Yasss to Usha. In search for the best chaat spot in the tri-state area, I finally found something very good. Usha Food in Long Island. Service is front counter. They had a vast selection of mithai (sweets). Gulaab Jaman for example. Also available were a huge selection of Namkeen ( Indian snacks). We orders the chaat Papri and dahi puri. Both chaats were excellent and vibrant. Plenty of flavor and absolutely delish. I ended up ordering a few more chaat to-go. Usha's is nostalgic for me because my family's been coming here since I was a kid, basically my entire life, for as long as I could remember. It's a no frills, completely vegetarian place and we mostly get takeout. The samosas are a must try. This is a bold statement, but I would say the samosas here are the best that I've tried in New York and the closest I've found to street vendor samosas in India. Whenever I get samosas anywhere else, it's always "but it's not Usha's..." Samosa chaat is also delicious. The service is generally pretty prompt. Very disappointing experience. I'm coming to your place from almost 7 to 8 now . I love chai .I come here somtime late night also because they are open till late now , But from few months I'm seeing some bad behavior or we can say bad manners ,They have few untrained 3 4 boys there . They used abusive and disrespectful language toward customers, which is completely unacceptable . , because somebody's don't know hindi or haryanvi language they thought we can say anything to customers. i know hindi well so i understood that what they are saying . The words are used : ch**t , g**du , kuttey , kutee and so much shit they were talking to each others too, in there language . I was taking chai which is why i heard that all. they were rude, aggressive, and unprofessional. they were staring at girls in an inappropriate and disrespectful way. Customer service was terrible, and the atmosphere became uncomfortable because of their behavior. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone until management addresses these serious issue. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience left me with no choice. I did not want to write this review, but the behavior I witnessed was unacceptable and should be addressed. Very disturbing experience. We found a sharp nail inside the cauliflower sabji, which was also extremely oily. This is a serious hygiene and safety issue. After eating the food, my family felt sick. Finding a metal object in food is unacceptable and dangerous. This restaurant needs to take food safety and cleanliness seriously. We will not be returning. read more

I've been going here since pretty much in my early teens when I moved to the area. At that time that was pretty much the only si snack spot besides Rajbhog which closed down. I celebrate Diwali with my friends and family who live in queens NY and always stop at this location to buy sweets. I stopped by this location yesterday to buy sweets. When we opened the sweet boxes this morning and tried the sweets it was the most bitter experience ever. Thr sweets had no taste and were stale. Besan burfi was not fully roasted and had color added to it. Dhodha burfi had a layer of palm oil grease on it and without taste. Pateesa had no flavor and crunchiness. Paneer pakora was hard as a rock. This place used to have good food and snacks but over time the quality has gone down the drain. Will never visit this place again. read more

The service here is fast and quick, they keep their place nice and clean, difficult to find a parking spot at times, I received an ample portion of what I ordered. I came to this place to try a SAMOSA CHAAT, it's my first time to taste it. I found out that Samosa chaat is a dish where the base is made of samosa (savory crunchy pastry filled with spicy potatoes and peas), and topped with chickpeas, yogurt, chutney, cilantro, and sev (thin fried potato bits). This joint offers a lot of Indian food specialties, mostly sweets and snacks, but what I keep hearing from my friends is on how good this place makes a samosa chaat. So I drove to this place, due to the time of the day I did not have difficulty finding a street parking, went in to their store, nice, clean and spacious, I immediately saw a sign and markers inside on where to go to order sweets or the other foods that they offer. I ordered a samosa chat, paid, and in less than 3 minutes I got my order (to-go). I went home, opened my order and ate it. It has a tone of tangy, sweet, sour, not too spicy and savory all at once. I only tried the samosa chaat here but it was FIRE. The best samosa chaat I've had, award-winning for a reason. A great medley of flavors and big portions (so much so that I was struggling to finish). The food also comes out relatively quickly. Because it tends to be pretty busy, especially around lunchtime, the people at the register may seem like they're in a hurry, but it's a fast food place so that's to be expected Very casual atmosphere with ample seating in the back. Usha foods is definitely a staple on the ave. I've been coming here since I was teen; and it's mean a must stop for my family to pick up some freshly made mixture & a masala dosa. Sadly, the quality and flavor have gone down hill a bit (I'm assuming because of change of ownership throughout the years), the prices are also a bit steep. We paid 9bucks for a very skinny masala dosa and 9 dollars for a Pound of mixture. However, we were greeted so nicely when we walked in. I had dinner plate last night at Usha foods. It was the most abysmal meal I have had in a long time at any type of restaurant in NYC area. The meal came with a dal (which I would give 3 stars if it wasn't stone cold), saag paneer, Alloo methi, paranthas, and yogurt. All of the food was COLD. This in spite of them taking 15 minutes to deliver pre-made food they had to microwave. My friend ordered the Chola bhaturas which came out first and was passable. All of my food was SWEET! For heavens sake, this may be the Gujarati way of cooking, but for a general Indian restaurant they need to stop this style of cooking. We ordered onion pakodas...they came COLD and with NO onions inside... just previously fried chick pea flour. How anyone can give this place 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars?...I am sorry people, your taste buds must be damaged or you have never had good vegetarian Indian food. AVOID AT ALL TIMES!!! read more

