We love coming here on the weekends for their buffet options. There's a big variety of different Indian food and they do change from time to time. They have a couple variations of naan which is always fun and lots of different sauces. The staff was also extremely nice, always checking up on our table and taking the dirty dishes away quickly. At the time of this review, it's $22 per adult and $10 per child and I think really young kids eat free which is great. There is also a huge parking lot in the back so you don't have to worry about street parking. read more

My friend and I discovered this restaurant by chance, and we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. Since chicken is my favorite protein, we couldn't resist ordering a variety of chicken dishes: chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, and butter chicken, paired with a side of garlic naan. The butter chicken was the standout for me--rich, creamy, and perfectly sweet. The chicken tikka masala was also good, though I would've loved a bit more spice. Unfortunately, the chicken curry fell short, lacking in flavor. Overall, though, I'd recommend giving this restaurant a try. read more

In the mood for Indian Curry, I dropped into Santoor Indian Restaurant for their Indian buffet. Upon walking in, I noticed the lights were shut off for half the dining room and the Buffet Station was closed?! They used to have daily buffers, but apparently, it's only on weekends now. Ambience: the dining room was clean and spacious with tablecloth, but it was generally dark because they shut off the lights for half the room. Food: we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala - sauce was a bit watery and chicken was a little dry. It could have been much more tender. 3/5 Lamb Vindaloo - bits of lamb were on the smaller side, however the flavor and tenderness was spot on. 4/5 TL/DR: it seems to be under new management as the menu is slightly different and no more daily buffets. ** This review is for the lunch buffet only ** I've been coming to Santoor for 12+ years. It has gone through several different owners thru the years. Their lunch buffets have always been 5 Star worthy for me...until now. Under the new management, sadly, the lunch buffets are more like 2-2.5 stars. Very disappointed! Food (in buffet only): They used to have 20+ items in their delicious buffet...now there are only about 12 dishes, fruit salad, American salad, and one rice kheer dessert. No chat, no samosas, no soups, no rasmali. They strangely have Chinese spring rolls, and lots of fried appetizers, aka fillers. Entrees include fish curry, chicken 65, tandoori chix, chix tikka masala, goat curry, and a few veg dishes. Still alot of food but somehow just not fresh & tasty food. Most of the dishes were strangely sweet. The only standout dish was the goat curry, however, it was mostly bones and had very little meat. The naan was good but their rice didn't seem fresh and was hard. None of the food was "hot" (both In terms of spiciness and temperature). Mehh! Price: Old Santoor's prices were such a bargain ($13.99 on Weekdays/$15.99 on Weekends, with twice as much food offerings. Price is now a whopping $20pp. and not worth it for me. (If the food was good, I could forgive the increase in price since food prices are high everywhere now, but what they offer is not worthy of $20pp). Suggested tip: Their "suggested tip" on their checks are based on after-tax totals. Why are we tipping on the tax we pay?! Tips should always be based on Pre-Tax totals. Buffet availability: Old Santoor used to have the lunch buffet all week long, with weekend buffets having extra items. New Santoor only has the lunch buffet available on Sat & Sun, (11:45am to 3:30pm). No weekday lunch buffets. Service & hospitality: Not overly friendly nor attentive at all. We all sat in a very dark dining room for over an hour until someone realized that they needed to turn on the lights! lol We had to ask them to remove the dirty dishes from our table, as they were piled high! We also had to ask for napkins and water refills. They never came by to ask if we needed anything. However, they did come by about 3 times to collect payment! lol It may not be fair to keep comparing what it was, to what it is now but since they kept the Santoor name, I can't help but compare. Sadly, I bid adieu to old Santoor. Good luck to new Santoor...I hope you can improve and view this as constructive criticism. read more

Hands down, the best Indian Buffet there is! I've been going to Santoor for decades...even through multiple owners the one thing that hasn't changed is how great the food is! Santoor is staple of Floral Park, and "home" to so many of us that grew up in the neighborhood...who then made it a spot people would travel for! I don't know that I've ever had a bad dish here. I've been here for take out, dine in, buffet, and countless parties, including my parents' 25th Wedding Anniversary! (It was a surprise...the bigger surprise came the following month when they realized we, my brother really, charged it all to their credit card! lol) If you like Indian food, particularly buffets, you have to try Santoor! read more

