. Diverse people come here, takeout, singles, friends, small groups and families. The owner is a great guy. Not a fine dining restaurant. But have never been disappointed with anything ordered sit down or take out. Last meal Curry Goat and Palak Paneer. EXCELLENT honestly the most tender goat ever served to me could have had more spice for my taste but others thought just the right amount. read more

Ordered plain naan, butter chicken, vegetable samosa, and gajar halwa. The best I had out of everything I ordered was the green cutney & gajar halwa. The green chutney was off the hook! The butter chicken was definetly not worth it...at all. It was so watery and lacked a ton of flavor. The chicken really needs help with flavor but it wasn't chewy like some other reviewers mentioned...instead it was tender. The outside layer was soft for the samosa but I felt the filling needs more flavor. I just thought I'd try this place out. Not sure if I'd order again but might go in to try other sweet dishes like the halwa. No doubt about them knowing their sweet flavors but need an upgrade for the rest of the dishes. read more

I love this place for food that reminds me of my Punjabi mother's food. This isn't a fancy restaurant but my fiance and I have had date nights nonetheless. You cannot go wrong here with any of the vegetarian dishes. My favorites are their dal makhani, rajma, and paneer dishes. I don't love their pakora curry/kadhi, but my this is my mom's specialty dish so they are not to blame. My fiance and his friends who are non-veg love their chicken dishes. Their naans and rotis have always been fresh. I really wish them success and hope they will start doing long distance catering soon. read more

This place looks rundown and not really a place where'd you go and have a sit down dinner (or lunch, for that matter!) But.....definitely go for TAKEOUT! Food is fresh and that's why it takes a while to make it. Give yourself at least half an hour. My all-time fave is their veggie biryani! Yummmmm. It's a bit on the spicy side but oh-so-good! The Mixed Grill is also delicious. I didn't taste the palak paneer but my daughter loves it! As I said, at least go for the takeout. I wouldn't sit in there either. read more

Ordered and picked up food for dinner. Phone service was OK; The place did not look run-down, so there must have been renovations done. There are tables for sit-down dining. If it was possible to give this restaurant no stars I would. The service is rude and the food is terrible. I called in an order for take out and the guy kept cutting the call on me when ever I asked a question. At first I thought there was something wrong with the connection. Finally I realized the guy taking the order was doing it on purpose. He was just that rude and impatient, unable to even answer if they take credit card or how long the order would take. Then, on top of terrible service, the food was horrible. The vegetable biryani was just some white rice mixed with jalfreezi sauce and half boiled vegetables. The chicken curry was also really not good. The gravy itself was okay, but the chicken pieces were chewy and fatty (not cleaned properly) and tasted distinctly like they were boiled in plain water and then dumped into the pre-made sauce. I can't figure out how this restaurant got the high reviews it did. The only conclusion I can come to that it was reviewed primarily by Americans who have never had any kind of Indian food before, because geez. read more

Bad quality chicken (period) Chicken tikka masala was the worst I've ever had (rubbery stinky chicken in addition to the bad gravy) so we are not going back anymore and their naan is slightly burnt as previously said. Their medium is super spicy as well, we had to go and get it remade once. We tried the place a few times, only their goat dishes were fine. Not going back anymore. Also, they totally vouch for the food how they take so long to make it bc it's so fresh and how they don't even have a refrigerator so it's all as fresh as possible- it's a lie. Stopped in for take out tonight at this new place and found my new favorite Indian Restaurant. The owners were sweet people who welcomed us. I ordered the chicken vindaloo and Michelle had the chicken tikka masala. We got home and had one of the best Indian meals ever. The chicken was tender and moist. The vindaloo was perfectly spiced and was delicious. The masala was the best I ever had! The only reason I did not give the 5 stars is because I need to try the other items on the menu! read more

I stopped here after landing at JFK and was starving while sitting in traffic. I only got samosas and pakora to go. They took a freaking long time because they were making it fresh...it was also probably about 100 degrees in there, I have no idea how people were sitting and having a meal in there. Once the food finally came out (30 minutes later) I was fairly impressed. Can't comment on anything else on the menu, but 4 stars for the appetizers we got and minus one star for how long it took and how freaking hot it was in there...open some doors people! read more

Two days I showed up for their lunch buffet and they had just decided not to set it up for those days. Unforgivable since people make plans. I was given a card to call in advance but when I tried the number, no one was answering. On the days I did have the buffet, I was impressed and would have become a regular customer but if you get there after 1:30 p.m. and some food items are gone, they don't replace them. Plus, no dessert offered as part of the buffet. For 3 dollars more, I would go to Jassi's. In fact, the owners of King of India should go to Jassi's to see the setup. Ordered last night. Not good at all, both me and my friends were so disappointed! The chicken tikka masala was so rubbery and did not come nearly as close as other places. We ordered out and they forgot my friends roti, we called and they said they would bring it. 40 mins later they called us and said "we checked the camera and saw that we did pack it" meanwhile it was not in the bag. Roti is $1 so we weren't going to make a big deal out of it but the fact that they looked back at their cameras just to avoid coming was mind boggling like come on!! read more

I would rate this five stars but the answering service sucks. Four separate occasions where the phone would be busy for ten minutes. However, the food is great and the prices match. They have a great lunch special for the chicken biryani which is so good and perfectly seasoned. My favorite has to be the chole bhature which is perfectly cooked along with a side of pickles and chopped onions to go with it. The inside of the place isn't special and kind of like a hole in the wall but I always order take out. It's the only decently priced Indian food around that actually tastes well made. (I've heard of people complaining about the naan being a little burnt, I usually tell them on the phone to make sure it isn't and they always comply.) read more

This food is simple, homemade, delicious, cheap, filling, and quick. I love it here. Huge mango lassis that are the freshest, the portions are enormous, and there is a full sweets bar if you have room. Dine in and take out only, no delivery, but make the trip. Especially with a car. read more

Wow!!! This place is amazing guys... I tried their butter chicken with Indian bread .... It was delicious!!! Freshly baked Indian bread for a dollar....cannot beat that price in New York...