Was near the area and saw it on my GPS, had to revisit an old favorite. Usually I get Chole Bature, Samosa Chaat, Papri Chaat, or Pav Bhaji. I like all of them but chole bature is my favorite there. Got the Pav Bhaji today and something new, a Paneer Tikka Masala Roll. The Pav Bhaji was not as spicy as I remember and I wish it was spicier. The bhaji (mashed mixed vegetables) was also oily so it's definitely not a health food haha. More importantly it was still very comforting and smooth. The pav (toasted rolls) tasted fresh and buttery crisp. So good. I liked the Paneer Tikka Masala Rolls. It was hot and fresh. Next time I'll ask for a hot sauce or chutney to go (the provided chutney was not spicy) with both dishes. I liked that there are high barriers between the workers and customers at the counter. Everyone wore masks. I second another customer though that the inside started getting more and more crowded as I waited and no one was told to wait outside or far apart. Perhaps calling in your order and picking it up so you can leave quickly would be better if you're nervous like me. There are also reminders everywhere to social distance so that's good. read more

I really liked this place as it is unpretentious, great value and close to the home cooked flavor most Asians crave that reminds them of their mothers cooking. Four of us dined here, the mango lassi was great, thick and not insipid as some places serve, sweet without being so sugary that can make teeth feel on edge. For the main course we ordered the weekend special of the pindi chole (Garbanzo Beans) with onion kulcha (a stuffed deep friend South Asian bread), also two of the chaats to share. I notice they spell it chat as though one is going to indulge in a conversation but in India and London its spelt chaat. The kulcha was delicious with the cheese and onion filling, the only issue was the greasiness of it leaving an oily taste in my mouth, I think being so busy they were taken out of the karahi (deep frying pan) and served straight onto the plate whereas at home the excess oil would be squeezed off. The chana had a good warming flavor, especially on a cold day, for my palate they were slightly underdone, the rest of the table liked the bite of the chana. A side of chutney and onions were served, would have loved more chutney, will be interesting to see if asked for extra chutney they give it happily, give it but make a face or want to charge extra. Chaat were good and better than most in New York, next time I'd like my friends to experience the spicy chaats of Raja Sweets in Jackson Heights, we can chew over it and deliberate over whether Usha Foods or Raja Sweets chaats are better. read more

The menu comprises of items that look like it's meant to grab real profit, but not provide a real experience. Their sandwiches are what you can make at home. Very few things are sustainable here like the dhokla and chole bhature. Sometimes their chaat is okay, other times it's inconsistent. Place is brightly lit, spacious, and color contrasted. Furniture fairly worn out and all sorts of food traveling across the room constantly - allowing you to peek many items. We ordered many items, some of which were: Dosa Fushka Dey puri Halwa Falooda A lot of colors and flavors as expected. Simply too much to say about the many pallet experiences each item brought. Place offers fast service, lively ambiance, and good pricing. Chairs and tables tend to be messy even after they clean it and can definitely use a bit of a renovation. This is my go to place for samosas. Love the spiciness and all the dipping sauces. They're reasonably priced and substantial in size.

Employees are not kind and often there is a strange feeling of discrimination if you do not speak the same exact dialect as those who are working here or popularly come here. Store could definitely be decorated more and kept more clean. The menu items are pretty good, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they excel at snacks and sweets, especially as compared to the area which competes heavily in South East Asian cuisine. read more