I love Indian food, and while this place was ok, I'm not rushing back any time soon. The goat curry was very good. However the Chicken Tikka Marsala was a letdown and the flavor was off. My wife is Burmese and used to Indian. We both agreed it was not right. The salmon curry was ok but again the flavors were off. We were also there with our kids and asked that the dishes be made mild. But they were still too spicy for the kids. Rice was very plain. Some Indian places do something a bit special with the rice, but not here. Mango Lassi was pre-mixed (typical) which is why they couldn't make it less sweet. The description said "classy", but I hardly think this place is classy. There was a little gathering in the other half of the restaurant. They layout of the place seemed a bit off, but they seemed to be happy. The woman who took my order was mopping floors when she wasn't serving us. Kinda weird. Possibly worth a visit if you're in the area and like Indian food. Not sure how memorable it'll be though. read more

I finally visited this local spot walking distance from home ... twice. I was informed that this restaurant is now under new management. First time: Lunch box special During my lunch break when I worked from home, I walked to the restaurant and ordered the lunch box special. Their lunch special ends at 3 or 3:30pm. I recall going towards the last hour of lunch. The manager helped me order my dish by recommending the goat curry lunch box ($12). The lunch box was a great bargain for the price because it lasted me through dinner. The bento box had a side of chana and goat curry, which was flavorful, spicy yet bony (less meat and bones). The naan was perfect for dipping into the sauces. The dessert also hit the spot. Second time: Weekend buffet ($16.95) After attending Sunday mass, I wanted to try the Indian buffet. The timing was perfect because the place opened up so I knew the food was hot and fresh. The dishes usually change depending on the day. This day the restaurant had salad and soup, which I didn't take so I filled my plate with a piece of cod fish fritter, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, fish korma (salmon was used), goat curry, paneer and spinach, potato masala, naan and rice pudding. Since my plate was filled with carbs I can't get a second plate. Overall everything tasted good. I also ordered the mango lassi which was amazing. My favorite was the goat curry, paneer and spinach dish, rice pudding, and mango lassi. A great place to explore and get a tasting of various Indian dishes. I've have great experiences so far, they also have cocktails, but that would have to wait. It's good to know that I have a spot to go to closer to home. read more

My friend raves about the buffet at this spacious Indian restaurant located near a small shopping area. There is paid parking out front but, the parking is free in the back. They haven't been back since COVID but, they been on numerous occasions with their family prior. We came on a Saturday morning to take advantage of their $15ish lunch buffet deal. Upon entry, we were promptly seated and got our plates. The buffet was a bit smaller than in the past. They had one soup, salad, 3 appetizers, naan, white rice, a chicken dish, dahl, goat curry, and a veg entree and two desserts. The food was tasty but, I wish there was more of a selection. The dahl and the chicken tasted delicious but, the chicken had bones in it. I don't really care for bones in my curry. While the staff did a good job keeping the buffet stocked, one time I picked up naan and it was still doughy. My friend and I both enjoyed our meal and thought it was an affordable price. I am not sure if they have a rotating menu but, I can understand why this is a neighborhood favorite because of the tasty food at affordable prices. Santoor has the best weekend lunch buffet. They offer a great variety of dishes that caters to all palates. My family members are meat eaters, and they look forward to delectable favorites like butter chicken, the mixed grill, chicken curry, and the goat biriyani. They also love the fluffy naan. I eat mostly plant-base with some seafood. There are always more than enough choices for me as well: chana masala, sambar, aviyal, and shrimp mango curry, for example. I love that they have crispy pappadam (for those who are gluten free) and all the condiments, including chutneys. Usually I can never eat dessert at Indian buffets because it always has dairy. Our standard crave is chicken tikka masala and samosa chaat, but we've tried many other things. Update: I came here today for buffet and they had so many great dishes. I had chicken tikka Masala, palak paneer, gobi manchurian and dal. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I also had a drink of mango lassi on the side and it was almost just too good to be true lol I always love coming here because of the variety of dishes and the employees/manager are always there and make sure you're enjoying your meal. Santoor was closed during Covid so we had to find alternatives for takeout Indian food. Happy to see that it recently re-opened. We've already gone twice. The first time we got our usual dinner order - chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and naan. All was good, but we noted that the prices were a bit higher than before. Today we picked up the Boxed Lunch Special, which I believe replaces the Lunch Buffet that they previously had (makes sense given the pandemic). What a great deal! You get so much at a fair price - an entree (meat or veggie), daal, rice, salad, naan, and dessert (carrot halwa). I got the Lamb Korma and it was so good. They gave generous pieces of meat and the curry was so hearty and flavorful. Pickup was easy. They are open for indoor dining too - saw one diner there for lunch when I was there, but the usual lunch buffet spread is likely replaced by a la carte (including this great boxed lunch special). Will definitely be back for the lunch special and maybe try other meats and curries. read more

Tried here for Saturday buffet lunch. Arrived about 1230 and the place was very quiet just two or three tables. We were greeted and seated immediately. The buffet had salad, variety of Indian sauces, spring rolls, tandoori chicken, garlic paneer, curry goat, chicken tikka, Curry chickpeas, vegetable korma, and two desserts. There was naan, garlic and regular. Presentation was nice and some of the food tasted good but more than half of the dishes were cold and did not seem to be prepared freshly. The servers were friendly but service throughout the meal was definitely lacking. We ran out of napkins and water and never got refills or additional napkins. I ended up grabbing napkins from tables nearby. maybe I hit this on the wrong day or time but Saturday at 12:30 seemed like it would be a good time to sample. I wish the meal was more enjoyable. Just finished having lunch here from their buffet and wow. A realllly great buffet with such delicious variety. The goat curry and the paneer was my favorite but everything else was so good. For $20 per person, it's honestly a great deal. What a turnaround. New owner and management. Great experience. The manager was very kind and helpful. The food was fantastic. It's obvious there is so much more care in the making of the food. The spice was excellent and robust while the dishes we ate: samosa, mattar paneer, kofta and dal were what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant! The garlic naan was crispy delicious. The interior is gorgeous. White table cloths over dark wood furniture. Prestigious and yet relaxing. The only thing I would like to see is a wider selection of Indian beers - especially the large bottles! I highly recommend this restaurant. We came in (3 couples, 3 babies) after a trip to the Queens County Farm Museum. Santoor is an unassuming, family-friendly restaurants with several long tables in one room and some smaller tables set out in the main room, along with a bar area. It feels like a family-run place. At $11.95, the lunch buffet is a steal. We loaded up on curries (chicken, goat, mushroom), tandoori meats and veggies, saag paneer, naan and rice, mulligatawny, and other staples. The only thing I didn't see was chana masala (and I might have missed it). Everything was fresh and delicious, with naar refreshed often. There wasn't much action in terms of spice but I wouldn't necessarily expect that from a buffet. Surely hotter dishes can be had from the menu. Certainly one of the better Indian buffets I've had, plus it was not crowded at all on a Saturday afternoon, allowing for casual conversation. Wasn't fresh, you can tell it was from the previous day or so but none the less it was pretty good! What wants good was the service from the two girls who work there. Santoor has been here throughout my childhood and is definitely a staple...I'm glad that they have maintained quality and authenticity despite several owners through the years. Buffet is below average as far as Indian buffets is concern. The tikka sauce was delicious, unfortunately the dry chicken breast couldn't compensate for it. The chicken drums were dry as well. The fried veggies were Ok, but in all fairness it being a buffet, they wont taste properly. The one dish that was extraordinary was the goat. Everything other dish fell flat. The waiter was attentive and the buffet price was incredibly cheap TBH. If price is a thing for you, then, it's a no brainer. But, if the cuisine is more important, than maybe ordering from the regular menu instead of the buffet is a smarter move. Well, unless you come for the goat, then definitely come for this. Came here for the lunch buffet, $10.95, with my mom. The food was cold and the breads were soggy. The dishes are not covered and have an old crusty film on top. We had to ask them to bring fresh new food. The masala dosa was good, the naan was great. The veg curry, chicken tandoori and butter chicken were good. The food was good, not great. I shouldn't have to ask them to bring fresh food. When they made fresh masala dosa the waiter brought it to our table first which was nice but he didn't have a serving utensil, he said that's okay use your fingers... Hmmm not very sanitary. * I wish they had samosa I asked if masala tea was included in the buffet and the server said yes. We got the bill and we're charged $6 for 2 teas. I have tried Indian Restaurants in the city...Astoria...Long Island...NOTHING compared to this place. I would DIE if this place ever closed. My usual: - Chicken Tikka Masala - Chana masala - masala dosa - naan - mango lassi - kheer No...I don't usually get them all in one visit. It's whenever I go...once every couple of months or so. This place has the most authentic Indian taste you're looking for. I absolutely love this restaurant. I have tried expensive/upscale Indian restaurants in the city...and it can't even compare. Manhattan restaurants I've tried ALL tend to water down the sauces and use very little seasoning. It's bland. Not Santoor! Even though I've been going there for years, I know the owner by face and not by name. He is a great guy...very pleasant, friendly and professional. This was hard to rate... Came here for dinner on a weekday with my family of 5. We were seated promptly. Water and orders were not taken until 15 minutes later. Food? It took 40 minutes to come. We had a Groupon and was also semi bait and switched. On the Groupon it said in fine print the only exemption is FISH CURRY. When we were ordering, then we were told we cannot order ANY fish or shrimp dishes. Food, that was good. Very flavorful. My favorite was the Goat Vindaloo. OH YEAH, when asked about beers, the waiter explained that they had small and large bottles. With a family of 5, i asked for a large bottle (logical). The waiter came back with a bottle of the small one and claims I said small bottle and they can't take it back. ...you know what. I'm dropping this review from a 2 star to a 1 star. Coming into the restaurant my friend and I were immediately greeted by the waiter/host. Throughout the meal the waiter was attentive and willing to answer any questions we may have had to the fullest. There were so many options; I am a fan of Indian food but not a pro. I was greatful when the waiter brought our attention to the special for two. For $45 you get mulagutawny soup, wine, naan, Sikh kabab, chicken tika, papadam, chicken/ curry goat, vegatables, and rice! Such a great deal!!! Waiter even switched out the chicken/goat curry for chicken tika masala for no extra charge. The food was very tasty and the waiter was extremely courteous! Haven't been to Santoor in yeeeaars and I'm happy to see that their food is still up to par. Everything was delicious, I got the vegetable samosa a little spicy but it's a great appetizer. For entire I ordered the chicken korma with a side of garlic naan that complimented the korma very well. I also had a lamb dish I can't remember the name but it was also very spicy and flavorful. This is a conveniently located Indian cuisine restaurant with ample parking in the back. Upon entering, our waiter greeted us and swiftly showed us our seats. The ambiance was inviting and authentic. The waiter was extremely attentive as he explained what was on the menu and asked us how spicy we wanted our food. I really liked his scale of 1 through 10 for levels of spiciness. We ordered garlic naan, somosas, chicken tikki masala, and a mixed meat priyani. The food came in a timely manner. All the dishes were appropriately sized and flavorful! Santoor offers a buffet for lunch. They are under new management so of course prices have gone up. Not sure, but I think the price went up 25% or more. The offerings were tasty, more catering towards Indian customers. I'm going to check weekday prices because $22 for a lunch buffet is a bit pricey. read more

Aerogant and unprofessional staff. I have been dining at Santoor since 1991, in 28 years, always have had pleasant experience with courteous staff and excellent service until today. I ordered Malai Chicken, when my dish arrived, I ate little then asked for a roti( whole wheat bread). 15 minutes passed but roti never came. During thise 15 minutes, I asked waiters twice and the answer I got it takes time. I over heard manage asking waiter, what happened, and replying to waiter ,so what it takes time. After 15 minutes when my chicken literally got cold, I left 80% of the dish as is , got upset and asked for check and said disregard roti, I am leaving. Manager brought check, no apology or any comforting words, I paid for whole dish and asked manager to pack my chicken he simply ignored it. When I was walking out leaving everything there paying full for dish I didn't even eat, I addressed manager that it was very rude of u to ignore packing my food and he started yelling I told him to lower ur voice but he didn't unfortunately I had to use f word and I walked out I personally request the owner to investgate it, I never saw that manager before. He looks new. Never had such a bad experience at ur place in 28 years. Ur staff is always very kind. What happened now. One bad apple can damage ur business significantly. Really enjoyed the many items offered in the Sunday brunch. There was a fair amount of people in the restaurant, and they kept it stocked well. My wife had a fair number of vegetarian dishes to choose from. And for the most part the dishes were not that spicy. It would be beneficial if they could have notes on the cards as to what items are in the dishes in addition to the name of the dish. Plenty of free parking behind the restaurant and when open you can go to the Post Office and Chase bank and Walgreens (in walking distance) all in one stop. read more

On a side note, this is the first time where I order a curry dish and it did not come with rice. Wonder if it was meant to be that way or if they just forgot about it.
